funny twilight cake wreck The Twilight Cake Wreck

We’ve previously shown you 28 amazing Twilight cakes. This cake falls more in the…interesting rather than amazing side of things. It’s been featured on a great blog called Cake Wrecks which shows mishaps in cake construction–this is what they had to say:

Now, can I appreciate the irony of a vampire cake that sucks?

Of course I can.

Do I mind that the apple is now a red bell pepper?

Nah, not so much.

Would I still like to know what the Wreckerator was smoking when s/he made those flabby-yet-disjointed amoeba arms?

[nodding] Yes, yes I would.

[thanks, TwiCrack]

kristen stewart 200904271142 Kristen Stewart and Michael Angarano Horseplay in Vancouver

New Moon star Kristen Stewart and boyfriend Michael Angarano were spotted on the streets of Vancouver having a bit of fun–Michael gave Kristen a piggy back ride and they held hands for a bit. Seems like Spring love is in the air up in Vancouver! Lainey has the Punkd pics, as well as a writeup

They went for sushi, she playfully hopped on his back, then when she realised she was being papped, she quickly jumped off. The two continued on their way all awkward and sh-t. She looks great, right? Very pretty, beautiful skin. Happy.

Am told exclusively that they spent a romantic weekend together – Michael arranged for accommodation at a different hotel, with an open ocean view, and they were able to escape for a day from the crowds waiting outside all the time.

[Thanks, Lisa and Shurlock!]

taylor lautner 200904271020 Taylor Lautner and Selena Gomez Hanging Out Near Vancouver

Taylor Lautner and Selena Gomez look to be having an adorably good time this weekend hanging out together, following up on their previous friendly day out together we reported previously. Lainey Gossip shares these Punkd pictures and says–

Saturday night: they had dinner at the Cactus Club in Coquitlam, emerged in great spirits, both with big smiles on their faces, Selena held on to Taylor’s arm. At one point, after they had become separated and she fell behind to sign autographs, she ran back up to join him, throwing her arms around his neck, both bursting into giggles.

They are defintely cute together if they are in fact dating–but I can’t help but think: they’re almost too perfect–they look like brother and sister. Great to see Taylor in such high spirits, though!

Now that we’ve had some time to digest the casting choices for the sequel to Twilight, New Moon, I think it’s safe to say that on the whole, casting made some great choices. Reelzchannel takes a look at the newly cast actors for the Volturi and Wolf Pack in particular, and gives their view. Here are two of the more controversial picks for the cast–

volturi new moon wolf pack casting 200904271016 Summary of New Moon Cast: Wolf Pack and Volturi Jamie Campbell Bower as Caius

Where you’ve seen him: As Anthony in Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street and in RocknRolla. He’s also rumored to be starring in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

In New Moon: Caius is one of three Volturi leaders, alongside Aro and Marcus, and is the more stubborn of the group. He has a fear of werewolves, and isn’t too keen on Bella and Edward either.

Verdict: He’s quite creepy looking, which should suit Caius well. We’re wondering if he’s too young for the role, though he does have the required shoulder-length hair. We’re not too sure about translucent onion skin, though.

volturi new moon wolf pack casting 200904271015 Summary of New Moon Cast: Wolf Pack and Volturi Tyson Houseman as Quil Ateara

Where you’ve seen him: In low-key theater productions, mostly.

In New Moon: Quil, one of Jacob’s best friends, is the last to learn of his wolf heritage. He imprints on Emily’s two-year-old niece, Claire. But it’s not creepy. At all.

Verdict: He looks mischievous and friendly, though we’re not sure he’s tall enough. Ah well, small details.

Do you think that for the most part, the casting choices that were made for New Moon were good ones? Who are you still a bit worried about?

vancouver set 200904270756 Bellas House After First Day of Shooting

Privacy screens were erected at the set of Bella’s House to prevent curious onlookers from seeing what was going on while they filmed the first night of shots at the house. RobPattzNews has been posting some great coverage on Twitter, however, including the shot of the house above after filming stopped with the screens still in place.

There’s also a couple of vids on their YouTube channel when filming actually took place, but it’s hard to make out much.

twilight commentary den of shadows house of night vampire academy twilight Will There be Twilight Knock offs from The Success of the Saga? With the success of Twilight in both film and book form, the Deadbolt questions whether it will spawn a whole new period of supernatural entertainment. They note the Rome wasn’t built in a day–so all the stuff coming down the pipeline may not be apparent yet, however there are already quite a few works in the Twilight style that are doing pretty well–

Fiction franchises like House of Night, Den of Shadows, and the Vampire Academy have lured legions of loyal fans, especially young adults who relate most to the recipe of fantasy and real and relatable teen issues. As successful as each series has been, now amid the popularity of Twilight, New Moon and its stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, you can easily make the argument that these books are simply capitalizing on the previous success of other novels. If it weren’t for one, there wouldn’t be another. It’s a cycle that has existed throughout the centuries of literature, fuelled by money and profit off of something that’s already proven itself lucrative. None of this is new, of course. In the movie world prior to Twilight and New Moon, we went from Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter to Asian Remake, all with a slew of similar stories and concepts that clogged up the theatres until the last dollar was coughed up. Comic book geeks, sorry to say, you’re next.

Now that the Twilight Saga has garnered so much worldwide attention in the production stages, a question of the Twilight ripple-effect comes to mind. How many similarly themed novels, movies, and TV shows will we see because of Twilight and New Moon? How many are already being written, in production, or now wrapped or in post-production? There’s one that we know of for certain.

I find it interesting how the cover of most of the book series mentioned follow a fairly similar design motif as the Twilight series, especially House of Night and Den of Shadows with its monochromatic black and white with pops of red.

Have any of you been drawn in by other pieces of supernatural fiction?

[thanks, Lisa/LMCullen]
