Check out these pictures of Alex Meraz from his MySpace page. The one on the top right is from today’s New Moon set pictures and the one on the bottom right is from Alex Meraz’s MySpace page. I think, given these pictures, we can say with some certainty that Alex Meraz is one of the members of the wolf pack in New Moon alongside Taylor Lautner. Check out the Mystery Hottie’s resume–he’ll be giving Taylor Lautner a run for his money!

Alex Meraz, of the Purepecha (Tarasco) First Nation of Michoacan, Mexico was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. There he taught at schools and community centers throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan area in all aspects of art from mask-making to break dance. As a graduate of the New School for the Arts, Alex has since further developed as a multi-faceted performer and artist. For 12 years Alex studied mixed martial arts, winning numerous tournaments in karate and capoeira, which led him to train with Andy Cheng as a stuntman. Highly sought after in the indigenous dance world, Alex has worked as a lead dancer with renowned choreographers Raoul Trujillo, Rulan Tangen, and Santee Smith, to name a few. Among his many accomplishments, he is also a founding member of Dancing Earth, directed by Rulan Tangen. His notoriety with Dancing Earth earned him the honor of being hand-picked for a troupe selected to represent the U.S. in a performance for the Royal Jordanian family in Amman, Jordan. With a vast range of talents, Alex’s skill in acting and the performing arts has allowed him to work alongside Colin Farrell, Christian Bale, and Director Terrence Malick.

Maybe, instead of after-hours guitar jams, they’re going to start a New Moon fight club with Taylor and Alex–that I would love to see!

There are 100% or at least 50% Native actors out there who can play these roles. Please make sure they are Native...and that it shows in their features!     Although Hollywood has contributed to a singular stereotype of what a "native" should be, I hate to break it to you hon but most natives aren't "golden russet-colored" only from "America". If you're so interested in the origins of natives, you should maybe educated yourself on where hundreds of tribes, including Mayans and Aztecs came from...MesoAmerica! Or just in case that flew over your head...what is now modern day Mexico.

I'm Hispanic lineage from spanish & german I'm pale, green eyes, light brown hair, cuacuasian features O.K. so I wouldn't ever qualify to portray a Quilete tribe member. Compare to me he doesn't look white like me.

    You need to learn some history and to stop being so chauvinistic and racist. Please be more respectful towards other nationalities, besides Mexicans are very good actors (or have you never heard of Gael Garcia Bernal...) The guy looks right for the part. If the cast was going to be politically correct then they should have selected all the native americans from the same ethnicity. Since this is nearly impossible, stop criticizing. This is just a movie and what matters is a good performance. An actor may look exactly like the character he/she must portray but if he doesn't do a good job it ruins the movie.

    Guess what, you can be full blooded Native and have a variety of skin tones and a variety of features, we dont some from a cookie cutter stamp. Ever been to the North, hey even some of our elders who speak their languages fluently and practice their traditional culture and religion actually have green eyes, so lighter brown hair, or arent miror image of the profile of the Indian head nickel. Even Tasunka Witko ( Crazy Horse, look it up) was called Curly in his boyhood years because of light brown curly hair. Being Native is more than a look. Casting of a role written as Native should definitely prioritize actors of Native heritage, and consider talent, acting skills and experience, reliablity, stamina, physical condition ( if that is part of the role), focus, determination, attitude, ability to work with others, as well as looks, for example. His resume is impressive,and his ancestors have spoken.

    The difference... AS a NW Native, from my point of view... this guy doesn't look the least bit QUILEUTE or any other Coastal Salish tribe! Mexican is not Northwest Native.

    It's all good. It was just bothering me that people were saying he's "WHITE." I'm not sure where in the movie making rules it says they have to use someone specifically from a Coastal Tribe. Sure, it would've been nice . . . but I think most fans have an idea already of what the wolf pack should look like and that the people making this film are doing their best to stick by that while upholding the whole "Native" premiss.

    summit is really have the best casting team and i hope they could play well, since we all know the cullens is spread their magic beuty into twilight, i think it's time for the wolf pack, BRAVO.

Ever been to the North, hey even some of our elders who speak their languages fluently and practice their traditional culture and religion actually have green eyes, so lighter brown hair, or arent miror image of the profile of the Indian head nickel. Even Tasunka Witko ( Crazy Horse, look it up) was called Curly in his boyhood years because of light brown curly hair. Being Native is more than a look. Casting of a role written as Native should definitely prioritize actors of Native heritage, and consider talent, acting skills and experience, reliablity, stamina, physical condition ( if that is part of the role), focus, determination, attitude, ability to work with others, as well as looks, for example. His resume is impressive,and his ancestors have spoken.

    It's all good. It was just bothering me that people were saying he's "WHITE." I'm not sure where in the movie making rules it says they have to use someone specifically from a Coastal Tribe. Sure, it would've been nice . . . but I think most fans have an idea already of what the wolf pack should look like and that the people making this film are doing their best to stick by that while upholding the whole "Native" premiss.

    Although Hollywood has contributed to a singular stereotype of what a "native" should be, I hate to break it to you hon but most natives aren't "golden russet-colored" only from "America". If you're so interested in the origins of natives, you should maybe educated yourself on where hundreds of tribes, including Mayans and Aztecs came from...MesoAmerica! Or just in case that flew over your head...what is now modern day Mexico.

    The difference... AS a NW Native, from my point of view... this guy doesn't look the least bit QUILEUTE or any other Coastal Salish tribe! Mexican is not Northwest Native.

    Did you guys actually read the entire four books by Stephenie Meyer or were you all just dreaming along? It's not just about an eternal love between Bella and Edward. It's about all this racist stuff going on around the world. Vampires vs humans. Vegetarian Vampires vs Vampires trying to feel human. Humans trying to be human vampires. Humans and Vamires creating human Vampires. Werewolves loving humans, that feel closer to vampires. And finally, Werewolves falling in love with human vampires. And you are actually discussing, if one of the actors is white, mexican or indian. As if that matters. Twilight is about eliminating racial differences without giving up his historical identity and how good this feels for everone.
