There’s a great new interview with Rene Haynes, who is the casting director picked to handle casting the wolf pack. As we all know, the life of every one of the actors has changed overnight–
Haynes handled the Native American casting for the Twilight sequel. Her final wolf pack choices include Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Bronson Pelletier, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman.
“They are all good kids,” says Rene. “They have good heads on their shoulders. I think they’ll navigate these waters the best they can.”
“I’ve told them, make wise choices from here on out. This is what you’ve been working for. Don’t mess it up.”
Just to give you an idea of the fan intensity, IMDB’s star meter showed Meraz’s star ranking rose 25,566 percent in popularity this week (the shirtless picture at the top sure don’t hurt).
As for picking Chaske Spencer, who is likely to play Sam, she says–
“He’s someone I feel is going to be a star,” says Haynes. “I have cast him before. He’s always done lovely work. It’s awesome to know that it’s time for this young actor to have a great breakout role like this.”
“It was a very long process,” says Haynes, pointing out there were many strong candidates for the part. “It was up and down, up and down. But he floated to the top.”

Given the huge number of comments in our recent post about Robert Pattinson being stinky on the set of New Moon, the story has obviously hit a nerve. Amanda Bell at the Examiner sums up some of the press coverage of the (finger quote) “news”–
Recent reports by MTV, the Sun Times and others are attacking Twilight, New Moon, and Little Ashes star Robert Pattinson for his personal hygiene — as if things couldn’t get more ridiculous for the handsome thrust-into-the-spotlight beau.
Bill Zwecker from the Chicago Sun Times writes “On the one hand, there’s buzz from some staffers that the British actor’s ‘typical European aversion of daily showers’ has people sticking up their noses in disgust every time they get close enough to get a whiff of him.” Despite official denials such as those from co-star Kristen Stewart’s people saying (with latent pun) “Hogwash” and “Where do these stories come from?” Zwecker still maintains ‘Having listened to all this, I must report several colleagues who did Twilight interviews last fall did claim Pattinson threw off a bit of a stench.’ This, Zwecker states beyond the assertion by a “New Moon rep” that “It must really be a slow news day.”
Amanda then gives some reasons why this happened, and how it could have been avoided–but at the cost of Robert Pattinson not being himself in interviews–
Poor Rob. With the constant media frenzy surrounding him, the grace and dignity with which he addresses both the media (paparazzi aside) and his fans, the constant and ground-breaking success of his current works, and the beautiful photographs that continue to make headway across the globe of his clearly washed hair, that there would be more positive news surfacing from such sources. But alas, this is America, and we do love a scandal (for instance, see my response to attacks on Kristen Stewart). Too bad.
Check out the whole article over at the Examiner where Amanda lays out her argument. [thanks, Amanda!]

I’ve got another song suggestion for New Moon for you guys to check out-“You Are the Blood” by the Castanets. It’s been recently covered by Sufjan Stevens, but I think the Southern Gothic vibe of the original really suits New Moon and also builds on the general mood of the Twilight soundtrack as well.
What do you guys think?
N.B.: The fan video above has lots of quick flashy images, so if you don’t like that kind of thing watch out!

Radar Online has a brief article about the Canadian Mounties protecting the New Moon set to keep away prying eyes of adoring fans. One of them notes–
“It was an unusual mission but our remit was to keep the fans off the set,” Constable Baillant told RadarOnline.com exclusively. “Everything went well on the first day but then a group of teenage girls got a little too close when the filming moved to the Long Beach area of the island.”
“They were totally miffed with us when we told them that they could not get any closer, however, their spirits lifted when Kristin Stewart came over to pose for a few photographs with them,” he recalled. “It was raining really hard the whole time but the producers loved that because it helped to make their scenes much more gloomy and atmospheric too. This is a beautiful part of the world but when it gets cold and wet even a vampire would get the chills.”

Robert Pattinson has given his thoughts on New Moon–and he feels it’s a pretty tough sell:
“The book of ‘New Moon,’ the majority of it is incredibly depressing,” Pattinson told Reuters. “Obviously ‘Twilight’ was about finding first love and the difficulties of that, but ‘New Moon’ is really about loss and reconciliation, but the reconciliation isn’t completely full.”
“It’s a strange story to have for a market that, I guess, wants to see a love story,” he said.
Nevertheless, the London-born Pattinson said everyone involved is working to make “New Moon” as big a success as “Twilight.”
