But as far as the new guy playing the part of jacob black.. At first i was thinking.. NO! but.. really if you think about it.. Jacob is supposed to mature over night. Bella is supposed to feel small compared to him- and Jacob is supposed to be a bit more intimidating, and wild. I think someone BIG / TALL like this guy would be good. Bella is supposed to start falling for him- and if Edward is going to MIA for a while- the movie has to have good sexual tension. I could definately see that happening with the new guy. Okay. So, reading all these comments, I just have to say a few things.
First off, I am team Jacob. I'm not saying that I am upset how everything turned out in the end with Bella, Edward, and Jacob, me as a person would have picked Jacob.
Secondly, I loved the movie. I think they did an excellent job for an independent film. Of course, there would be certain things I would have done differently.
Thirdly, I liked Rob as Edward, HOWEVER, he never fit the description in which Stephanie Meyer created for him. Edwards is suppose to be the most beautiful person ever...not the hottest. She, in the books, compared him to Michaelangelo's "David." Robert doesn't quite fit that for me.
Fourthly, to be honest, out of all the characters in the movie, Jacob is the closest to how I pictured him. Lautner has his smile. The perfect teeth and just the most welcoming and friendliest smile. I do not think they should change him. In movies, they can do so much nowadays; if Lautner can't beef up on his own, they can make him look buff plus add the foot he needs to be werewolf Jacob.
LAstly, sad but true, we all read the books. We all have our unique imaginations. No one is going to picture the characters the same (notice my comment, I always said "that is not how I pictured..."). However, I really did enjoy the movie and the actors who portrayed each character. It brought the story closer to the fans.

Also...we all need to keep in mind that in the beginning of New Moon, Jacob is still Jacob. How are they going to make an older guy look that much younger? It is easier to make someone look older I would think.

As Jacob points out, he and Bella would have been each others soul mates, but because of the supernaturalness (that's actually a word!!) that has affected their world, their futures have been all screwed up. If vampires had never come to Forks (ever), then the wolf gene thingy would have never showed up in Jacob, so imprinting wouldn't be a problem. Bella and Jacob would have time to bond, seeing as no one is trying to kill her/"protect" her from werewolves, and they would end up marrying and living happily ever after etc. So.... long story short, Bella had two true loves, but one ECLIPSEd the other.

Ya I agree. There is way too much bitching between so many people. The "Go Team Jacob!" crap has to stop because if you honestly think that Jacob knows how to treat a girl then you have issues. Edward is much more of a man and knows how to respect a girl. And the funny thing is that so many of you critisize Kristen Stewart for her acting and Robert Pattinson with "deformed facial features". If you think you're so much better at acting then why don't you audition? in Twilight Jacob is suppose to look like he just turned 16, but in New Moon he goes through all those growth spurts and it is said in the book, at least on of the later books, that Jacob really doesn't look like a teenager, his body is one of a 25 year old. That is the whole dilemma with Lautner. I don't think that they should replace Taylor, they can make him look older and the public has already made the visual connection between him and Jacob, but that is the driving factor behind the change.

There are actually quite a bit of reasons I don't hink they should replace Lautner, but I have a feeling that they will, just because they aren't making the most wise of decisions with this movie so far, so I wouldn't put it past them.

I'm soo with you. they shouldn't replace taylor because makeup artists and stuff can make him look older. If he buffs up a little more he can make it. I think that if they could find a way to cast them both but bring copon in later on when Jacob changes that would be good as well. Hollywood always does stuff like that right? Sooo fake. Come on! IMDB's official listing is still Jacob. I think we would have heard that Taylor got the boot long ago if they were recasting him.

in Twilight Jacob is suppose to look like he just turned 16, but in New Moon he goes through all those growth spurts and it is said in the book, at least on of the later books, that Jacob really doesn't look like a teenager, his body is one of a 25 year old. That is the whole dilemma with Lautner. I don't think that they should replace Taylor, they can make him look older and the public has already made the visual connection between him and Jacob, but that is the driving factor behind the change.


There are actually quite a bit of reasons I don't hink they should replace Lautner, but I have a feeling that they will, just because they aren't making the most wise of decisions with this movie so far, so I wouldn't put it past them.

If you go to his IMDB page, the very first post on his discussion board states that the IMDB user could see him as the "grown up Jacob Black." That post was made in March of this year. Given that the wording is exactly the same as his FB status, I'm wondering if it was a joke after he checked his IMDB page or something.

I haven't seen this guy act, but I think he looks the part. BUT I want Taylor to play Jacob in New Moon. They can do all kind of camera tricks to make him look taller and add make-up and stuff, and he can buff up... Taylor is rather tiny, but I already picture him as Jacob whenever I read the books so it would be hard to imagine someone other than him as Jake.

Although Jacob didn't play a major role in “Twilight” he was one of the most higly anticipated casting selections.



Second, it would be preferable to see a shorter, less muscular actor that can accurately portray Jacob's dynamic personality than simply an actor that looks the part. The same goes for members of the pack. We would prefer normal guys as the werewolves, thank you very much.



Third, because Taylor Lautner IS Jacob Black. In the few minutes he had in the movie, he won us all. His gestures, his simile, his voice, the way he behaved all the time… He is Jacob, and we don’t want a stranger in the role. We want Taylor.



Fourth, because this wouldn’t be fair to Taylor at all. He has been so enthusiastic about his role, which fans of the series truly appreciate. He’s one of the most loved actors in “Twilight”. Whenever he comes out anywhere, the screams are incredible. Everyone knows that a business must listen to the concerns of its consumers. If you wish to continue the success of Twilight with New Moon it is essential that you listen to us now. Well, a few ours ago I´ve read an article about Chris Weitz´being the new director. (I think he looks a bit like a more human imagination of Wormtail...) And I´m also not very pleased about it. To fire Cathrin only cause they want to proceed quickly is freakin stupid. I could understand it when they haven´t enough money to make everything (the special effects and so on) properly, but Summitt can´t tell me, that they haven´t got enough money now!

Totally agree, Laurent was supposed to be french but instead he had a British accent, did anyone care? No. And it doesn't matter, it's not about ethnicity.
I liked Taylor but he is just too young and never ever could he pull off the older Jake, even if he buffs up, when Bella and Jake stand next to each other they shouldn't be eye to eye! What do you want them to do? Taylor caring a stool everywhere on set so he can stand on it?

Since the beginning I feared that Taylor was a mis cast and although I iked him better than I thought I would, it's not going to change that he is too young for New Moon.

Michael Copon is perfect for this role, is you watch the Scorpion King 2 : Rise of A Warrior he can do more than act, he does his own stunts. The book clearly describes Jacob's character growing 8 inches which Michael is perfect for and he looks more like a man. Michael is 20 times better than Taylor Lautner for this sequel. Taylor was great in the first, because it follows that story plot, but Michael is perfect for New Moon and Eclipse.

Hello people! In BD, Jacob is 6'5 and growing! Taylor is only 5'6. No amount of steroids or bulking up will get him that big by March when the film starts filming. If Summit is going to stay true to the book (as they should), then there is no other actor out there more perfect than Michael Copon. So if you are a true Twilight fan and want to preserve the integrity of the book and how it is portrayed onscreen, be honest with yourself and admit Taylor would NOT make a good Jacob.

But as far as the new guy playing the part of jacob black.. At first i was thinking.. NO! but.. really if you think about it.. Jacob is supposed to mature over night. Bella is supposed to feel small compared to him- and Jacob is supposed to be a bit more intimidating, and wild. I think someone BIG / TALL like this guy would be good. Bella is supposed to start falling for him- and if Edward is going to MIA for a while- the movie has to have good sexual tension. I could definately see that happening with the new guy. I love you Taylor! frown

Summit hasnt said anything official we dont know for sure. I personally love Taylor Lautner as Jacob, I think he fits the description as Bella's "personal sun." If they were to switch, they should at least have Taylor in the begining of the movie, and then transition Michael Copon as the older, taller, more serious Jacob.

the new moon movie is so scrrewed up as is.

1. they loose the director-who i thought did an amazing job as keeping the movie as much like the book as possible.

2. the script is completely changed - making the movie very far off from the book.

i personally think they should have kept cathrine, and sacraficed having the movie come out later with a perfect scrpit, rather than rushing through the script making it wrong.

the new moon movie is so scrrewed up as is.
1. they loose the director-who i thought did an amazing job as keeping the movie as much like the book as possible.
2. the script is completely changed - making the movie very far off from the book.
i personally think they should have kept cathrine, and sacraficed having the movie come out later with a perfect scrpit, rather than rushing through the script making it wrong.

they really do not need to replace jacob. They already introduced him as Taylor Lautner. If they do this, i will defintately not see the movie. It wont be worth it.

I think Summit is right on the money with the decisions they are making...lose Lautner! He's a cocky snotty nose kid that does nothing for any female over the age of 18...Catherine...god bless her, but I'm glad they are going with someone else this time around. Hopefully New Moon will be a little less "highschool musical" and way more Stephenie Meyer! Now if we can only get rid of the horrible screenwriter! Thank god that its only a rumor because I can't see anyone else as Jake but Launter. I believe that it would be a big mistake for Summit to change Taylor for someone else. Lautner is PERFECT!!! Here is why: In twilight Jacob is a boyish sixteen year old with a beautiful smile-- that is so Lautner! And then when Bella sees Jake again in New Moon he is still boyish but a little taller. An older actor like Copon couldn't pull that off. He looks too much like an adult. Its not until Jake becomes the wolf that he looks much older and even more taller and muscular. I believe Taylor can pull this off. Remember we live in a time where special effects are incredibly amazing. They can make him look taller. As for the bulking up, Taylor already stated that he is now hitting the gym 5 days a week and cranking out on protein for the role. He said he has already gained 7lbs of muscle. I've seen a recent pic of him hugging the girl that plays Bella and he looks a little older. You can tell he has gained some weight. Also remember the movie 300? Gerald Butler gain a massive amount of weight for that role and they airbrushed him to make him look even more ripped. As far as the people who think he can't play the intense wolf side of Jacob....have you seen some of Taylor's martial arts videos???? He is pretty damn intense and he was only a child!!!!!! I am neutral on the recast for Jacob. I see both sides. Taylor was great in Twilight, but when Bella sees him for the first time in New Moon he's 6'1" and looks much older than 16 so I could see the need for an older Jacob. My pick is Sam Bradford the quarterback for OU. He just won the heisman. He's 6'4" has the sweetest look and is gorgeous.....and he is native american. Honestly, he might be a better actor than some of these guys.

STEVEN STRAIT should be the older jacob black..he so looks the part..and can grow a natural long hair unlike lautner's wig..he's way much hotter than this copon guy..i've seen snippets of his film and it sucks..jacob is one of the important characters in the series..steven can act, steven has the body to boot...and it will be a good to see two hot guys fighting over bella...and since bella will also be commenting on jacob how beautiful he is..and even if we'll just see rob in the beginning & end of new moon at least there's still one hot guy all through out the movie that will make up for us missing rob...=D

I'm soo with you. they shouldn't replace taylor because makeup artists and stuff can make him look older. If he buffs up a little more he can make it. Look he's only 16 he is growing as we speak and well they said that they were filming in spring and well by then i'm pretty sure Taylor will fit the part. Of course if this wouldn't happen they would need a back up but at least try to keep him. To me it isn't right to change actors for the same character. You see movies when there is like a 10 year old kid and later in the movie it's like Brad Pitt in his 30s or something then that would be different but 16 to 25 you pretty much look the same. To all the other Twilight fans, it seems like you haven't read New Moon. In TWILIGHT, Jacob is supposed to be this lanky, youthful Native American teenager who has the hots for Bella. In NEW MOON however, he's not supposed to look like he's 16. He's SUPPOSED to look like he's 25, and that's because of the werewolf gene.


To be honest, I'd have preferred Steven Strait for Jacob Black, as he resembles Taylor a little more closely, and well, he's just awesome, and younger than Michael Copon, which would be more comfortable for the casts' age differences. They Look Enough Alike To Pass As An Older Version Of Each Other... I Heart Taylor But I Really Can't See Him As The Older Jacob. And Of Course He's The Happy Go Lucky Version Of Jacob, Once Again BEFORE He Turns Shape Shifter.. After That He's Kinda Arrogant And Full Of Himself...Not That I Don't Like Him He Just Is.. He shouldnt be replaced cause he worked so hard 2 get the role and this is a big opportunity for him. They can make him look taller and older. Its possible. If they could do it 2 hagrid in harry potter than they can do it to taylor. It is probably hard but i bet they could do it. Also they are rushing the movie! It will urn out awful if they dont take their time. I think that we can all agree as fans that we dont care about how fast its made. We are all capable of waiting. We all just want a quality movie that stays true 2 the book. I also hear that this guy is complete jerk and on his facebook he was bragging that he might be the new jacob. Hes not even that good of an actor. Taylor is way better and really captures jacobs good, fun spirit. Me and my friends are all going 2 try 2 write 2 summit telling them how big of a mistake their making. Every1 should write if u agree with me! The letters would have 2 be written by March. I love how people think he does not "look" like Jacob, when we ALL have different versions of Jacob in our head prior to Twilight coming out. I think Michael is a WAY better fit for the role as Jacob. I am not saying that Taylor is not hot and that he is not a good actor, but sometimes the part grows out of someone and I think that Michael especially when he changes to werewolf is going to look way better (plus he actually looks way better with longer hair.. it does not look fake)... so really if they change it you might like it even better.. either way your still going to go see it, and your still going to love the book.

I do agree. but really, if they did replace him they need to search for some unknown hot american indian actor. you can't have this asian looking guy. and his acting SUCKS and his face isn't near as hot. idk, but to me its all about the face. they can fix both on screen anyways. taylor just has this charm that makes you smile when you see him smile. this guy makes me want to punch him in the face. he's being all cocky about it too. i hate summit though, and i'm 99.9 sure they're replacing him(taylor). they love screwing things up.

K, honestly, I don't know who you think you are for saying this. After filming Twilight, Taylor Started working out three hours a day so that he could bulk up to play Jacob in New Moon. If you honestly don't think that he's got the right body to play Jacob, you clearly haven't seen him with his shirt off. (he's got an eight pack)
