Alexandre Desplat, not Carter Burwell, Set to Score New Moon

by Will on April 16, 2009 · Comments

in New Moon Soundtrack

200904162013.jpg Carter Burwell, the talent behind the original soundtrack for Twilight, will not be composing the score for New Moon. Instead, Alexandre Desplat, who wrote the soundtrack for New Moon director Chris Weitz’s earlier film The Golden Compass, is most likely at the helm. This news comes from the website of Carter Burwell, stating

As I understand it, the director of New Moon, Chris Weitz, has hired Alexandre Desplat to composer the music for the film. Desplat composed the music for Weitz’ earlier film The Golden Compass. I don’t know if they’ll use any of my themes from Twilight, such as “Bella’s Lullaby”.

[thanks, Aimée!]

Okay those who are doubting Alexandre Desplat have GOT to listen to his music scores fr films like "The Painted Veil", "Birth" and "Lust, Caution" and trust me, it's a HUGE honor to have a 2 time Oscar nominated composer like Desplat to be involved with New Moon.

Carter Burwell works wonderful for films by the Coen Brothers but his scores for Twilight was a let down for me. Edward has lived over 100 years and is known to be "unbelievably perfect", with the biggest music collection and creates absolutely beautiful and jaw dropping compositions since he's a gifted musical. Then I hear the composition of "Bella's Lullaby" and I was extremely disappointed because they could've made the piece more elaborate and "majestic" to the listeners.

Alexandre might incorporate some of Burwell's notes and keep the lullaby piece or he could create his own version or not include the lullaby.
  • Darn, they HAVE to put Bella's Lullaby in it. It has such a major role in all the books. And Edward gave bella the cd with Bella's lullaby in it.
  • I LUV EC
I really LOVE this score but it makes sense to change it cuz the same songs in the sequel would not be right but they HAVE TO KEEP bella's lullaby its the nicest song in the world gosh i love it. Im sad that Carter Burwell cant make a new score for new moon cuz hes awesome
  • Stefania Cullen
i just got to say the Movie is awsome the books are even better but the Lullaby was fucked up!!! i mean half of my friends didnt readthe book and they didnt understand that the song was her Lullaby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i mean come on!!! .....i rather hear Robs version!!!!
  • juliet
oh man! the score of twilight by burwell was one of the main reason why i love this movie! i hope this new guy can match.
  • .TF09.
Yee!! Alexandre Desplat is an amazing composer!! He composed all the scores for the Curious Case of Benjamin Button <3 I think he will do an amazing job for New Moon!! Carter Burwell was good for Twilight, but I think the music could have been better...Especially Bella's Lullaby- I hated it in the movie. It didn't even make sense....why was there an orchestra playing??? WTF. Come on... lol Go Alexandre Desplat!
  • Well that sorta sucks. I love the score! Listen to it often actually, but I have Twifaith in Chris. I will see come November if it was a wise choice.
  • Starlight
First, Forks, WA isn't being used as the main setting (which sucks) now they aren't using Carter Burwell. I think that if they don't use Carter Burwell's themes especailly for Bella's Lullaby, it WILL break this movie. Bella's Lullaby flows all through the music in Twilight. Dasplat better use some of Burwell's theme. Although I would just rather see Carter Burwell just right the music, since he did such a FANTASTIC job on Twilight, it's going to be hard to beat.
  • Marti (Team The Runaways)
    noo, I love Carter!
but ok, music from "Girl With a Pearl Earring" was good, so I hope that music in NM will be great.
  • Everyone might hate me for this, but I'm so glad they aren't using the guy who did the scoring for the Twilight film...a lot of the music in that film stuck out like a sore thumb. Music is supposed to heighten and lend itself to the scene, not distract from it.
  • HannaBeth
ah no way i love carter
  • laura
It's a good new !! I like a lot Alexandre Desplat, he's really gifted ! He composed Afterward's musics which are wonderful...!
  • mandy14
Alexandre Desplat is a French composer who's got a long history in in scoring films, you can check out this unoficial site here
    http://desplat.free.fr/
    in french or in English
  • Juju
    How exciting.
I can't wait to see what he comes up with and what spin he ads to Bella's lullaby.
  • alice
i just think that there is abig mistake gte carter and like rob and 100 monkeys to be on that soundtrack cause honestly if you want the truth the music wasnt really noticable in the golden compass sorry but i should just say as some friendly advice listen to your fans they know best and the cast
  • Rob should sing/compose some songs, and 100 Monkeys shoul have a song in there. Kristen & Rob could maybe even duet, Kristed isnt a bad singer.
  • Rob Pattinson's Version of Bella's Lullaby off the dvd:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGJPnCPZUto

Rob should compose the soundtrack lol
  • isazzy
To all of you who won't go see the movie if Bella's lullaby isn't in there, be my guest! Twilight the movie did NOTHING to explain that the piece Edward was playing was composed for Bella. Edward could have just been playing the piano.

I personally hope they do a NEW lullaby, one that is sweet and piano only that Edward will hum to Bella when she goes to sleep. It could be his birthday gift to her, it would TOTALLY fit in the story line (no matter what y'all say). It could eb the CD with a song he composed for her. NOBODY would remember or care about the old Bella's lullaby. I wouldn't.
  • ejaz
I'm trying to keep an open mind about New Moon, the movie. I've reread the book 3 times and with each reading it gets darker. If it is made into Twilight '2', I would be disappointed. It cannot and must not have the same dreamy romantic pace as Twilight in order to stay true to S.Meyer's story. We have to be able to feel for Bella and Jacob, even if one is Team Edward! One must feel that Edward had abandoned Bella even tho' we all know how the story turns out in the end. That will be the biggest challenge for the director and getting a different musical director is crucial because New Moon must have a different mood altogether. Imagine the challenge of putting together the music...so many emotions to underscore...confusion, anger, fear, depression, hope, friendship, agony, triumph and above all, undying love! I'm sure the Volturi will have their own theme...I'm already hearing haunting violins!!. Casting choices so far are impressive so I for one am expecting great things come November!
  • sasstwi
Good. honestly, I didn't like Bella's lullaby. Hope they do a better one!
  • mana_liz
Where can I hear Rob's version of "Bella's Lullaby"
  • pattinsonplayshopscotch
There is no "Rob" version, I don't think. The song everyone's referring to is "River Flows in You" by Yiruma. It is really beautiful, and should have made the real lullaby track.
  • alice
well its called edwards piano concert but its really just rob fooling around on the piano i think but gd stuff
  • Renee
I'm disappointed. I like the score more than I do the songs they chose for soundtrack.
  • I DON'T LIKE CHANGES.
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
I'm not really familiar w/ this guy, but I hope that he truly puts TONZ of emotion into NM!! I liked Carter's score and we'll just have to see how Alexandre does... yay how exciting =]
  • Sarah
A new composer...that's a little iffy, don't you think? It's not as if they can just change Bella's Lullaby...
  • That's sad... I kind of enjoyed the score. Bella's Lullaby is beautiful...
  • TwilightRobGirl
So, I have faith in Chris and am pleased with what's been done so far. In terms of the music, I think Bella's Lullaby must stay the same- but perhaps piano only- as it was written in the book. Like others have said, the Lullaby is a key componet of Edward and Bella's love story and is included in each book . How disappointing that in the movie, it was never explained to the non-readers-, but shame on them for being non-readers!

My biggest hope is that Rob is included on the soundtrack. His work is amazing. I can't stop listening to "I Was Broken." I think it would be totally appropriate for the New Moon soundtrack and "I'll Be Your Lover, Too" would be fabulous for Eclipse. His voice is so captivating; I can't get enough.
  • Cathy
I love the music Carter did for Twilight. I don't usually pay too much attention to movie scores, but his was so beautiful and fit so perfectly with every scene in the film. I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than him. Oh well, I'll try to be open minded.
  • It just wont be the same

    --

    "I murder someone"
  • I will refuse to watch the movie if Bella's Lullaby isn't in there!
  • Laura
as long as they keep bellas lullaby then im happy, im sur the music will be awesome again!!
    they no what there doing!
Carter was awesome but im sur alexandre will be just as awesome
  • MistyFrost
That really blows, Carter Burwell is an amazing artist. For those who don't know his work, you should check out his website, you're sure to have at least a handful of movies on your shelf that he scored. No doubt it will all turn out great in the end, I just love the melancholy and emotional dichotomy that Burwell is able to deliver.
  • pale_cold1
I agree with you...and just to clarify my reasons for disappointment, if you watch the Extras on the movie DVD, you will hear how Bella's Lullaby was sort of the theme that runs throughout the movie for Bella and Edward. To me, it would be like not having "Hedwig's Theme" in each Harry Potter movie--we all know what that theme sounds like. That's what Bella's Theme/Lullaby is to me. What Edward plays on the piano as she listens is the "Lullaby" in my mind now, too. I know these things happen when production teams change (i.e. the HP movies), but I sincerely hope they keep some part of that Lullaby.
  • Daniela23
You have a point there about "Hedwig's Theme".
They can do it like in Harry Potter, how many composers they had? Two or three? But the original theme was always there, with some changes but it sounds almost the same.
I don't think they'll change completely music in NM. Of course there will be something totally new for Bella and Jacob time.
Alexandre Desplat can improve Bella's lullaby, add something to it to make it fresh and new, but the core of the song can stay the same so we can recognize it.
I personally loved it, but I wouldn't mind if he made it more comlex and voluminous.
  • kathleeen
I hope your right, I loved Bellas lullaby and i really hope they keep it in the rest of the saga
  • MistyFrost
The piece was so striking to me that it emotionally explained the relationship in a way that words couldn't. It sparked my interest and so I looked on Burwell's site and the story behind the composition explains the personal inspiration from which it originated. It was no surprise then to find that it was a very personal piece, from the depths of his soul to his soul mate. This "love theme" throughout the movie. is very defining, a masterful, very beautiful struggle that encompassed the entire story in all four books. I really don't see how they can stray from that, so no worries, I'm sure Summit will put the smack down, if not Steph will!
  • Julianne
Bummer! I loved what he did with Twilight's score and am not sure someone else could continue that feel well enough. I hope they'll be smart enough to stick with some continuity.
  • Lis
    Wow...

A better director, better cast, (don't get me wrong I love the Twilight cast but you know what I mean,) better composer...

New Moon is being WAY upgraded from Twilight...Chris is beyond awesomeness...
  • ya i belive it will be deff upgraded from twilight....soooo excited for new moon
  • meemomoo
I have all the faith in the world that if Chris felt Carter would do a better job than Alexandre than Carter would be scoring New Moon. Maybe Chris and Alexandre connect on another level, maybe Carter had somewhere else to be, maybe they rock-paper-scissored. At the end of the day, I feel that Chris has done nothing but improve on something I already love and fully believe that he will make a movie 10 times (or maybe 7 and a half times, I don't know) better than Twilight. DO YOUR THING CHRIS AND ALEXANDRE, I'VE GOT YOUR BACK!!
  • i think carter should do the new moon sound track cuz who knows how it should feel
    cuz he did twilight already
  • Rheanna
I got my wish! I love Alexandre is finally on board. I really wanted him to compose for Twilight. If you all haven't heard "river waltz" from The Painted Veil the you should! All his albums are so beautiful!
    Wooo
  • i wish carter did it or at least keep bellas lullaby i mean they cant just change it u know
  • thank, GOD. Twilight's score was probably the biggest disappointment for me. I had really high hopes, and while Carter's wasn't terrible, it just didn't seem right. I feel like Twilight had the potential for a beautiful score and it just wasn't met. D:
  • AHMONIQUED;
I love Carter Burwell's music. I think did a terrific job in Twilight, he has amazing pieces that set the mood in the movie perfectly. I wish the kept him, but you never know Alexandre Desplat may do a great job. --xo
  • MrsSpunkRansom
Ughh, that sucks that Burwell isn't doing the compositions. He is seriously talented and I LOVED the score.

The new guy better be good, or else the fans are going to be pretty disappointed. Weitz should of kept him, but maybe the change will be good. (I think.)

Also, hopefully, they include "Bella's Lullaby" when she got the CD from Edward, the flashbacks, going to sleep, etc.
  • Emma
    aww man. I like carter!
well i guess a change is needed since its a different movie. so different sound, ya know.
  • Dee
I love Carter Burwell and his music is so recognizable. I've been watching all the forums waiting to see if they would post something about the composer and I am so disappointed. The feel of the movie is so tied to the score, to me almost as much as the actors and actresses. I hope that the "feel" will be a change for the better but I usually hate change. I agree that there were things that could have been done a little better in the first movie and if they had any clue what a huge deal it was going to be, maybe things would have been better. I don't think the score could have been better though and I HATE that it will be a different composer.
  • MistyFrost
I am so with you on that!!! Bella's lullaby was such an emotionally deep piece of music, I was not surprised by the story behind the composition. He really set the tone of the entire film and I hope it doesn't lose that feeling.
  • MarcelaN
I'm fine with the change... I was so incredibly disappointed in the first movie that changes, to some degree, are very welcome.
  • Barbie
I'm so put out that Carter isn't doing New Moon. His work helped make Twilight what it is now, BIG! Carter, know your music is simply wonderful! It is greatly appreciated and very much loved by at least this fan!!

I don't know what to expect from 'Golden Compass Boy's' music ... Why doesn't Mr. Wietz just higher everyone back from Golden Compass to play in New Moon while he's at it? Good luck with it anyway. I'm a little disappointed.
  • EITAC
i'm sure the new composer will keep the essentials such as bellas lullaby...and for everyone thats saying they were dissapointed with her lullaby i sort of agree but i think we all were just expecting it to be sooo ridiculously amazing that nothing could have lived up to our high expectaions. yes the entire orchestra was unnecessary however not everyone would have liked it no matter what they did with it.
  • keekster08
as much as i grew to love the soundtrack, i first thought that it could be alot better...especially bella's lullaby. i'm looking forward to hearing a different take.
  • TwilightFan
    awww.....
    taht sucks...
oh well! i really hope they stick with bella's lullaby tough :)
atht is all taht matters. and that new compuser dude. he better do a great job!!!
    >:D
  • Fellow Twilighters - have no fear! Have Chris or Summit disappointed us yet? Especially in the casting? They are doing a fantastic job and we have to trust them. This movie is going to blow our minds...

BTW - I loved the music score in The Golden Compass.
  • Maxii
Yeah but The Golden Compass sorta failed on the whole. It made like no money so they couldn't make a sequel. I really really hope that New Moon doesn't end up like that.
  • Very true...I think the root reason that Golden Compass failed though is because it tread a little too close to religion and Hollywood and religion go together like oil and water. If they had called those little animal spirits anything but 'daemons' it probably would have been fine.

Besides, New Moon is backed and supported by millions of adoring fans...no worries.
  • Maxii
OMGosh! I absolutelty adore Carter Burwells music :(
Its such a shame, he composed some great stuff!
  • Woofie
I think everyone should calm down. Twilight fans tend to be incredibly bipolar in their reactions to things. Catherine doesn't helm New Moon, everyone freaks out about how this is the worst news in the world, nevermind the fact that most shows, even sagas, have several directors over time. They hate Chris. They hate everything. He's a man and no man can understand the intensity of love. However, if that belief were true, we'd have to fire all of the male cast of Twilight, including Rob, since as a male, he doesn't understand love either. Chris goes out of his way, writes a letter to the fans, people slowly warm to him and now he's the best thing ever.

Then the cast gets announced. Again, bipolar reactions. Dakota is good! Dakota will bring down the whole show! Chris is "ruining everything! Letting us down! Boo!" Then Dakota gets the part, people slowly warm to her. Now she is the only Jane ever. Just yesterday when the cast list was announced, everyone was screaming with joy over how wonderful Chris was, he was the best, and now because there is a new composer he sucks.

I'm sure the composer will understand a score has already been written. He may borrow themes. He may not. But I'm sure once people hear the excerpts of different music, the whole bipolar thing will swing again and everyone will love him, best composer ever, and then when he's not chosen to helm the score of Eclipse everyone will freak out again.

I loved the score of Twilight, I loved the movie. I liked Bella's Lullaby, because you can hum it. Songs on the radio you hum, right? Even though there is more than one instrument playing the song? A movie score, especially a scene where the lullaby was used, is going to have to be fuller with accompaniment then just a piano. The song actually builds in emotion as it plays, so in that way, it's very fitting for Edward's love of Bella.
  • RustyHalo
Thank you Woofie! Could not have said it any better. Well put and very true! =)
  • Daniela23
Haha I was thinking about that when everyone was saying that a man can't capture their love the right way and that he wouldn't pay enough attention to it.
But the thing is most of directors are males, it's sad but it's true and some of the most heartbraking movies out there about true love were directed my male directors. I never understood where that "a man can't understand true love" came from haha.

About the score. Yeah, I think he won't go too much in different direction, as I said above they can to it as in Harry Potter movies, they changed composers but the original theme was there. So Bella's lullaby can be used, and every composer can just add something to it to make it better.
  • meemomoo
    Well put my friend.
  • pattinsonplayshopscotch
Too right Woofie. Couldn't have said it better myself. :)
  • nemesis_CarolinaCullenCoven!nH
agree!! i think they'll keep the sequence somehow... don't worry that's girls' nature haha :D, we make life more interesting....
  • Destined
Amen Woofie! My thoughts exactly. People really need to get a grip. Yall make it to easy for people like Lainey and Twilight haters in general. Be more positive and continue being supportive for Chris and all the great things he is bringing to an incredible series.
  • Twilightchick
I am not opposed to another composer but I can't see them changing Bella's lullaby that would just wrong. I love that song. It is a major part of the story.
  • team-jakward!
    * just the piano. *
  • I agree. When I heard it, I was like, "Edward doesn't have the Cullens in the background playing violins and the cello!" 'Bella's Lullaby' would be much better played with simply the piano. However, the more I have watched the movie, the more I like the lullaby. I hope he at least keeps the melody of the lullaby, but records it using the piano only. How great would it be if Rob recorded it for the soundtrack?!?! I am so bummed that he's saying he doesn't want to do any music for 'New Moon.' Sad! Ok....I'm done now. This comment is longer then I meant it to be! :)
  • team-jakward!
If "Bella's Lullaby" is changed into what it was supposed to be in Twilight then i think the book fans while get a greater feel for it during the movie. But the movie fans probably woulnt notice the change becuase of the lack of attention paid to the small details. In the book, the lullaby is something that shows the growing love of Edward and Bella, it puts his feelings into music and shows how at the begining how he started off calmly in life, but when he meet Bella, his life hit the climax or the highest note in his life. It's hummed, played, and resited to Bella through out the enitire saga and not showing the impact it has is truly taking the love away from the story and the main idea of it. It's like taking the heart and soul out of Edward and replacing with a beating box. The Twilight version was good, I'll admit that, but change it to the way it's supposed to be.... Please?
  • THANK YOU!

    nuff said
  • meemomoo
I third that! Glad to see I'm not alone in thinking a little improvement would be a welcomed change
  • twilover
Well put!! I second that! I think we would all appreciate it more if it became what it should have been in the first place. It lost its meaning in the first movie! I trust Chris wholeheartedly!!!!
  • Sparkles
I liked Carter Burwells stuff for Twilight. But I absolutely hated "Bellas Lullaby". It just didnt work with what was described in the book. I read the notes on the lullaby and he started out with a melody he wrote when he was heartbroken. WHAT?! that should be an instant red flag dont you think?
  • amoore
oh what were they thinking. I am very disappointed that they wont be having carter burwell do the score. his music truely brought the story to life, it fit perfectly. it is such a shame that Chris Weitz didn't keep with burwell. if the music changes the whole feeling of the movie will be completely different. :( so sad.
  • Dejajeva
I think this is a great idea.
  • they have to keep the lullaby that is already stated has to be on all the movies, although I would let Rob´s version from the beginning I liked that one better simple only piano and with a lot of feeling
  • AQUA
maddie i agree with you i like robs vertion wawy better and its sumthing he can hum to bella for her to sleep like in the books
  • AQUA
ummmm i think its essential i mean its talked about in every book it will be interesting to c what the new guy for the music will come up with i liked the one in twilight but it wasnt something edward can hum at to bella to go to sleep you know what i mean its really importand to lets c thatz all we can do :P
  • Nessa
Bella Lullaby has to be in, but i think Burwell version was little to orchestral, i mean i know is a movie and need some extra, but it was not how i imagine the lullaby in the books, solo piano will be better :P
  • newmoon_897
ummm, there grammer was really off in that little excerpt, anyways, OH NO! carter burwell did a fabulous job with twilight, i think they should keep him so they can just work off of whatever he already composed. well see how it goes, i need to hear alittle bit of this guys compositions before i can judge though :\
  • newmoon_897
    haha *grammar
  • i love rob
Totally off subject....but I found this great article about How To Be....just thought I'd share!!!!

    http://www.robsessedpattinson.com/2009/04/drunk...
  • AWW!!!!!!THEY BETTER PUT BALLAS LULLABY ITS MY FAVORITE
AND IT IS IN ALL THE BOOKS
ONCE AGAIN HOPE THEY PUT BELLAS LULLABY
    **IS REALLi WORRIED**
  • brandie
I love Alexandre Desplat! He did the score for Benjamin Button and I absolutely adore it. I think he'll do a great job with New Moon.
  • caroline
I think Bella's lullaby will probably stay in. The different Harry Potter movies have different composers, but they always find a way to weave the signature Harry Potter theme in.
  • Maddie
what the hell... they better not butcher it. that will be so upsetting... bella's lullaby was one of the main songs played throughout the entire movie.. there needs to be some sort of resemblance to the mood of twilight
  • Guest
Bella's lullaby is in every book they have to have it. maybe they will work together.
  • i love rob
Vote on MTV.com everything that is Twilight!!!!

    http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2009/catego...

We want to make sure Twilight is nominated in all categories!!!!
  • I was disappointed with Bella's Lullaby in Twilight, when I heard this version I cried my eyes out, I still do every time I hear it, I said from the second I heard it that if I ever find a man brave enough to marry me this would be the composition I walk down the aisle to....Let me know what you think, and have a tissue at hand! LOL

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQME-ChSwNM

PS if you like it, you can download it on iTunes as Bella's Lullaby-Piano Version! I have it on my faithful old friend iPod LOL
  • i love rob
I just listened to it.....it is beautiful!!!!

I'm totally a rock chick....but I can so appreciate this type of music! It love how it has such feeling....you can close your eyes and know the emotion behind it!!!

Thank you so much for sharing that! And I hope you had a fabulous birthday!!!!

Have fun at the zoo tomorrow!!!!
  • it is really pretty thanks for posting it deedee81 it was really wonderful
  • i love rob
I'm gonna have to wait until I get home tonite to listen to it!!! I'm at work :(
  • already voted for twilight i hope they win everything they r nominated for :D
  • leslie
NO! No no no no no!
    Big mistake, Chris Weitz!
Carter Burwell's score is amazing. It fits the movie exceptionally well.
This new composer BETTER NOT change the themes from Twilight. When there are movies in a series, they need to have continuing musical themes throughout the series. Otherwise it just sounds broken up and not coherent and just plain stupid!
  • dani
I prefered Rob's version to Bella's lullaby to Carter Burwell's. PLEASE let them have Rob make a song as beautiful and as magical as the one he did in Edward's piano concert? that was definitely something he could have hummed to Bella while she sleeps. I love it.
  • jenny
I really like Carter Burwell's songs and I really liked the lullaby.
I listened to some of Alexandre Desplat's songs on itunes and I think they are great,
but don't think they are really that good as Carter's. With Desplat's songs you listen to it and
it doesn't stay in your memory like I think the songs on twilight did.
  • They better use 'Bella's Lullaby!' It's essential to have to show the love between Edward and Bella! I like the music in 'Twilight.' This new guy has a lot to live up to!
  • pauline76
    they will!
  • I hope so! Did you see Woofie's comment below? Geez...they need to calm down! True 'Twilight' fans will show support. :)
  • Tiffani
MAN AM I PISSED!! I LOVE THE SCORE TO TWILIGHT..
WHEN YOU LISTIEN TO THE CD YOU PICTURE AND FEEL FORKS, THE CULLENS, THE HUMANS, AND BELLA. WITHOUT HIM I WOULDN'T BE THE SAME.
I WANT TO FEL THAT IN THE SCORE FOR NEW MOON.
    THEY NEED TO SERIOUSLY RECONSIDER.
  • leslie
    I COMPLETELY agree.
  • rukiafae
Since i personally did not like the score in the first movie (honestly, there was little about the movie I DID like) I am looking forward to seeing what this composer has to offer for New Moon!
  • Njeri
How can you not use Bellas Lullaby, its apart of the story, he sings it to her through out the series
  • i love rob
I have to admit....Carter did an excellent job with the music in Twilight!!!! I'm sad that he doesn't get to do it again. But I have my fingers crossed that the soundtrack for New Moon will be just as incredible!!!!
  • Samantha
I think this is great! I mean, i loved Carter Burwell, i think he did a fantastic job with the Twilight soundtrack, but Alexandre Desplat has done some amazing stuff! He not only did Weitz's Golden Compass, he's done the soundtracks for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Painted Veil, Girl with A Pearl Earing, and the Queen. Go to itunes and listen to some of the samples of his songs, it's really awesome work. I'm excited to see what he does with the New Moon soundtrack!
  • meemomoo
Holy crap, I didn't know all that!! I swear, everything about this film seems to be such a huge improvement over Twilight, I have a hard time containing my excitement!
  • ya same here i am just sooo excited lol
  • nomesters
glad he is choosing someone else, this movie needs to go in a new direction and the music should too. carter was who catherine wanted but chris isn't catherine - Chris is looking to make thee movie better, and the music is a big part of that - I trust Chris, therefore I trust this is good decision
  • meemomoo
I fully agree. To be honest, the more I see of where Chris seems to be taking this film the more confident I am that he'll do a good job. Nothing but good choices seem to be made under his direction.
  • IA to both..

whatever decision Weitz makes, it will be with his best intentions and what he thinks is best for the movie and us fans, look at the castings! c'mon ppl.. lighten up..

    desplat scored:
The curious case of Benjamin Button
    The golden compass
    Mr. magoriums wonder emporium
    The queen (with Michael/Aro)
Casanova (the one with ledger, since there are so many)
    Hostage
    Birth (with Cameron/Alec)
and now Coco avant Chanel, Fantastic Mr Fox(with clooney and blanchett) and The tree of life(with pitt, penn)..

if he can do/did such known movies (and music is a big part of whether a movie will be good ro not) i bet New Moon wouldn't be that big a problem, don't you guys think?

plus.. i loved the Casanova soundtrack :)
  • tweeter76 IAMSWITZERLAND-1/09
I TOTALLY AGREE! The movie's score has to take a new direction because the movie takes a new direction . . . the wolves become a big part of the story and of course, Edward leaves. The tone needs to be heavier . . . more dramatic. This change is a good thing!
  • Twilight-lover
yay....i really didnt like Carter...Bella's lullabye was a real disappointment
i hope Alexandre does a good job
  • CullenFan
I agree. I really didn't like the score to the movie at all. I thought parts of it were really cheesy, or maybe it's just where they cut in the music. I was disappointed in the lullaby, but for continuity sake, they better keep it. I am more interested in the soundtrack, I'm so curious what they'll pick to be on it!
  • Stephy8
I agree with you and I trust Chris Weitz. I think he will do a great job!
  • Philboy
I loved his score, but I hated Bellas Lullaby. It was suppose to be something that he hums to put her to sleep and it turned into this piece that builds and builds with numerous instruments. I would have nightmares not sweet dreams to that song. It was not in anyway what I imagined, and I think Catherine Hardwick and Melissa Rosenberg really did a bad job explaining that he wrote that piece just for her in the film Twilight. Unless you read the book, you had no idea what the significance of that song was. And it is significant, as it carries through all four books. Even in Breaking Dawn he welcomes her home by playing that song on the piano. So it is a love song for her that he composed, and it was suppose to be sweet and loving. I think he got it all wrong. I'm not sure he even read the book.
  • kcullen
I totally agree, and the other issue is that they never introduced it for what it was!!!!!! IT was just Edward playing for Bella.....not that special moment that it was in the books!!!
  • MarcelaN
    Yeah, I agree!!
  • socialromance
Well put. I completely agree. It's supposed to be simple and sweet. And the song in Twilight was everything but that. I hope with the new Musical Director and maybe the influences of Rob they'll be able to put together something that makes a little more sense. And to be honest, if they're worried about the fans that have not read the book, compared to the ones that have, they have nothing to worry about because as if the ones who haven't would pay any attention at all to the song changing. As for the book readers, if it works out, it could go from 4 stars, to 5 stars, in a matter of just that one significant piece of information that captures their love for each other to a greater extent.
  • jeri
I think its a pretty song but ur right its a song u can hum and thats not possible with this one, to much going on
  • virginia
They are going to have to play it some where in the movie .Like when she opens her gift from Edward thats Bellas Lullaby on the cd. Then there is diffrent times he hums to her. I think out of all the songs this one has to stay with the saga its in all the books. Its also one of the main things that Bella and Edward share together.Just the to of them.
  • OMG!! WHY!!! I STILL WANT CARTER BURWELL!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!
HE DID SUCH A GREAT JOB WITH The Score! UGH CHRIS WEITZ, WHY DID YOU HIRE THAT OTHER DUDE. THEY MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE THE SAME STYLE FOR MUSIC!! UGH! WELL, I WONT BE AS MAD IF THEY STILL KEEP Bella's Lullaby THROUGH all THE MOVIES....IT WAS SO GREAT, AND PLUS, IT WOULD MESS UP EVERYTHING IF THEY CHANGE THE LULLABY.....ANYWAYZ, ALL IM HOPING IS THAT ALEXANDRE DESPLAT IS GOOD AND WILL BE really RELATED WITH THE TWILIGHT SAGA'S DESCRIPTION OF MUSIC!!
    -Kelly from www.twi-info.webs.com
  • MCJesus
meh, i'm sure it'll be fine... everything chris seems to be doing so far has been great so i'm excited to see what the music will be lilke
  • I agree. So far, they have exceeded my expectations with casting...I have complete faith in Chris and Summit.
  • jules60
They can’t just change Bella’s lullaby! What about the continuity of the films; that is an important factor, and if it is changed how will we know what Bella’s lullaby is.
  • ya i agree :D
  • kcullen
In Twilight they never introduced Bella's lullaby as what it was....Edward was just playing the piano for Bella. If they do give the cd as a gift I do not think that anyone who did not read the books is going to understand!
  • #1 twilight_fan
very true! if they were to change it, it would make no difference to the plot, it is from the second one on that they cant change it because he gives it to her as a gift, and hums it to her etc. I didnt really like the original version, so if it is changed i think it would be a good thing. maybe make it a little sweeter, to symbolize the love part more. that was something i felt was very left out of twilight. it was more of a horor then a love story.
  • Yisel
Well...I don't think they are going to change it...Chris so far has demostrated good judment with the choices he has made. I love Twilight soundtrack....and I think NM will be great too....anyway there is not too much room for Bella's lulaby in NM....Edward and her hardly spent nights together..even though Edward gives her a CD with the melody but anyway she does not have time to enjoy it....anyway....to the point...let's trust Chris...I hope everything will be ok.
  • They have to change it, the only Carter Burwell composed is copyrighted to him, they can't use it on the film if he's not composing the music for it anymore.
  • meemomoo
    **hmmm** good point
  • MelissaIsATwilightLover
no one said they were gonna change it. it is a different movie, so the theme will be different.
  • Kat
that is sooooo unfair. Like just because chris did another movie with that guy so doesn't mean he should do this soundtrack. way to dissapoint us once again. :(
  • TeamEmmett
I loved Carter Burwell, but since he wasn't assigned to do this movie, i hope Desplat, at least keeps Bella's lullaby basically the same, maybe just using the piano portion of it instead of the entire orchestra.
  • I don't think they'll be allowed to use the Lullaby because its copyrighted to Carter Burwell. This really sucks because I really liked his music. Now its just going to be weird because the entire tone of the second movie is going to be different. Ugh... I'm already starting to have bad feelings about the second movie.
  • ya i agree
  • twifan89
i loved bella's lullaby, this makes me sad but i guess we must roll with the punches
  • maison loves jasper
it tottally sux cuz first thay change directors now this now wat is next
  • MsSoleil
I agree, I hope they still keep Bella's Lullaby on all the Twilight Saga's. But I am excited to hear the new soundtrack. Twilight's was so good! Hope they have seom of Rob's and Jacksons stuff in there too.
  • MsSoleil
Sorry, the band Jackson is a part of "100 Monkeys"!
  • OCDJenni
    Yes...Jackson's part of a band called 100 Monkeys :)
  • Nicnixs :) Squirrelshavelaws
Why the hell don't they just get Rob to do it :) He could manage in between takes LOL
  • Elloo
AWWW The HAVE to use Bella's Lullabye!
It was like prettiest song EVER. It was stuck in my head for forever...and I liked it!
  • pattinsonplayshopscotch
Hey guys, sorry to burst your bubble, but that song being played by the Taliesin Orchestra isn't actually Rob's composition. Its "River Flows in You" by Yiruma, and was originally being considered to be put in as Bella's Lullaby, before Carter came along.
It is beautiful though, and I prefer it a lot more to the proper lullaby.

Rob's version, if there is one, would have been spectacular either way! :)
  • Stephanie
i like this one too but come on they cant change Bella's lullaby that would be dumb
so they better use the one from twilight in NM or it will be weard. it would have been nice to have put woeds to it though and have Edward sing it to Bella since Rob can sing.
  • isazzy
Rob did compose a lullaby, it's on the Target DVD. It's absolutely beautiful, although River Flows In You is beautiful, too. Both of them are SO much better than Burwell's shiza.
  • isazzy
you can listen to Rob's lullaby at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGJPnCPZUto.
  • wow.. that's just mind blowing.. i never heard it before..

why on earth did they use that awfull thing burwell made?
    this is so much better!!

    ugh.. fail chardwicke, FAIL!

now let's use this in New Moon, Chris!
  • everything_will_be_alright
Jesus, i'd like to see anyone else compose music as complex as burwells, or in such a large range as he has.

    bloody ignorent of you.
  • marie
yeah i prefer that one too, i sounds more like what Edward would have composed to Bella, but oh well, i hope they use Bella's Lullaby thou. But they could also use Yiruma's as "Esme's favorite" don't you think?
  • marie
i also would love in the soundtrack The reason by Hoobastank it is in Stephenie Meyer site and that song could be use as background in the scene after the come back from Italy, when Edward is explaining everything to Bella, that song is so from Edward to Bella in that moment.
  • Lovin_the_Cullens_n_Bella
    So true.... I agree.... :))
  • socialromance
So True! I'd love to see/hear that. He was originally supposed to create Bella's Lullaby, almost on the spot because they didn't have Carter Burwell, but at the last minute I guess Catherine Hired him so Rob wasn't too tied up between both Acting and Composing. I'm sure that anything Rob came up with would be amazing anyways.
  • kyla
robs version of bellas lullaby is on itunes
its preformed by the Taliesin Orchestra though
but its the same thing rob composed
  • Nicnixs :) Squirrelshavelaws
damn... it would would be great :)

    I liked Rob's version better anyway :) hope he's does at least a track or 2 :)
  • BriSa
I lOve Robert's version it was great!! I want more TaylOr Lautner newS jaja I lOve him!! mOre Taylor Lautner news please!!
  • AQUA
ohh noooo they have too noooo!!!!! bellas lulubay
  • AQUA
lol sorry i freaked i read it wrong ingnore that comment lol
  • RedPawn3592
i liked carter burwell's tracks, but i thought that bella's lullaby could have been improved. it was supposed to be a simple piano piece, not an orchestra of instruments. I'd like to see what Desplat does with New Moon.
  • +1
  • meemomoo
I won't be upset if there are subtle changes to Bella's Lullaby, there is definitely room for improvement.
  • kcullen
I agree and the other thing is Meyer's says that Edward hums the lullaby to Bella...the one that was in the movie was not humable..... the one Rob wrote was better, but still a little hard the hum I think....
  • Brittney
That is exactly what I thought when I heard it...it's beautiful, but it cannot be hummed...oh, well, he is a vampire...they can talk really fast, why not hum? lol!
  • Tiffani
    IT WAS F**KING AWESOME!!!
  • Cass
He Composed Bella's lullaby for Robert Pattinson to actually play. I loved it. =]
  • Cass
I really liked Carter Burwell's soundtracks. They're very good.
