BREAKING: Dakota Fanning Offered Role of Jane

dakota fanning as jane in new moon E! is reporting that 14-year old Dakota Fanning, star of War of the Worlds and The Secret Life of Bees, is poised to play Jane in New Moon, pending negotiations:

It’s possible. I can exclusively report that the 14-year-old child star—she turns 15 on Feb. 23—is in talks to play Jane opposite Robert Pattinson & Co. in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to box office megahit Twilight.

“There were no auditions,” a source reveals. “They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth.”

Jane is a member of Italy’s Volturi, the most deadly group of bloodsucking killers in author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series.

In the casting notice we got our hands on earlier this month, Jane is described as a petite blonde with a “Botticelli angel-like face…[and] crimson irises.” While fellow Volturi guards Demetri & Felix “are three times the size of her, they are terrified of her,” the casting notice reads.

    I can see why they would want her, she is sweet and angelic but i dont think she has the right darkness for role, jane is ment to be a darker character in my opinion and she is just abit to hollywood and sweet.

    I agree about the "darkness" issue. I know she did Hide and Seek but it's not about looking scared or looking outright scary. As I read the books I pictured her looking cute and little-girlish but with an air of evil. More of a "if looks could kill" kinda actor. I think Dakota will do fine if they cast her but she probably won't look as threatening and evil as I pictured Jane to be in my mind.

Of course to look at Dakota now , she is not going to be dark enough, but it is amazing what the camera and make-up can do, and besides as far as her being too young.....she is supposed to be young that was the point, when it's all said and done, and you see her as Jane, I think you all will see it too

    Ditto to what you said about looking too sweet....plus if you see her in the trailer for her new movie with <gasp> Summit Entertainment..."PUSH" she is supposed to be this clairvouyant girl but every time she "concentrates" so she can see the future she looks so funny, yet she is trying to look super serious like she is concentrating. IDK...we'll see how she does. I want this movie to be awesome so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.|!

    i think she'd be pretty good as Jane. i always saw Jane as rather young and still childish. plus, she's about the right height, i think. she's an amazing actress, though i do worry how it will affect her role. i'd think i'd want a bigger role than Jane actually has in the book. maybe that's the negotiations.

    Dakota is a doll, but she is way too young! Give a chance to an unknown actress! For example RPattz wasn't famous before, and now he's in the top men of 2008 & hottest men 2008 etc!

    Did we all read the same book Jane is a young girl Alec and Jane are considered the children of the Voultri. Thats what makes her the most deadly shes very young looking and she poses these offensive powers.

    omg i agree! i can't believe you guys think she's too young! the book said she looked young! and bella couldn't figure out why everyone was so threatened by her since she was so petite and unthreatening looking. and dakota is an AMAZING actress! she gives me chills whenever i watch movies she's in! she would be so great for the movie!

    In response to that, I'd like to say, isn't that what acting is? You give a performance that most likely has nothing to do with you. You're not supposed to look like you can burn someone on the inside, you're just supposed to be able to bring it to the screen in an interesting way that the viewers can believe. Dakota Fanning can give a believable performance.

    Dakota is pretty tall and mature-looking for her age.

    I totally agree with ^ ^(above, Derek) i have always liked Jodelle Ferland ever since i saw her in Smallville as Lana's dead childhood friend, Emily, she played the creepy role so well, like in Silent Hill.
    She would suit the role much better than Dakota anyday! She is more familiar with a kind of mysterious and "intimidating"( since Felix and Demitri are frightened of her. Hopefully they will choose the right person for Jane (Jodelle).

    For ppl who have seen her on Smallville "I'm not dead Lana", LOL.

    Nor was Kristen Stewart.
    And, if I recall correctly, I've seen Kellan in Stick It, Accepted, Prom Night, episodes of The Comeback, and then a Hinder music video to their song 'Without You.'
    Sure, they weren't the biggest stars out there, but they definitely weren't unknown. I think Dakota Fanning would be a great choice.

    I don't mean to sound rude at all, so I'm sorry if you receive it that way.

    Also, not to say that this would happen, but why go with an unknown who could possibly suck than go with an actress who is a good choice and could give a believable performance?

    Actually Robert was in tons of movies just not here in the states. One that has big reviews is the haunted airman. If you have not seen him in it look it up on you tube, just shows you what a versatile actor he is.

    Jane is slight with short, pale brown hair. She has a rather slim and androgynous figure. She has an angelic face, which is the only thing that keeps her from being mistaken for a boy. She has wide eyes, full lips, and a childlike voice. Her eyes are red/black. Along with her face being angelic, it is also described as being fiercly childlike. She is in her early teen years.

She has experience in making movies like this, so I think that's an advantage. But Jane is small (as said in the book). I don't know if she's supposed to be young. But there's nothing make-up and clothes can't do ;). I think she'll be able to do it, but there are more actresses. And if they cast Dakota it's going to go all hollywood (like many people said). I wouldn't mind if the part goes to a less known actress =).

I think Dakota would be great for the part plus we have always visualized her as a "sweet" actor so maybe this would be the turn she needed to become even better.     Damn Skippy. I totally agree with Luigi, (you see my other post above) but Jodelle is perfect she has long, dark wavy hair ( as SEVERAL people imagined her having) and is more childlike than stupid Dakota. Jodelle is 13 and in my opinion she is perfect for the role! GO JODELLE!!

She's famous enough and they don't need to add anyone else to the famosity of the situation that already is. I think they should find a nobody and actually have auditions at least to allow the nobody finding process to begin.

    I love Dakota :)! Her acting is great and her movies too ^^~. I didn't picture her immediately as Jane, but if she gets casted I woudn't be sad. She has experience in making movies like this, so I think that's an advantage. But Jane is small (as said in the book). I don't know if she's supposed to be young. But there's nothing make-up and clothes can't do ;). I think she'll be able to do it, but there are more actresses. And if they cast Dakota it's going to go all hollywood (like many people said). I wouldn't mind if the part goes to a less known actress =).

    I think if summit entertainment, chris and Stephanie are all working together to figure who would be best for the part then I trust their judgement. I think Dakota would be great for the part plus we have always visualized her as a "sweet" actor so maybe this would be the turn she needed to become even better. I really don't care who they cast as long as they can portray the characters well. They are not going to make everyone happy.

I think she has the 'childlike' or 'angelic' look that Stephanie Meyer describes but also has the ability to be scary.

    I think Jane would be perfect for this role. She looks as young as Jane is supposed to look. Movies like 'Hide and Seek' prove that she can play a creepy yet childlike role. I think she can look 'childlike' or 'angelic' as Stephanie Meyer describes Jane but can also be scary.

    I think Dakota would make an excellent Jane...she has great depth for an actress and has already accomplished so much at such a young age...I think she would make the character of Jane really come alive...she is extremely talented for her age....She also fits the description of Jane perfectly...Awesome choice in my books!!!!

She has wide eyes, full lips, and a childlike voice. Her eyes are red/black. Along with her face being angelic, it is also described as being fiercly childlike. She is in her early teen years.
