EW Says Deleted Twilight Scenes “Rightfully Cut”

by Will on March 11, 2009 · Comments

in Twilight

200903111409.jpgDo you think the Twilight deleted scenes we’ve seen so far have been cut for a good reason? EW Popwatch thinks so–

If you’ve seen the sneak peek of three deleted Twilight scenes from the March 21 DVD release, do you think director Catherine Hardwicke was right to trim them from the final film? I’d have to say yes, yes, and yes. While in theory, a second bedroom kiss sounds like a good idea, this one would’ve taken away from the intensity of the, um, more stirring session in the movie.

I wanted to see the blood typing where she faints, Bella getting the "be safe" note, hopefully, they will have the letters in the other films and the notes, someone could have just copied the font writing in black ink pen, gosh! I would have done it myself if I could for free as they are pretty easy to copy. I also wanted to see Bella and Jessica in Trig, we never saw that and when she questions about Edward and when he is eavesdropping!

It was too rushed and those were some of my faves, why have a rubbish fieldtrip and too many diner scenes wth?

    Bye

That deleted scene wasn't fully deleted. I know many of you saw the movie a million times in the theater, but if anyone stayed while the credits were going and there were scenes playing in the background. You would have noticed that that is in them. Yes it wasn't actually in the movie where it would have been if it made it. But I thought I would share that little bit of information with everyone.

I agree with what everyone is saying. I especially agree that they should have at least had more kissing scenes in the movie because they kissed quite a bit in the book.. Also they did not say "I love you" in the movie and they did in the book, what is up with that?? I truly hope that even though Edward is gone for most of New Moon that when he does come back and they are in the bedroom they really elaberate on that scene as well as the rest of the movie showing the true love between them.. I mean if you need to, change the rating to R. If the parents let their teens read the books then why would they not let them go to the movie w/an adult????? I have seen a lot worse in rated PG13 movies than what is in Twilight. And for goodness sakes, make it LONGER!!!!!!!

  • Well for the scene where Edward turns up in Bella's room and it was a dream, I like to think that he really was there. But if they put the scene where they kiss in there, it would definitely be a dream. So yup they should cut it.

the cuts were a good idea b/c well for the young ones eyes at least, and sum of of it gets so hot and steamy ppl wouldnt know wut to do when they watched it i agree the 2nd one shoulda been in it cuz that really did kinda happen. edward being so concerned and all. but other ones im glad they took em out. the finger bite was very uh interesting but it was stupid how they took all these things out when they couda kept it since the movie didnt match with the book entirely.

Definitely a good thing these were cut. The second scene was actually very true to the book (and important to understanding Edwards' point of view), but it was still kind of lame. The biting scene had NOTHING to do with what Edward would have done in the book and the second kissing scene would have definitely destracted from the one that stayed.
  • raz
Keep in mind that they had no idea how well the movie would be received so would want to keep it to the comfortable standard length. 3 hours is probably right around the max market accepted feature time - Twilight defiantly could have gone a little longer than it did to actually show more depth to their relationship.

I am sure the budget that Summit gave for Twilight also played some factors into what they could have in the film as well.

I hope that they do extend new moon to at least 3 hours. I'm really afraid that they'll either compress the center of the book down, or miss key points in the beginning or end.

I can see them removing the whole part in the end when Alice and Bella race to Italy and just go from a scene where she leaves the house in Forks right to a scene where they're in Italy already.

They better have a yellow porche!

i actually saw the movie before i read the books, and of course now i've read them wayyyyyyy to many times . lol . but i thought they did a really good job the way it was and some stuff they did in the movie i actually liked better than what they did in the book . however im crazy about the book !! the scene where he bites her finger is sooooooooooo wrong i almost died. so im soo glad that wasnt there. its really messed. and the kissing scene was...well ...hot, but i can see why they cut to make their first kiss that much moree. and at the same time i think they should've had some more kissing type scenes after their first one, since there was quite a few in the book !!! but i have to say the one scene that i really wish was in the movie that wasn't was after the baseball game when edward, bella, alice and emmet are all in the car together !! thats my favourite part in the whole book !!

I agree with the deleted scenes being cut. I wish they would have shown how they fell in love with each other and how that love grew. It wouldn't have taken much more time! Before she wakes up they could have shown her saying his name and shown his reaction to that. That alone would have spoken volumes!!!!
  • Melina
I totally agree with that cut scene, because:

    1) this scene was not in the book (and they almost copied the book to the big screen)
2)Bella is not as "wild" as in this scene
  • JulieannaClark
I'm half for and half against the deleted kissing scene.
Most of it is the fact that i would have fell forward out of my seat drooling if this kissing scene was in the movie.
But! This was not in the book and they put to much stuff in Twilight that wasn't in the book.
I'm not going to lie though. I love the movie. (I love the book more.)
That kissing scene was hot. It really does show how much Bella wants to shag Edward in Breaking Dawn lol.

I'm still really disappointed they didn't have the blood testing/faiting scene in the movie. :|
I liked that part. and I was hoping that they'd have it as a deleted scene, but I don't feel like that's gonna happen.

personally, none of the scenes so far do I feel really needed to be in the movie. the diner scene I can understand, that might've been good to keep. but the others just seem really... I don't know, awkward to me.
  • i agree that the scenes should have been cut but i do like them as deleted scenes i mean
  • hisgoldeneyes
Yes. The deleted scenes were just a bit too intense and would overpower the other stuff. Plus they don't really follow the book so it's fine that they weren't a part of the movie.
  • I haven't seen all of the deleted scenes yet, but the ones posted here were very, very, very different for me. The scene where he bites her finger... awkward. The scene where they kiss in her bedroom... hot, but EW has a point about the other scene. It was, um, one of a kind. I don't think it gets any better (or hotter). But the scene in the forest where he tells her not to go into the woods alone... why wasn't that in the movie?

The whole "length" excuse is BS. If we -- as Twilight fans -- will sit on our butts for a whole day (or more) to READ A BOOK, what makes a director, or a critic, or anyone for that matter think that we won't spend another few minutes in the theater to see it come to life in a film? I don't care if the movie is 3 hours long... that just means that the movie is accurate to the book, and NO ONE is going to complain about that. How many of us wouldn't be willing to sit for another half hour to an hour to see the story more completely told? I know I would.

I will admit though, the scenes that they cut (that I've seen) for the most part wouldn't have enhanced Twilight too much for me to throw any kind of a fit.
  • raz

If I was able to sit 9 hours with no moving to see all 3 Lord of the Ring's, and if I was able to sit for hours and hours to read the books, with no sleeping/eating/anything else but reading, I sure would be able to sit in a theater to see the story being told in right details.

I think the one where she sticks her finger in his mouth is well..... ok no words but yes cut . The one where she tells edward not to read charlies mind and the steamy dream scene should have stayed.

i agree with you 100%!! i looooved when he "tampered" with her memory-it should have been it the movie. but i also agree that the deleted scenes were deleted for a reason-they just were a little to weird/awkward/unnecessary.

Yup, I agree with most of you guys : the love between bella & edward and the whole "get to know each other" wasn't shown enough. Too bad ! But even though i enjoyed some deleted scenes (especially those were you learn more about the story), the weird finger scene.. THANK GOD they didn't put in the movie coz it was totally out of line. Edward would have never let her do that ! In the book, as soon as she comes too close and all, he backs up immediately so for one, it was AKWARD, and also.. impossible (in the book at least)..

even if I think the scene where Edward bites Bella's finger is totally cool, I'm sure it was supposed to be left out- those are not Bella and Edward!
While, for the rest of the scenes (dinner with Charlie, don't read Charlie's mind, etc) should've been in the movie.
And yeah, I think the major problem in the movie is that you really couldn't see the LOVE between Edward & Bella.
You could barely see they're a couple, you couldn't possibly tell that they love eachother so much.
THAT should be shown in the movie.

The movie should have had an extra hour to show the progression of the relationship...three hours isn't that long. I do feel they did a great job with the beginning and end of the movie...just the middle was mixed up and not true to the book...like when she actually tells Edward she knows he's a vampire and the MEADOW SCENE!!!! Argh!! Oh well, I am confident in New Moon. They seemed to have learned from their "hiccups" and are eager to do this movie right. Wooo!

Ok yea there were some that were right to be deleted, but others such as the Charlie-mind reading one and another were Bella and Edward talk about how she can't take care of herself, yea those SHOULDN'T have been deleted cause they were crucial to the book/movie... but i honestly don't know about this kissing one cause i'm saving it until i get my DVD hehe!

I actually talked to a professor about why they had them in a diner and she thought it was because Stephenie was there...which I think is a good reason to change that little detail. Also, in the extended scene bella even mentions how she can cook...so we get the info although we don't see it.

Yes that may be so, but this scene also explains why she woke up ans decided to look to the corner in the first place, and also why she was fo frustrated.

i agree... there was also another one were they were walking in the woods and he says that she shouldnt be in the woods by herself i really liked that one and the one before the baseball game... those showed more of a relationship with bella and edward and also bella and her father. the other ones were right to be cut out.

Actually the scene where they were getting hot & heavy in her dream was in the book. She even said waking from one of those dreams that she was glad that he couldn't see what she was dreaming about. I think that if a lot of the scenes were left in the movie it would have improved the movie. Especially considering that I think the major problem with the movie was that you didn't get to know Edward and Bella as a couple like you did in the movie. They weren't seen as a fun loving couple in the movie like they were in the book. Someone who had not read the book would not understand how intense their relationship was and how they truly grew to love each other. So, I think they should have left the majority of the scenes. I even like the scene where Bella sees Edwards room for the first time, except for the chinchilla part that was kind of weird.
  • brandy
    Definitely agree with you there!!!!!
  • I agree with everything you said, except the chincilla part as well considering in the book she said she gave up after her 3rd fish died, I thought the scenes that were deleted showed some off the chemistry that they had, and it lacked a bit throughout the film, when I seen some off the deleted scenes I was like...WTF....and I couldnt understand why Catherine had left them out, it made me feel really disappointed with her, I think that Chris Weltz is going to do an amazing job I have every faith in him to stay true to the book!

There was the scene in the diner with Charlie and Bella that I liked a lot, and it was dialog straight from the book. I think they should have kept that scene. As well as the scene when Edward tells bella that he's not the most dangerous thing out there... I liked that one too. But as far as any of the others scene, I think they were right to cut them out. ESPECIALLY! the one where Edward bit (or whatever he did) to Bella's finger. That was just wrong!!!!! And the whole dream scene were Edward kisses Bella in her room...Though it was hot and steamy it wasn't in the book and it had no right to be in the movie.

i agree... there was also another one were they were walking in the woods and he says that she shouldnt be in the woods by herself i really liked that one and the one before the baseball game... those showed more of a relationship with bella and edward and also bella and her father. the other ones were right to be cut out.
  • loveacloudyday
I agree with everything you wrote. Some of the extended scenes (diner, don't read charlie's mind, etc.) should have been left in because it elaborated the story. One scene from the book I really would have liked to have seen was when Edward "tampered" with Bella's memory just before they go to the field to play baseball. I thought it was really funny and romantic. The other two deleted scenes (bite and dream) were right to be cut.
  • ♥twilighter1795♥
i agree with you 100%!! i looooved when he "tampered" with her memory-it should have been it the movie. but i also agree that the deleted scenes were deleted for a reason-they just were a little to weird/awkward/unnecessary.
  • raz
In the book through Edward carried Bella from the road to the field to play baseball and he had to tamper with her thoughts to make her comfortable with carrying her. In the movie though they drove the jeep right up onto the field erasing the whole carrying scene to and from the field.
  • loveacloudyday
I know...I like how it was in the book...they just drove in the movie, not bothering to show their chemistry.
  • gottobekidding
I agree. Except that the diner seen should have been at home at the kitchen table where it really happened. They never ate out. Just one of those lame changes that were made.
  • loveacloudyday
I actually talked to a professor about why they had them in a diner and she thought it was because Stephenie was there...which I think is a good reason to change that little detail. Also, in the extended scene bella even mentions how she can cook...so we get the info although we don't see it.
  • Drumgurl
I agree that it was good that they deleted the extra kissing scene.
However, the I really liked the scene in Edward's bedroom where they were discussing his journals. I thought that was very sweet, and true to Edward's character.
The scene where they were outside on the ground (you know the FINGER scene!) well it was good to show the playful/intimate side of Edward and Bella's relationship, however, it was quite risque and AWESOME! So I'm really on the fence about that one.
  • myedwardplace
To be honest I do think the deleted sceens are rightfully cut but at the same time I think they could have done so much more with the movie. I wish that the movie would have been longer. I don't feel that the first movie truely showed the relationship that Bella and Edward had. There was a lack of attachment in the movie, however I still love the movie. I hope they make New Moon longer to show Bella's pain she goes through and how Jacob helps her find herself again.
  • brandy
I totally agree with you on that one!
  • loveacloudyday
The movie should have had an extra hour to show the progression of the relationship...three hours isn't that long. I do feel they did a great job with the beginning and end of the movie...just the middle was mixed up and not true to the book...like when she actually tells Edward she knows he's a vampire and the MEADOW SCENE!!!! Argh!! Oh well, I am confident in New Moon. They seemed to have learned from their "hiccups" and are eager to do this movie right. Wooo!
  • kat
I agree that the scenes deserved to be cut, especially the one where Edward bit Bella's finger ... that was just weird!
  • iLoveEC

I think there should have been other scenes put in the movie...like Blood Typing...The scenes that were cut I feel were cut for the good.

Yes that may be so, but this scene also explains why she woke up ans decided to look to the corner in the first place, and also why she was fo frustrated.

I agree with everything you said, except the chincilla part as well considering in the book she said she gave up after her 3rd fish died, I thought the scenes that were deleted showed some off the chemistry that they had, and it lacked a bit throughout the film, when I seen some off the deleted scenes I was like...WTF....and I couldnt understand why Catherine had left them out, it made me feel really disappointed with her, I think that Chris Weltz is going to do an amazing job I have every faith in him to stay true to the book!
