OMG! I think my reason of life just went down a bit when i saw EIGHTEEN year old Kristin smoking!!!! Seriously!! I don't want to sound like one of those people, but shes frickin 18! I guess i shouldve seen it coming with a lot of the movies shes done but really! she was like my role model, now its jsut a bad example! ppl dont understand how many young fans twilight has, seriuosly, im almost 12 and ALL my friends love twilight!! and so does my entire school! well girls at least, but we look up to kristin as a role model so HELLO!!! I hate to see anyone smoking, the consequences can be horrific. But this is sometimes a side effect of show business. I teach at a private school where many of our students have gone on to the movie business. They invariably come back smokers and most say it's to keep the weight off. The public wants them to be "healthy role models" but also appear rail thin and/or buff on camera. Congratulations to any young actor who can stay fit AND away from smoking and diet drugs. Carrying a movie franchise is a tremendous pressure to be placed under at such a young age.

the sad thing is that even tho we have these amazing campaigns against the tobacco companies, and the awareness of what smoking causes, people continue on doing it regardless. it breaks my heart to see some kids on my school, people that have grown up with me since kindergarten smoking (not only cigarettes if u know what i mean). and to see how they are changing, not only physically, but the whole I NEED A CIGARETTE thing...their hands start shaking, they get anxious and even aggressive,skinny, they even look sick and weak, its just..... its not my life, but i have lived it. i didn't choose to smoke, but i had my share of it thanks to second hand smoke, and thankfully, after 15 years of breathing it, all i got away with was asma, not death. all im trying to get through is, forget about the whole "don't you DARE to talk about my twilight idols" thing and get through you head that, if you truly are a fan, you should stand up against this, even if they dont hear you, even if they dont know you exist. and lets face it, kristen smokes POT, are you gonna excuse that too? DRUGS! what? because is her life does and is none of my business does it makes it ok? ok then fine, if that's what you want the plp around you to do ignore it. and that's why the world is never gonna see the day when we are smoke and drug free, because plp ignore it and dont care!!

Men smoking? Not a great look, but I guess that depends on what floats your boat. But personally, I think, it's kind of gross when female smoke, like, it's a really bad look. It stinks. And if you smoke too much, your hands and teeth gets stained yellow.

To tell yo truth i am for all the polls.1.) I was raised with 2 wonderful parents and while i was growing up they thought me to shudder to the thought of smoking this is because it is dangerous and addictive it is bad for the health...and i was raised to say "NO" to smoking...even if i am not even in the legal age of smoking...but i am not smoking (duh) and i am not planing to try is soon or for that matter EVER...i would never like to be with a person who smokes one, because he/she might smell bad (haha) and two, because i don't want to get 2nd hand smoking...and i would hate to see a person on my favorite show and think that a lot of young people look up to them...but they really smoke and that is a bad example for young people ( including I)And i would really appreciate it if they would do their business somewhere private...:D Poll 2.) Wow, I just scanned this briefly....but are you serious. Don't we live in a free country? I don't smoke, have never smoked, and personally hated it when my husband smoked for a time, but pahhhhlease....that was his decision and now it is their decision. I don't get how these people stand to be scrutinized like this. Can people take a step back and get some perspective here. Thank You! Twilight fans are impossible!! I care about them, too...but I realize that I don't know them and they don't care what I think. Believe me...they are perfectly aware of the effects of smoking on the body and don't need a lesson on it. They were on a break...paps took these pictures, invading on their privacy and now everyone wants to give their unwanted opinions on it. People need to worry about their OWN problems...jeez!! I honestly don't care and seriously, people SHOULD give teens a break, just because we see people smoking doesn't mean we would be so stupid as to smoke ourselves, and the same with drugs and alcohol. it's been burned into our brains since the time we're about 6 yrs old by mum and dad and teachers and rlative etc. that it is bad and we shouldn't do it. we also know the consequences VERY well and so that is why actually alot of the teen population choose not to smoke. and btw, i loved the cast when i didn't know they smoked.now everyone hates them because they found out they smoke. they are no different than they were a couple of months ago, who knows? maybe they've been smoking for years but we still loved them. and we should love them now cus they are no different people.

It's true, I feel the same concern you do. Some people might think we're stupid for caring about our Twiligh Saga actors/actresses smoking, but I think that the Saga has the most caring, most passionate fans ever. i agree - they need to think about who they are affecting - younger and younger kids are watching and reading twilight
imagine - i know for a fact that when i was, say, 8 years old, i would see someone that i liked doing something like really new and 'cool' i would immediately do that!

Stephanie Meyer never mentions smoking in her books. Not in Twilight or The Host. Likewise, the movie creators have done a wonderful job keeping it out of the movie. To them I say Thank You.

This, however, had the unfortunate side effect of creating an unrealistic image of these actors because I associate them so strongly with their characters. Upon seeing these images, my fragile suspension of disbelief was hit fairly hard. I wish I'd never seen the pictures.

There's been a positive side to all of it. I'm now a huge fan of Taylor Lautner. That guy is my hero. The more I read about him, the more I'm impressed. I hope he continues to be a shining star, and of course I'm still looking forward to the movie.

i - and many of people that i know - know that it is not cool to smoke

we talked about it in science - like all the consequences and stuff!

we also talked about alcohol so not everyone sees it as cool and even some of the 'cool' kids dont smoke because they know of the consequences

My experience, once BEING a teen and observing teens is that teens in general are impressionable and they'll grow up and become wiser. I'm sorry but I never idolized a celeb so much that I found it necessary to do what they did or didn't do.
The bigger issue is that some paparazzi or crazed fan is taking all these "shocking" pics. They're just human, they drink coffee, eat scones, smoke, drink beer and most likely have bowel movements every day. No one needs to tell them what to do or not do. I'm not saying smoking is good, it's awful! It'll kill them, but, it's their choice. There are worse things in life to worry about, you know?

Well I would hope that people have real life role models and not some Hollywood celebrities that they have never and will never know in reality.

I have a friend who does it and honestly it bothers me especially when she smokes in the car while giving me a ride. She has kids too and that makes me feel for them. Seriously? Patrick Swayze has pancreatic cancer, not lung cancer, and you know what? LOTS of people get cancer whether they smoke or not, I know many unfortunate individuals who have had it or died from it and none of them smoked.

I consider smoking a very disgusting thing....In my family nobody except my grandfather like that and he quit like 5 years ago because he began to have heart problems mainly because of the bad habit and the doctor told him he need to stop is he wanted to be around a few more years...thank goodness he is healthy now...anyway....it is a personal choice to smoke or have other bad habits...I guess they have the right to poison themselves if they want to...but for me is a little disappointing since I'm very against that habit...and like I always say to people who smoke around me...hey! if you want to kill yourself smoking go ahead...but do it far away from me!!!

I really think it's rude of people to say "I don't respect them anymore because they smoke." Whatever their habits are, it does not take away from their work as actors. They do what they want on their free time, and in some ways it is even harder for them (and actors, famous people in general) because people take pictures of them and put them on the internet, in magazines, etc., for everyone to see and to scrutinize.
You can hate smoking, you can hate that they smoke, but the bottom line is, would YOU ever want to be judged for your personal activities? We should still support them - they are bringing our movie to life, and them smoking is not going to take away from it.

I agree it is there life but I don't want to see what is going on with someone like Patrick Swayza happen to any of them and if the fans really care about these actors (weather they care if they smoke or not) maybe we should do something to show we care like send carepackages full of nicotine patches and gums or dedicate the tabacco commercials to them on youtube,myspace,facebook, ect.... just a suggestion anyways love the movie and the actors can't wait for the other movies and the dvd .

I do care if they smoke. I know thats their privacy, but i dont think they should be smoking if their fans (12 + years) are seeing this. It makes me embarrased to call myself a fan. I dont want to tell my friends " oh Robert is a great guy, but he's a bad influence cause he smokes." Thank You! Twilight fans are impossible!! I care about them, too...but I realize that I don't know them and they don't care what I think. Believe me...they are perfectly aware of the effects of smoking on the body and don't need a lesson on it. THANK YOU! That is exactly what we were talking about today at work. There is much, much more censorship today than there was "back in the day." Now if there is smoking in movies . . . they have to be rated up. It is the same with drinking . . . it just isn't allowed like it used to be.

Yes its there lives and they choose to do what they want with it, but as a genuine fan of the cast, looking beyond the superficial of (who's hawt, who's sexy, etc...) I voice my opinion against this unhealthy habbit because I care about them, not saying others dont. But if you look beyond the superficial, they are people who are stressed, lonely, etc and therefore sometimes succum to bad habits for relieve. As fans, who care, we should not be saying leave them alone, we should let them know that we genuinely care about them and maybe, just maybe, it might just influence their choices knowing that they really have TRUE fans that care.

Honestly, if we are saying they are smoking to relieve stress, I can assure you that they are doing alot more than smoking and its just sad. Kristen has publicly smoked pot, and Rob just admitted to taking valium to calm down. It starts as simply as that, and before you know it, they are using strong things...not everyone gets to walk away from or recover from.

I do not want to see any of these cast members, especially Rob who I think has the potential to become another "Johnnny Depp" end up being another hollywood tragedy "Heath Ledger" (accidential overdose)...he was also stressed and loney.

It's true, I feel the same concern you do. Some people might think we're stupid for caring about our Twiligh Saga actors/actresses smoking, but I think that the Saga has the most caring, most passionate fans ever. You know yes, it's their life and thier decisions and who knows how we could influence thier decisions, but I just truly hope that they're not like, addicted to that stuff and nothing bad happens to them!

I do not smoke, never have. Although I am not a fan of the smell of cig smoke and it is an unhealthy habit, I do agree that it is their business whether or not they smoke. Yes, young people look up to them as role models but the teachings and examples should start at HOME anyway. Parents should be the most important role model for their kids. So seriously, with all that is going on in the world (Chris Brown anyone???) this is a small issue, dont you think? Leave them alone and let them work!

The fact of the matter is that they are adults. They are at work . . . and if they choose to smoke on their break from working, that's their business.

And honestly, if a teenager is going to choose to smoke (just like drinking or doing drugs) . . . it isn't going to be because their favorite actor/s are doing it. I was a teen in the early 90's and smoking was all over the place still. I had friends who smoked. My real father smoked. I saw actors smoke. But I still chose not to smoke. My younger sister on the other hand did smoke (she smoked for 10yrs before quitting). There is absolutely no reason to try to "blame" these actors for the POSSIBILITY of teens choosing to smoke.

Seriously, they have enough pressure on them from all of US . . . the fans who expect nothing less than perfection when it comes to translating our favorite books to screen. Everyone really needs to lay off what they are doing during their "down-time."

I have to disagree. Actors, celebs, public figures . . . they've been around for a long time. Magazines have been around for a long time. TV has been around for a long time. Movies have been around for a long time. You can't just say "in this day and age" because it isn't JUST "this day and age." Like I said, when I was a teen it was all around . . . and I chose not to do it.

My 18yr old step-son went through a brief period this year when he was drinking and smoking pot . . . we didn't blame the freaking media or anyone else for that matter. He had been educated in the dangers of it and HE CHOSE to do it. His choices had consequences . . . everyone needs to chill out.

It is more influencial now, than it was back in say the 90's. I'm not saying to blame the media for issues with youngsters, I'm saying they do play apart and a huge part in that influence. I cannot tell you how many teenagers who have issues with what they look like, how they act, what they do are influenced not only by peer pressure, and family life, but also by the media portraying to them how they should be, etc...

Except stars use to smoke on shows like Jonny Carsona. It was
perfectly ok for a star to smoke through their entire interview until
the mid 80's. So I think there is more smokeing Censorship today
than there was say 30 years ago. Even the amout of people
smoking in a movie is reduced in todays new releases. Just watch
something from the Golden Era of movies.

we talked about it in science - like all the consequences and stuff!
we also talked about alcohol so not everyone sees it as cool and even some of the 'cool' kids dont smoke because they know of the consequences

I really think it's rude of people to say "I don't respect them anymore because they smoke." Whatever their habits are, it does not take away from their work as actors. They do what they want on their free time, and in some ways it is even harder for them (and actors, famous people in general) because people take pictures of them and put them on the internet, in magazines, etc., for everyone to see and to scrutinize.
You can hate smoking, you can hate that they smoke, but the bottom line is, would YOU ever want to be judged for your personal activities? We should still support them - they are bringing our movie to life, and them smoking is not going to take away from it.

I do care if they smoke. I know thats their privacy, but i dont think they should be smoking if their fans (12 + years) are seeing this. It makes me embarrased to call myself a fan. Yes its there lives and they choose to do what they want with it, but as a genuine fan of the cast, looking beyond the superficial of (who's hawt, who's sexy, etc...) I voice my opinion against this unhealthy habbit because I care about them, not saying others dont. But if you look beyond the superficial, they are people who are stressed, lonely, etc and therefore sometimes succum to bad habits for relieve. As fans, who care, we should not be saying leave them alone, we should let them know that we genuinely care about them and maybe, just maybe, it might just influence their choices knowing that they really have TRUE fans that care.

As usual I agree with everything you say, my parents both smoke and me and my sister dont, and never have even tried. The fact of the matter is that they are adults. They are at work . . . and if they choose to smoke on their break from working, that's their business.


And honestly, if a teenager is going to choose to smoke (just like drinking or doing drugs) . . . it isn't going to be because their favorite actor/s are doing it. I was a teen in the early 90's and smoking was all over the place still. I had friends who smoked. My real father smoked. I saw actors smoke. But I still chose not to smoke. My younger sister on the other hand did smoke (she smoked for 10yrs before quitting). There is absolutely no reason to try to "blame" these actors for the POSSIBILITY of teens choosing to smoke.



Seriously, they have enough pressure on them from all of US . . . the fans who expect nothing less than perfection when it comes to translating our favorite books to screen. Everyone really needs to lay off what they are doing during their "down-time."

Really bad habit to kick but it's there choice so I don't see why it should be a big deal, ok yes might not look good role model type behaviour for all the younger fans but they do present themselves well in the public eye and are pretty discreet about it. well i think anyway lol!

OK I'm starting to get pee'd off with all this. When pictures are taken off the cast it is probably whilst they are on a break form whatever they are doing, which brings to the point THEY ARE OUTSIDE FREEZING THEIR ASSES OFF BECAUSE IT'S BANNED FROM SMOKING INDOORS!!!!!!!!!!! Which is the only time the good damn pap's get their photo opportunities, Why does everything these people do get scrutinised over and over again, it's THEIR business what they do and NOBODY ELSES!

its a terribly nasty habit!!! they shouldn't smoke at all, that including the younger audiences watching. it sets a bad example...haven't they seen the NO SMOKING commercials. My favorite one is the one when they say "women prefer to have smaller babies" oh and the one that says that cigarettes have the same ingredients as rat poison.
seriously, the whole excuse for blaming smoking on "stress" is dumb. what is yoga for??? i know that we love the cast, but this is no reason to excuse that behavior, and im saying this not to be a hater, but because i care if they have lung cancer or not! I care if they live or dye!!! and i dont want taylor to follow up!!! ITS THEIR LIFE and i get it, do what ever u want, but the ones that are around them and the smoke get it worse. ask me!!! my grandpa used to smoke since he was 13 and thanks to him, my little brother and i have ASMA. he just quited at 70 years old and the coughing never stops not to mention the bad conditions his lungs are in.

I have smoked and not smoked. Currently, not smoking now. But I enjoyed it, it was good. Leave them alone, its their lives, not yours. It is not our responsibility to inflict our thoughts on what they should do. Ha, maybe if they smoke enough it will keep people away from the set. I never thought of smoking as a nasty habit. Hmmm. It used to be considered sexy and 9 out of 10 doctors preferred Kools. LOL. Just depends on what time frame you are in, I think.

I agree that it is their life and they can do what they want, but at the same time it is a nasty habit and I would not want to be around that set if its a big smoke cloud.

Ok First Off You Have To See From All Angles... Yes Smoking Is A Nasty Habit.. I Speak From Self Experience..Luckily I've Quit.. Anyways..... But You Have To Realize There Are Many Reasons For Picking Up That Habit...Primarily Once Of Them Being Stress Or Nerves. You Must Remember These People Are Under A Tremendous Amount oF Pressure! They Realize What's To Be Expected Of Them.. WIth All The Fans... And They Know That They Must Deliver Nothing But The Best. Granted That There Are Other Forms Of Stress Relieve, But Hey Cut Them Some Slack They Are Doing Their Best. We Are No One To Judge! Let's Just Extend Out Support To Them As Loyal Fans And Not Dwell On Petty Details Such As How They Spend Their Recreational Time In Between Takes.
