Special Effects Must Be Better in New Moon Movie

200811301501.jpgAmy Wilkinson at EW’s Popwatch notes that with its locales and morphing werewolves, the budget for New Moon will have to be bigger:

As a fan of the Stephenie Meyer-penned series, I’m cautiously optimistic about the sequel, but it’s hard not to think about several obstacles to overcome in moving the story from the page to the big screen. First is the quantity — and quality — of the special effects it requires. With its morphing werewolves and new locations, the budget for New Moon will figure to have to be substantially larger than Twilight’s paltry $37 million price tag to make it credible. (I can’t be the only one disappointed with the running and sun-induced “dazzle” effects in the first flick.) Second is the prospect of a largely Robert Pattinson-free script. Not to give too much away to newcomers, but Pattinson’s heartthrob vamp Edward Cullen is largely absent from Meyer’s second novel. Clearly, Pattinson and his perfectly coiffed hair have been a big draw for smitten Twilight fans. The filmmakers will either need to figure out a way to bring Edward into the plot or risk the possibility Team Edwarders might feel disappointed. And finally, in the realm of special effects, how the heck is Taylor Lautner going to grow a foot within the next year to portray the gargantuan Jacob?

I absolutely HAT when they switch actors in sequels. Taylor IS Jacob!

Where are you gonna find 9 foot high wolves? Come on, Summit. We just spent millions seeing Twilight. It wouldn't hurt you to spend a little of that on REALLY GOOD SPECIAL EFFECTS.

Mess it up, and you may find we spend alot less, this time around.

i'm a big fan of edward but i wouldn't mind less scenes with him because that's the story! As for Jacob, the new director's possible choice who is Michael Copon (which i just found out here) is in my opinion, perfect for the Jacob we need for New Moon. Sorry Lautner fans. I think Taylor L. is cute and a good actor but there are more actors more suited for the role of Jacob in the sequel.

they shouldn't put more edward than in the books
we want when he finally shows up to be dazzled

showing him before would be a mistake

I really agree that the New Moon movie should be like the book, but I also think there were a lot of things in the first movie that we're cut that are important to the second book. I think that it might be cool- if the do it right- if the do 'flasbacks' to her time with edward throughout the movie. So that non-twilight readers...like all of our boyfriends can understand why/how she understands about the Voluturi so quickly or why it is so devistating to her....just a though. :)

Edward (RobertPattinson) shouldnt be in the film much. Hes not in the book untill near the end. Keep the film like the book. The only way fans will be happy :D
  • Shayla
i think that there should be as much Edward as there is intended in the book....no more adding Edward!!! He is still in the movie just not as much..if they add more of him to the movie they are not following the book....if you are really a Twilight fan, you'd want the right version to come out on the big screen. So what if Team Edward fans will be dissapointed??? Give us what you should..the book in movie form!!!!! the 1st movie was changed enough dont u think???

They should keep the movie like the book and bring in edwards voice and maybe just an outline of his face. Special effects should be better and we need to really feel the pain that bella is going through.

i think the best actor to play jacop in the new moon would be Steven Strait…he is just right ..the smile,,the pain on his face,,,that’s exactly what bella is talking about in the story..even the angry face will suit him..so i think he is the best
  • THEY WILL HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FOR NEW MOON AND THEY WILL HAVE TO STRETCH THE BUDGET HUGELY TO FIT EVERYTHING IN BUT THEY DO GOOD WITH THE MONEY INSTEAD OF AHVING BLUE TINT THEY HAVE GOLD TINT ISNT IT AMAZING
  • AND RELAX PEOPLES TAYLOR LAUNTER WILL STILL BE IN NEW MOOON YOU SHOULD SEE HIS BUFF NEW BODY YOU COULD EAT IT UP
