Twilight DVD Sells 3 Million Copies on First Day

Twilight DVD Money On its first day of release, the Twilight DVD sold 3 million copies, making it onto the list of the top five selling DVDs of the last two years. MTV has this to say–

“Breaking Dawn” sold 1.3 million copies on just one memorable day. The movie adaptation of “Twilight” had a $70 million opening weekend in November. Now the juggernaut that is Stephenie Meyer’s vampire romance franchise has continued its dizzying streak of commercial hits with the film selling more than 3 million DVDs on the first day of its release, according to distributor Summit Entertainment.
In Salt Lake City, 2,500 devotees braved lines, while 2,000 attended in Los Angeles and 700 showed up in New York. Several “Twilight” actors made appearances at the events, including Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen), Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale), Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) and Edi Gathegi (Laurent). Director Catherine Hardwicke held court in Dallas, even though she will not be helming the next film in the series, “New Moon.” Not in attendance, however, were the film’s biggest stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

I actually convinced my non-twilighter girlfriend to go to Borders party with me and she did...nothing special happened, but it was still fun. I was the last in line to get my copy of the Borders special edition. :) I'm still waiting on my target 3-disc copy that I pre-ordered and should recieve today...all that, and I didnt even like the movie, but now, It's growing on me. :)

I was waiting for this info to be posted for the last couple of days. It amazes me how many copies were sold. I am glad the movie is getting the support it needs. However I think it is really crummy that the main stars didnt even bother to go to a signing. Oh well...I am happy that I have my copy...however I waited to get it at best buy Saturday morning when it was calm and no lines =P.

From what I could tell the main actors didn't make any appearances because they were filming New Moon. Remember it has to be ready for this fall. I'm all for them filming and getting it done right! I can't wait!

I hope with the amount of success this turns out to be that they will film Breaking Dawn! crossing fingers!

It is growing on me too. Sat night was only the 2nd time I'd seen it. I was so dissappointed when I left the theater. When I saw it in the theater I hadn't finished Eclipse yet or read Midnight Sun. I think that reading all of them and especially reading Midnight Sun helps. Midnight Sun fills in alot of holes. Maybe, it's just my excuse to try to overlook the poor screenwrite and direction.

At least we have New Moon to look forward to. Wow! These sales are going to open alot of eyes to New Moon. I love how the fan base is growing. The more obessed people there are, the less pathetic I look! LOL.

I understand filming. Like you...I am all up for that. But I think they couldve spared a night or something. But o well...no big =).

As for Breaking Dawn...I hope they do it...but I want to know how well they will do it. I mean think about how hard it will be for them to find someone to play Renesmee...or film the birthing scene...etc.

I had already read all of them before seeing the movie, including Midnight Sun...and still hated the movie, but now that i own it, watch it on my own time, its definately growing on me...Also, I totally agree with you, It makes me feel less pathetic when more and more people become as obsessed as I am. LOL

I think it's time Summit gave something back to the fans that are lining their pockets with are hard earned cash. We are going through tough times and in a worldwide recession and I think it shows how much support and love the fans give to everything Twilight by putting together money to buy cinema tickets and DVD'S etc! Even a competition to let a fan and some friends enjoy a day on set would be amazing with hardly any cost to summit at all. I just think it would be nice for Summit to show how much they cared about the fans. After all it's "us" who are keeping this all going!

Yay! Hope it gets LOADS more money! I'm so happy. Everyone (the actors, screen writers, the author etc) deserve all the money.
Sadly.. I will get my DVD in May! OME, I can't wait that long.. But there's nothing I can do. I live in Europe.

Wow...that's amazing. I had a feeling that a bunch of dvds would be sold on release day. I went to a midnight release in the small town I live in and our population is about 100,000+ and there was a line out the door at 3 different places in the same city....Border's was ridiculous though when it came to their release. Freakin' idiots....I can't wait though to see New Moon, Eclipse, and hopefully sometime in the soon future Breaking Dawn. Awesomeness!!!!

I can say I am one proud Twilighter!!!! GO US!!!!!!!!!! Good job fans!!!

firstly this betters even "the dark night" which also sold 3 million first day but that included the UK as well as US and canada! AMAZING! secondly i was very curious to read fans saying how they hated the film first time around! i had HUGE expectations for the movie too but didnt know about it all and the books b4.. i was also a little let down after such high expectations but after seeing it a second time at cinema i LOVED IT! its just a film that grows on you with repeat viewing which is a great thing. so i would recommend seeing twilight 2 or 3 times to anyone who just dosnt quite get it first time."and as for "breaking dawn"... well i hope its split into 2 films making 5 in total.... and the effects should be done by walnut media who did Lord of the rings. they are so much better than ILM!!!
