10 Things New Moon Needs to Get Right

by Will on March 12, 2009 · Comments

in Commentary, Poster

New Moon Poster Buddy TV has a pretty cool list of things that New Moon needs to get right–I’d say most are pretty spot-on. Here’s a small sampling:

10. Victoria’s plan must loom ominously.

Obviously we shouldn’t know exactly what she’s planning or what she’s up to, but we should know that she is actively pursuing a way to get to Bella.

7. Be careful with Jacob’s heart.

At times, Bella’s interactions with Jacob can seem cruel. The girl is already really depressed and if the viewers are to sympathize with her, they can’t see her as insensitive when it comes to Jacob.

6. Edward and Bella in love.

Although New Moon is told from Bella’s point of view, it’s pretty obvious that we’ll need to see a lot more Edward Cullen than the amount of time he is in the book.

2. The Volturi are straight from a horror film.

The scene with the Volturi needs to be terrifying. There’s a whole lot of talking and scheming but the truth is that the Volturi are extremely dangerous and Bella, Alice, and Edward come very close to being killed.

i have to disagree with the thing that the outtake of rosalie calling edward and telling him about "bella's death" should be part of the new moon movie.. i have to admit, when i finished reading that outtake, i said to my self that it should be shown, but then i realized that where will be that "twist" in the story?.. those who haven't read the new moon yet should see how the trick goes, when jacob and bella thought that it was just carlisle who called and how jacob's words "he's at the funeral" would change the course of the story, not knowing the impact it brought to edward..

anyway, this is just my opinion..though i agree with most of what you've said.. me, too cant wait for the new moon to be out in theaters..

i totally agree with most of u..they did not do a good job at all of portraying the love bella and edward had for each other in twilight which throws off the whole basis point for new moon, the entire point of NM is that edward left and that bella became weak and fell to peices and jacob was there to pick up the pieces, they will have a hard time fitting all that raw passion bella and edward have for each other into the first 15 to 20 minutes of NM to have bellas depression make sence..
  • I just re read New Moon last night, and for one, it is better second time around...but When Bella is runny through Volterra running towards Edward, that definately needs to be in slow motion. And the fountain she has to run through needs to be there to show jus how desperate she is in that moment. THE KISS HAS TO be in the movie, the kiss when she wakes up in her bed with Edward after being in Italy.
TEXT:"His mouth was on mine then, and I couldn’t fight him. Not because he was so many thousand times stronger than me, but because my will crumbled into dust the second our lips met."

And then I believe it was as soon as she ran into Edward under the clock tower she said: I knew we were both in mortal danger. Still, in that instant, I felt well. Whole. I could feel my heart racing in my chest, the blood pulsing hot and fast through my veins again. My lungs filled deep with the sweet scent that came off his skin. It was like there had never been any hole in my chest. I was perfect—not healed, but as if there had never been a wound in the first place.
--That needs to be in the movie. like have Bella look like a zombie through the entire movie after Edward leaves and then have her look like he never left in the first place when she is in his arms again.

Also one more thing and I'm done, after the Voltri let them leave, when Bella freaks out and Edward is trying to calm her down..definately needs to be there.

I'm all about emotion :) gotta have the parts that made me cry or wanna cry be in da movie.

You stated it so perfectly here....Everything was spot on!

I agree with all- my concern is that while I loved the first movie- it didn't even get close to showing how completely and irreversibly connected they are. They will need to touch on this somehow in NM in order for people to get how broken Bella is. I can't wait for NM but I must say that it was painful to read- and I am being generous using that word.
  • Leanneduh
    New Moon will be perfect...
    obviously...
i dont doubt the capabilities of the twilight saga cast and production team...
    perfect...it will be! :)
  • Melanie
don't forget the part at the very end of the book when Bella is having a vote on her mortality!! and Edward becomes furious when the vote is she should be a vampire!! (New Moon, yes?)

Totally agree with you i d like surely see Edward's emotions when Rosalie tells him for Bella's death.About jacob he kinda angered me when Bella went to see him and he was very harsh and rude to her well ofc cause Sam told him he couldnt tell her he was a wolf now.But it just made me too sad see him doing this. But i think the part that freaked me out completely in the book i was feeling so intense reading it was while bella was running in the square when clock start to sound screaming Edward no!!I think i screamed as well couple of times Edward no:)
  • Jacob made me angry at that part too but he was forbidden to tell Bella the truth. So I understood his reasoning just as I understood Bella walking away from him. It's just I know how it feels to be used. I hate to say the word used but that's how I saw things at times. I felt incredible sympathy for Jacob as I did for Bella. I felt intense as well when Bella was running in the square. My roommate kept wondering why I was screaming at a book lol! But that scene HAS to be perfect! I want to be on the edge of my seat again. I want to slap the armchair because I am in suspense.
  • mrs. edward cullen
true..when i was reading that part where bella was running in the square, i can hardly breathe..i feel like i was really bella, running for my love's life/"existence"..yes, i agree with you, that scene has to be PERFECT!..and of course, the part where edward proposed to bella..that was so cute.,i read that scene for like more than 5 times already..
  • Illyriend
When i read in new Moon Edward leave's Bella i was almost crying. My best friend called me and she was cursing all crazy yelling why he left her and all.I really hope they show us bit more Edward than in the book.would love to see kinda while bella is depressed how he is as well same time showing how they both hurt apart and not just as flash back in the end as in the book.but thats just me.But well GO GO Team Edward!!:DDD

I want the movie to be as close to the book as they can get it...but I know they are going to have Rob in it more than the book shows Edward. He is going to make them money. I have to admit, (and I know I am not alone) Edward is the reason I keep reading the books over and over. Edward is the reason I saw the movie over and over. Edward is the reason I can't wait for the DVD to come out. I know he isn't real, and I am not in love with him, but I do LOVE his character. I had to take Stephanie's advice, she said you need to read NM more than once because the first time you are just speed reading to make sure Edward comes back...I totally did that.
  • twilightlover
they seemed to have gottan most right . as long as they can the part where Edward leaves her then ill be find.and the part where there in Italy then everything should be just fine
  • LovinEdwardCullen
I agree with you guys. I read all night...I couldn't put the book down...I needed Edward to come back. I feel weird saying that, but I did. I think there are definitely ways to have Edward more involved in the movie without messing up the book's storyline. OME, I am going to have to go to this movie alone, I am going to totally cry and make an idiot of myself!
  • Rosalie_Lillian_Hale
I think that Edward(rob) should only be in Bellas dreams and not have it be on what he is doing like tracking victoria we can hear about it but not see it new moon is all about Bella and Jacob and yes i amd a fan but i want it to be like the book not like a different movie!!
  • Rosalie_Lillian_Hale
OME I love no.4 it is so true you have to put it in because it is like the best and i think that you should put the vote and how stongly do u apoz to G.T.A!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree.... I want Edward in the movie a lil' more though, he just needs to be. I couldn't stand the part when he left her....I bawled like a baby and do every time I read it..... Then the drama when her and Alice go to Volturri to stop Edward....the drama needs to be there and then again when Bella meets up with Edward. <<<<Love that part...

NM was so hard for me to get through. If anyone has ever been dumped, even if not like that, but especially like that, then this book is going to hit home - in a real hard way. Like a wrecking ball. I guess for that reason, I am so thoroughly Team Edward, I just needed him to come back. It was physical, psychological, emotional. Edward WAS the need. Jacob was almost an irritant. I was so glad the phone rang, in Bella's kitchen when Jacob was going to kiss her! Even in his absense, without intending to, Edward was staking his claim. Bella belongs to Edward, she belongs to him. All I know is, if Bella had not jumped off that cliff - I was going to throw her off! :0) And yes! When Alice came back, she was just another life-line. Another connection to Edward. Like the means to an end. Then when Bella finally sees him - ahhhhh - it was heaven. Okay, so I'm just a teensy bit carried away here. But it's truly how I feel. And I am not a teeny bopper, as is evident from my lack of "text" language, I am a happily married mother of three supremely awesome kids - but I love Edward too! I'm really loven' these Twilight fans - what a great bunch of people!

The director should definately keep NM as close to the book as possible. I did like the suggestions, all of them. I know that Edward was not physically present in much of the book, but honestly, the ONLY way I could get through that book, was because he would "speak" in Bella's (my) head. Those times allowed me to breathe. So that needs to be a part of the movie. We need to have those moments where we can gasp and breathe in that fresh air that is Edward's voice. So, I know he wasn't in this book much, but he's going to have to be in the movie a little more, just for that purpose. I want emotion in his face and voice when he's yelling at Bella, when he's pleading with her, when he's cautioning her, I want it ALL!
  • Lovin_the_Cullens_n_Bella
I definitely agree with you.... I feel the same way.... that's honestly the only reason I could get through the book without jumping right to the end....they have to have that in there too and I think they need to stick to the book as much as possible.
  • LovinEdwardCullen

Yeah I can totoally relate to Bella's story. Everyone's fallen in love with a vampire then he left and u became best friends with a warewolf then he comes back and there's a big war and you have a little half vampire half human baby....Hasn't everyone?
  • yeah!! they got it right. just keep it close to the book!
    there! problem solved.
  • Madalyn
I think that when people watch New Moon they should feel the loss, the emptiness, and the pain that Bella will go through when Edward leaves. The scene when Edward leaves should be very emotional (i know... just the thought of him leaving makes that lump in your throat swell up). I also think that before he leaves (and before Bella's b-day party) we need to see how happy Edward and Bella are together. New Moon should also have more kissing than Twilight because things aren't that new anymore. They've been together for a while now. They need to be building that part of Edward and Bella's relationship because it becomes more of an issue in Eclipse. And I think we all want to see those kissing moments from Eclipse in the movie. Edward and Bella's reunion in Voltera (like while their headed to see the Volturi and after they leave) should be in New Moon. And last but not least, I think that the moment when Edward promises to never leave Bella again should definately be in New Moon. And when Edward tells Bella that he will change her himself if she will marry him first.

ok so all 10 r pretty hed on EXEPT i think that rob really should not appear even in like flashbacks thruought the movie. if that happens then the viewrs wont get the feeling of what was really going on when edward left her. i mean i LOVE rob but it really needs to stay true to the book because if not then no1 will really get the full experience of what bella went through and thats really important for the rest of the series.

I agree. What I am worried about too is people's reaction to Bella's depression, particularly people who have not read the books. It is my opinion that the relationship between Bella and Edward was not developed enough in the first movie, so when Edward leaves her, to some viewers her depression might not make much sense.
(I am not saying it doesn't make sense, just that people who are not familiar with the story will think that. Some people's reaction to the hospital scene, when Bella was having a panic attack, was to laugh. So...yeah.)
But I am keeping my fingers crossed, and I am trying to tell myself Chris Weitz can do amazing things with this movie, since nothing tells me he can't
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
RIght? I feel that same way... I truly hope they make the depression understandable, cause like you said, they didn't do a great job of portraying E's and B's relationship... in the book it was just... amazing!
But I totally get what you're saying 'cause I noticed too that ppl didn't quite understand (those that didn't/havent read the books) those moments... all we can do is cross our fingers and hope that Chris can do what we most desire w/ NM =]
  • EddysGal

The acting HAS to be nailed just right in the more intense scenes and I agree that the Volturi must look eerie and also look like the "non veg" vampires that they are. I want to feel the same intense emotions while watching the movie that I felt while reading the book. Painful, raw, and real.

I agree that Edward can be shown in places throughout the movie, flashbacks, while Bella thinks she hears his voice, maybe show his despair while they are apart...that will all add up to an amazing movie!
  • yeah!! they got it right. just keep it close to the book!

..i think i want to see the effect that edward´s voice (inside bella´s head) has.. I need to see it!!,..
when i was reading the book.. my heart always stopped there..in that whisper.. specially the "be happy" one. cause idk.. he was almost telling her ..go on..do it.!. be jacob´s gf! i dont care as long as u are happy.. and that is for me..one of the most emotional parts of the book. i want to feel it on screen.

Oh God, you're NOT the only one!!
I cry and cry and cry everytime I read it ('cause I go back and read them over) and ppl don't understand why, but WE just know, u know? lol!

The first time I read it, I had to call my sis in law and another friend to tell them how heartbroken I was... lol true story =]
  • tweeter76 IAMSWITZERLAND-1/09
I agree completely. There's just something about having a little bit of life experience that makes the emotional journey of the characters a bit more raw and unnerving!
  • BTW I love the fan made poster, its beautiful!
  • Thanks, I made it! :D
  • Wow such a talent, you should be very proud, and you should forward that on to the New Moon people they may use it :)

  • i just hope the movie is really good scartch that i hope its GREAT i am very excited for it to come out
  • lautnerlover10134
i dont agree with #6 . Edward should be in the book as much as he is intended to be. We alr eady know how much they are in love so follow the book!!! i am sick of people saying that there needs to be more Edward. Edward comes back dont worry!
  • Chris10
I too would like them to stick with the book as far as Edward goes but I can't say that I would be opposed to some flash back scenes when she's dealing with his absence. There's an entire summer skipped over between Twilight and New Moon that they could flash back to.
  • TEAM EDWARD!!!
sorry i got a little over excited
First of all bella better cry i want tears and
second i defnitly the scene when alice comes back and the whole italy stuff and the end when bella thinks shes dreaming.....
actually how about they just make it exactly how it is from cover to cover so yeah thats the only way it will be perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • kristen_cullen
i agree. in twilight it didn't really look like alice and bella were friends so i think they need to work on that. and the PROPOSAL! omg. soooo cute. that's what makes the story the best one. DON'T SCREW IT UP. :)
  • deedee81
Me to and I think that Stephenie grasped that, I'm sure as she would probably feel the same if it herself with her own children. I couldn't bear to be apart from my 2 two children and as much as I can appreciate that tweens/teens love these books I think the readers with children would understand it on a different level
  • iLoveEC
Not sure i agree with number 1 : "Robert Pattinson". Don't get me wrong, i looove him but he can't be seen too much coz we reall have to feel how Bella was abondonned, feel his absence.

And I love number 4 : "the proposal". That HAS to be in the movie and they really have to get it right coz the whole "marry me" scene where she thinks he's joking at first and he's like "ouch".. I dunno, just loved it ! :) So i hooope kristen and robert will get it right coz it's intense as well.
  • lovevampolves
yup spot-on and i would like to see more of the cullen history
  • Wow 100% agree, I'm looking fro real emotion in New Moon and I think we should see the desperation that Bella goes through and how Jacob helps her, and I agree that the volturri should be terrifying!
  • Chris10
Exactly. When Edward leaves Bella it's just so raw. I had to put the book down for a second when I read that part, so I hope the movie gets all the emotion right on.

    I also like that poster!
  • The first time that I read New Moon and when Edward left Bella I sobbed my heart out, I felt like the first time I got my heart broken, I cried and cried and cried and I had to put the book away, but it felt so raw that I had to skip to the end when Alice came back, read it from there and then when I finished I had to go back to the start, didnt help cos I still cry every time I read it LOL

I definitely appreciated New Moon AND Jacob Black so much more the second read. Yes Bella and Edward belong together but I just love the marvel that is Jacob Black. I love these books because they make you FEEL.

Ummm . . . it sucked the first time I read it. I thought I was dying inside!!

The second time I read Twilight, I carried New Moon around with me for a week before I could bring myself to open it. it still hurts . . . even though you know everything will be "OK" by the end of the saga (for everyone . . . Jacob included). I was telling "C" the other night that Stephenie opened up this series of books to more than teens when she wrote New Moon and the other books. There is soooo much more involved than a "teen love story" in New Moon and beyond!
  • Definitely, I think that we can relate more to the books is because we have experience off everything that has happened in them. I felf like I had my heart ripped out when I read new moon as I wasnt expecting him to leave so I felt every emotion possible, to sum it up I was a complete mess LMAO
  • tweeter76 IAMSWITZERLAND-1/09
I know. But I also found myself crying during Breaking Dawn. Particularly when Bella discusses preparing for Renesmee and Jacob to go if they have to. It tore my heart out. I can't imagine having to prepare myself to let my children go . . . even if it was for their safety. It made me so sad!

..i think i want to see the effect that edward´s voice (inside bella´s head) has..
