This new interview with Solomon Trimble, aka Sam in Twilight, is pretty interesting. Trimble doesn’t know if he’ll be back for New Moon yet. You can read a bit more of his poetry as well. We were pretty impressed about how he prepared for Twilight though–

MediaBlvd> Even though you had a small role in Twilight, did you do any research into Sam’s back-story?

Solomon> I did hard-core research. I already had connections to the Northwest customs, through my brother Marcus, who is Lummi. The biggest connection is with my aunt, Liz Sanchez, who teaches on the Quileute reservation. She connected me with a few fluent native speakers. I worked with wardrobe a lot, mostly trying to capture the authenticity of current native clothing. I had a whole lot of conversations with wardrobe about what the current-day Quileute on the reservation wore. We talked about how they dressed. One Quileute kid said “We’re somewhere between skater and gangster.”

But we found this section to be the real gem–

MediaBlvd> You didn’t have any scenes with Robert Pattinson, but did you get to meet him at all?

Solomon> I didn’t have any scenes with Rob, but I saw some pre-production clips and knew that he was crazy talented. I met Rob twice, but every time we met, he had to pee. I saw him at lunch, one day, on set, and I extended my hand and said, “I’m Solomon. I’m playing Sam,” and he replied, “Sorry, I’ve got to piss.” Some crew member asked me “Did he just snub you?,” and I said, “No, the man has to pee.” The next time I got a chance to talk to him was after the premiere. I was hanging out with Catherine and her whole crew, up on the rooftop of some bar in L.A., and I saw Rob and he was like, “Damn, every time we meet, I’ve got to piss,” and he walked by me. Later that night, we traded phone numbers and I sent him a text saying, “This is Solomon/Sam.” Then, I memorized the number and took it out of my phone because I have a habit of losing my phone when I jog.

Confused about the DVD and Blu-ray releases of Twilight? We’ve got your sorted–check out this writeup from The HD Room:

There’s been a lot of confusion about the Twilight Blu-ray release. Or is that releases? I’m here to set the record straight.

As previous reported here at TheHDRoom, Twilight will be released in a special edition Blu-ray Disc package on March 21, day-and-date with the DVD debut. The catch? It will be exclusive to Best Buy and Target (online and retail locations).

Other retailers such as Walmart, Blockbuster and Amazon.com will have to wait until May 5 until they can release Twilight. Rental copies through Blockbuster, Netflix and other companies will be available on March 21.

Though Amazon.com was shut out from the March exclusive deal Summit Entertainment entered with Target and Best Buy, they did manage to secure a different exclusive offer. Amazon has begun taking pre-orders on a Twilight Ultimate Collector’s Set with a hefty price tag of $79.99.

But what about that New Moon Teaser? Well, if you check out the list of special Blu-Ray features from the article, you’ll notice “BD Live with “New Moon” teaser” is listed.

BD-Live is a new service only on Blu-ray players that allows you to connect to a special server through your player’s internet connection and access stuff like interactive games or download exclusive content directly to your Blu-ray player. This means that the New Moon teaser may not be accessible when you first buy the Twilight Blu-ray, but will be downloadable when it’s ready. Or, it could be ready on Day 1. We’ll see by March 21st!…..or May 5th.

Melissa Rosenberg, who penned the script for Twilight and New Moon, has shared a few new details, and confirmed others in an interview from Saturday at the Directors Guild of America Awards. The juiciest bits?–

“But at the moment, the part of Leah doesn’t happen until the third movie.”

Rosenberg also offered a few other insider tidbits about the progress of New Moon. “Well, you know Taylor Lautner will be back as Jacob Black. I can tell you the original cast will all be coming back. They’re on set right now, in Vancouver! They’re all up there prepping the movie to start shooting very soon.”

She also gushes about new director Chris Weitz, saying–

“Chris Weitz directed The Golden Compass, which was a beautiful-looking film,” Rosenberg said. “And I think it’s wonderful we have someone who has worked with CGI animals … that will be a big part of New Moon. I’m delighted we have someone who’s so expert at that.”

I don’t even know what to say about this–so I’m just going to press Command-V and hope for the best:

“It could mean, in short, that New Moon will be a little bit bloodier than anticipated. Or certainly the Twlight film after that. Is there any filmmaking/distribution outfit with a more pronounced reputation for being deeply in love with arterial gushings? That’s Lionsgate in a nutshell.”

So declares Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere, in response to Sharon Waxman’s report (for which “executives at Lionsgate and Summit declined to comment”) that Lionsgate (home of the Saw, Hostel and Tyler Perry franchises) may be buying Summit Entertainment, including the company’s library and slate, which includes teenage necrophilia phenom franchise Twilight.

Of course, the author does note that Lionsgate seems eager to change its image–and perhaps the purchase of Summit is a step in this direction:

But of course, Wells’ “nutshell” definition of Lionsgate is out of date. It’s an open secret that Lionsgate is so desperate to distance itself from its bloody past that the distributor has spent the past year engineering the failure of its remaining genre stock — dumping Midnight Meat Train in rural dollar theaters; taking the ultra-cinematic The Burrowers off its theatrical release schedule entirely; killing Cabin Fever as a theatrical franchise by releasing its Ti West-directed sequel straight to DVD. If anything, in Lionsgate’s hands, the Twilight sequels are likely to go even more tame.

The open casting called for Native American/Aboriginal actors that was posted on Craigslist without the name of the movie–but which was obviously for New Moon–is now closed. Overwhelming response to the call has resulted in–

CASTING IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS. THEY HAVE RECEIVED MORE RESPONSES THAN THEY’LL EVER HAVE TIME TO SORT THROUGH.

Casting Director René Haynes recently wrote to tell me the following:

   Please tell the fans on our behalf how grateful we are for their enthusiasm and dedication to the project – and explain that (as with all film auditions with overwhelming responses), they will only be contacted if there is further interest.
