200904031408.jpg Catherine Hardwicke has recorded a thank-you to fans for helping her make lots of money by propelling the Twilight Director’s Notebook to #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list. I would post a thumbnail picture of the cover of the book, but I’d probably just get another letter from her publisher’s lawyer.

Dear Twilight fans,

I wanted to send out a note of thanks to all of you. I recently found

out that my book, Twilight: Director’s Notebook, will debut at #1 on

this Sunday’s New York Times bestseller list. I am stunned. Throughout

this entire process, from pre-production on the film, to the premieres,

to my book events, I have always been overwhelmed by the support the

Twilight fans have had for me, the movie and now my book. I wanted to

give the fans, as well as aspiring filmmakers, a closer look at how we

made the movie and I hope you enjoyed entering my world of making films

as much as I have had in being part of the Twilight world.

Catherine

‘Twilight’ exclusive: Director Catherine Hardwicke thanks fans for making her ‘Director’s Notebook’ No. 1

Milk the cash cow? if only she was alone in that ... at least she was part of it, whether the final result was good or not.
Twilight is big bizz atm, face the truth and try to be realistic ok.
  • kassia
Am I the only one who can't see this video, no matter what computer I go to?
  • Well that was nice to thank the fan. But please, PLEASE, don't hate me for what I am about to say....the moment I heard that she was putting this book out I thought she was trying to milk the cash cow known as Twilight.

But she did, however ishy it was, bring the movie to life. It wasn't a bad movie (I could watch Jackson and Kellan for hours) but I am thankful to her for the movie. I am still irked that the meadow and Jacob's prom scene almost didn't make it to the film. Seriously Catherine!!
I don't completely blame Catherine because Melissa Rosenwhatever did write the script. The very original script had Bella as a track star and jock. Maybe Melissa is the one who didn't get Twilight.

ps....I do have her book and it is awesome....

I love Catherine Hardwickes movies.....Thirteen, Lords of Dog Town...of course Twilight...Remember all you amateur reviewer...One, a movie can pretty much only be as good as the money the producers are willing to put into it...Summit gave them nada, zilch, zip...and they have made a gazillion dollars in returen...For those of you who continue to whine that they didn't put all of the story into the film...Guess what, you aren't ever going to get that....They aren't going to film a six hour movie...
So, again I'll say, if you hated the books, hated the movie, hate the director..What the hell are you doing here????
  • No no no. Thank YOU Catherine For making one of the best Book appering to be on screen. It was really awesome.

p.s.- i wrote something wrong on the website so i had to write it again
  • No no no. Thank YOU Catherine For making one of the best Book appering to be on screen. It was really awesome.

I LOVED the book! Just like that previous posting about the commentary on the DVD....it was awesome to get a glimpse of the thought process....and this book, I think, is beautifully done. I like the scrapbook/journal way it's presented. So I join the others in saying Thank you, Catherine!
  • Slightly Twilight Obsessed
I think she is a bit of a freak show. I love the movie, but I know it's because I look past the lack of attention to detail and just enjoy the characters and the story. She did do a great job with casting and capturing the feel of the story. I'm glad there is a new director for New Moon. Out with the crazy, in with the new. :0

Haha... Catherine is really a nutty person but I do like her! I know a lot of you were upset b/c she didn't do that great of a job in Twilight (and so was I) but we DO have to thank her guys cause she brought a great cast to the film(s) and brought our beloved characters to life! Yea, she could have done wayyyy better but she tried and I believe she did an okay job... practice makes perfect? As far as her notebook, I bought it and think it's great... great addition to my collection =]

Am I the only one that really doesn't like, or I guess like isn't the right word. Am I the only one that is not really impressed with Catherine? After the cloud of "OMG TWILIGHT" has settled, and I actually watch the movie with a more critical eye... the movie kinda sucks at points. There are some things that I think a director should have called out and said "whoa! lets go back and reshoot that one scene" or something. Like Emmett eating in the cafeteria. I want to ask her how many times did she actually read the book. And then thinking that that Biology scene in the movie was suppose to be the scene where they fall in love (heard her say that in the commentary)... if you read Edwards POV on the Steph's site (which Rob said he did) then you would know that he's actually trying to figure out why the heck she is there during that scene. Plus, from just reading Twilight alone (for the purest out there that won't read Steph's leaked draft. You have much more wille power than me!) you can tell that is only a stepping stone scene... that isn't the pivotal (OMG we're in love scene) PLUS... the meadow scene. What more can I say? That meadow scene was SCREWED UP! But maybe that's more screenplay writing that directing.. I dunno.

Whew. Sorry, didn't mean for that to turn into such a rant, but it's stuff i've been mulling over while watching Twilight :-D Don't be hatin! :)
  • Sarahsitas
I do agree. Emmett eating did bother me, as did the "buttcrack Santa" and the angel wings behind Edward's back in the Biology scene. I understand the excitement about foreshadowing but, when I watched the movie (mind you, I watched the movie before I read the series -- it made me want to read the series, so thanks be to Twilight for that!) I thought: "Ew. Those look like wings. Very weird." And, after reading the series, I still think that one two second clip where he's staring at her looks just awful.

That being said, I preordered the book and was glad that I did. I like Catherine. I think she was excited about the project. Still, some small things bothered me. But, then I look at how the wolf picture was in Bella's house and other small things, and I like it. Like, the "Kiss me, I'm Irish" shirt being Waylen's, along with James wearing his jacket + the security badge from the first killing. I just wish the detail was there all along.

I thought it was an awesome book ! CONGRATS CATHERINE !
  • elaine
Without her, there would be no Rob and I thank her for that from the bottom of my heart!
I bought the Director's Notebook and have enjoyed it!
  • twilight_fanpire123
    gotta luv her
  • Nope. Still not buying it. She still comes off as a drugged out freak from a different reality to me. I mean seriously, "Bit-chin'"? I didn't like her as the director to Twilight & I don't like the fact she is cashing in on it in any way. Harsh? Yes. If she had been truer to the book, the original story, I'd have more love for her. If anything I appriciate the fact she tried. She gave it her all but it just wasn't good enough for most of us. The director's notebook is nifty I'll admit so props to her for that. I also appriciate the fact she took on directing Twilight in the first place. I just wish she'd have done a better job.

NewMoonMovie, grow up. Stop hating on Catherine and own up to the fact that you broke the law and were called out on it.
  • Rachel

  • MsOrange78

  • Carrie
Anyone else thinkg she is simply milking Twilight for all she can since she doesn't have any other work lined up?
  • kaylak
Ah I love her so much. She is crazy and has some weird spunk to her. I'm glad though or Twilight wouldn't of been what it is. Hahaha bitchin!!!
  • she seems like such a nice woman
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Ok its not just me either then lol I think if I had to work with her she would drive me nutty! a bit out there.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
ok please dont bash me for this comment but.. what is up with her and that thank you video? Has she been drinking or something? really.

Im glad there's a new director for New Moon, IMO he will bring maturity to the characters of New Moon. Cant Wait!
  • bisforxbeauty
She's an absolute nutter! I think she used to be a drug-abusing hippie.
  • beeee2222
I was definately thinking that she is a little weird lol im glad im not the only one.
  • OK I'm going to be hated!

See the smile on her face...that is there because off us hard working fans lining her pocket with our hard earned cash. I wont be buying the book, simply because I wasn't impressed with the film. Yes in a crappy kinda way I love it, but too much was left out and changed. So I don't really wan to know her visions for the film etc, it make me even more mad at her.
  • beeee2222
I dont hate you either. I agree with you!
  • BetOnAlice
I don't hate you :) I personally think it could have been better. I am in much anticipation of Chris Weitz job with it. All the movies I have seen by him have been fantastic, including the very well known and noted here Harry Potter and The Golden Compass films. I sure hope the make the rest of the latter series.
  • kassia
er, he actually didn't have any part of any of the Harry Potter movies.
  • I really think he's going to do an amazing job! His films are excellent, and so far from what we have seen he's staying so true til the book!

I can't wait for November, it can't come quick enough!
  • gottobekidding
I don't hate you either. I agree but, I bought the book because it looked really cool. I'm SO excited about Chris Weitz!
  • BetOnAlice
OMG, be careful she may make you take this down too! LOL.
  • IndiesR
You're welcome Catherine, and thank you for the laughs. I loved your notebook. :)
  • LeStatOnTwilight
Hey Catherine! Thank you... for giving us a fantastic movie and for sharing with us a one-of-a-kind notebook!
  • Just because she said thank you, I feel like buying it. I think I'll make a trip to Barnes and Nobles tomorrow =D
  • kaylak
I thought it was worth buying!!
  • honey_bee
I have the book! It's okay!
  • Rachel Moore
Yay. First comment. So i guess that this is kinda cool that Catherine is thanking US for the coolest thing that SHE has done. While I dont think she did very well tranfering the book to screen, it is cool having a directors notebook. I havnt bought it yet, but I am soon!
  • mickey_lamb

  • Twi-Tiana_7
    hahaha!!!
omg me and my frend did the same thing!
    lol.
and i cant help but laugh at one of my favortie kind of screw up moments....
rite after Edward and Bella get back from dinner and they pull into Charlies work she says " What is going on" and it sounds almost mono tone with no emotion and i cant help but laugh .lol.
