We found an interesting tidbit on the blog of 18-year old Koa Orquia, who has auditioned for a role in the New Moon wolf pack. Apparently, Solomon Trimble and Krys Embry coming back to New Moon is very much up in the air if this post Orquia made a few days ago is any indication–
Solomon Trimble (Sam Uley) is seriously a cool kid.
After conversing with him for an hour or so, I’ve learned a lot about him.
All the rumors you’ve been hearing about Solomon Trimble not being casted as Sam because of his religious beliefs, are NOT true. Yes I believed those rumors too, but it was clarified in our conversation today that he would “Shave his eyebrows off” for the role again. And just so everyone knows, The rumor about him not wanting to cut his hair is false. He actually cut his hair recently.
So right now, he doesn’t know if the part of Sam is still his. He and Krys (Embry) have a meeting with Director Chris Weitz regarding there [sic] future roles.
Whatever happens, Orquia says he’ll find out by February 15th if he gets a part.
UPDATE: Check out some more info about Koa’s try for the part and the meeting after the cut!
Orquia posted this email on January 10th from a New Moon casting director, after asking if he could audition for the role of Seth Clearwater:
Hi Koa – I totally understand where you are coming from. At present, we do not have instructions to cast “Seth” for NEW MOON – but that does not mean that the role will not appear – just that he does not appear in the current draft of the script. These scripts evolve throughout pre-production…characters get added – characters disappear…. My advice to you would be to audition for one of the available characters in the “wolf pack” and at the end of your audition do a separate, brief interview on the tape, explaining to the filmmakers how the role of “Seth” has resonated with you and let them know that this is the role you are interested in… Now is the best time to really get “in the mix”… as, if you wait – the filmmakers may see someone else that they like and get attached to the idea of that actor for “Seth”… regardless of whether the character appears in NEW MOON or a future film. Does that seem reasonable? Let me know if you are still interested and I will send you the audition material when it’s available.
UPDATE: Koa has this to add when I asked him about his experience auditioning for the role–
The process of auditioning was quite hard. Ive had many up and down moments where i felt like it was going to be impossible. My story is a totally underdog kind of story. Ive said earlier that I knew nothing of twilight before the movie came out, and i didnt really care about it until i stumbled on the part of Seth one day. I thought he reminded me a lot about about myself, in the physical appearance as well as his personality. So i visualized myself in Seth’s shoes, doing and saying everything he did. From there, I decided that, first, i think i should get an agent. And during that time, i went on the Twilight Forum on Myspace and kind of threw myself out there. I’d say about 99% of the feedback i had been getting from the users were very positive, and just like in life, people had a difference of opinions, which is fine. The agency i was trying to get into offered me a reading but later denied me because i didnt have any professional kind of experience
in acting, and from there i felt like it was going to be impossible. Luckily, the fans helped me stay really positive and I just didnt give up. Finally, my friend Kayla, gave me the information to Rene Haynes (thanks so much Kayla!) and i just asked to audition. She said yeah and the rest has been history.!
Regardless if i get the role or not, I’ve met amazing people along the way, but i hope i just don’t let them down.
You can go to my myspace where i put more pictures to be viewed by everyone. Thanks so much.
Also–Koa has just updated me about the meeting mentioned above, apparently the meeting with Solomon and Krys didn’t happen–
Currently they havent even been contacted for the role yet. So there is no meeting.
