FearNet has a huge new interview up with Edi Gathegi, Kellan Lutz and Rachelle Lefevre. They touch on a whole host of topics, including the script of New Moon–

Getting back to New Moon… Do you guys find the script to be very similar to the book?

GATHEGI: I read New Moon before I started filming Twilight, so I can’t recall scene by scene but I know the care that Summit is taking care to bring to life the vision and make the fans happy. Chris cares about that too, so I’m sure it will be very close in the same way that Twilight was very close.

LEFEVRE: It’s really similar to what they did for Twilight in a sense that it’s really condensed time. There are certain things that just didn’t make it in or got added. It’s not new. It’s just an amalgamation of things they needed to condense. It’s just a way to move the story forward. Those are the only real changes, in the same way that Twilight was. They take the center of the story, which is the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob and then everything is tailored to fit.

so why does Edi Gathegi get so much press? He has a such a minor role in both movies it is retarded for him to be out answering questions lol.

I mean.. wow he shows up. tells bella hes gonna kill her.. then he runs off and dies off camera. BIG ROLE!

Check out BlogTalkRadio interview with Taylor Lautner. This was a really, really good interview with lots of information. He repeated a couple of times that the movie stayed very closely along the lines of the book. It gives me renewed hope that they will get it right!

I'm hoping Chris can do a better job at sticking to the scenes from the book than Catherine did.. Its inevitable that they have to take some scenes out and thats really disappointing in itself but whats really upsetting is when they mess up the scenes that they actually put in.

all i can say is, it drives me insane everytime I hear Bella say "my dad" to people in the Twilight movie.. I practically scream.. SAY CHARLIE.

I am the mom of a teenager who got me to read the twilight series. i think the biggest problem is the ego of the screenwriter! I have seen them add/delete scenes in my favorite books, the lord of the rings trilogy, and my second favorite, the harry potter books. my daughter hated it when the same thing was done to her favorite, twilight. the people involved don't seem to know or care that when a book sells millions of copies, people LOVE it, faults and all. they don't need to put their personal stamp on it. there were things done in the third harry potter movie that made me sit there at the end and think "THIS is the movie i have to add to my collection? could someone please fix it first?" there were changes in the lord of the rings (especially return of the king) that made me want to kick someone in the kneecaps! so you might as well accept that they ARE GOING to screw this up, because so few screenwriters get it!

I know! I honestly don't care if it comes out in like another year. If they're worried about time then take more time! We want to see a good movie!
  • Lainaaa
I agree completely... all the hesitating and blinking and ditziness just made all the dialogue really REALLY awkward... I was squirming in my seat from all the uneasiness I was feeling from their conversations..

I hope Melissa realizes she mutilated this book, and she better not do the same to NM.

It was silly for them to even take out some of the scenes that they did.. the movie wasn't that long.. I'm sure they could have fit them in.

I don't understand why kellan says that he's doing a lot of wire works, he doesn't fight in new moon, right?

This isn't sounding good..... I hope they pull this off!

  • W......T.......F!!!!!!! *BITING TONGUE AND TRYING NOT TO REACT BADLY* CONDENSING IT!!!! Oh for the love off good god!!!! I was hearing nothing but good things about New Moon, that it was staying true to the book, even more so than Twilight, which to be honest some off the things that were in Twilight were just ridiculous like "you better hold on tight spider monkey" I rest my case! Yes I understand that they cant put every detail in as it would last about 10hrs, but still it needs to contain alot off what is in the book as a lot off it is vital to telling the story. And its not about the rivalry between Jacob and Edward for the love off Bella, that doesnt happen to Eclipse! It's about a growing relationship between Bella and Jacob. And about Bella dealing with the losss of the Love off her life and than getting him back again. I will have to keep my opinion "condensed" until I see the film when it comes out.

ok rant over for now! Lol

I will keep faith in Chris to deliver a brilliant film. Until then we should all keep an open mind and judge the final product

agreed. agreed. agreed. and there was one scene in the movie that totally didn't make sense to me to add --- the scene after the accident, where bella goes into the kitchen and her dad tells her to call her mom --- then,. nothing. what did that add???? nada. they included that one scene, and didn't include other s that were more important?? i think both catherine and melissa contributed to the destruction of the story in the movie -- they tried to make something else out of a beautiful love story ...
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
    Oh GOD!
I just HOPE and PRAY that NM will be so much BETTER than Twilight 'cause they DID leave out some stuff that was very sweet and important for us, but I do understand that they have to compress stuff that's why WE say to make NM longer!! Hello, that's the answer! I'm sure NONE of us would complain about a 3-4 hour long NEW MOON movie now would we? Hell NO!! Please, just PLEASE keep it close to the book w/ the essential scenes!!!!!!!!!
  • Sam
I was just saying I think it's gonna be amazing...then BAM....this news drops. This is not good...twilight was not true to the book...the extended scenes were closer to the actual book...and those were cut. how can they take scenes away..but add new ones that don't belong?? WTF its not an action movie...It's a love story. I think the screenwriter is awful and she is butchering our beloved story.I didn't even feel the love between edward and bella in the movie...they cut all the little kisses and touches out..to replace them with charcters that don;t exist and vampires who didn't even appear till the end...why??? so our boyfriends would like it as much as we do because there's a fight scene....who cares...It's a chick machine deal with it! ugh I am frosted!

    I agree with " ;-) "

Melissa Rosenberg was hired to do the screenplay again, which I feel might be a mistake. I somewhat blame her for the horrific Bella performance. Kristin Stewart needs a lot more to work with than the lines she had to deliver. Don't get me wrong- I sill can't stand the hesitating and the head bobbing- I'm just saying she could have done better, with better dialogue.
  • Lainaaa

I hope they don't add anything to the movie like they did in twilight. The field trip was so lame!! "green is good" ugh! They should have done the blood typing scene instead! There are so many good scenes in the books!! I don't know why they have to add anything!! I don't think it would be Chris Weitz fault but it is Melissa Rosenberg's if she continues to add scenes that don't make any sense! She didn't have a lot of continuity in twilight. Almost like it was just pieced together.
  • 1netka

Ok so I understand they can make the movie an exact match to the book but if you would stop adding irrelevant extras to the movie they could add more of good stuff... the important stuff from the book. I mean don’t get me wrong I thought twilight was ok but I was definitely disappointed that some of the more important scenes were missing.
  • Mickey
if they are so concerned about time, why would they add things that weren't in the book??? ugh this is soooooo annoying!

oh great "It’s really similar to what they did for Twilight in a sense that it’s really condensed time" that cant be good at all. ugh... oh and "There are certain things that just didn’t make it in" i hope they got all the essential scenes...

Can someone please start agreeing with me now that this director is going to butcher this movie. Here is further proof this movie is not going in the right direction. Chris Wietz better get his act together, make the script revisions if this is going to be like the first film, bc people want a better movie, not a movie holding consistent to how the first film flowed.
  • L
It is starting to seem to me that Melissa is destroying the story being translated from book to screen. If it is the same type of crappy translation, then we can come to the conclusion that Melissa is not doing a good job at writing the script. We all know that every detail cannot be in the movie but cutting out small things DOES NOT mean adding more pointless things. In Twilight, they did not need to have the additional footage of the bad vamps. That time could have been used to better scenes, such as the meadow scene. That was the biggest butcher of all time.
  • JulieannaClark
I do agree. You should read what i wrote \/
  • 1netka
Uhhh --- if they believe that New Moon is going to be the same as Twilight --- a LOT Of fans will be disappointed -- and may not come back for the third movie. They found a lot of ways to short cut the first book, and totally changed the dynamic of the story. They failed to build up story and just discarded all the elements of the book that laid the foundation for the rest of the series. I sure hope that these folks don't know what they are talking about -- and that we will be pleasantly surprised by the movie. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Something to really keep in mind with the movie is that if it included what everyone wanted it would be a 10 hour film. Not something very feasible for the big screen. They have to compress a fairly large book into 2 hours. Not an easy feat and to make it work there has to be trade offs.

With what they had to work with I can see why they did some things in the film that differed greatly from the book. They did a very good job compressing it down and making it make sense in the compressed form.
  • gottobekidding
They actually did a terrible job with Twilight. They put things in like a field trip and climbing trees instead of other very important scenes. I realize it cannot be exact but, these words from the actors are not making me very confident. It's the "got added" comment that worries me. I think we all realize that every scene cannot be there no matter how badly we want them. I wish we knew how long the movie is supposed to be. If they are trying for just 2 hours again, there is no way they can put together a good movie.
  • Elloo

That...doesn't sound that good. I hope someone asks Taylor that tonight. He probably has a better idea since he has a more central roll. And BTW..i am starting to like pics of Kellan wayyyyy too much. He is such a hunky hunk!! Just plain and in your face adorable. His eyes are more killer than Robs. That pic of him arriving at the airport was yummy.

Yeah, he seems like a sweetie! And I agree, what they said about New Moon doesn't sound good. I mean, I think it is good they are all excited about it and are saying that it is better than the first one, but like....I don't like the way they changed Twilight from the book, so I am hoping it is not completely true what Rachelle said - that they changed New Moon in the same way...although I guess the screenwriter is the same for this movie...

THANK YOU!!! completely AGREE! if they were going to cut down the movie, they should have at least stuck to important scenes, not making stupid ones up. u would think trying to make twilight into a movie, u would at least include scenes from TWILIGHT!!! duhhh
and yes NM should be longer if its gana be good (i DEF wont complain i luv long movies)
  • Anonymous
the only comfort we have is to know that the script is SO much better, according to ashley green, who plays alice. She said that the script is SO much better compared to twilight. so hopefully that means that there will be no stupid lines in there, and that it will closer to the book's dialogue? idk i REALLLY REALLLY hope it will be better too, now that the excitement over twilight has worn off and we can all take a step back and see that it really wasn't AMAZING other than having edward and rob in it <3!!
  • Anonymous
hahaha i know in my head, he's competition for rob loll!

and yes i ttly agree that twilight was NOT a good translation of the book-to-screen! they fabricated and twisted scenes so that the essence of twilight was lost; if they have to cut stuff out of new moon from the book to the movie, then at least PLEASE have the scenes be exact to the book that ARE included, for example the break up. PLEASE dont screw that one up! make is exactly like the book
  • JulieannaClark
I do agree. You should read what i wrote /
  • Stacey
I'm sure they'll show Bella meeting Laurent in the meadow, no? That's such a great scene, I'd hate to see it go awry on the big screen. It would be nice if they acknowledged her history in that spot, how poignant it is that one of the wolves who saves her from Laurent is Jacob.... Oh well you all know what I mean, you read it. ;)

Anyham...I like the way Edi says Laurent.
