While I did like Taylor in Twilight, I don't think he will be able to pull off the role of Jacob in New Moon. I think Steven Strait would do a great job as Jacob. He was Stephanie Meyer's pick for Jacob. "And finally, I found my favorite Jacob Black, though he's a New Moon - aged Jacob..." but she thought he would be too old to play him by the time New Moon was made. Well Steven is only 22 and Jacob is supposed to look 25, so I am sure she would approve if they could get him.

The truth of the matter is that the character undergoes a major transformation and the easiest way to show that is in his phycial appearance. Actually, if I remember correctly (which I do) all the girls were going crazy for Taylor's BODY and his FACE NOT his acting skills. Steven is equally hot - actually, hotter- he's had far better experience, he and Taylor could freakishly pass for brothers (which PROVES that the universe WANTS taylor GONE!) and yes, taylor did a great job taking off his shirt at strategic intervals so that everyone's attention would be diverted to cover up his lousy acting. I agree that they need to get someone else to play Jacob because he is supposed to by way taller than Edward and more muscular. If they can pull it off with special FX's and not make it look cheasy, then I am all for it since I do like Taylor Lautner as an actor.

Taylor seems to have the Jacob personality, which is really all that's necessary to keep the storyline intact. It just seems silly that his size should matter that much when he's "hunky" in the books because of his sunny personality, which Taylor seems perfectly capable of nailing. Michael Copon is a horrendous and cheesy actor, and I don't want to sit through an entire movie with him as a main character. If they MUST recast Jacob, I don't see how Steven Strait could be worse than MC, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that Steven gets it. Although I still think it would be a shame to see Taylor go.

Regardless of how appealing it seems to have Steven Strait as Jacob, who was my choic before casting was chosen for Twilight, having anyone but Taylor Lautner won't work. He's all but perfect for the role. I think it's entirely unfair to even consider replacing him. He did an excellent job and he would continue to do so in New Moon. Having a new director is already going to be tricky enough. He shouldn't be playing with fire like this.

Yes, Taylor is indeed a young guy, but in case people have not payed attention to the book, Jacob is explained as a young, handsome guy, with an amazing smile and he is supposed to have wolf-like features. Taylor may not be the tallest, bulkiest guy for the role, but he is the guy that represents Jacob and the way many fans have visualized him in the books. Wrong, twilightmom. I think switching actors is a mistake. Taylor is young, but so is Jacob. If they wanted someone else to do the sequels they should have had them from the get-go.
Besides, they can work their magic and make anyone look older/younger, shorter/taller, fatter etc. It is the essence of the character that matters.

Hey, I really agree with you =]. and also, yes it's true, Edward isn't supposed to appear much in the second movie at the same time as Jacob [much]. New Moon is about Jake and Bella, despite that later it is again about Bella and Edward's dramatic love and how they both give their lives for each other. [how sweeeet ^_^]. Anyhow, I LOVE Taylor, and I too would cry if they would change him, not only that, but he clearly represents Jacob. Taylor deserves this role, and he has been working for it..and most of the people that TRULY understand that Jacob is SUPPOSED to be a young boy compared to the hundred and forty something year old vampire-- er, 17 year old hottie. If they switched out now, it'd screw with continuity. What real effect does Jacob's height have to do with the 'rest of the story' anyway? Just because Taylor is shorter than Rob doesn't mean he can't pull off the acting to /be/ Jacob. Things get cut in book-to-film adaptions all the time, things more important to continuity than a character's physical description (Marauders' Backstory, anyone?) And after all of that promoting Taylor put in, he deserves the role, and he's proven he can handle it.

Taylor seems to have the Jacob personality, which is really all that's necessary to keep the storyline intact. It just seems silly that his size should matter that much when he's "hunky" in the books because of his sunny personality, which Taylor seems perfectly capable of nailing. Michael Copon is a horrendous and cheesy actor, and I don't want to sit through an entire movie with him as a main character. If they MUST recast Jacob, I don't see how Steven Strait could be worse than MC, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that Steven gets it. Although I still think it would be a shame to see Taylor go.

P.S., Taylor DOES appeal to fans over the age of 20. At least 6 I can think of off the top of my head, and I hardly know many people who are fans of Twilight. Besides, it's incredibly immature to think they should fire the kid because the old ladies don't want him. You should use a recent photo of Taylor Lautner for a fair comparison. That photo of him was taken when he was still a child. He looks very different now - his frame is broader and bulkier and his face is more mature.

Steven Strait please. The right height, the right looks, the right smile, the right charm, the right age--I thought he was older even! Also, they made Rodrigo Santoro (Paulo from Lost season 3 and Karl from Love Actually) look 7' tall to play the God-King Xerxes in the movie, 300, although they did say that extensive CG work was needed to make the 6' 2'' Santoro look that tall. Extensive isn't a good word when they are only upping New Moon's budget to 50 million.
That brings me to another point, what the hell is up with Summit?! Such a low budget after Twilight is continuing to bring in boatloads of cash just from the domestic release. (The budget is reportedly one of the reasons why Catherine Hardwicke isn't directing New Moon.) Think of the international revenue AND the dvd sales! It's already been said that the budget increase will be mostly for the Star's bigger paydays. I read a quote from a Summit rep (I couldn't find it to reference) saying that they were happy with the effects in Twilight and didn't feel that they needed a big budget increase for the effects in New Moon. While I liked Twilight, what little effects it had were sub-par. That won't fly for the more effects oriented New Moon.

The rushing of the sequel seems unnecessary as well. It's like Summit's a kid with their first $5 and they don't know what to do with themselves. Ugh, I just hope they don't mess this franchise up.

His size is completely unimportant to the story. You could completely ignore the super-growth-spurt details and I will promise you the plot would not be affected at all.


It is completely unfair to Taylor. He's by far the most dedicated cast member I have seen despite his small rolle in the first movie. He completely personifies Jacob's personality, which is way more important than something like HEIGHT.



Recent pictures show: he's gained like 20 lbs in muscle because he's going through physical training in prep for his role. DO NOT betray him like this.

And if we are going to be so critical about Jacob's actor, why not a shorter Alice? A younger Bella, and Edward, and essentially every teenaged character? The truth of the matter is, no one should be hunting for an exact physical mirror representation. That's bad moviemaking. What Summit should be focusing on is who has the most dedication and skill, not who is the hottest mancandy. (Besides, Imo, Taylor is some hot mancandy for the target age group).


There's a reason Hardwicke had him audition with pieces from New Moon. I trust her way more than Summit at this point, because she knew the movie needs more time to prepare.

I think Taylor was good for Twilight...he looks 15 and is playing his age. For the other books, he is supposed to be taller, stronger, muscular and more mature. I think his physical change along with her heartbreak is what begins to attract Bella to him and we believe it. He's gotta be hot and give Edward competition. Everyone keeps arguing that Taylor is 17 and can play an older actor, but the fact of the matter is that he is supposed to look 25 in the books!!!

He's 5'9 which is laughably short...even compared to Patterson who's like 6 ft. Jacob is supposed to TOWER over Edward...he's supposed to be 6'7!!!!

I liked Taylor in the Twilight movie just fine, but for the rest of the movies we need someone actually older...not just a Kid playing a man. Jacob might be young in the books, but his wolf DNA aged his body to that of a 25 year old much faster than a normal human...they need to show that!!!

Michael looks too old to play the part of Jacob and he really isn't that good looking as Steven and Taylor, his look is pretty average and he needs to be able to compete with Edward. Michael looks too old to play the part of Jacob and he really isn't that good looking as Steven and Taylor, his look is pretty average and he needs to be able to compete with Edward. Taylor played a great young Jacob in Twilight, but unfortunately, he's too short and looks too young to play the part of Jacob for New Moon and Eclipse, he needs to be taller and a little bit more mature looking, but still look boyish as the book described. In short, my vote goes to Steven Strait.

Please do not cast Michael Copon as Jacob. If you are not going to stick with Taylor, please go with Steven Strait. He as the right height and look to compete with Rob on the big screen. Michael looks too old to play Jacob even as the older Jacob and honestly, he just doesn't the same sex appeal to go against Rob on the big screen. Steven can easily put the same sex appeal as Rob. He's already taller than Rob and he has the right look as the older Jacob, mature but yet still boyish looking. How can you cast a Power Ranger for this movie? That just killed it for me.

I think that, yes, Taylor Lautner captured "Jacob" perfectly for ME, and if they can manage to make him look older then keep him but if not then Michel would fit the looks part perfectly. As to his acting, I don't know I am not a TV fan so I have never seen how he works. To everyone that is freaking out you need to chill and refocus your life if you are THIS worried over a MOVIE you have issues.

Taylor even has the look of a wolf... when he's serious but when he smiles... aahh, he is "Bella's Jacob". Although I've got to say that Steven Strait would be great as Jacob post change. Totally agree with the rushed time line, sure Summit gets the movie to fans quicker but at what cost?? Literally... $50 million (if that is the right number) for a movie that is going to need some really good CGI?! My dad does that for a living they're not going to be able to make it, or if they do theres a pretty good chance it'll flop.

I think that, yes, Taylor Lautner captured "Jacob" perfectly for ME, and if they can manage to make him look older then keep him but if not then Michel would fit the looks part perfectly. As to his acting, I don't know I am not a TV fan so I have never seen how he works. To everyone that is freaking out you need to chill and refocus your life if you are THIS worried over a MOVIE you have issues.

Taylor even has the look of a wolf... when he's serious but when he smiles... aahh, he is "Bella's Jacob". Although I've got to say that Steven Strait would be great as Jacob post change. Totally agree with the rushed time line, sure Summit gets the movie to fans quicker but at what cost?? Literally... $50 million (if that is the right number) for a movie that is going to need some really good CGI?! My main point is that if it sadly has to happen then it needs to be Steven S. becaues Michael C. is not a good actor and will make the transition horrible. While Taylor was and is great, if Jacob was originally Steven it wouldn't have been bad, but if it was originally Michael, it would have sucked. I will be sad if Taylor goes, but if there is any hope left please don't let Michael C. be casted.

Definitely keep Taylor! If his cute baby face is what is keeping him from playing the role of Jacob Black then these directors aren't very smart. There are tons of ways to make cast members look older or younger then they really are. You could use makeup or even digitally enhance their features. Either way Taylor should stay! Look, I LOVE Taylor don't get me wrong. He SHOULD stay, but he can't. The character's change in size is too drastic.


HOWEVER, they need to find an actor that looks a LOT like Taylor in order for the change to make sense. In my opinion, there is only one guy that could pull it off.



Steven Strait. They have similar facial features and his SMILE is just as infectious as Taylor's. I don't think Michael Copon looks ANYTHING like Taylor.

I don't see where you are getting this Taylor is the epitome of Jacob Black...he was in Twilight for maybe all of 8 minutes and that might be pushing it. Yes Taylor is adorable, and he was great for the first movie. However, the height issues and physical aspects of Jacob's character ARE important...that would be like saying oh Edward doesn't need to look beautiful...Jacob goes through EXTREME changes when he changes into his werewolf side...I'M SORRY but you can not have a 16 year old play the part of a character who is suppose to LOOK like he is in his mid twenties. If you look at it like they are finding another actor to play Jacob in his older years then it is not so bad...because really when you think about it that is the case....

Taylor deserves this role, he is Jacob Black
He looks way older now and hotter, and he has grown that picture of him is when he's like what? 12? He's been working really hard for his role, and he's truly dedicated.

Taylor deserves this role, he is Jacob Black
He looks way older now and hotter, and he has grown that picture of him is when he's like what? 12? He's been working really hard for his role, and he's truly dedicated.
It wouldn't be fair to replace him just like that. When books are made into movies a lot of things are ignored, so his height shouldn't be a big deal. Trust me, how tall he is, is not going to change the plot in any way.
And Taylor is a sweet guy, and Jacob is well.. more agressive, but heys its not called acting for nothing, he can pull it off completely.

OKay, first off, for everyone saying that Taylor is "too short", Robbie Coltrane is 6'1"--and he played HAGRID. there is this thing called CGI, which can make people like feet taller. You cant just change actors in the middle of a series like this, not when the previous actor is still alive and healthy. Taylor proved himself worthy of the part in twilight, and he should get the chance to show himself in new moon.
And please stop saying the "Stephenie Meyer wanted Steven Strait" because we dont know WHAT she wants right now.

hey, look, i think michael copon is a total PRICK who has a fetish for mirrors but thats beside the point; i doubt they'll cast him after all the fans who have slammed him..
basically taylor is absoloutely spot-on perfect for the part, except for two things: his height and his cheerfulness. i am hoping that they can use effects on his height - i mean, it worked for robbie coltrane - but from what i've seen summit are total cheapskates. the twilight effects were pretty much early-dr.who-level.. only rob's total, utter HOTness and the whole cast's acting skills saved it from complete disaster. but if they can't fix the height then its awful after all the effort taylor's gone but they have 2 cast steven strait :( dammit coz i love taylor otherwise.

also taylors just so sweet and cheerful.. this is perfect 4 jake most of the time, but in the books jacob can be a complete jerkass and im not convinced taylor can pull off jake's dark, angry side.. but i could be wrong, i hope so coz i really really REALLY luv taylor as jake! he has the nat. american look and the gorj. smile, also he seemed really jake-ish in twilight. but if they can't or won't do anything convincing bout his height then.. soz but they have 2 replace him, and strait seems like a good choice.

I personally own shoes,(that are not high heels, haha id die) to wear at work they're plain black, look totally normal and make me 5'3' and im only 4 '11' so they definetely would not have to use special effects on Steven . maybe casting people a bit more like they were in the book should have come to summit's mind when they cast a not-so-tiny alice and not-so-beautiful rosalie and a jasper without loads of bites up his arms.
even if they had though, i think these people are being too pessimistic about special effects and what they can do. also jacob LOVES his role, i mean taylor. taylor loves his role and it would be unfair to take it away from him you can see how excited he is in all his interviews. this is OBVIOUSLY a big thing for him.

I dont understand the obession over Taylor Lautner. Yes he was good as jacob in the first movie but in the books it is clear that during his transformation, he grows and even though jacob is 16, he looks like an adult. I think that Steven Strait would be absolutely perfect as jacob after he transforms. If not, i think the Micheal Copon would be good as well and still better than taylor. Also, as an Edward fan, i think that if Taylor Lautner is jacob, there wont be enough competition against the two. They need someone just as hot as robert to play the role of jacob. Because if u notice our opinions are sometimes swayed. LIke when evrybody hated that rob was cast for edward then stephenie meyer gave him her blessing all of a sudden everyone was like 'i luv u rob!' and ppl like him because there thinking of him as edward not as rob. rob had even said that in an interview. someone had came up to him and asked him to bite her neck! wat the crap?! robert isnt really edward ppl! so wat im trying to say is that since taylor was jacob in the first one alot of ppl just think of him as jacob and interchangeable rather than taylor.the only reason why i dont really want jacob to be recast is because it will seem fake if his face looks completely different in the second movie because jacob was just supposed to become more bulky not change his face. also i heard taylor had mentioned wat they did in that movie 'the curious case of benjamin button' with cgi and everything and maybe that could work for him. i think that would take to much time tho. I used to be all 'Grrr' over this because I wanted Taylor to be Jacob. I decided on something though.


I DO NOT care about the actors, the locations, or anything else BUT the emotions. New Moon has very strong emotions in it, and I want those emotions captured and brought to the screen. If Michael can bring the emotions better than Taylor, then in my view, he's a better choice. If Steven can do that, then he's the better choice. If Taylor can do that, then he's the better choice.



It really shows how much love Bella and Edward have for each other, and leads up to the emotions that Jacob has for Bella, not strictly on crush-level anymore. This book affected my emotions so much that I want to see them on the big screen. I want to FEEL Bella's pain while it's played across the screen, I want to SEE Jacob's devotion in the beginning. Nothing else matters to me anymore but the emotions.

I totally think that Steven Strait should be Jacob because he definately looks the part of Jacob when he become the werewolf. Taylor looks way to young to be Jacob in New Moon and Steven would be Perfect! Even Stephanie Meyer, the author of the book thinks he should play Jacob and I 100% agree!!!!

Honestly I'm not saying that I didn't like Taylor as Jacob in Twilight because I felt he captured Jacob at first sight really well. What I trying to say is that even though he was able to Play Jacob in Twilight I don't feel that we would carry Jacob well in New Moon, I mean if he started New Moon then that would be cool but to finish New Moon, I think not. I feel Steven Strait already having played roles parallel such as His character in Sky high for humor and his character in The covenant, with intensity and maturity. I think he would make a great choice for Jacob especially after the transformation. Besides he was Stephenie's choice to began with. Michael Copon for the role is just laughable and sorry to say this I would pass on the film if he were chosen, I rather stick with Taylor than risk having him ruin the character.

What I trying to say is that even though he was able to Play Jacob in Twilight I don't feel that we would carry Jacob well in New Moon, I mean if he started New Moon then that would be cool but to finish New Moon, I think not. I feel Steven Strait already having played roles parallel such as His character in Sky high for humor and his character in The covenant, with intensity and maturity. I think he would make a great choice for Jacob especially after the transformation. Besides he was Stephenie's choice to began with. Michael Copon for the role is just laughable and sorry to say this I would pass on the film if he were chosen, I rather stick with Taylor than risk having him ruin the character.

I agree with Hannah. Not on who should play him, but why the New Moon Jacob should be older. The truth of the matter is that the character undergoes a major transformation and the easiest way to show that is in his phycial appearance. I too liked Taylor as Jacob, but I can't be sentimental about it. I want what's best for the character. Sorry.

He's been working out since finishing Twilight and put on 20lbs of muscles, he also guarantees at least 10 more lbs by the beginning of shooting of New Moon. And do you rememeber the look he gave Edward by the end of Twilight? It was absolutely perfect -- perfect Jacob look.
