Filming in Volterra, Italy in May Confirmed!

new-moon-shooting-in-volterra.jpg This just in! Variety reports that New Moon will be shooting Volterra, Italy–

Eagle Pictures, which released “Twilight” on Italo screens, announced on Tuesday it has re-upped with Summit Ent. for the sequel, specifying that “New Moon” will shoot in the ancient Tuscan city of Volterra in May for two weeks.

In Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling “New Moon” tome, Volterra is the town where the powerful Volturi vampire coven reside. Dakota Fanning is reportedly in talks to play a teen Volturi vamp, while “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are on board.

For a while it seemed that the Italy shoot may have been only in Rome. Be sure to check out our picture tour of Volterra so you can see why this is such awesome news!

    now, according to E! , 90210-er AnnaLynne McCord is set to play Heidi, a minor character in the book who is a "fisher" -- one who brings humans to the Volturi vampires to eat.

    This is so great Volterra is so beautiful!! It wouldn't be New Moon if they didn't film there. It's so lovely and breathtaking. My mom and I are supposed to be going out of the country and looks like Volterra is our destination. Of course that means it's time I started learning Italian or we won't know how to get to any of the sites to see in Volterra. I'm sooooo excited!!!!

    omg have you seen the freaking comments under the stephen king thing wow they are crazy. but i think its great that its being filmed there but i dont really think it makes much of differnce where iys filmed as long as it is filmed!!!

    Sweet I totally can't wait for the movie I wasn't a big fan of new moon compaired to the others but I did enjoy reading it I am not a Jacob fan at all(sorry for all of you out there but its true hes a dink) and Volterra is awsome I wish I could go back to Italy to watch them film but I guess being stuck here in Vancouver is better than nothing lol.This is the best year for new movies I can't wait first Friday the 13th then theres Transformers 2 and Xmen4 and also my totally awsomne fave book saga turned into movie New Moon I love 2009,now if only I had a girlfriend to take with me hahahaha.

It doesn't exist in Piazza dei Priori, I don't think Italians will let them built a fake one. I mean, I'm Italian and I would not let them do it. Why did Stephenie Meyer place that terrible fontain in an acient and beautiful square? Oh, you know what? We haven't that kind of celebrating day, nor even vimpires or vampire slayers as saints, just a dragon slayer LoL .

    They tend to omit alot of stuff from books when they do movie scripts. Its just as easy to make a magically disappering fountain. I am not Italian my friend, but I certainly would not want anything built on a historic or cultural landmark built by our ancestors, either.

    Bummer!!! I was SO in Tuscany last summer during this time!!! That is AMAZING that they are sticking to the story and actually filming in such a gorgeous and authentic location!
