Summit and Lionsgate “Unlikely to Merge”

Turns out that despite the rumors, EW says the likelihood of Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate merging are slim–

A source tells EW that those discussions actually occurred before Summit took the $37 million Twilight and turned it into a $340 million worldwide franchise. Now that they’ve got a real hit on their hands, Summit is going it alone for the time being, with the Dakota Fanning-starrer Push releasing on Friday, and New Moon, the studio’s Twilight sequel, scheduled for a Nov. 20 bow.
However, with the economic conditions being as they are, everyone in Hollywood is talking about ways to enhance their business strategically while simultaneously reducing overhead, so it’s certainly not out of the question that we’ll see some kind of changes taking place at various studios in coming months. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all shakes out.

thats cool! whatever it is they will do, i just hope it wont affect the shooting of the most anticipated movie in the world- NEWMOON... and hope the result will be better

It would have been cool for them to join "forces," so to say, but I'm sure the movie will turn out just as great, if not better. I honestly think it's going to break some box office records on opening night because I thinks there's a whole lot of people anticipating this movie. I'm definitely going to be in line on the opening day!!!

that would have beeen cool if they merged because lionsgate has a little more money then summit but because summits movies have become such a huge success i think they will have a lot of money as welll but i think the movies in the twilight saga will be great because twilight was great i have nothing but faith that the movies will be great whoever is in charge of them

For those of you who want to keep the film as indie as possible, a no go on the merger is a good thing. Merger = more money which = bigger names and more star power

I think that, whoever is in charge, the movie will be great ;). It would have been nice if Lionsgate would be in charge, because a bigger company means more money and that I think they could really use that xD. But kristenISbella has a point. More money means bigger names too. And the thing I like about Twilight is the fact that they've given not very well actors a great opportunity. But whatever the outcome will be, I'm sure New Moon is going to be awesome :D!

well they sure do have some big cash in their hands so they BETTER make an awesome movie out of this but i have faith in them i mean twilight was a low budget movie and it turned out pretty good. i just hope they stay true to the book and it will be great!
