^^^ hmm sorry but you're wrong hairstyle CAN change. Excellent Example is Alice. She was changed during the early 1920's. SM describes her hair as "hair that is short, spiky, and black"

None are spikey but they are short. I believe that when they get turned their hair stays the same length but prolly can be styled a bit. So the length and sideburns would be stuck with him forever.

once you become a vampire, you're frozen in time. sure, rosalie styles her hair, but they don't cut their hair because it won't grow back. that's why alice's hair is short: in the nut house the apparently shave your hair off or something and it was just growing back. jasper's hair should look "civil warish" and not modern. he's not supposed to be creepy anyway, besides the pained look and keeping his distance from bella (which makes him look cold and distant not creepy)

I also thought of James Marsters when I saw this pic - maybe this could be a still from a "flashback" moment or something that is meant to show Jasper from the Civil War era, just like Joss Whedon did with James Marsters/Spike in Buffy??? Plenty of critics/fans have pointed out that we get practically no background info. on Jasper or his gift in Twilight (the movie), so maybe they're making up for that out of necessity somewhere in New Moon and needed to use that kind of flashback - if that's what this is. Just a thought.....

Most of their hair looked fake in the first film anyway, but I expected better quality wigs, makeup etc from the second film, considering they have a bigger budget to play around with. Hello guys Rosalie was the HALE, we never knew what Jaspers last name really was, he IS part of the Cullen family though, and he has the WORST hair of any of the Cullens. its very unnatural. Everyone else hase hair that you'd actually see, not Jasper, its wierd and just doest fit. Find a new stylist!!!

everything stays frozen, but in the twilight verse the hair can be cut. It wouldn't regrow, it would just stay short. (Stephenie meyer said this sometime ... I think in relation to rosalie, because rosalie would have to look out for her hair. Because if the ends are split, then that would be that.)

Yep, I agree, he looked SO much hotter in Twilight, but this look definitely fits with more of Jasper's Civil War genre. I have mixed reactions about it. Ok, so this suits him better....but it's the 21 century, aren't they trying to fit in more? Shrugs...dunno, to me, it would make him stick out like a sore thumb even without the pale skin and amber eyes.

Okay, first of all, I don't like either hairstyle, but I have to agree, that this hairstyle is more condusive to the 1860's. If we really want to more technical, men in the 1860"s also wore mustaches, beards that were extremely long, and sideburns, and usually soliders during the Civil War didn't bathe for months, so their hair would be greasy!!! (yuk).
As for ,Edward, he was turned in1918, men during that era wore their hair slicked back or parted in the middle or to the side. I'm so glad that SM didn't describe his hair in that fashion in her book.
Rosalie was turned in the 1930's, and women's hairstyle during that time was either short or long but worn in a bun close to the neck, so her's is an exception,it's actually more condusive to the 1940's (ie: Rita Hayworth, Veronica Lake).
All in all, I'll just be glad when New Moon comes out in November!!! I know it will be a great movie visually.

It could just be the angle of the shot (in relation to the sideburns). And i'm sure they'd spruce them up while in front of the camera. I like the hair as well.

The new hair is more historical accurate for someone who lived during the Civil War. I liked the old but I think the new will be just fine. And we have to remember this is just one photo, we won't really know what it looks like until it hits the screen. I can't wait.

Ok, first of all the ALL look freaking AWESOME! Make-up is better, hair is better, and clothes are better.

Second, Jasper looks like he should. His hair looked permed in Twilight, and the last time I checked they weren't perming hair during the time period he was "changed" in. I mean, his hair is wavy and he has side-burns like they did back then. Quit gripping people, he is MUCH truer to the Jasper character this time around!

Agreed, absolutely. Jackson always looks great, including in Twilight. But this definitely looks more fitting to the era he "lived" in. I really love that they're paying close attention to those seemingly minute details & stylizing them accordingly. It really does enhance the realization that these characters are essentially historic & that they're still very nostalgic about it. Awesome! :)

Out of all of them, Carlisle seems to be the one most nostalgic about his past--well according to his wardrobe anyway--I just love love LOVE how he dresses...especially loving his birthday party outfit.

To each their own...things aren't going to look the same as they did in the first one because the first one was low budget and didn't stay true to the book. I mean, no one is complaining about Victoria's hair being different. So what the heck. I'm just glad his hair doesn't look like he has a bad perm and it isn't stuck to his head. He looks genteel, like a southern gentleman from the 1800's should. I bet Stephenie is stoked that her characters actually look the part in this movie, unlike Twilight.

I was going by what Stephenie saying that once they cut their hair or shave, then they can't regrow it back, and since the first movie I know alot of fans have done their research on twilight, I think my prob after seeing the picture was the side burns thats what looks so off, but i do see your point too as well, and i did complain about victorias hair, i thought it was off as well, but who am i to change whats already been done ya know..

I do get your point...my point is that Chris seems to be doing a much better job staying true to the book. Had it been done in the first movie, there wouldn't be a need to go back and "fix" things as it were...but CH took a lot of artistic liberties and did what she wanted. Now the new production team is having to correct her mistakes. Yeah, they all look a little different but it's necessary in order to make a better film! I'm keeping an open mind and enjoying all of the brilliant choices they've made thus far.

One last thing....I was reading another of your posts regarding his side burns....and while I agree they are not "in-style" today......they were during the Civil War/Old South period which was when Jasper got changed. He should have looked like this for Twilight but instead looked like he had a horrible 80's perm. They are vampires.....they don't change in appearance from the time they are "born." I'm really sorry some of you don't find Jasper "modern" enough now but it is the way it is supposed to be. :) YAY for Chris for following Stephenie's vision off the page and bringing it the big screen the right way!

I haven't got a baldy notion what a southerner civil war man looked like (all our history taught was about mainly English/European history at school) But I know that in Twilight it wasn't what he was supposed to look like or for that matter what Rosalie was supposed to look like either. In Twilight I wanted to run my hands through his hair to rough it up abit, I'm so happy they have got the hair make up and wardrobe better this time around. Plus when they are on screen they will like different again, cracks me up no end why peoples knickers are getting into a twist, they need to get them out off they're backside before it starts to cause some damage!

You said it Tweter. I hated so much that Rachel's hair was blonde in Twilight. Its such a little detail but it was an important one..."fire on the water"? Not then! lol I'm in love w/it now! Perfect! I think people should just take a step back & try to consider the new changes as an aesthetic enhancement. Not like everyone changed their looks IN CHARACTER, but an out of character, movie enhancement. Fundamentally they all look the same. These changes are just made to look more appealing to the fans, but its not changes -from- the characters so its really not that big of a deal, because the vampires aren't "changing", the appearance of the movie is.

I just love that all the actors came back for the movie! Can you imagine if they would have hired a different Jasper or Rosalie? HALE NO! I love how they've tweaked the looks of them all...they look more polished, refined.....like Alice is truly dressing them.....the way the Cullen family should look!

These people on here who are saying that his haircut looks gay, really are not considering the comparison with the book, they're comparing too much with the first movie (Plus saying that his haircut "looks gay", is the most juvenile thing I've ever read in all these comments, I agree with deedee81 [and laughingly so] on her opinion of that the"looking gay" or fruitcake statements is way overdone and underthought).

And we have a new director, there are going to be changes made! And in my opinion, the changes are for the better. I still like the first movie a lot, but I know that the director got quite a bit of creative freedom with a lot of things. (SM still made sure the key elements were there) But I still think she should have kept more in mind of their appearances, since they're vampires who were created in era's long ago, and are permanently preserved in their state, so they should have features that still remain from that era. An example would be his sideburns, I may not like the way it looks, but it's historically accurate. Did anyone read anything about vampires shaving in the books?

And their hair (whether it's Alice or Jasper) is just styled different! It's the same length, its not that different! Who says vampires can't style their hair different? People are comparing too much with the first movie, when they should appreciate that this new director is being more accurate with the books. Heck, its the books that started everything and made us love it so, so I'm more than happy that this director and all the crew are honoring them! All those complaining... remember the books dang it! REMEMBER THE BOOKS!

ONE LAST RANT... Read the freaking books again girls!!!!!! The vampires DO NOT change in looks, personality, etc...once they are changed! Jasper was changed in the 1800's so he should look like he is from the 1800's, NOT the 1980's bad-perm era.

Exactly jral, when you are making a movie especially about vampires, and the history of the characters, Jasper came from the Civil War, Carlisle from 1600s England, Edward early 1900s Chicago, Alice is from the 1920s, South. You have to study the time period of where they are from on how they would look. So pardon CW for wanting the characters to look authentic opposed to the "hot" factor. Wow! I have to say, Jasper's hair in Twilight was one of the things that annoyed me most - I know that it was his real hair, but it looked like a wig. Which REALLY annoyed me. I think it was the way it stood up at the front, because the new hairstyle looks awesome! Exactly the way I pictured Jasper.

The Twlight style was MUCH better. He looks like a cowboy or 70's dude with the new one. I liked Rosalie's Twilight style better, too. I think they should have used a wig with the same style and dark roots. I think the dark roots make them look a little different, as they should. I read a post by someone who thought Rosalie was dressed like a hooker in the first movie. I totally disagree. I loved the way she dressed. If I could wear heels like that and walk well and be comfortable as a vampire would, I'd wear shoes like that all the time! Ok I was looking at this picture for a about 5 mins....Her eis my take on it, In Twilight if you notice his hair is push upward and not down towards his forward this probably why his hair is different. his side burns I don't know, I think they should be thinner. The hair is fine.

I would have to say yes he does look the part of a Civil War Major, but if he was blending into todays society would you all say that he blends or that he sticks out. My impression from the books is that the Cullen/Hale family because he goes by Hale in the books, try to blend and in my own opinion it looks as if he going to a costume contest. Like I said thats my opinion. But like i posted in a ealier reply, i can live with the hair, just not the side burns, you don't see too many people now a days with sideburns like that, well not from where i am from anyways.. Course too, if they changed Jasper to match the year he was born in then they should do the same with Emmett, because he is supposed to be from the Gatlinburg area of Tennessee, which happens to be located 2 hrs east of me and the year he was changed. then his character should reflect a hillbillyish outlook.

I just felt the need to add my two cents to this very interesting group of comments. ( some have been mentioned before) He is not shooting in this pic, he is just arriving at the set. You have a very close up picture of something that most likely will not receive the same close up attention in the movie, so the sideburns may not look as big and the wig may not look as fake. Also we have no idea what he is filming, what if it is him at the birthday and he is struggling with Edward or one of the other Cullens, wouldn't his hair be a tad bit messed up? As for the change in style, I do not think it is a result of vampires "changing" but more a result of the new director trying to either streamline the look to the book or to potentially realign it with the character in the book.
Regardless we will all be at the theater in November and we will still all love Jasper

Jasper's hair has always been confusing for me. I wasn't a big fan of his previous hairdo, but I got used to it. So now this new hairstyle is throwing me for a loop. I quite like it, though. For ONE you are basing all your judgements on a side profile pic.....at least have a comparison with a similar perspective before getting all your panties in a bunch! and you cant really tell how bushy his side burns are from a side pic as well! TWO....jackson is not even in character! he is on set looking like he is having a good time, so basically you are saying Jackson looks like a fruit cake not Jasper. You have no idea how the hair is going to look when he is in character! I'm sure that after the movie comes out, if we were to have this same debate then, more than half you haters will have changed your minds!!!! I happen to like this new do....it looks more natural for jasper.

At first glance, I'm not liking it, but pictures don't always show the full picture. I thought there was room for improvement from the first one, but I will judge for myself when I see the movie.

That is terrible. Why change something that worked so well the first time. The Cullens are suppose to be beautiful, not scruffy. I really hope that s not the way production is going to keep his hair. Bad choice.

Ok Girls, I was on here later.... but was bored with nothing to do so now Im back on. So bored infact I started to tally up on topic of Jaspers new do....A lot post multiple comments so I totaled 121 opinions.
