New Moon Movie Fan Sites Talk Back
Curious what the fan sites have to say about the news that Catherine Hardwicke has been replaced by Chris Weitz? ReelzChannel interviewed the creators of a few of the popular sites covering the New Moon movie–including yours truly, embarrassingly enough–and here is what we had to say–

As fansite moderators, we get to see and interact with hundreds of Twilighters every day. With that comes the chance to see what it is that they truly want. We want someone that will do the book justice, much like Catherine was able to. Chris Weitz seems like the perfect man to, not replace but rather, continue what Catherine started. Besides, if Stephenie Meyer, the queen bee herself, approves of him, who are we to say he isn’t good enough?

New directors are always a crap shoot for franchises. Catherine, on most counts, realistically set up the world of Forks and the Cullens. Chris gets to take over from that foundation. I think Chris is up to the job, if you take About a Boy, a project where he pretty much had total control, it was heartwarming, funny, emotional — all the things New Moon has to be. So I’m for keeping an open mind, especially now that Stephenie Meyer has given her support.

People have said that men can’t direct romance … but The Notebook is proof enough that they can. I hope Chris pays as much attention to detail as Catherine did, and that being faithful to the book remains his first priority. I personally love About A Boy, and I hope that the fans will support him as much as they supported our brilliant director of Twilight. I can’t wait to see his interpretation of the world of Bella and Edward, and let’s hope that Twilighters have a whirlwind romance with his movie, just as he did with the books.

I appreciate and respect Catherine’s adaptation of Twilight, as well as her love for the fans. She has made quite an impact on the Twilight fandom as a whole. But, with Stephenie’s blessing as the torch is passed to Chris Weitz, I have faith that he will be just as devoted to the books. I only hope he can make a seamless jump into New Moon without changing the Forks we have grown to love already.

I’m optimistic. Weitz left Golden Compass as director initially because he was worried about disappointing the dedicated His Dark Materials fans. So he’s already dealt with a ravenous, tuned-in fanbase that expected a lot for the book-to-movie translation. Twilight is not an effects-packed action story, it’s a love story. He’ll need to channel his About a Boy sensitive side if he wants to please the fans.

I like the old director. But if the decition is already made. DON'T YOU DARE MESS IT UP. SO PLEASE PLAESE PLESE MAKE IT THE SAME OR BETTER. DON'T CONCENTRATE TOO MUCH IN SPECIL EFFECTS THAT THE ALL POINT OF ROMANCE FADES AWAY... Thank you

I think Chris is going to do a good job. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I know he's also helping a bit with the music supervision aspect of stuff too and am hoping they don't go too commercial with stuff and that they give some indie artists a shot. I'm a huge Twilight fan. I'm really excited about New Moon and am trying to get Twilight fans to listen to one of my favorite artists because I've read that he wants his music in New Moon. His name is Rick Mugrage. His music is perfect for the Twilight series!! His songs "Leaving For Good", “Signs” and "Medicate" are so perfect for New Moon or ANY of the movies in the series. The lyrics and the feel of them are PERFECT!! He’s a HUGE Twilight fan too, which I think is cool. I'm getting so bugged by artists like the Jonas Brothers who want to just jump on the band wagon and have their music used just because the books and the movie are popular now. Rick Mugrage is awesome because his music is perfect for The Twilight series, but above all he's a fan of Twilight!!! You’ve got to listen to Rick's muisc! I promise you’ll dig it and if you’re a Twilight fan you’ll definitely agree it fits the series. He’s an indie artist from Oregon and is starting to make waves. Check him out and tell people to add his songs "Leaving For Good", “Signs” and "Medicate" for the New Moon soundtrack.

I want to see this artist get a break. He's so talented. It would be so cool to seem him get a chance to have his music on any of the Twilight films!

Catherine was obviously an amazing director, there is no doubt that Twilight is an amazing movie. In my opinion, Twilight is the best one out there at the moment, until New Moon comes out, we'll have to see if it keeps it's title. Chris has created the vision of amazing films like the 'The Golden Compass' and many more, he's very experienced and I'm sure he'll make New Moon amazing too. Obviously, I would prefer Catherine to direct New Moon, but due to schedule, she can't. Surely, if Stephanie Meyer, the creator of Edward Cullen, says Chris will do New Moon justice, then that just confirms that Chris will not harm New Moon in any way.

Surprised to find that the original director was replaced. It's a pity because we all love what Katherine did to the first book. I am not too sure about the new director since I didn't really enjoy " the Golden Compass." Hope that he will do a better job on this one, and my feeling is -- please do not make it a stunt show movie, and thereby, miss telling the story of Love.
