in Eclipse

200904212125.jpg The typically reliable Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood is reporting that David Slade, edgy director of Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night is in talks to possibly direct the Eclipse movie. He has reportedly already met with Stephenie Meyer as well as Summit President Erik Feig. No official word on this yet, so consider it a rumor at this point. What do you think of this choice if he ends up being picked for the job?

I love Hard Candy - but I think that might be more to do with the gorgeous Patrick Wilson being in it, than the director! (so shallow...)

But it's just a rumour for now anyway... it'll be someone else by next week.
  • RustyHalo
I think he's a really great director and wouldn't have a problem delivering us the goods.
I think he would come through for us, but since it's just a rumor for now...???
  • rockstar_2891
i think i should see thirty days of night, but i saw hard candy and didn't think it was that great!
  • Dangerous
He is a great director. His movie 30 Days of Night was awesome. So glad they picked a good one.
  • Kassielovesthecullens
30 days of night was an awesome movie. If you actually view all the extras on that DVD you find ot that they shot ALL of the "NIGHT"scenes in broad daylight and with special effects changed it's appearance. Sounds like the kind of director we need for Eclipse!!!
  • RustyHalo
Excellent point Kassie! He would be great. =)
  • abby0936
I haven't seen 30 Days of Night, but I saw Hard Candy, and it was utterly disturbing! I'm pretty sure I had nightmares and awful images in my head for weeks! Ugh! I don't really wanna think about that again. haha
But anyways, I agree with most of you in the fact that I don't think that Eclipse should be a horror movie, I think Eclipse really needs to show the love.
But honestly, I don't even care about who the director is. I just care about having the movie follow the book and giving me the same types of feelings from when I read the book.
  • abby0936
Well I never saw 30 Days Of Night, but I saw Hard Candy, and it was utterly disturbing! I guess you could say that it was directed well, which is what were looking at, but I don't think that the feeling from Hard Candy should be the feeling in Eclipse. I had nightmares about Hard Candy.
And I'm all about more books! I don't really care who the director is as long as it stays true to the book and gives me generally the same feeling.
  • Cullengirl
Not Bloodlust and what is happening in Seattle with the brutal murders and how the victim are being discovered is pretty gruesome and not to mention Victoria and Riley's death. Oh yeah and Jasper's and Rosalie's history is filled with violence, the Southern wars and Rosalie's rape and her revenge on Royce King. Gah the imagine of Rosalie is a wedding dress coming to get the man who hurt is going to be one scary s**t.
  • lauraseclipse
Hmm I commented on this yesterday but it doesn't seem to have showed up.
I agree about the directors... chris seems to be doing a great. I also agree that Eclipse is not an entirely scarey book... It is heavy on the romance and emotions... we don't need yet another horror film... we need someone who can handle horrific subject matter in a human way. So I hope Summit chooses wisely....
  • Kassielovesthecullens
This guy did an awesome job on 30 days of night....and if you actually watch the extras on that DVD you find out that all the filming for it was done during the day...in total sunlight! (when everything appears to be at night in that movie) He would be a fabulous choice for Eclipse!
  • twilover
I am so sad by this.........I know that David is a great director but from what I can see Chris is doing an incredible job. Also David is really good at scary films.....Ecipse is not a scary movie its a suspence thriller (more emphasis on the suspence) and it needs to be appropriate for the younger kids. Not to say that david wouldnt do a good job but I kinda wish that Chris could film eclipse too! It helps with cohesion. I would hate to have an amazing New Moon and then have it followed up by just an ok Eclipse!
  • twilightus
I agree with you --- Eclipse is not a scary movie --- not a blood lust vampire movie, so don't take it there. Now if David can do that, then go for it. but stay true to the book, that's all we ask!

Ok -- Steph --- we need more books!!!!!!!!!
  • twilover
    I agree Steph....more books please!!!
  • I THINK HE WILL DO GREAT !!!!!
  • JamieCullen85
Oh my!! I am so excited I hope this is one rumor that's true! I absolutely loved Hard Candy... if you haven't seen it, watch it! Ellen Page is great in this movie, and 30 days of Night, AWESOME!! I PRAY he is the director!
  • Shellby
why cant Chris Weitz do it?
  • TwiLove
he is still going to be doing post production of new moon when eclipse starts filming so he can't do it... I wish he could, he seems to be doing a great job.
  • Shellby
why cant Chris Weitz do it?
  • tweeter76 IAMSWITZERLAND-1/09
I was really hoping that Paul Weitz would do it to keep the continuity in the films. Who knows.
  • RobCakes
I really hope they get Eclipse right, I think it will have a big effect on whether BD will be made so fingers crossed!

I do wonder who will direct it though, they have to be able to film very soft emotional scenes as well as some crazy fighting scenes.
  • oceanecho
3o days of night was fantastic, the vampires in that film scared the sh*t out of me. They had the weirdist faces but they looked brilliant. From his movies i have seen i have enjoyed each one and i think he has got his own style and i think that would work well with Eclipse.
  • Daniela23
I have to admit, I was kinda hoping it will be Bayona. I feel that European director can give something more to the series, a new vibe. I know that David Slade is British, but I kinda have a thing for spanish directors haha.
About Slade, I haven't seen any of his films, but I see people here like them. I have to get more informed about his work. I've heard about "Hard Candy" and that it had some good reviews. That is very impressive. I watched the trailer now and it gave me the chills.

For me Eclipse will be the most difficult to film....I think the script has to be really, really good. It is difficult to portray those feelings and not confuse people who didn't read the book.
I mean that she loves Jacob too, but just not enough...and that Edward is the love of her life. I really hope they'll make it look right.

Eclipse is the most irritating book of them all for me...I think I wanted to kill all of them haha.

They probably have a director signed, they have to. He has to prepare for shooting because Eclipse is going to start filming really soon.
Who is it, we'll have to see and wait for official announcement, I just hope they chose well...
  • I think Eclipse has to be kept as close as to the book as possible with no deviations. There are certain things about Twilight ( movie) that I like but I think they deviated from the book too much. I know you can never do the whole book exactly but when you look at Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings they didn't chop and change that much. Twilight I found for one was just too short, before you knew it they were in love and you just don't get to feel all those feeling that Bella is going through. And I hated they changed the meadow scene, after all thats were Bella goes back and finds Laurent so I do wonder how they will do that in New Moon.

Eclipse though is my favorite book out the saga so that why I just wish they stick to the book as much as possible.
  • I don't know who he is but I think I'll wait for an official announcement from Summit, which should be soon right? They are due to start filming in August if I remember correctly? Surely they would need to get they're butt in gear, maybe they already have a director and are being yet again tight lipped about it, wouldn't surprise me!
  • tweeter76 IAMSWITZERLAND-1/09
    I agree.
  • TeamJBTL
I think it would be great to have David Slade for the new director of ECLIPSE! 30 days of night was a pretty gory movie in a bloody way just like ECLIPSE. Escpecially with the newborns. So if he could do those effects for ECLIPSE, this movie will be a totally different kind of movie! :D

    EXCITING!!!!!!!!!! :D
  • TeamJBTL
I think it would be wonderful if David Slade was the director of ECLIPSE. There is alot more suppense and horror in that one. And if he can make a movie '30 days of night' then of coarse it would be awesome for him to do the bloody effects for the newborns! :)

    exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • trish13
OME YESSSSS!!!!!!! I PREFER HIM OVER DREW!!! 30 days of nights was downright effed up! im sure he'll portray it well. I know eclipse isn't a horror fic I'd like to see how he'll be able to pull it off.
  • hartsafire
If they get this guy to direct Eclipse then I think that the scenes with the newborns and edwards and seths fight scene with Victoria and Riley will be awesome, course he'll have to keep the integrity of the rest of the book, but the action will be so awesome. 30 days of nights was one of the best Vampire movies of all time.
  • tweeter76 IAMSWITZERLAND-1/09
That's my concern . . . keeping the integrity of the rest of the book. I am all for them hiring someone who kicks butt with the action scenes but they have to make sure the essence of the story remains the same!
  • hartsafire
i'm in total agreement with ya
  • BCullen
I agree. Hes a great director! But I think we should watch New Moon first, and give Chris Weitz a chance, instead of changing directors for every movie. But my main concern is just that the Movie does the book a great justice! I cant wait! for the first time in my life i would totally skip over summer to get to november faster haha.
  • TwiLove
i think that he did a good job in 30 days of night. The vamps in that movie scared the crap out of me..lol.. good thing stephenie made them beautiful
  • beeee2222
Lol same here. I had to look away every time they were on thje screen.. I just about peed myself lol
  • meemomoo
I guarantee a lot of people will be renting Hard Candy soon to check out this David guy's chops!
  • locheneilien
Haven't seen either movie, but I am sure they will pick a great director
  • pink_topaz06
    oh wait..
since we're talking about rumors, didn't they say that while they are filming New Moon, they also are filming Eclips at the same time which means it has the same director.
I don't know. They're just rumors but what I've heard came from a dependable source since he is working as one of the New Moon's crew.
    hmmm. confusing...
  • They're filming New Moon.
    Having an 8 week break.
Then starting Eclipse with a different director.
  • pink_topaz06
There are a lot of rumors concerning this issue..
In the end, it will turn out that none of the rumored directors would be the director of Eclipse.
One good example is the rumored directors for New Moon in this website.
None of the rumored directors was the actual director for New Moon (which is Chris Weitz).
So let's stop talking about rumors and just continue with facts...
  • twilight_lover
i dont really care who directs the movie as long as it gets done!!!!
  • twiteenhale
Nooooooooooo! i liked catherine directing from the first movie!!! I WANT HER BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • RustyHalo
Seriously??? I think anybody BUT Catherine will do a great job.
  • twiteenhale
no! i liked catherine from the first movie!!!!!!!!!!! o want her bakc!
  • mv2222
Both of those movies were wicked awesome! i think he'll take the twilight series to a better and intense level
  • TrulyDazzled
    :O YES YES YES!
I loved 30 Days of Night, he did a great job with that movie. Hard Candy looks like a good movie, I still haven't seen it. My friend said it was a good movie.
I think it would be awesome if David Slade were to direct Eclipse.
Its only a rumour though.. :(
  • LilyBelle
I'd like to see what CW does with New Moon first.
  • edwardcullenishot
they should make the eclipse and breaking dawn movie breaking dawn is the best part
  • 30yearoldtwifan
You are from Barrow Alaska kate!! after seeing 30days I have always wanted to go there!
  • Tia_jb10 (Team Pants Explode!)
theres been so many directors being rumored to do eclipse i just ignor them till its official
  • edwardcullenishot
hope they do the eclipse movie and the breaking dawn movie is the best part
  • kate4
Um... YESSSS!!!! Hard candy was so dark... I loved it! and 30 days of night.... Was scarrrry! I'm from Barrow, Ak so That's a personal favorite vampire movie of mine :)
  • i really really hope he makes it!!!
  • sharron627
He may be a pretty good choice!? story becomes a little bit more complex so as long as long as the emotions are true to the book, I'm good!
  • Elazar
I don't really remember it but it sounds familiar ok................
  • 30yearoldtwifan
all i'm going to say is if they pick him everyone 17 and older should see 30daysofnight to get what im saying. You will not be disappointed!
  • Annie
I don't think that the majority of Twilight fans - the likes of which prefer sparkling vegetarian vamps to cannibal, flesh ripping, terrifying monsters - are going to want to see 30 Days of Night. I'm a BABY, I'm not going to lie.. that's what I LIKE about Twilight, it's fantasy with some scary elements, but mostly toned down, cute and fluffy. 30 Days of Night is scary a f*** and I wouldn't recommend that ANYONE see it. If ECLIPSE, a book based mostly off of a love triage/love story with like 1 part scary battle scene is going to be made into a movie, I'd rather it not be made by someone who has directed such gory movies. It's hard to believe Stephenie Meyer would approve, I can't see her liking 30 Days of Night or having any sort of vampire vision like that movie.
  • sixrgirl
i saw it and it was really good. But I really think Joss Wheadon would be the perfect director
  • lauraseclipse
hhmm not sure... there is so much romance in eclipse... perhaps breaking dawn should be the harder core movie. Of course i've not seen what this director has done. I know they will choose well and in the end it will hopefully be good.

I'm too much focused on the newest film and hoping it turns out as good as the golden compass was... that movie was simply decadent :-)
  • RobismySL_ TeamPatzzandStewy
I heard Hard Candy was good movie!! My dad saw it... Oh and 30 days of night was freakin Awesome..Super freaky!!!! Well, as long as they are really good..I could care less who is directing!!! just make good movies, and have them follow the book!! Thats all im askin!!
  • vicyip
yup, hard candy was freaking nuts! read my comment above if you want to know more
  • Absolutely, as long as they follow the book (what would need to be changed anyway, its perfect), then I'll be happy
  • maggiegee008
oh wow! i'd freaking love this!
hard candy was such a racy movie.
    i loved it.

this better be more than just a rumor.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Yes 30days was VERY bloody and very scary and extremely detailed! It was freakin awesome (if you like scary movies)
  • beeee2222
It was definately scary. But in a good way. All I know is that I could not look at those vampires faces, they gave me the creeps..
  • well if it is him then at least we know that the fight scene will just blow our minds!
  • TwiAsh
30 days of night was a great this director could put a great vision into eclipse.
  • i have seen 30 days of night and it was wonderful i would be happy with him he is a good director i hope he directs eclispe :D
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Oh i don't wanna get my hopes up for him directing Eclipse.

30daysofnight was originally a graphic comic so he has experience with making a movie that already has a fan base that was written.
  • pauline76
doesn't look like it but yeh, change can be great! look with chris weitz!
  • vicyip
holy crapola hard candy was so intense! talk about changing the view of predator vs. prey! i know some won't know what i'm talking about but seriously you need to watch that movie! it was like the best movie at sundance one year and the budget was so low that they had to shoot the film at david's house--it stars Ellen page and the guy who plays Night Owl in Watchmen.
  • IS ELLEN PAGE THE ONE WHO PLAYS JUNO
  • vicyip
yeah that's her except she has crazy pixie style hair in this movie. It pretty much is a twisted version of child predators and the guy who plays in Watchmen, well, they make him out to be the typical version of some perv hitting on a young girl but then the tables are turned and it totally takes on a new idea that maybe Ellen Page isn't so much a victim as you would think....anyway, go rent it! it'll freaking keep you up at night!
  • JamieCullen85
Yeah this movie was Crazy!! Love it!!
  • pauline76
i think you're wrong....30 days of night is a vampire movie with josh harnett and melissa george (Alias). i did'nt remember ellen page and this guy from watchmen.....
  • pauline76
my bad...i thought you were talking about 30 days...not hard candy! sorry
  • vicyip
    oh its okay! haha
  • SO ITS A SCARY MOVIE I THOUGHT IT WAS ABOUT YOU KNOW CANDIES AND CHOCOLATES....... JEJEJE J/P
  • Wow, one of the first to comment, how exciting... I don't know, from the progress we've seen on New Moon, it looks like Chris is going to do great... so I was hoping for his brother to direct it. Is that still a possibility, or is Chris' brother definitely not directing Eclipse?
  • i have never see those movies
    are they good
  • JamieCullen85
Absolutely!! You need to see them!
  • OKAY WEL WHICH ONE DO YOU RECOMENT FIRST
  • vicyip
    read my comment!
  • OKEY DOKEY
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Holy Crap YESSSS I was be so stoked! 30daysofnight is the best vampire movie ever (besides twilight) I mean its a real scary.. real detail ..vampire movie. I couldn't ask for a better director! Oh I hope they pick him!
  • StephanieDJ
Although i liked his work I hope it wont be to "dark" for Eclipse. Maybe NM would have been more his style. Maybe he'd do a good job with BD since he like to throw blood and gore around. lol!
  • eolove
I guess I'm behind in some stuff but can anyone tell why they will be changing directors for each movie? Does Chris Weitz have another movie he's working on after new moon? or is it just the decision of summit to give other directors a chance to interpret the rest of the books?
  • joanna9898
He'll still be working on New Moon...post-production stuff (all the cgi work I would guess.)
  • meemomoo
I liked 30 Days (yum, Josh Hartnett) until the vamps started tearing people up. I felt like a real vampire isn't going to waste all that blood (it was all over their faces, all over the ground). I dunno, ever since Twilight I feel like Stephenie's vampires are the way vampires are supposed to be (it's ok, you can call me a nerd ;)) But other than that minor detail I dug the movie too!
  • RustyHalo
LOL, You mean the vamps in 30 Days aren't 'vegetarians'??? How dare they eat us humans so sloppily!???! And no, I don't think you're a nerd. =)
I do want to see it though, vegetarians or not. lol
  • beeee2222
30 days of night.. Those vampires scared me lol
  • maliciousmandy
I love Hard Candy - I think it would be ideal for edgy scenes - Although with different directors each time I fear lack of consistency - - - we shall see
  • pauline76
no idea who he is! but i'm sure they'll choose well!
  • JamieCullen85
You should really see Hardy Candy if you haven't, Ellen Page is great in it!
  • ohh read it wrong
    they are talking about it
  • wow so they have the director
    im excited
