Robert Pattinson Says New Moon “Strange Story” to Market

Robert Pattinson New Moon Robert Pattinson has given his thoughts on New Moon–and he feels it’s a pretty tough sell:

“The book of ‘New Moon,’ the majority of it is incredibly depressing,” Pattinson told Reuters. “Obviously ‘Twilight’ was about finding first love and the difficulties of that, but ‘New Moon’ is really about loss and reconciliation, but the reconciliation isn’t completely full.”

“It’s a strange story to have for a market that, I guess, wants to see a love story,” he said.

Nevertheless, the London-born Pattinson said everyone involved is working to make “New Moon” as big a success as “Twilight.”

    First! xD
  • hey, there he is, i was wondering where he went to!

i know, it really is like he disappeared. Maybe he is just really getting into character for New Moon?

Awe, my little spunk, you'll find a way to market it, not that you need to really. Looking forward to seeing it, and you in all your sparkling glory. :)

I am worried that it will be too depressing for non-fans of the book. I mean, I don't know what the tagline will be, but if it's "Love, life, meaning, over" I am pretty sure that won't sell a lot of people.
It will still be amazing though, and this is, after all, for the fans, so it's all good.

Never fear . . . these movies are book fan driven. I think that they will fair well regardless of whether or not Twilight movie only fans like New Moon the movie or not!!!! (think about the books sales!)
  • SilverStreak
Well I thought the only depressing parts to the book is when he leaves and then also at the end when Jacob's heart breaks when she leaves to save him. But everything in the middle wasn't gloom and doom
  • nomesters
I dunno, I think it was still pretty depressing even when the friendship between Bella and Jacob was developing. In my opinion, it always had a sort of depressing feel to it, even at Bella's happiest moment with Jacob - it never felt like she was fully happy

I don't understand the part when he said the " reconciliation isn't full", I'm a little confused Lol
  • tweter76 . . . vamplover
I think it has to do with the fact that she does not become a vampire in this book. I mean, yes . . . they are together again but there are all of these other things going on that could potential keep them apart. Reconciliation isn't complete until they are married and she is a vampire and can no longer be taken from him.
  • nomesters
I think he might be insinuating that she starts to develop feelings for Jacob? Maybe that is what he meant, that yes, Edward comes back, but now Jacob is a very important part of her life, and it isn't the same for Bella and Edward as it was before.
  • SilverStreak
That's what I was thinking too. Edward had left her from what he thought was to save her from bringing her any more danger and suffering, and he leaving brought on Bella's and Jacobs strong friendship and he saw that only added extra heartache, dilemma, & indecision from both of them again when they (B&E) got back together because of that bond she attained with jacob.

BTW, I so much prefer and enjoy these kind of more mature discussions about the book or film instead of the negative tabloid gossip attacking any of the cast members or anyone having to do with the book.

I agree, I love these discussions.

    Right on the dot!!
That's exactly how I see it!
  • He's got a point.
The book made me ball like a baby.... reliving the breakup through Bella.

I read this entire article. I think R Pattinson fans are going to be sorely disappointed when he decides he no longer wants to be in the movies (in the spotlight). He has said time and time again that he doesn't like all of the attention and that he doesn't care to do another movie after these are done. He is very creative and artistic and I could totally see him doing something other than acting.

Let's all just hope he doesn't get too tired of the spotlight before BD is filmed. They've all only signed contracts to do New Moon and Eclipse. Wouldn't that just suck?!
  • WetDishRag (AKA deedee81)
I'd love to see him go down the musical root, even if he didnt do anymore films. Its such a waste if he doesnt pursue it. Alothough he said he isn't doing any music for new moon I really hope he changes his mind.

But I'd be gutted if they filmed Breaking Dawn and he wasn't in it. It just wouldn't be same, I couldnt see Ewdard played by anyone else, and that goes for them all, now including the wolves!

I think he is becoming increasingly good at hiding out so here's hoping he doesn't get too sick off the spotlight.
  • tweter76 . . . vamplover
He said he's not contributing to New Moon but he is working on composing music. :)

Let all hope that it he doesn't become another tragic young hollywood story! It seems like he has a good hold on things now. Lets hope he keeps finding a way to escape all the attention so we can continue to see him around for years.

Rob is an Old Soul, and I like that about him, he's so dwon to earth, really doesnt care what is being said about him, or what is in store for him in the future, he lives day by day, I had to learn to live day by day after recovering from my eatiing disorder and it makes you appriciate life more..
New Moon is good book and I don't think they will have a hard time marketing it, It's a sad story line they find love, then he makes the choice of leaving her for her own good when it really just breaks her heart...her rescuing him not nowing if he wants anything to do with her the intense conversation she has with him in her room when she wakes up and thinks she's dreaming the vote there is a lot going on..but they are willing to endure every min of it cuz they really love each other and dont want to be apart!!
  • SilverStreak
I did like the movie Twilight, but I felt the love between B&E much, much, much stronger when I read the book than what I saw or felt from the movie. I think If I had not read the book and only went to see the movie I would not have thought it was such a great and grand love story as it really is from the books. I can't blame the movie making process though as they can't put every sweet detail in there that makes you feel the extreme love they have for each other.

So maybe that might be the case for all non-reader movie-goers, and they won't feel the very depressing feelings the readers seeing it might feel upon Edward leaving. And as I commented before I thought those were the only very sad moments that made me cry. When Edward leaves and when Bella leaves and Jacob's heart''s broken.

As for the everything else in the middle wasn't too bad and there were quite a few light and funny moments because of Jacob's light-hearted character aside from the brief moment after his first phasing. And like TeamWolf Pack said "They will be awaiting Edward's return or maybe end up like me and fall for Jacob! :D"

And last point, guys who are being taken(dragged, hehe) by there girlfriends I think will be surprisingly surprised and like it since their will be some action with the wolves and then also some action in the Italy scenes.

Awww it's okay guys... us fans know what the book encompasses and why it will be somewhat different than Twilight and who cares what the other-none-fans think! It's made for the book fans, of course! I just hope that Rob stays sane and doesn't leave us w/o him for the rest of the movies. Please, Rob, please DON'T leave us!!! We need you in the movies!!!
  • i really liked new moon and i know new moon will be a great flim especially with rob kristen and taylor working on it lol
  • Kelly
I don't think it will be hard to market...love stories are good when there's a lil heartbreak it makes it more realistic...besides i think ppl (who saw the first one but didn't read the books) will go see it jus to see if she becomes a vampire and the whole victoria thing. Plus all the hottie wolves!!! And bella and edward reunite if they market those aspects it should be fine. Not to worry us Twihard fans will go see it at least twice LOL...
  • Marianne
I think what he meant by marketing it as a love story being strange, was because all
3 hearts were broken in this book. So it is depressing all the way around. When
he does come back Bella has formed an attachment with Jacob and reconciliation
was not complete. At the end of New Moon Edward sees that Jacob still has a place
in Bella's heart and all through Eclipse she tries to get to spend time with him
even though she loves Edward more than anyhting else.
  • ILoveAliceCullen
I heard Ashley Greene say in an interview that there is ALOT more action in New Moon which is great because Chris Weitz is really good at that sort of thing and Taylor and Kristen won't let us down with the drama. I am staying pretty positive that the New Moon movie will be better than the Twilight movie.
