Will the Real Chris Weitz Please Stand Up

in Chris Weitz

200812230902.jpg Just who is the Real Chris Weitz? Is it the sensitive director who knock About a Boy outta the park? Or is it the kludgy filmmaker responsible for the mess of The Golden Compass? That’s what Film.com writer Dre Rivas wonders–

I eagerly awaited The Golden Compass and was heartbroken at the result. It’s not that the film was terrible; it’s that it was painfully mediocre and it shouldn’t have been painfully mediocre. It should have been great and not absent of any real emotion. Yes, visually it worked. And he did his best not to wuss out on the bear fight. But those books were not dull. Yet he managed to make a movie about a bear with armor who talks, witches who kick ass, and demons who are a piece of each human’s soul … he managed to make all of these things boring. Where was the awe? Where was the magic?

I’m not sure who the real Chris Weitz is — whether he’s the guy who made one of my favorite comedies in the last ten years (About a Boy), or the man who buried a potentially huge trilogy. He is certainly a capable director, but did he learn from his mistakes? I genuinely hope so. Nothing would make me happier than seeing New Moon become The Wrath of Khan of the series. Or, at least, The Mummy Returns. Only time will tell. In the meantime, Twilighters, start biting those fingernails.

We mentioned this concern when we were interviewed recently–saying “Twilight is not an effects-packed action story, it’s a love story. He’ll need to channel his About a Boy sensitive side if he wants to please the fans.”

Which Chris Weitz Will Direct New Moon?

Golden Compass had no emotion, it was just there. You didn't really care what happened. Only the CGI and effects were good but it wasn't entirely Chris Weitz who made the failure. The actors could put more emotion into the acting and the story itself was dull, I never read it but the story is another bad made copy cat of Narnia and I don't think Chris had the heart to do it as he also thought it was boring. For new moon, he will probably to a good job because he actually cares about the characters and the story, therefore he will put emotion into it and the cool CGI effects making it better than twilight! But twilight was good also, but New moon will be better as it actually moves on from the dragging story of finding out Edward is a vampire because we all already know!
  • ya i agree

i agree with you its not like it makes him feel better knowing people dont approve of him
  • My name is Elaine. I'm a huge Twilight fan. I'm really excited about New Moon and am trying to get Twilight fans to listen to one of my favorite artists because I've read that he wants his music in New Moon. His name is Rick Mugrage. His music is perfect for the Twilight series!! His songs "Leaving For Good", “Signs” and "Medicate" are so perfect for New Moon or ANY of the movies in the series. The lyrics and the feel of them are PERFECT!! He’s a HUGE Twilight fan too, which I think is cool. I'm getting so bugged by artists like the Jonas Brothers who want to just jump on the band wagon and have their music used just because the books and the movie are popular now. Rick Mugrage is awesome because his music is perfect for The Twilight series, but above all he's a fan of Twilight!!! You can check out his songs on his myspace at http://www.myspace.com/rickmugrage ANY of the first three would be amazing for the Twilight movies.
You’ve got to listen to Rick's muisc! I promise you’ll dig it and if you’re a Twilight fan you’ll definitely agree it fits the series. He’s an indie artist from Oregon and is starting to make waves. Check him out and tell people to add his songs "Leaving For Good", “Signs” and "Medicate" for the New Moon soundtrack.

Here’s a link to his music video on youtube for “Signs” too!

I want to see this artist get a break. He's so talented. It would be so cool to seem him get a chance to have his music on any of the Twilight films!

Okay, this is starting to bother me.

Everyone is being so jugdmental on Chris Weitz. He directed About A Boy, a fabulous movie, but then directed a "failure," The Golden Compass, which I, personally, enjoyed. Just because of that one "failure" it is more likely that he'll fail in transferring New Moon from the book to the big screen than making it a success. Really, people, calm down and give the man a chance. NO, movies are NEVER going to be as good as the books, so don't have a freak show if it isn't. You might love the books, but think of how it makes him feel hearing everyone criticize his work that he might've enjoyed directing the most. I actually think that Chris will do an amazing job on the movie, and, prove me wrong if you may, bash me if you want, but that's my opinion on the subject.

Main point is... don't judge the movie BEFORE the filming has even started. No, wait - don't judge the movie just because he did a "poor" job with The Golden Compass. You never know what could happen.

I think that we all just need to calm down and give him a chance! I think his special effects will be great and he will deffinetly add all the intensity to the movie, because of the bear fighting scene he created. He deffinetly made that scene intense. I i hope that he will be able create the agony of Bella. I think that haveing a new director will be the best thing that summit has ever done for twlilght!
