New Moon Official Logo

MTV Movie Blog has just posted their exclusive first look at the logo for New Moon, and it’s a high res version of what we saw earlier on EW in motion.

MTV News has the scoop on the official name and logo for Chris Weitz’s soon-to-film sequel to “Twilight.” Dubbed “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon,” the film’s official title art stays true to the look of the first movie while swapping in an orange tint, a subtle crescent moon, and the release date of 11.20.09.

Although the look of the new logo will undoubtedly get Twilighter tongues wagging, it’s the five-word official title that is the most prominent variation from Stephenie Meyer’s simple “New Moon.”

With roman numerals now considered taboo in Hollywood, and sequel names like “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” and “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” in vogue, it makes sense that Weitz and crew would label the future films as “The Twilight Saga.” At the risk of reading too much into five words, it also seems to imply that “New Moon” will boast a more epic feel than the first movie.

As for the logo itself, Weitz has chosen to stay with the lowercase lettering, personable font and light-streaks-poking-through look of last year’s hit film. In switching from blue to orange, the movie’s upcoming posters will be instantly distinguishable from those of the original “Twilight” – which should make them look a whole lot cooler when teenage girls all over the world add them to their walls. The presence of orange also begs a new question: Now that blue and orange are taken, which colors should be used for “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn”?

So what do you guys think? Love the new look? Hate it? Sound off in the comments!

Oscar Director Sexism We’ve previously questioned whether New Moon could be directed by a guy–and Forbes has a new article that questions wether there is an undercurrent of sexism still prevalent in Hollywood, where female directors are few and far between–and the coveted Best Director Oscar is still out of reach. One of the main examples cited is Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, who was dumped for Chris Weitz in New Moon:

Take director Catherine Hardwicke. Last year, she told the Los Angeles Times in the same article that she would love to direct a “superhero” movie.

“Did anyone call me with one?” she asks. “No. I got radio silence.”

Even after the financial success of Twilight, the studios “are still not throwing money at me,” she says.

“People have literally said to my face that I can’t do action,” says Hardwicke, who has worked as a stunt coordinator as well as directed the action-packed Lords of Dogtown and put her signature action stamp on Twilight. “That does make me mad. There’s a lot of stuff they would never say if I were a guy.”

“I’ve been on a set where actors have meltdowns, there’s screaming people, the director is yelling, cussing, there’s physical abuse, emotional abuse,” says Hardwicke, who worked as the production designer on the notoriously contentious set of David O. Russell’s Three Kings. “And that is all OK. But if I turn my head to the side, privately, and one tear comes out, I get nailed for it.”

The whole article is fantastic and raises some great questions–defintely worth the read.

Brandon Michael Vayda New Moon Jared OK Magazine has an article that touts “7 Secrets of the Twilight Sequel”. Thing is, loyal readers of this site probably already know most of the “secrets”. Some of these are a bit gossipy–it is OK Magazine after all–but, if you’re just joining us, it’s a great place to start on your New Moon education:

#1: No Narnia in New Moon: Despite speculation that British actor Ben Barnes, last seen as Prince Caspian in the Narnia movies, would play Aro, the sinister leader of the vampire world, his L.A.-based agent, Nick Reed, sets the record straight: “Although Ben has enjoyed much of the speculation, we haven’t had any calls. There’s no truth to it.”

#2: Bella’s Boy On Set: Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella Swan, will crush the rumors of romance with Robert Pattinson by keeping four-year-love Michael Angarano close. “Her boyfriend will come to visit her on set,” an insider tells OK!.

#3: The Best is Still Unwritten: With filming just weeks away, the cast (with many roles still undecided) haven’t seen their lines! “I am waiting to get my hands on the script. I am looking forward to getting to work!” Justin Chon, who played Bella’s onetime suitor in Twilight, Eric Yorkie, tells OK!.

#4: 90210 Stars Sign Up: AnnaLynne McCord will sink her teeth into the role of Heidi. Gal pal to Emmett Cullen, aka Kellan Lutz, she says, “I’m so obsessed with vampires!” 90210 actor Brandon Michael Vayda will play Jared the werewolf.

Woah!–hold it right there–this is the first we’ve heard of Brandon Michael Vayda playing a part in New Moon…..could there be two 90210ers in New Moon?

five-reasons-twilight-new-moon.jpg The Deadbolt” has a fantastic article about five reasons why New Moon could be better than Twilight. I think most are pretty solid–and reading this definitely gets the gears in my head spinning about just how cool New Moon is going to be–

  1. New characters, new conflict: In New Moon, Bella and Edward’s relationship has already been established. But like any relationship, the introduction of secondary conflict can play an important role on the dynamics of love. Without giving too much away, beyond Edward and Bella, the impact Jacob has on the story creates simultaneous conflict. Loyalties will be put to the test while the choices of right and wrong are pitted against those of want and need. Much like a second book in a trilogy, New Moon will cut to the chase in a way fans can already identify with via new character dynamics while delving deeper into the complexities of love.
  2. Starlet in Shadows: Dakota Fanning?: With casting for New Moon in full swing, there’s been much buzz surrounding the possible addition of a highly recognizable name in Hollywood for the role of Jane. Dakota Fanning, former child star turned critically acclaimed young movie star, is only 15 and yet Fanning has more experience in the industry than her possible New Moon co-stars combined.
  3. Digging deeper in the name of love: The success of New Moon over Twilight lies in the ability of actors to inhabit their characters on a deeper level. What Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson bring to Bella and Edward for New Moon will require more than just reading lines from a page. Twilight showed us the magic of an inevitable love story and New Moon will continue the saga in a richer manner. It’s the love story that will force Pattinson and Stewart to go deeper inside themselves as actors than they did in Twilight. Usually when people reach deep and go beyond their comfort zone, good things happen. In this case, it will all be in the name of love. The success of New Moon over Twilight lies in the ability of actors to inhabit their characters on a deeper level. 4. Setting the new mood: Although Twilight was filmed in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, mainly in Washington St. and Oregon, heading north to Vancouver, British Columbia can only benefit in a couple of ways. First, Vancouver is perfect for the tone and atmosphere of New Moon since it rains so much Robert Pattinson will feel at home among “Vampouverites.” Although Washington, Oregon, and Vancouver all fit the franchise well, the dreary scenery in Twilight was able to set the tone of the novel, bringing to life the plight of the characters while creating a setting that befitted Edward and Bella’s relationship both internally and externally. Vancouver will bring that in broody spades.
  5. The Quileute Tribe and the Legend: The Quileute legend speaks of its people being descended from werewolves, with the lore based on real Quileute legends except for the introduced conflict with the vampires (or “cold ones” as Jacob describes them). With the arrival of the Cullens, legend and lore allow fans to journey deeper into the mythology and intricacies of New Moon’s opposing forces. In other words, with such a profound back-story between werewolves and vampires, New Moon will explore more while connecting on a deeper level to Bella.

What do you guys think of these reasons? Can you think of any other ways New Moon is destined to be greater than Twilight? Check out the full article over at The Deadbolt!

200902191000.jpg Shocker! Given all the big names vying for a spot in the New Moon limelight, My Chemical Romance has admitted that they don’t think there songs would fit! Now that’s a pleasant change of pace!–

So, after knocking it out of the park with “Desolation Row,” [from Watchmen] are My Chem looking at a second career (after, you know, being in a rock band) scoring films? Given their former, rather vampirish past, they seem naturals for “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.”

“I don’t think so,” Way said. “We’re very choosy. … There were a few films that we didn’t do the song for because it didn’t fit. I guess a lot of people would say that a vampire movie would fit, but I would disagree with that these days. Even since Black Parade, I would kind of disagree with that. I don’t know if we’d be interested in that.”
