New Moon Soundtrack Could be “More Experimental”

E! Online talks a bit about how the songs for the Twilight soundtrack were chosen–and the process for the New Moon soundtrack one. Basically, anything is up in the air to be included, and it could even turn out to be a bit more adventerous.

The songs for New Moon haven’t been nailed down yet—the flick is still in preproduction after all—but do I have some gossip on the movie anyway? You bet.

First, some background. When it comes to Twilight’s soundtrack, you may credit legendary music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, who has also curated the music for TV shows The OC, Roswell, Chuck, Mad Men and Without a Trace. Patsavas is also on board to supervise the sound for New Moon. Now the gossip…

The new director, Chris Weitz, has been sending out signals that he may be open to a more experimental soundtrack than his predecessor. That could mean songs that sparkle even more than the movie’s vampires when they get caught in the sun.

“I think that might be the way it’s going,” says Marisa Baldi, West Coast partner for Zync, a music brokerage that funneled two songs onto the Twilight soundtrack. “I get the vibe that the guy is a little more into being surprised…everything is really open, and he wants to hear a lot of cool music.”

I’m all for a more experimental soundtrack–the Twilight soundtrack was great, but with the higher profile of New Moon it needn’t rely on big names, what matters is how it fits the mood of the movie. Speaking of the soundtrack, coming soon will be a huge new soundtrack poll, with a runoff between the winners of our free-for-all poll from last month. Plus, you might so a couple of suggestions for what we’d like to see on the soundtrack as well!

My name is Olivia Bonilla and I wrote a song based on the second book in the Twilight series, New Moon, and it was submitted for consideration, but sadly the song was not selected to be on the motion picture soundtrack. I think it would be pretty sweet to have some new and different music in the soundtrack. I really really realllllly feel that the song "Swim" by Jack's Mannequin should make the movie, especially for the cliff-diving parts. Nightwish, Nightwish, Nightwish...they have a few songs from their Dark, Passion, Play album that would be SO perfect for New Moon. When I hear them sing 'For the Heart I Once Had', all I can think of is Bella being reckless on the motorcycle, trying to hear Edward! Also, their song '7 Days to the Wolves' is PERFECT for ECLIPSE!

Hana Pestles song *need* is so perfect for the soundtrack- the mood it gives...I had just started reading new moon when I heard need for the first time and it made me cry because it fit so perfectly. nothing like a great book/movie with the perfect songs for it. :)

Lastly Stephanie meyer was influenced by many grest bands, I feel there should be some input from these bands into the soundtrack again; ie MUSE!

I mean MUSE is her favourite band, have them collaborate on a tune for the film.

DONT CHANGE BELLA'S LULLABY!!!

Reading the books, than hearing the soundtracks version for the film, I loved it, and it was really close to how I imagined it to sound. The overall theme should be that whenever Bella and Edward are alone, or having some private moment between themselves, that lullaby should be playing in the film.

I think I will be very irritated if they dont play that lullaby from the first film, and madder still if they change it.

I really really realllllly feel that the song "Swim" by Jack's Mannequin should make the movie, especially for the cliff-diving parts. The message of the song really fits the book and would probably fit the movie perfectly. PLUS Stephenie is a JM fan =D And I also agree, MORE MUSE!!! Interestingly enough, I think some Sigur Ros music could fit the mood pretty well, too.

i dont know what they mean by more....experimental??? but i really hope they get the songs right.we dont need huge names here,the movie is already big by itself. just get meaningful songs that go with the mood of whatever is going on and plp will like it.

im really looking forward to see what song they will choose for the scene when edward leaves and the intro song cause that what gets the movie going.
i didnt like the arizona song in twilight xD but i guess it made sense lol

twilight soundtrack was great. and i just recently found the band "oh, hush" they have a myspace and several songs that fit the new moon movie. everyone should check them out. as soon as i heard the music i was instantly hooked.

Hana Pastle's "Need" HAS to get on the soundtrack.. i mean haven't you listened to it?! its beyond perfect!!!! its like crazyyyy. if that song isnt on the soundtrack / in the movie, im going to be sooo upset!!
and paramore should deffininatlly be on again.. that band is amazing and it should be on the next soundtrack because "Decode" was perfect for Twilight. i'm sure they and get another awesome song that deals with this concept.

oh thank u someone with sense they have to include Muse but its obvious that they will, i mean they even played them in the background when the three guys walked out to present the trailer at the VMA's they'll surely be in all 4 movie's
