LA Times: Bayona Not Confirmed as Eclipse Director

200903122231.jpgLA Times has an excellent take on today’s news that Juan Antonio Bayona was picked to direct Eclipse–news based primarily on reports from Nikki Finke and Variety. In fact, Summit President of Production Erik Feig tells the LA Times Big Picture Blog–

“The ‘Eclipse’ directing job hasn’t been offered to Juan Antonio or anyone else,” he told me. “We’ve met with three or four talented filmmakers and we’ll be meeting with three or four more other candidates before we make any decision. No one has been offered the job.”

further, it’s not ever certain that Bayona wants the job–

As it turns out, Bayona was in town and had a Wednesday meeting with Summit execs, who are certainly impressed by his resume. Bayona has also met with “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, who has a lot to say about any key creative choices made on each film in the series. On the other hand, Bayona has told friends that he isn’t sure he wants to tackle the film. Though he also admires the series, he’s concerned about how much creative involvement he would have coming in to direct the third installment in a series, where most of the casting and character development is already in place.

The whole blog post is a good read, and a good lesson on believing any rumor on the web before official confirmation from the parties involved. Summit hires new ‘Twilight’ director, right? Wrong!

Oh no, I didn't mean to make it sound like I blamed the website or you guys for putting it up. ha, I just meant that rumors shouldn't be made to sound official in the first place.
I love you guys; I love all the news you put up, really.

I hope my comment didn't come off as ungrateful or anything because really, I do love this website and you people who make it.
  • To be fair, I did use a question mark at the end of my title when I posted
    the Variety article. =)

Yeah. I agree. I mean, I'm not gonna lie, any information I get on this movie excites me, but I think I have come to realize you really can't trust it until you really do hear it from an official source.
I am not going to blame whoever wrote that article that was posted on this site, but I will blame whoever heard the rumor and made it sound official, posting an article on it, and generated way too much press and excitement.
  • Hey, Nikki, from the Deadline Hollywood, answered Goldstein about the Bayona controversy. I thought you guys should know about this.

So true. At this point any information we get should be taken with a grain of salt unless it comes in one of those global e-mails from Summit. I'm not buying into any of this "official source" crap anymore. If it was an office source you could tell who this alleged source is right??

Why do people spread lies?? They know we're hungry for info so they're totally effing with us. Down with the Twilight haters already!!!

Well this is official...sources are full of crap!
And we don't even don't know about New Moon cast...there's still no official announcement. We don't even know who will play Aro for example. I would like to get that cleared up first.

Us Twilighters just obsess over any information we can get, me included. Ha.
I am just annoyed at the sources that make this sound official, because then it spreads, and then things have to be taken back....
I was relieved when they said it was Bayona, because I really didn't want Barrymore. But maybe they will find someone better than both of these two.
Moral of the story - when it comes to the Twilight Saga movies, don't consider it official until Summit sends you an email.
