Harry Potter versus Twilight: Library Hosts Debate

Harry Potter Twilight Debate The Seattle Public Library is getting its young visitors involved in a creative way , hosting a debate where students debate the merits of each book.

“There is so much buzz around these two series. At Team Read, it’s our goal to get students excited about reading, and we wanted to host an event that celebrated how much students love these books,” states Bill Eisele, program developer for Team Read.

4TNZ has some arguments that the students might use–

Reasons for Paleness–Twilight: Because they’re undead, Harry Potter: Because they’re British
Leading Ladies–Twilight: Smart, bookish Bella, Harry Potter: Smart, bookish Hermoine

Seems silly to even compare the two, both fantasy, yes, but other than that they're in totally different worlds, different writing styles, different general appeal....kinda like apples and oranges, in my humble opinion.

It depends on what your debating.... they are both SO great but in different areas. If your debating on the love story... obviously TWilight. If your debating on character development, enriched plot.... I'd lean towards HP.

Team....SWITZERLAND . I like the two series. I like Twilight and all the romance, vampires and stuff, but I grow up with Harry Potter and its one of my favorite books!

I don't understand all the fight between the fans, they're good at different ways. I think Twilight is a book for people who likes fantasy and romance, and Harry Potter is more of a mystery, fantasy and life kind of book.

I agree somewhat with you as well. They are completely different, that is true, but in this case (and I think I'm the only one here) I'm Team Harry Potter. Harry Potter is incredible with all the detail and complexity...it makes me reel. I think that J.K. Rowling is a much better writer than SM and it shows in their works.

Oh I think that JKR is a better writer too and I agree with you about Harry Potter having more detail and complexity. The problem with Twilight is that it focus in the love between the main characters and forgets almost everything around them....

Absolutely agree. JK is obviously the better writer. SM's created a rather interesting world, but if one compares the quality of the literature, well, Twilight isn't even literature. So I suppose, therefore they are not really comparable seeing as they are both different types of works. The only thing they probably have in common is the fact that they're both a series, (and the movies share one actor).

Twilight is rockin' because of the love story. I understand peoples' attraction to the Harry Potter series,but I love Twilight much more. JKR is a great author, though.
But agree, it's like comparing apples and oranges, both great fruits, but great in their own way, too.
I also think the Lord of the Rings trilogy was awesome, too!
But when it comes down to it, I have to vote for Twilight.

You should read it...if it weren't for the Lord of the rings series we wouldn't have all this awesome books to read now. Tolkien inspired almost all fantasy writers. It's a great trilogy but very hard to read too. One of my favorite books also....

i have to go team switzerland on this one. harry potter and twilight are sooooo different, its hard for me to even compare them in any sense. harry potter will always have a very special place in my heart that twilight cant replace, and vice versa. they both make me happy, and i love them both alot. so team switzerland!!
