MTV has a great interview up with Edi Gathegi, who plays Laurent. During the interview, Taylor Lautner called him–

“Taylor and I are going to his parents’ place for dinner tonight — and then go to the gym,” he said, adding that the duo were getting together to celebrate Lautner’s recent re-signing as Jacob Black. “We’re going to celebrate tonight. … You should see this kid! He’s jacked. He’s taking it seriously

“We’ve worked out in every city on our tour,” Edi said of his 16-year-old spotter. “If you see him, you’ll know immediately. This kid is so strong right now, it is unreal. He has achieved with his body what people with steroids cannot achieve. The only way I can describe it is that God has given him this time for this growth spurt and this body right now.”

Gathegi also had a bit to say about the new director for New Moon–

Commenting on the directorial musical chairs, Gathegi said he has yet to meet the new man in charge of the series, Chris Weitz. “Catherine [Hardwicke] was a doll. I loved that woman. I think she made the decisions she made for her reasons,” he said. “Now I’m looking forward to the future. I’m looking forward to working with Chris. I think he’s very capable. He’s got that experience with huge pictures, with ‘The Golden Compass.’ He’s going to make it beautiful. I loved ‘American Pie,’ so his track record is very promising for me. And I heard he’s great with actors. I think ‘New Moon’ is going to be really good. … He’s up to his neck in things to do, so he’s not concerned with [meeting with the returning actors yet]. We’ll meet on set.”

He hasn’t read the script yet, but apparently Robert Pattinson has!–

As for the moment, Gathegi said only half-jokingly, he’s just trying to get a script to read. “I’m going to fire someone, because Robert [Pattinson] read it. He’s like a supporting role in the freakin’ film!” the actor smiled, threatening to call Mr. Pattinson on his cell phone. “Nah, he’s in London now. I don’t want to make any long-distance calls. I’m cheap.”

Are you a young Native American, or do you know someone that is? Well you might just be perfect for a part in the wolf pack of New Moon. But be quick, the deadline is at the end of this month!—

We’re very excited to announce that the wonderful and supremely qualified René Haynes is helming the Native American casting on “New Moon”…AND she wants to hear from everyone who fits the qualifications of the roles.

Now, before everyone hyperventilates, please read the following instructions and follow them TO THE LETTER, in order to ensure your chances at being considered for the film:

Casting Director René Haynes and her staff are very happy to accommodate any Native teens and young adults (who look very youthful) who are interested in sending them an audition.

HOW TO SUBMIT

First thing to do if you fit the specs is to email a recent photo and your contact information to: info@rhcasting.com.

They are not currently seeking submissions for any roles other than the ones mentioned here, so only respond if you meet the above requirements.

YouTube user maa051975 (how easy to remember!) has posted a great video about ideas for casting in New Moon. The video has a description of the character from the book before the casting suggestion, so you can see just how apropriate the suggestions are. Of course, remember this was made a few weeks ago so ignore the suggestions of Seven Strait as the older version of Jacob Black. Here is what maa051975 has to say:

If I could cast for Stephanie Meyer’s New Moon this is how I would do it. This would be a dream cast for the upcoming movie but the budget would have to be high to afford some of the A listers I have selected. My favorite characters of New Moon are very well described by Stephanie Meyers book but the casting in Twilight took a complete deviation from what the book mentions. In my video I show a written description of the characters with their picture. Most of these characters require very little to no physical change beyond hair color to match the book. A lot of casting suggestions I have seen online have actors who do not look the age, ethnicity, or physical appearance of the characters they represent. Hope you enjoy my video as there are more to come.
