Lana Veenker has posted a whopper of an update for anyone looking for casting information. Notably, a Los Angeles casting company has been hired, a Vancouver casting company is about to be announced, a casting company has been hired exclusively to find actors for the Native American roles, and no new information is available for extras casting in Vancouver or LA or casting in Italy. Check out the whole shebang over at The Casting Scoop.
On the red carpet for Edi Gathegi’s newest film My Bloody Valentine 3-D last night, he spoke with Shock Till You Drop about his role in New Moon:
On the red carpet for that film last night, Gathegi told us he’s currently shooting a pilot, then it’s on to the Twilight follow-up New Moon, the entry populated by vampires and werewolves.
“I get to play another bad guy,” he grinned, to which we reply: Another? “Well, the same guy [Laurent] but I get to reprise the badness. In the first book I’m bad but good. In the next one, I’m bad. We start shooting in a few months.”
My Bloody Valentine 3D opens up next Friday, January 16th.
Edi Gathegi Ready to Bite into New Moon
Summit has issued a press release with the following with the following statement from Taylor Lautner, accepting his role as Jacob Black in
New Moon:
“My experience on TWILIGHT was wonderful and I am looking forward to continuing on with the team for NEW MOON,” said Lautner. “I have been working hard preparing for the physicality that this role will require and can’t wait to get started with the filming of NEW MOON.”

Acting411 has updated the casting information for New Moon and Eclipse. You might have a shot at an extras spot, but unless you have a professional agent other positions are much less likely. Linkage:

You guys made abundantly clear in the comments of our recent post about the possibility of sugar-coated Disney stars Vanessa Hudgens or Brenda Song starring in New Moon as Leah that they’re not right for the part of Leah. Another voice joins the fray, over at MTV:
I thought to myself, “Disney Channel Stars? Miley Cyrus? Nope. Ashley Tisdale? I hope not. Selena Gomez? Possible. Vanessa Hudgens? No way. She can’t go from “High School Musical” to “Twilight?” She can’t be that lucky.”
Apparently, she might be.
The girl who’s made boys go gaga in all three High School Musicals (HSM) (and in those naughty pictures too) is rumored to be one of the top two contenders. Who’s the other hopeful? The super-cute and super-funny Brenda Song! You might know her as the spoiled and not so very smart London Tipton alongside Ashley Tisdale in Disney’s “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.”
If you ask me, neither of these gals are good picks. As for Brenda, I love her. She’s cute, funny, and makes the Asian in me sing with glee and glow with pride at how successful she’s been as a Disney Channel star; but, she’s no Leah.
Why would Vanessa – one of the stars of HSM – opt for a minor character? Even though the film is destined to be another mega hit, does she really need this role that badly? Plus, I can’t picture Gabriella Montez running around the woods growling at people.
Who Should Play Leah Clearwater In ‘New Moon’? An MTV Staffer Weighs In
MTV’s Kim Stoltz has this quick look at
some of 2009′s most anticipated movies, including New Moon.
Hot off the presses…..well, Stephenie Meyer’s site that is……
Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris Weitz
I’d just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.
