Taylor Lautner showed off his progress so far pumping up for New Moon, and spoke to reporters about his progress-

Some actors will go to extremes to get a part, but to reprise his role of Jacob Black in “New Moon,” the sequel to “Twilight,” Taylor Lautner told Access Hollywood he has had to “basically kill myself.”

“I get into the gym every single day, seven days a week, two hours a day, eat as much as I possibly can,” he told Access at our 3rd Annual ‘Stuff You Must Lounge’ at the Sofitel LA hotel on Saturday. “[I’m] going crazy.”

The buff actor said he’s put on 26 pounds since starting his training regimen the day after he finished filming “Twilight” — and he’s not done yet.

“It’s motivation for my passion [for] the character,” he said. “I knew it was a necessity for the character. I’m stoked to be a part of this.”

Here’s a brand new interview with Taylor Lautner where he talks, post-casting-controversy, about what he’s done to prepare for the movie. He’s excited about working with Chris Weitz, who is “extremely talented”, and is eating heavily to buff up–but no Big Macs, only protein shakes.

Stud-puppy werewolf Taylor Lautner won’t be the only one howling when he comes back as the leader of the pack in the Twilight sequel, New Moon. Fanggirls everywhere will probably be squealing with supernatural glee, too, especially if they like their young dudes righteously ripped. Because 16-year-old Taylor tells E! that he is totally stoked, working out like mad and eating as much as possible trying to bulk up for the muscular role. Arrroooooh!!!!

Joan Simunic at the Courier-Journal from Louisville, KY has harsh words for New Moon, opining that–

New Moon (second book), by contrast, should have a bold “Parental Guidance” warning. Edward leaves Bella and she becomes clinically depressed. She turns to Jacob for support, and then embarks on a series of self-destructive actions, seeking to reconnect with Edward at the risk of almost-certain death. Not surprisingly, Bella does not succeed at causing her own demise, and she is eventually reunited with Edward. Because New Moon glorifies Bella’s suicidal behavior and her obsession with Edward, it is a disappointment from an author like Meyer. New Moon begs for a follow-up parent-’tween discussion about evaluating relationships, obsessive relationships, handling rejection, risk-taking, and suicide.

Though she has better things to say for Twilight and Breaking Dawn, she thinks New Moon and Eclipse should be skipped altogether. I think Simunic is overly critical of New Moon. Every story needs a character arc, and happiness doesn’t come without sad times too.

Coeds, werewolves and vampires

Jackson Rathbone was interviewed at a concert for his band 100 Monkeys by MTV. Rathbone hasn’t been given the script yet–”They have not yet released the script. So I’m still waiting on that, but I assume it’s going to be pretty fantastic.” He’s hardly aware of the controversy surrounding the movie so far though–

When we asked Rathbone about the controversies surrounding new director Chris Weitz replacing “Twilight” filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke, his reply was simple and honest, just like something you might hear from his character Jasper Hale. “Oh, that’s one of those things that’s kind of a whole political side of the acting thing, you know?” he shrugged. “I really don’t know much about [the change in directors]; I’m just an actor. They tell me where to stand and what to say.”

He does, however, have a favorite scene in New Moon that he’s looking forward to shooting–

“There is definitely [a scene I can't wait to shoot]; there’s a scene where Miss Bella gets a little paper cut, and it makes me a little hungry,” he laughed. “So, I’m very excited to film that.”
