I agree about the "darkness" issue. I know she did Hide and Seek but it's not about looking scared or looking outright scary. As I read the books I pictured her looking cute and little-girlish but with an air of evil. More of a "if looks could kill" kinda actor. I think Dakota will do fine if they cast her but she probably won't look as threatening and evil as I pictured Jane to be in my mind.

In response to that, I'd like to say, isn't that what acting is? You give a performance that most likely has nothing to do with you. You're not supposed to look like you can burn someone on the inside, you're just supposed to be able to bring it to the screen in an interesting way that the viewers can believe. I totally agree with ^ ^(above, Derek) i have always liked Jodelle Ferland ever since i saw her in Smallville as Lana's dead childhood friend, Emily, she played the creepy role so well, like in Silent Hill.
She would suit the role much better than Dakota anyday! She is more familiar with a kind of mysterious and "intimidating"( since Felix and Demitri are frightened of her. Hopefully they will choose the right person for Jane (Jodelle).

Actually Robert was in tons of movies just not here in the states. One that has big reviews is the haunted airman. If you have not seen him in it look it up on you tube, just shows you what a versatile actor he is.

I love Dakota :)! Her acting is great and her movies too ^^~. I didn't picture her immediately as Jane, but if she gets casted I woudn't be sad. She has experience in making movies like this, so I think that's an advantage. But Jane is small (as said in the book). I don't know if she's supposed to be young. But there's nothing make-up and clothes can't do ;). I think she'll be able to do it, but there are more actresses. And if they cast Dakota it's going to go all hollywood (like many people said). I wouldn't mind if the part goes to a less known actress =).

Damn Skippy. I totally agree with Luigi, (you see my other post above) but Jodelle is perfect she has long, dark wavy hair ( as SEVERAL people imagined her having) and is more childlike than stupid Dakota. Jodelle is 13 and in my opinion she is perfect for the role! GO JODELLE!!

I think if summit entertainment, chris and Stephanie are all working together to figure who would be best for the part then I trust their judgement. I think Dakota would be great for the part plus we have always visualized her as a "sweet" actor so maybe this would be the turn she needed to become even better. I really don't care who they cast as long as they can portray the characters well. They are not going to make everyone happy.

She's a great actress, don't get me wrong. But there's something about her that won't and can't work with Jane. She's famous enough and they don't need to add anyone else to the famosity of the situation that already is. I think they should find a nobody and actually have auditions at least to allow the nobody finding process to begin.

i don't think the whole point of Twilight was suppose to be "small unknown actors". the whole point of Twilight was for the story. Who ever can portray a character as well as everyone in twilight has should be able to be part of new moon. even if it means for "A" lists to be part of the movie. I think Dakota Fanning is a good choice. She has played many different roles and if anyone has noticed the trailers for Push she looks alot older. She can pull the meanness and her doll like face is perfect. I always saw Jane as a young vampire but not to the point of a child and Dakota is not exactly "A" list.

Yeah i agree with having smaller actors in this film, you don't want the little role actors to take over the screen with now big actors rob and kristin. I think it would be weird to watch a really big actor like dakota playing a minor part in these movies, but thats me.. I really do like her though. Apparently, some people haven't actually read New Moon or they would realize that Jane and Alec are indeed very young in appearance. Not children, but not adults either. I've got the book open right now and Stephenie uses phrases like "At first I thought it was a young boy" and "her childish voice". Yes, it's obvious she's supposed to be small, but her adjectives also implied a youthfulness to her look as well.

One thing is for certain, she never specified age in any way; she just insinuated. So for people to be shouting that Dakota is too young to play Jane, well there doesn't seem to be an age requirement to play a 300+ year old Vampire.

I personally think she'll do a fabulous job. She's a great actress and has shown an ability to portray very mature characters (the mini series Taken, for example). As for her "A-list" status, I don't think that should have any bearing on whether an actress or actor can faithfully play a character.

Okay. First of all, we are all supporting Dakota because she is a great actress. I don't know where you're getting this 'she's prissy' stuff from, because she most definitely is not that. She's pretty mature for a 14 year old, and has been called a professional actress. Yeah, it's good to have fresh new talent, but what are the odds that the casting people are going to find great actors who are also undiscovered in the next month and a half? They start shooting in late March. They don't have all the time in the world to just be looking for the PERFECT person who's a PERFECT actor and fits the book's description PERFECTLY. If I remember right they never said how old Jane was in the book they just said she looked young and petite and would make a boticilli (sp?) angel look like a demon. Dakota is perfect in my eyes she fits the description. People saying she doesn't look scary or intimidating enough should stop looking at the picture above. Do you think she is going to try to look intimidating while not doing a movie? She has done a great job at all of the movies she has done and I trust that Chris and Stephanie are probably working together on casting so if they think Dakota fits the part then I trust their judgement. About the no name actors filling the role. What does it matter as long as the actor does a good job. A few of the actors in twilight i recall were not no names and they did fine. Sometime no names aren't always the best choices either, because sometimes you get no names who can't act at all. And hey even if they cast more popular actors that means more people might go see it when someone they know is in it, and therefore it will get more money to make Eclipse! : ) I can't wait for the movie no matter who they cast and that is was matters. If I remember right they never said how old Jane was in the book they just said she looked young and petite and would make a boticilli (sp?) angel look like a demon. Dakota is perfect in my eyes she fits the description. People saying she doesn't look scary or intimidating enough should stop looking at the picture above. Do you think she is going to try to look intimidating while not doing a movie? She has done a great job at all of the movies she has done and I trust that Chris and Stephanie are probably working together on casting so if they think Dakota fits the part then I trust their judgement. About the no name actors filling the role. What does it matter as long as the actor does a good job. A few of the actors in twilight i recall were not no names and they did fine. Sometime no names aren't always the best choices either, because sometimes you get no names who can't act at all. And hey even if they cast more popular actors that means more people might go see it when someone they know is in it, and therefore it will get more money to make Eclipse! : ) I can't wait for the movie no matter who they cast and that is was matters. Jane is a sadistic guard of the Volturi and a pet of Aro's. She seems rather bitter and easily justifies inflicting pain on anyone with her power. Jane has a twin brother named Alec and they both reside in Volterra, Italy.

I actually like the idea of Dakota Fanning playing Jane..I can see her take an evil turn. I was rooting for some great unknown actors in these movies, but i think dakota would make a good jane!

Dakota Fanning is a truly great actress; I could really see her getting into the role of Jane. Right now, she may not look a bit like how Jane is portrayed, but I'm sure there are people out there who never imagined Edward and Jacob to look the way they were seen in the books. Think of how different Nikki Reed looks with all the make-up, and so many other people who have main roles in Twilight. It's really annoying me about all the rumors going around. Honestly I think Dekota Fanning would be a wrong choice for the movie new moon because you want to portrait the character Jane with a fresh face someone who is is not so already in the limelight. When people watch new moon they wont be able to really see Janes character for what it is there just going to see Dekota(from prior movies), and nothing else. I think it would be more enjoyable to see a new face never really seen before. Thats my opinion.
