Taylor Lautner Buffing Up for New Moon

Taylor Lautner showed off his progress so far pumping up for New Moon, and spoke to reporters about his progress-

Some actors will go to extremes to get a part, but to reprise his role of Jacob Black in “New Moon,” the sequel to “Twilight,” Taylor Lautner told Access Hollywood he has had to “basically kill myself.”

“I get into the gym every single day, seven days a week, two hours a day, eat as much as I possibly can,” he told Access at our 3rd Annual ‘Stuff You Must Lounge’ at the Sofitel LA hotel on Saturday. “[I’m] going crazy.”

The buff actor said he’s put on 26 pounds since starting his training regimen the day after he finished filming “Twilight” — and he’s not done yet.

“It’s motivation for my passion [for] the character,” he said. “I knew it was a necessity for the character. I’m stoked to be a part of this.”

He is not 16!! He is 17 years old right now and going on 18 soon. He's an actor so he gets paid to do this. If you go to you tube and search for his interview with Access Hollywood, you'd see he's really happy with his progress, and for the record, it took him 4 months to put on 20 pounds and another month to put on 5 which a perfectly healthy amount of time to put on 20 to 25 pounds of muscle especially for a young guy his age (he isn't a boy! he's a growing young man). That is a realistic time frame. For your information I live in Hollywood, I work with personal trainers, and I have ran into Mr. Lautner and asked him about his progress. Also about his height, he is around 5'9 or 5'10 that is a perfectly fine height for the frame he has developed. Leave stats to body builders, Taylor Lautner isn't a body builder he's an actor who did his part and now has to play it. The directors will do the rest. Hollywood magic people, Hollywood magic!

True nice bod, but I thought all of us who read the books, are under the assumption that Jacob Black is almost 7ft. tall, humm, how tall does Taylor stand. guess they could put him on stilts..
  • nice bod he he
  • Tricia
New Moon wouldn't be the same without any of the original cast. Jacob is suppose to be "younger" and we see the transformation in the next series of books/movies. With technology nowadays they can make Jacob look anyway they want...taller, bigger, etc.
  • bxbaby8827
I think everyone needs to give Taylor a break. Ok so he does look younget than the character's apperance, but I still think that he will do a great job. He has worked really hard to pull this off. The only casting issue I have is with Kristen. I cannot see her as Bellas. I think Alexis Bledel from sisterhood of traveling pants would have been better. But I guess I have to deal with it. I cant wait to see New Moon! I am all about Team Jacob. I'm going to name my son after him..if I have one..lol...

If you remember, he was only supposed to be 15 in the first book, and as there are only a few years time over the four books, then in Breaking Dawn, he'll only be 17 or 18

Taylor tries so hard for this role, and it makes me very happy to know that he loves the series enough to put a lot of thought into the character's personality, inside and out. He BECOMES the character for a while, and that makes for a GREAT movie. Heck, it makes a great SERIES!
  • Taylor
No one has mentioned this, but I definitely think I should. I know it's going to be a touchy subject. First off, 5' 10" is NOT short. I don't know why people are saying it is, but it most definitely isn't. Granted, it is shorter than the 6'7" Jacob was described as, but there is a lot to be said about camera angles. Here's the touchy subject part. Don't flame me, I just used this as an example of angles: Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies. He's supposed to be half-giant, but in real life, the actor isn't that much taller than anyone else. But, by using certain camera angles, he appears huge. It's not a drastic change, it costs no more than traditional film shots, and it makes everyone happy. So, what's the problem?
  • Sara
Wow, good point angi, I never thought of that. I think Taylor is PERFECT for the role. Before we knew it would be him for sure, fans complained about it not being him, and now they complain that it is him. It's ridiculous.
Taylor WAS a better actor than Robert or Kristen, he'll be great in New Moon!

I agree that he shouldn't try to overdo it with working out though, he's still pretty young to be gaining so much muscle and it might not look right. BUT he is still the hottest 16-year-old (maybe even hottest guy) I've ever seen, and I absolutely love his devotion to the role and to making a great movie.

Taylor is exactly the way I imagined Jacob, with his bright smile and outgoing personality.

    GO TAYLOR!
  • Taylor
He used to do karate. In fact, he was the three-time Junior World Champion, all by age twelve. He's used to such hard work. And don't worry about him not being in shape before he started. He was quite healthy, but in a lean way. He kept that up doing football. I'm sure he knows what he's doing. It really great that you care, though. More people should speak out about potentially destructive habits actors have. I commend you!
  • angi
    What's with the height?!?!

    Per IMDB website:

    Brad Pitt 5'10"

    Tom Cruise 5'7"

    Johnny Depp 5'9"

    Jason Statham 5'10"

    Robert Downey Jr 5'9"

    TAYLOR LAUTNER........5'10"

Nobody complains about those other guys, it has never hurt any performance.

A height problem has never even been noticed no matter what role they play. It's

    called the magic of movies!!!!!
  • anen
I totally I agree I'm 21 yrs old and I'm a big supporter of Taylor. I was one of those fans who wrote to Summit regarding Taylor Keeping his role as Jacob. I was surprise to find out he was 16 I thought he was at least 18 but the fact that I thought that he looked Legal says a lot on Taylor's appearance and the height shouldn't be and issue.

    Taylor IS Jacob Black

I wasn't surprise when Taylor said that a middle age woman came up to him to sign her Team Jacob Panties xD he should expect more of that once New Moon comes around HAHAHAHA
  • shagalagadingdong.
people, i dont wanna be mean or anything, but i know how awesome it is for taylor to play jacob. BUT he looks weird trying to look buff cos he is short. but its aight. he is totally fit for the part. tho his body is...yeah :p
  • ~sombodysbella~
i hate to be a pessimist but he's probably going to get like some medical condition beacoase he's sooo young. i want him to play jacob too but im seriucly worried about his health....24 pounds in what 3 months?? not healthy!!
  • Sarah
Oh my goodness. I was deleting things and moving them around and changing my wording in that comment. That's why is says "teanager" and not "teenager".

I am completely ashamed of that oversight.
  • Sarah
If you think he looks 12, you obviously haven;t seen any 12 ( or 16 year olds for that matter) for a very long time. Just because most actors playing teenagers in movies and on tv are actually in their 20s doesn't mean teanagers REALLY look like that.

This is one of the very few believable casting decisions for a teenaged character. If anything he looks a little OLDER than sixteen.

Regardless of that, where did all this "He is supposed to look 25" crap come from? I know she says he suddenly has the body of a 25 year old, but the kid doesn't turn into a middle-aged man all of a sudden or anything.

    He's still a teenager.

    With a lot of muscles.

Gosh I wish twilight fans weren't the biggest complainers on the planet. It's embarassing.

He is great for the role! Plus, he is an actor who is truly and deeply passionate about his role as Jacob Black, he read the books. Unlike the other guy Michael Capon, who read sparknotes on TWILIGHT...which turns out really arent any for the book, People have to give Taylor a chance...we really cant judge him bad from what he did in Twilight, since he really didnt get alot of screen time ...so we just have to support the movie.

besides, Taylor Lautner IS Jacob Black...we all know him, and have grown fond of him in the first film. I personally don't think I would enjoy New Moon without the original cast. I think Taylor will be perfect for the role of Jacob. Look at the dedication he has towards the character. Obviously, he's very passionate about his role of Jacob, and trust me, he's not going to let down. We just have to give him a chance. He was one of the BEST actors in Twilight and, personally, (dare I say it?), he was even better than Robert Pattinson even though he had a smaller role. He'll be great in New Moon. Count on that.

BTW... give him credit!!! He's 16.... and clearly extremely passionate about the role... obvious from the routine that he's been enduring these past months!!! I have not seen a 16 y.o. give so much of himself and put some much effort into a character more than Taylor!

By the time New Moon is released... I think people will finally see the great potential he has and the successful interpretation of Jacob Black! I'm telling you, he is going to be AWESOME!!!! =D
  • i have to remind myself he's still a child!! but GOOD JOB! So glad he's still "My Jacob"!
  • Nicky
Wow! He looks way older than he did in Twilight, in Twilight he looked like a 15 y.o, disregarding his age, I think he looks about 19-20 years old! Good job, Taylor :D
  • Claire
I am personally SOOOOO happy the taylor is playin jacob, i honestly believe that he is the best person for the role! I am 15 years old and i can say that probably 95% of people watching Twilight and anticipating New Moon are between the ages of 12 and 20, and no he does not look 12, he looks a lot older than most of the juniors in my high school. I have read the Twilight saga through about 3 times and i cant see anyone else playing that role.
  • Chrisina
come on people! he's going to be great! out of all the people they were looking at to play jacob, taylor was the one who was totally dedicated to it. he's actually read the book and doesn't call it "twilight 2." he cares about the movie and jacob's character and he's worked so hard. you can at least give him a chance. and for the record, he doesn't look 12.
  • Carol
    Yes, he look like 12!
How he could be older jacob!

It's so bad! New Moon will be horrible, sorry... I really cant expect so much.
  • Annie
so happy he is going to be in new moon..... if they picked someone else i would have REFUSED to see it!!!! he has an amazing body and he is going to be amazing in new moon!!!!!
  • Kadijah
i really wanted them to have a taller and buffer guy to play jacob in New Moon but Taylor seems to be trying really hard So i think he can pull it off... Hopefully
  • Joani
It's not just the height...he looks 12!!! He has such a young face. I know special effects can age him..but seriously, if they're going to have to do all of these special effects to make him look so different why not pick an actor that IS different. Think about it. Jacob is supposed to look around 26 and Edward is supposed to look 17 for eternity...do you seriously think Taylor looks older than Rob? Muscles do not add the look of being 'grown up'. It's not just about the height...the guy doesn't even look like he's old enough to drive a car!

BetOnAlice…good point…as a matter of fact the actor who plays Gimli…the dwarf…is in real life the tallest of the fellowship…and in the Council of Elrond there is a scene where they all appear together…the humans, the hobbits, the elf, the dwarf, the wizard…all with the height that the character must have which is of course not the height they have in real life. I have the deluxe and extended editions of all three movies and everything related to LOTR since I’m a huge fan…and yes, height should not be a problem if they do it right…I saw that interview you talk about ;)

Well, Jacob is one if not the most complicated character in the series because he goes through great transformations in the physical aspect and in personality as well. In Twilight he’s just a nice kid, easy going with a beautiful smile that has a crush on Bella like the others teens around. In New Moon he becomes a real friend helping her in the darkest period of her life…his hopes increase thinking Edward is definitely gone and then he has to face responsibility…the kid is gone…he has to face the other side of his life, become a werewolf…. He falls seriously for Bella…he began to believe because he is now part of the fantasy at the same time he is still a teenager…hoping one day he could be again the nice boy with a normal life but knowing that such a thing is not going to happen.
I mean…is a lot, this could be the glory or the disaster in Taylor carrier. I can’t imagine what he’s going through while preparing for the character…is not just the gym, the psychological part is incredible important and to the top of that you have to ad Edward is gone 2/3 of the story and since everybody is obsess with him (me included of course) he has to do one hell of the job to carry the movie and keeping the interest on….so…good luck Taylor…we’ll se what happens…

Why is everyone obsessed about his height?!?! Allow me to reffer everyone with questions to Lord Of the Rings. Yes I said it LORD OF THE RINGS!!! If you paid any attention to the movie, you will have noticed the shared screenshots and considerable hieght difference between Gandolf The Grey (Ian McKellan) and Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood). Do you think Mr. McKellan and Mr. Wood are that tall and that short? No. It's why they hire this specialist called DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY. They can make height magic happen with just the camera and actor position and if you lucky enough to have the delux edition of LOTR the Director of Photography even has his own interview explaining how his crew did it. SAY CHEESE EVERYONE!!!

I'm actually really disappointed that Taylor is still playing Jacob. Yeah, he beefed up and has put a lot of dedication to the character, but he still looks 12!! He's still short too!! I'm hoping some major special effects come into play. Taylor being buffed up makes him look like he has a midget's proportions. I'm just very unhappy about the decision. I really hope Summit pulls this off.

I think he is a very good looking kid, and I've got to hand it to him....he really has worked hard and it shows! I'm still upset that they did not find an older/taller looking guy to play Jacob. But, you know what? I'm going to give Taylor the benefit of the doubt...he's got A LOT of charm and charisma...he may just pull this off !!!

Your fans are worried about Taylor's Carrier not in Jacob's life.
    It was the worse decision.

If you remember, he was only supposed to be 15 in the first book, and as there are only a few years time over the four books, then in Breaking Dawn, he'll only be 17 or 18

  • but i doubt they will. but who knows right...he has grown a bit taller. he's now taller than kristen when before they were almost neck and neck. i'd rather see him in his natural height, frankly. besides, who cares about height as long as he understands Jacob, plays it right, and acts well.
  • twilightfan
my sentiments exactly...if they can make 4 midgets for LOTR, they can't add a foot to Taylor to make him taller??? it's ridiculous...
besides, Taylor Lautner IS Jacob Black...we all know him, and have grown fond of him in the first film. I personally don't think I would enjoy New Moon without the original cast. It just wouldn't be the same...and he's actually working his ass off to bring the integrity of Jacob Black to the screen as it is written in the novel. You have to give him credit for THAT!!

  • he doesnt look like 12, he looks his age. and with the new wig, he actually looks older which is how Jacob is supposed to be right? 17 but looks like in his 20s. im proud he is that dedicated and passionate about jacob and that he's managed to gain muscle for the role.
