Will New Moon be the Number One Movie of the Year?

200904191230.jpgNew Moon faces some stiff competition at theaters this year. The new Harry Potter movie comes out in July, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comes out in June, and X-Men Origins and Star Trek hit in May. Despite all these big-name movies coming out this year, do you think New Moon will reign supreme at the box office? The Twilight Examiner thinks so

Not only will The Twilight Saga: New Moon be within the top 50 most successful films of 2009, but I dare say it will rank number one.

While, as a fan of the Harry Potter series myself, I can anticipate that this summer’s release will be on par with the success of the prior films, and could see it lingering at the number one spot for the year for some time, New Moon’s unprecedented fan community (who, one can safely imagine, will see the film once, twice, three times or more) will propel the film to the top instantaneously. With up-coming films such as Where the Wild Things Are and Transformers 2, it is imaginable that New Moon will have sturdy competition in the blockbuster arena, but I still think that with the millions of eager nail-biting fans out there for New Moon that the film will take the number one spot and that it will close the year as the number one film for 2009.

What do you think? Will New Moon be the film to beat in 2009?

I think it will be ranked the biggest. I for one have never looked forward to a film being released...I don't think I ever had, especially a film made from a book! I tend to avoid these types off films because they never match up, I never seen Twilight in the cinema, simply because I didn't know it existed until I got the book and it said on the cover "now a major motion picture", saying that I went straight on the good old internet and watch it. While alot off it didn't live up to the book, I still liked it, I think only for my love off the book more than anything else.

But with New Moon I can see so far that it is going to be fantastic, I think Chris Weltz is a fantastic Director, he is doing amazing things with this film and I think it will set the bar for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, the next director (which I hope will be Paul Weltz) will want to live up to the fans hype and follow in Chris' shoes.
  • I actually saw a little blip of an article in Entertainment Weekly about some cool vampire books destined to become a movie. I was totally intrigued by the book's concept but forgot the name until someone gave me a copy of Twilight. I immediately linked the book with 'that article' and mowed through the whole series in about a week, including a couple trips to Borders 5 minutes before closing because "eek! I'm going to finish before I'm ready for bed!"

I've NEVER followed a movie this closely and don't think I could ever follow a movie this closely again. Some of my friends tell me about these other really good vampire novels but try as hard as I might, I can't get into them. I get all wigged out when the vampires have fangs and turn to ash in sunlight.

Chris Weitz rocks and I really really hope that Paul will direct Eclipse so they can work together. In a couple more weeks/months we can start a petition...

    Wow...sorry that was so long!
  • WetDishRag (AKA deedee81)
I was the same, I bought a few different vampire novels and couldn't bear to read them because I felt like such a traitor! But I recently started reading them and have got really into them, Blue Bloods, and I have the first 4 Morganville series books and have read three off them in three days, I can't put them down, there is lots off action in them LOL.
  • HannahM~UK
The only books ive read since twilight are ones for school! I cant bring myself to do it! And whenever i watch a film i make links from one film to twilight

like in pineapple express when the guys like 'i run hot' and the other guy say something like 'oh, i run cold' and i was thinking hm...just like Jacob and Edward...
  • I really should try to read something else...I'm just so stuck! Maybe I'll start with the those books. If a fellow Twilighter was able to 'abandon' (LOL) the Cullens with these books maybe I'll be able too...
  • twilover112
it isnt hard to read something else if you arent an avid reader like myself - i found it really hard to get back on track with books but i went looking for new fantasy books and found sabriel and darren shan series
one is about vampires - one just fantasy like stardust!
i havent read the vampire one but sabriel is really cool
  • amelie_noir
Same as - I'm worryingly obsessed with checking this website for tiny tidbits of information on New Moon. I am a big fan of movies, and love the anticipation building up to their release date, but never before have I proactively researched every scrap of information there is on it months before the release date.

I'm a little apprehensive about Chris Weitz though, he has had such a hot and cold career! Does anyone agree or is everyone super-hyped about him?
  • I am super excited for Chris. A director learns so much from every film and The Golden Compass was superbly done. I'm not talking about the story (that's the screenwriter) or the media cross fire (again, the story and the book that it was based on), but the films direction, special effects, overall feel, and general confidence of the actors in their roles. As far as I know, that's what the director brings to the table and in this respect, The Golden Compass was fantastic.

Did I mention that I think Chris Weitz is going to rock?
  • amelie_noir
Hmm, I think you did actually!!

I liked the Gold Compass too, I was bitterly disappointed with Dakota Blue-Richards though and I feel she let the whole film down with her fake London-accent that slipped oh so many times.

Didn't Chris Weitz produce American Pie?
  • amelie_noir
Just found that Chris Weitz did actually write the Golden Compass screen adaptation (from IMDb): "In July 2003 Tom Stoppard was hired to write the screenplay. A year later, when Chris Weitz was hired to direct, he rejected Stoppard's script, preferring to adapt Philip Pullman's work himself."
  • LMAO! And so you are right! But that's okay, cause I liked the story. Can't say I noticed the accent though...I'll have to watch it again and see.

But...then again...with my busy schedule, if I have time for a movie, I'd rather watch Twilight again. LOL.
  • amelie_noir
I know exactly what you mean, had a girly sleepover the other night and despite the fact we've all seen it 5 times, we decided to watch Twilight again...purely to pause it on Rob's face every time we thought he looked hot (ie. each time he appeared) and scream until our throats were hoarse!!

    I'm only completely fan-girly when I'm with my friends...honest 0=)
  • *tears*

Unfortunately, all my local friends are 'so over Twilight' that I am forced to obsess online.
  • Well duhhhh its gonna be the biggest movie of the yesr cos numba 1, the hottest kids r in it, numba 2, Twilight was amazing and i bet New Moon will b just as good, and numba 3, the books r amazing! I dont give a crap for those who h8 the saga just cos! lol I dont understand em' but anyways.... if you want to come to my site, your more than welcome to! Ohhhhhh and I cant 4get this! I LOVE YOU KELLAN, ROBERT, AND TAYLOR! :D
  • vikinglover76
I know! After I read the book I immediately went on line to watch it also. I am so stoked for the movie to come out. You know about my hook up with advanced tickets! I plan on going to see it a bizzilion times!

I am sooooo glad they chose Chris as director for NM. I really hope that his brother gets to do Eclipse and it would be so AWESOME if they could TEAM UP to do Breaking Dawn. I think it will be a huge undertaking but something the 2 of them together could pull off!
  • i love rob
    Exactly....you read my mind!!!
  • Elloo
WOO! I THINK IT WILL BE RANKED #1!
    Or..it better...

    :D
  • Yisel
I totally agree with you. I've never felt so much anticipation for a movie before..I mean I've been pretty excited about some movies but never this way. Twilight fans are so loyal to the series that the movie has to be and will be huge. I'm hoping for the best and so far things are going pretty good. Chris have made good choices so far with the casting, etc....so I don't think the movie will be a dissapointment...the tendency is to improve and Twilight did great at the box office....so, I personally will be there with my cousin, friends and mother..hahahaha...and if it is good as we all expect...I will go more than once!
  • meemomoo
Ditto. And if I see it slipping in the box office reports you better believe I will be back in the theater with a group of friends trying to bring it's numbers back up. If it lives up to the hype I plan on seeing it at least once more than I saw Twilight (and I will make my husband see this one and I already have vacation time projected so I can catch the midnight showing). I'm a planner (nerd)
  • RobRocks
i agree...took the words straight out of my mouth. Im thinking they are waiting for New Moon to release before giving the green light for BD
  • twicrazeD12
    i deff agree with u!!!!!!

  • IndiesR
Well said! I absolutely agree with you.
Wow, I'm amazed at what a hectic day at the zoo can do to you. You are so serious as well as inspirational today. LOL

    Is this really you???? LOL
  • WetDishRag (AKA deedee81)
I know shocking isn't it...I'm not liking it...Will, please put some pictures off the boys up I need to be pulled out off this seriousness! LMAO
  • mickey_lamb
of course i voted it would be the best, i have total confidence in that
  • ForbiddenLove
If NM is better than Twilight then I would watch it several times and even recommend it to friends and family (force them even to watch it- yeah I would go that far to support the movie I love). Just remember, reviews of NM will spread out on the web so darn fast and if the movie is not done right, well you know - we'll be very disappointed considering all the expectations we have for this movie. BUT I'm looking on the positive side - if we are very happy & satisfied with NM, no doubt it would be in the top 5 if not the #1 blockbuster movie of 2009. We’ll support them 110%. So the NM cast & all the people that are involved with that project should be thinking about how to exceed our expectations as die hard Twilight fans coz we’re their ticket to a #1 blockbuster movie. Yeah, right, I said it - we are the $$$.

I can't wait for the Twilight blu ray disk to come out on May 5, which features the New Moon teaser trailer. I wonder what the highlight of the trailer will be? Bella’s sadness/jumping of the cliff, Edward’s departure, Jacob & Bella together, Volturi scene, the list could go on and on. I'm really excited to see NM! I can’t wait! To see the final NM product and everything just makes me shiver. Darn, France will get to see it first though on 11/18 (I’m so jealous). I just hope I won't be disappointed when I see it. I would be very sad like Bella . . . Okay, I should be thinking positive now.

Gosh, this movie is really making me extreme. I'm hoping that the spirit that's in the book will be captured in the movie because that's really the reason why we fell in love with the Twilight characters in the first place. I can't wait to see Kristen portray Bella's emotions when Edward left her. That was the saddest part of the book. I was so touched by it - it made me cry. I bet if she plays it well, she will have her first Oscar for best actress.
  • IndiesR
I totally agree, I mean Twilight wasnt that great and look how it did, if NM is better than Twilight, I'm almost certain it will blow the competition away.

Yes, we are the money! :)
  • vikinglover76
There is way more hype now too. I mean, I didn't go see Twilight in the theaters until it went to our second run theater. I was a late bloomer in the world of Twi-dom. But when I did go . . . I saw it 4 times. More people are aware of the books. More people have watched the movie via the DVD. So obviously more people are going to go see NM! I don't care if we are the money either! This is the one thing in my life right now that is all "mine" per-say. No kids . . . no work . . . just me and my books (and/or movies)!
  • Jakeward
its like you read my mind!
    very well said.
  • ForbiddenLove
I think Twilight fans think in parallel thought patterns which is really great. We're beginning to feel like we can read minds like Edward and predict the future like Alice. Woooo. What a phenomenon. See what Twilight can do to you? It's really messing with our minds ; -)
  • Jakeward
    hahah yeahh=P
  • TEAM WOLFIE WOLFERS :D
YES INDEED IT WILL BE RANKED #1!
I really think that it will be #1 because it will be more epic than the first one. New Moon has cliff diving, shapeshifting,Love triangles, and more! I think New Moon the Book was amazing! And I hope the movie will be just as good. The first one was just lik Vampire,Human,Fall in love,Oh no bad vampy is going to kill you, Thats pretty average. But New Moon is going to be great!
IM REALLY EXCITED TO SEE MORE OF TAYLOR LAUTNER (AKA) JACOB BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<3
  • YouAreMyLifeNow
Maybe they need to do a poll of: If you could only see one movie this year at the theater and the rest you had to wait for DVD release, what would it be? I can wait for Harry Potter, Transformers, X-men, Terminator Revolution, etc, to come out on DVD, but in no uncertain terms could I wait an extra few months after New Moons' release date in November to see this movie on DVD. New Moon has people talking and counting the days. I think it will be huge. I had dragged two co-workers to Twilight and they said what in the heck is this movie about and when I said vampires, she kind of rolled her eyes. These ladies are both counting the days with me until November and have even read the books. So if Twilight made 198,000,000 domestically, I can only imagine this movie will double the US market proceeds. It's caught on with young and old alike.
  • twilightlover
Of course it will be in the top 5 and if were lucky enough it will be #1. If they potray what is in the book (for most of the time) and the fact of how much fans they have it has a great chance to be #1. I really hope that the make breaking dawn into a movie, if they do of course it will be #1.
  • HannahM~UK
I hope so, i think i can sneek my way into going once with twilight friend, once with famil...and once with other friends! lol! my mum doesn't like to feed me my obsession!

And also...Do you think there will be underwater scenes in New Moon...or Eclipse...or Breaking Dawn? (if they make it, fingers crossed!)
  • HannahM~UK
because i know the person who does all the underwaterfilming for movies in Vancouver...she did it for Fantastic Four, and she has done it for most films shot there...anyone any ideas...i might have to email her and ask!
  • JoUK
New Moon is the most highly anticpated sequel ever!
The Twilight film, brought a whole new wave of fans to follow the Twilight Saga books, and then there are the people that are just curious about the film.
Then there are the fans from the books on top of that!
It will be hugely popular no doubt about it.
Most popular of 2009...only time will tell, but it is being released in Nov when the rest of the big films will be released in summer giving them a few months advantage.
  • twilight_fanpire123
    YEAH
    number one all the way
    we can do it lol
  • hana
hell yeah it will be im dyin 2 see it i cant wait!
  • Woofie
I don't know if it'll be number one, and that really ultimately doesn't matter, I do think it will be successful--and this is what matters. I know it hasn't been "officially" announced that "Breaking Dawn" will be made, however, Rob and cast have mentioned it and I'd think if anyone were in "the know" it would be the cast. Not to mention every media service just accepts the fact that "Breaking Dawn" will be made.

I wouldn't under-estimate the series either or it's potential and power. That is what every critic, from what I understand, did with Twilight. It was panned, people scoffed and it was the sleeper hit of the year. I think there is a bias out there that since this is female driven base *mostly--not completely* that it has less power then something like HP or Transformers that have the more male driven, or equally driven base. However, there is a lot of passion for the characters, the series and loyalty--stuff that I'd say equals or perhaps in some instances rivals the HP chain franchise. Not to mention there is a great affection for the cast, namely Rob, that also drives this train.

HP is big...and I'll admit so my bias is open, I'm not a fan of that media chain. I don't doubt the fan love for the stories, characters, cast or Rowling. However, it's almost as equal to Twilight's affection for the stories, characters, cast and Meyer. Meyer has achieved something that even Rowling hasn't...all her books, her Twilight Saga have all reappeared on the Best Seller lists. Not to mention that Hardwicke's book even debuted at number one. That may not be remarkable if it wasn't for the fact that the Saga has been done for awhile now. So there is one thing different this time around, there is a BIGGER base than before, there is more coverage and much more media blitz--equal to HP then ever before. Harry Potter is probably big as it is, despite it's strengths as a book, because the series has been out quite a bit longer than Twilight. It's on it's 100th film practically with about 100 more to go...at least it seems to the ones not infatuated with the series. People have come to the series through the media, books, movies and the base has grown with that. The same is happening with Twilight.

And yes, HP has made "billions" from a somewhat younger base, sometimes a but younger than the Twilight base, but Twilight to come in seventh this year box-office wise, is no small feat given that it was an unknown cast, director who was mediocre in the media eyes, and a series critics claimed wasn't going anywhere. I know there is love to pit the two against each other--Twilight versus HP. Not to shoot down HP, but give Twilight it's due. It's a "baby" compared to the years HP has spent being able to lure in and cultivate its audience. In short, Twilight being as well marketed as it was, with the apparel, dolls, CDs, books, candy hearts etc etc etc...and it being a top ranked DVD isn't because it was "horrid" and "Crap". It's because it did something "right". Also, NM's debut in November will help it. Summer blockbusters will have died down by then, after spending their time in the theater's battling each other out.
  • ChrissyTina
I definitely agree with you on basically everything. And if you go back and look at box office numbers for the first HP movie (before it really hit mainstream), the numbers didn't swamp Twilight. The Twilight Saga has picked up so much in book form recently that I wouldn't be surprise if it swamps HP.

I LOVE HP so I could easily go either way, but it's been too long of a wait and the anticipation since the last one was so long ago will either help it or kill it.

Plus, about the fanbases, a lot of us "grew up" with Harry Potter. When we were 16 maybe we'd go all out and show up at the theater for it multiple times, but now too many of us are well into our 20s and only bothering with the movies one time when they're in theaters or remembering the fandom when we're in a bind for a Halloween costume. Twilight is still new, fresh, and all over the media. You can't buy the type of craze surrounding New Moon.
  • crookedsmile
FYI AUSTRALIAN TWILIGHT FANS - Just saw the promo for New Moon on the ET show today (Monday 20th) so I can confirm that Behind the scenes of NM will screen in Australia on Thursday 23rd (which in real time is the day before the USA) at 3pm on channel 9 so get your recorders set.

They said on the show today that when they put the video up online, over 1 million people accessed it. Maybe NM will be number 1 at the box office!

(Posted this on the ET blog as well - sorry if you're re-reading)
  • Hmm, I think it has a very good chance. New Moon is my favorite book from the saga so I think I'll be going to see it a lot. But I have to admit, there is some competition...
  • kerbear585
I think that New Moon really does have a chance to be #1 just because it is so highly anticipated and there are diehard fans that have been waiting and waiting for this to come out. And there are so man fansites and stuff for these and probably none for the other movies since they are like the first ones. you know? it definitely could be #1 and i think it will be!
  • TwilightFreak09
The last Harry Potter movie grossed almost 1 billion dollars worldwide. The previous 4 have grossed between 400 million-900 million EACH (worldwide) ...I'm really excited for all the big movies this year: I am a die-hard Transformers fanatic or just comic-book movies in general. I love them all. I also am a Harry Potter FREAK...but I seriously think New Moon is the most anticipated of all. I've never been so excited to see a movie before!!! I have already made plans to go to the midnight screening of New Moon, then go see it again and again and again again again... until I run out of money..lol
  • Jadey
    I think it will me.

I've never been so excited for a movie before. My stomach is constantly in a knot. I simply CANNOT wait for it to come. And I know hundreds of thousands of people think similarly aswell. I saw Twilight twice at the theatre. New Moon is my favourite book, so I'll see it multiple times.

And I live in New Zealand, and if I, and thousands of others feel the same way here, imagine what it would be like in America/UK.

There is no competition. New Moon will rule 09.
  • Catherinelluc - Caterina :)
It will be one of the most viewed films definitely, at least by me :D

    can't wait for november!!!
  • Haha, i was suprised, when I was looking for news and then..."euhm..i know this poster?!" thanks for presenting here!! ;)

i really hope, that new moon will be the number one!

    xo Izzy

Oh I know that there are many great movies coming out this year, but c'mon... have you guys taken a look @ all the comments on here? Have you not seen the anticipation and excitement? Oh my sweet Edward... uggg I know there's tonz of competition out there this year, but us fans will make it happen... even if it doesnt make # 1, it will be # 1 for me and that's all that matters... still, I think NM will have what it takes to make it to the top.... yay... I'm so excited... haha...
  • daniela
    offf course!!!!!!!!!! It totally will!!!!!
everyone is just gonna love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  • Sia
I think it will be one of the top five and could be number one if ... BOYS AND MEN WERE TO WATCH IT !!! Harry Potter, Wolverine and Transformers have guys that watch the movies also but TWILIGHT HAS THE GIRLS WATCHING THE MOVIES OVER AND OVER AGAIN SO WELL SEE !! I think Up will be one of the top because all different ages watch is just like Harry SO WELL SEE !!!

IF WE ALL WATCH THE MOVIE NUMBEROUS TIMES IT WILL BE NUMBER ONE !!!!
  • YouAreMyLifeNow
I definitely think -- no, correct that, I predict New Moon will be No. 1 for the year. First of all, I'm a big movie buff and I will see X-men, Transformers, etc, but I know I will see them only once and wait for video. No movie has ever made me read a book in my life. I hate reading, only read in school when foreced to. But after seeing Twilight, I felt compelled to try. I thought I wouldn't make it past the first chapter because nothing could be that good. Boy, was a proved wrong in spades. I read the first 3 books over my spring break and now I'm on this website posting, which is something else I usuallly don't do, because I'm so intrigued and drawn into these characters. I, too, am counting the days until November and keep checking the web for any news, pics or tidbits on the movie. This hype is huge. Not only have a read books for the first time in my life, I have friends that read the books too. I saw the movie first and loved it and when I read Twilight, even though a lot of kissing and "I love you's" were not in there, I was able to enjoy both. I've never seen a movie where two characters have moved me so much. I would think I would be disappointed with no love making scenes, but this movie has got to be the most intimate portrayal of love I"ve seen since Titanic. I fell in love with RP portrayal of Edward and his sheer energy and chemistry he had with KS as Belle.

Sorry so long, but I wanted to give my reasons why I feel this will be the No. 1 movie of year. There are die hard Twilght fans from reading the novels, and then there's people like me who never heard of the books, took a chance on the movie, then read the books and I'm just as devoted to the story and how much it's sparked something in young and old. I really believe the Twilight series is the love story of the century and will be remembered for years to come. Edward and Bella for me are the Romeo and Juliett of this century and can never be replicated again.
  • julia
I agree with you about seeing all the other big 09 movies once in theaters. My boyfriend and I are TF fans so we'll probably see that a few times, but he's already promised me multiple New Moon viewings in theater.... and I'm sure plenty of others will see it multiple times. I still don't think New Moon will be #1 of 09 but it'll be up there. Probably better than Harry Potter at least.
  • julia
Sorry what I meant by "#1" was revenue.... not quality. OBVIOUSLY New Moon will be one of the best in terms of quality, but maybe I'm biased bc I worship the series.
  • emcee
The one thing people need to know is that Twilighters can make anything happen.
And Chris W. seems to be doing a great job with New Moon.
I can see that it'll will definitely be on top in the box office.
    Never underestimate the Twilight fans...
  • amber
watch this newmoon fanmade clips . Its the best i seen so far.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiZoJHBlPAw

and yeah i think new moon could do it... There id double amont of fans this time around because of the sucsess of TWilight
  • HELL YEAH IT WOULD BE THE NUMBER ONE MOVIE OF THE YEAR
  • YouAreMyLifeNow
I also think what helps this movie is that we have over 6 months to wait for its release and it's so talked about even now. Entertainment tonight is doing the big exclusive and everyone is following this movie. I almost forgot Transformers was coming until I caught site of the trailer. New moon has the momentum that's building that can actually draw the crowds. And since i"m having Twilight DVD marathons at my house on Saturday, I already know I will see this movie more than twice at the theater. The last time I saw a movie twice at the theater, it became the number one movie of all time --- TITANIC. I think this movie may not be the biggest opening day winner, but it is possible, but it will linger on week after week longer than say a X-men and Transformers movie will.
  • ChrissyTina
It's def Top 5, and number 1 won't shock me for a bunch of reasons which mostly lead into one another. (I'm sorry this is going to be SOOOOOOOOOO long)

    1. Most of the other "blockbuster" type movies are coming out in the summer (which is typical). So they're going to combat one another and knock some of the numbers down.
    2. People don't have the money they used to so they're going to be a bit more picky with what they can wait to get through Netflix.
    3. The Twilight Saga has a HUGE fanbase and we're just crazy enough to decide not to see anything else until New Moon is completely out of every theater in a 50 mile radius (yeah, that's totally me haha)
    4. Some of the anticipated big movies are for younger audiences (Ice Age, Where the Wild THings Are) and it gets expensive to take your kids out to every movie they want to see (what with snacks and all each time) so they'll wait for the DVD for the ones their kids aren't as into.
    5. A lot of HP fans have jumped ship. The audience it still there, but instead of seeing the movies 15 times like we used to...once will suffice. The timing has been off, there isn't as much media attention and no new book to keep the anticipation up.
    6. THe media expose for New Moon just won't quit! So it's constantly in the public eye.
    7. People who wouldn't pay to see Twilight or hated the movie are looking at seeing New Moon because it's EVERYWHERE and the new cast is drawing in an even bigger audience. Plus, some people want to see things that went wrong be fixed this time around.

All in all, it stands a pretty good shot.
  • Jbells
Honestly..I think it will be # 1!!! I mean look how many Twilight fans there are!!!! Of course its gonna rank # 1...And if it doesnt well..Whatever It will be My Fav movie, next to Twilight!!!!!
  • Andy90
I'am a huge fan of transformers and harry potter but i've never been waiting a movie so much like i'am waiting NM!!!
  • TEAM EDWARD
I am a HUGE movie-buff! I see every movie as much as I can while its in theaters, & even though I am a big fan of Transformers, Harry Potter, X-Men, Star Trek, and whatever movie comes out this year, I can honestly say that New Moon will be the movie I see most in theaters in 2009! Last year I saw Twilight waaaay more than I seen any movie and I'm 100% positive I will do the same for New Moon!! And (since Twilight) I've never been sooo excited to see a movie!! Also, think of all the FANS! Of course it'll be #1!! Hehe. :D
  • Courtney
I love Transformers too! But not as much a Twilight. Its going to be at the top no doubt.
  • krladybugg290
im sorry but all i have to say is that twilight was the best movie ever!! and im sure new moon wont let us down eather, so to all the ppl that think new moon wont be #1, GET OFF THIS SITE!!!!! your not wanted here!!! only true twilight fans should be allowed to comment... and to all the true twilight fans...we need to support new moon and do everything we can to make it #1!!!
  • nemesis_robward's girl =D
i can't really say that for sure -i do hope with all my heart it gets to be #1 - but about one thing i'm absolutely positive, and that is i'll be in teather lining up to watch it as many times as possible!!!! so will many of u i think ^^
  • darn strait new moon will be the nimber 1 movie it will be SWEEEEEET lol i am sooo pumped for new moon wooo hooo yayyyy
  • STCullen
I'm certainly planning on seeing it a good few times.
  • tia_jb10 (Team Wet&Shirtless)
trust me we can certainly make it the #1. these fans are great especialy the girl fans which we mostly are and just regular girls cant stay away from the sexifed mountain men and theses sexi vamps i dont even think guys can lol =)))
  • RobRocks
They are crazy for even asking that. The twilight saga has such a huge fan base. i myself will go see it every chance I get. and to top that off New Moon isnt even out yet and people are going crazy for the 3rd and 4th. It will be #1...
  • suitejuju
I never go the movies. I have a projector at home. I get movie quality, sound, and picture in my house. I like Harry Potter.
    BUT I adore Twilight.
I'm taking the day off work to go to New Moon.
And I'm sure I'll go several times.
My bet is New Moon will be number one.
  • team-jakward!
okay, i am totally rooting for it to be no.1. but there are a lot of good movies coming out and it probably will be one of the top 5. everone can see that. but in the long run when the other films are out and new moon is just coming out, the numbers will definatly change and then we'll see what happens. my prediction is that it will ride to the top of the list by the time it has been out for atleast a few months. if that makes sense. o.O
  • RenesmeeCCullen
Of Course! Why? Wouldn't It Be 1# They Be Stupid If It Is Not Number One Look At The Kids/Adults On This Site And Then You Tell Me If It Is Number 1# Duh...Of Course It's Gonna Be Number 1#.

    OH YEAH LOVE THE POSTER
  • twihard17
awesome poster!!!!!!!!!!!! and new moon will definately be #1!!!!!!!!!!! how could it not be!!!!!!!!!! i just wish it was coming out sooner
  • One of the top 10 2009 movies for sure, but #1? I'm not too sure about that. Harry Potter fans have been waiting WAY too long for Half-Blooded Prince, not to mention Transformers, Star Trek, Wolverine, Terminator and many other highly anticipated movies. If we want New Moon to be #1, I say however many times each of us saw Twilight....we double it to ensure it's #1 spot for 2009. YIKES, that means I'm gonna have to watch New Moon 14 times! LOL, I think I can handle the sacrifice. WHO'S WITH ME??
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
    *Stands in line*
    I'm IN!!!
This will be no sacrifice for me.... lol... I'm up all for making it happen =]
  • meemomoo
I'm going to one up your challenge and go for triple. Granted, I had a hard time getting to the theater (my husband got mad when he thought I was headed for my 3rd showing, he didn't know I was actually on my 4th) but this time I'll be better prepared. If the movie is 2 and a half hours long, how many showings can I squeeze into 1 day? I am going to have to lie and say I was at work.
  • LMAO! I hear that, my hubby isn't exactly sure how many time I went as well. All it will take is a lil bit of planning & I will go see it as many times as I can. Truth be told though, Twilight has blown up SO big since November, that there will be twice as many ppl waiting to see NM. Hmmm, come to think of it, I think we are going to have to fight just to get a seat!
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
I am with you! That means 8 times for me (yeah, I guess only seeing Twilight 4 times in the theatre is considered slacking...)! But I'll be there, opening night at midnight, and then I'll take the next day off and see it again and so forth! Can't wait!!!
  • lorena103
hell yeah! im totally with you! i watched twilight 8 times im planning to watch new moon double that or more
  • lorena103
hell yeah! im totally with you!! i watched Twilight 8 times, im planning to watch new moon double that or more
  • IndiesR
I'm with you!!! We should do this, together, we can make it happen. :)

P.S. this means 2 times for me.
  • i love rob
That is a great idea!!! I'm totally in! That means 6 times for me!

I'm actually going to call in sick to work that Friday and meet a friend at the theater. We already know we are going to have to see it various times....mainly because we know we won't be able to pay attention to what anyone is saying.....there are going to be too many hot people in this movie that we are going to be drooling over!!! LOL!
  • vikinglover76
I'm with you there. I am getting advanced tickets from my step-son who works at a theater here in town for all my fanpire friends . . . we'll be rockin it all freaking weekend!
  • i love rob
Excellent....you're so lucky!!!! I'm hoping that Friday during the day won't be so bad....the kids, at least, SHOULD be in school...and if there not, then I'm gonna have to call the cops and rat them all out! LOL!!!

Hey, I need to make sure I'm able to buy tickets!!! I'll go to any extreme!!
  • vikinglover76
Well, I will be at the midnight showing at our theater. And I'm sure I'll go see it at least 2 more times on Friday during the day! I think, don't quote me, but I think you can buy tickets from the theater a month or so in advance!

  • crookedsmile
I'm with you. The HP film will pull in a wider audience so will probably be No. 1. I'd like to see a chick flick like New Moon beat those other more male films though. I'm so sick of action films with all special effects and boring plot. I consider it my mission to help NM move as close to number 1 as possible so we get more Meyer films in the future. I have already lent out my books to 8 people so I am trying to do my bit to spread the addiction.
  • Lainaaa
I agree. The twilight series hits a wide range of people yes, but not everyone. I'm thinking it will be in top 10 but I don't think it'll have enough support to beat off HP or Transformers especially because they're expected to be summer blockbusters.
  • Jessica
I'm not sure if they're talking about the box office #1 or the best movie of 2009 in terms of Oscars and all that. I think that with Box Office it will make the most money especially in the first week. I definitely think it will make more than HP and the Transformers. Why? I'm not just saying this because I'm a fan of twilight because I don't think that's something i can deny even if i wanted to :X. But I think the clues are everywhere. Anywhere I go I hear someone talking about twilight and New Moon movie. Ive never seen people want to be in the filming or the set as much as I have seen about this movie. Sure people like HP and i have no question that it will do great but I don't think people will go to the theaters to see it 5 or even times to see it as much as they will in New Moon. Even my dad wants to see New Moon as soon as he comes out and hes seen twilight more than 5 times . I guess what I'm trying to say is that while I do think the other movies are going to be making a lot of money I don't think it will come close to what New Moon will be making especially in the first week. I for one didn't know about twilight until i saw the movie like the 3rd week it came out because I friend had told me about it. As I've heard many of you happened the same way, then I read the books as soon as I saw it. So I think it will make more than Twilight because a lot of us twilight fans didn't know about it until we saw the movie. And even more fans are hooked after it came out on blockbuster. So I definitely think it will be #1
  • OF COURCE ITS GONNA BE ONE OF THE BEST
IM NOT SO SURE THE NUMBER ONE...LETS JUST HOPE
IM NOT A FAN OF HARRY MYSELF...BUT I DO KNOW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE JUST AS MUCH AS TWILIGHT.
ONE THING IS FOR SURE ........NEW MOON HAS A LOT OF FANS THAT ARE JUST EAGER FOR NOV.20 TO GET HERE!!!!!!!!!!!
ONE OF THEM IS OF COURSE MEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    pfff of course it'll be #1! :D

and I love the poster! :)
  • Lovin_the_Cullens_n_Bella
I love the poster... I think New Moon will come out at the top. You can look at all the people on this site alone and see there's all kinds of people anticipating and counting down the days until November 20th.... it'll be at the top! :)
  • meemomoo
I wonder if New Moon's fan made posters will one up the real ones (when they come out). I did not like the final posters from Twilight
  • LaPushbabyLaPush
It will most certainly be up there....I know for myself I saw Twilight 10 times at the Theaters...I will be repeating that habit with New Moon; No doubt about it.....
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    10 times? wow :D
I have to admit that I didn't see it when it was in theaters cause I hadn't read the book by then (I have a rule that book always goes first :)), BUT after a month or so I gathered a group of friends and went to the theater with a petition to screen it one more time which they did :D since then some people think of me as an obsessed freak :D
  • LaPushbabyLaPush
I know....Trust me; It didn't bod well with my husband!....It was fun though because I went several of those times with my daughters....GREAT Mother/daughter nights out!!! Then I HAD to take my sister-in-law....and I HAD to be there when my BEST friend went....The last time I went; we were in line with a LARGE group of Twilight moms...Fun times ya know...
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
hahaha now I wouldn't dare to think that NM won't be the #1 movie of the year :D
  • ahh i wish my mom would be like that xd.
anyways i saw it 2 times in the cinema. but only because i was broke and i already downloaded it :'D because - well how could i survive without it since the dvd only comes out in may here? =/
  • i love rob
I like your pic!!! I got that shirt! LOL!!!
  • meemomoo
This time around you can do like me and start putting money aside now. I will spend November 20th in the theater.
  • RobRocks
My sister saw it like 20 times in theaters. I hadnt read the books at that time but when i did,, i have watched the DVD like crazy. more than 30 times since it came out. it couuld of been made better but im still not bored or it
  • i love rob
That is awesome!!!! I watch the DVD all the time too. And I always say all of my favorite lines out loud with the movie!!! LOL! I'm such a dork!
  • vikinglover76
Well, my friends and I are dorks right along side of you! I had a Twilight DVD release party the Sunday after it was released. I had 15 girls from 12-33 in my house. We were loud and obnoxious . . . repeating lines and pausing it to discuss it. It was great. I like to watch it on my computer at night . . . I usually end up falling asleep around the baseball scene though!
  • i love rob
That is awesome!!!! I wish I had dorky friends to do that with!!! None of my friends understand my obsession!!! *SIGH* I'm so jealous!!!
  • vikinglover76
It was one of my friends at work that got me hooked! We are a crazy lot!
  • i love rob
    You're very lucky!!! :)
  • Xx tori-luvs-Rob xX
i think that the new moon movie will do really well, i mean look at how good twilight did!!! =D

i love the whole twilight saga i think its amazing !!!
new moon will defo make #1, and that poster was really good!!
i cant wait for the movie to finally come out!!! =D :P
  • jmc
I think it will be near the top, but I don't think it will be number one. The Harry Potter films have earned nearly $1 billion individually. I think it will definately be in the top 5 though.
  • marie C.
i agree at most as i am a obsessed twilight saga fan, i also love harry potter films and like transformers, but be realistic, twilight is more for girls and so the other films girls and boys like them, and yeah hp films have made more than twilight but i hope twilight make the first 3 position.
  • meemomoo
jmc, sounds like a challenge... (tee hee)
  • jmc
    Lol. Maybe it is.
  • Yeah, i think it'll do well, but i seriously doubt if it'll be number one...and don't get me wrong, i HATE saying that!
  • rukiafae
i would be surprised if its number 1. maybe in the top 10- maybe even top 5, but not #1.

especially given the first one was not done as well as it could have been. many will fore go seeing the movie in theaters and wait for the dvd. as much as i love twilight, i (personally) would rather pay to see HP - who has a history of amazing cinematography and special effects - than a twilight that might just not be done as well.

however, i do think HP will suffer more than in previous years, as the book series was completed some time ago, and fans have not had anything to get them ramped up and exited for the movie.
  • JBlack
HP fans are still here!!! lol
    Just patiently waiting is all!!
This is probably the best book in the series... so I expect that this movie will gross more than any other HP movie.

but who knows!!! New Moon might just be that awesome!
  • rukiafae
Yeah, I"m in need of an HP fix too! lol. i havent seen the trailer on TV (not a big tv watcher) but i have seen it on youtube- and it does look stunning!

I know a lot of twilight fans are concerned about some of the changes- the music- the cullen house, etc....I for one am very open to those changes as I am hoping it makes a better movie. the first one (again, just my opinion) was dreadful.
  • marie C.
agreed in all you three said and hp still strong. Hope new moon be in the first 3 spot thou. But lets be realistic twilight was in the number 7 place of the year 2008
  • Nicnixs - Never Squeeeee!!!
I totally agree with you :) I'm a die hard HP fan as well :)

Am so excited we get both this year :) And hopefully both next year too :) I might invest in one of those yearly cinema passes lol
  • JBlack
New Moon was probably my favorite book of the series... but, realistically the answer to your question is no.

I, too, am a diehard HP fan... taking into account the trailer that was just released this past week... that movie is going to be unbelievable especially considering the fact that we have waited so very long for it!!!

I really hope to be impressed with New Moon, after being somewhat disappointed with Twilight.

But again, realistically, the #1 movie probably won't be New Moon.
Although, I would NOT mind if it was!!! =D

    TEAM JACOB!!
  • Kaylie
I agree. Dont kid yourselves, folks. I love Twilight, but the Twilight movie made about $380 million worldwide at the box office, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix made $938 million. Not even close.
  • TeamJB
But u have to remember Twilight was a low budget film done by a indie director with a unknown young cast...Plus marketing for it was weak. a lot of ppl didn't go see it bcuz they didn't hear much about it...i kno a lot of my friends/fam missed the opportunity to see it in the theaters but when they got to see the DVD they loved it. Im not saying ur wrong just to compare Twilight with the what?... the 6 installment of HP is kinda unjust. They're not on the same level. I believe NM will have a better success
  • vikinglover76
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! And while I enjoy HP . . . . it is old news compared to Twilight! Sure, sure . . . . diehard HP fans will go see the movie BUT will they go see it more than a couple of times? We all KNOW Twilighters will go see NM more than a couple of times!
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
Oh you got that alright... we're so gonna beat the competition... just look @ all of us? Pfff... we're winning this thing!!!
  • IndiesR
    I agree with you.
Also, even though Twilight wasnt as well known, it did amazing and broke records. NM should not be underestimated....I say with the growing popularity, it will blow the competition away.
  • i love rob
I totally agree!!!! I, for one, have NEVER followed a movie like I have with this one!!! And I'm sure I'm not the only one!!!! Even if its not #1, it will be very close to the top!!!

I personally beleive that the Twilight followers have grown considerably since the movie came out!!! And I'm sure it's still growing! New Moon is going to make way more$$$ that first weekend than Twilight did....no doubt about it!!! Plus, like already mentioned, true Twilighters will see the movie more than once!!!
  • IndiesR
Absolutely, and us fans will make sure of it. :)
  • Lissa
Im not saying that it will be #1... but to compare it to HP does not make sense because it has been around for much longer and it has more films... What people need to compare is the first HP movie with Twilight! I agree with TEAMJB it was a low budget movie that didnt have much advertisement, but the twilightness is spreading pretty fast so I have faith in all twilighters to make it #1
  • Destined
Can't say if it will be the top film of the year because they have amazing films I'm anticipating seeing along with New Moon, but it will def be in the top with best selling films. The good thing is most of these movies coming out are summer blockbusters, when New Moon release in November people will be dying to see something great. And I think it is unfair to measure people seeing New Moon because of Twilight. New Moon has a new director and outstanding additions to the cast and will undoubtedly be better than Twilight.
  • Cullengirl
I'm going to go broke thanks to the cimena, alot of good films are coming out this year along with New Moon and I just saw the latest Harry Potter, trailer, Wow. Competition is a good thing.
  • i'm with you, STCullen. There shall be much money spent in the theater to be sure...
  • xxobsessedxx
It isn't the film to beat, but it is one of the films to beat. It comes out quite late on in the year, so we will have a good idea if the chances of it being the movie of the year by the time it comes out.

People have already seen advanced showings of the new Harry Potter film and many were disappointed by it, X-men too was released over the web but since it was a incomplete version this shouldn't affect the overall success of the film. New Moon has yet to complete filming you can't really say it's going to be the most successful film of the year, without seeing previews etc. However it has got an ever growing fan base and with many people already planning on seeing it twice if not several times it will be successful and you can almost definitely say that it will be one of the films to beat, but at the moment it might not be one of the films to beat for the most successful of the year.
  • twilover112
guys can i just say - you're all a bit delusional
    get real, think about it
will it actually be number one - could it be no.1, yes - but will it be no.1 wid it bein among all these big names wid absolutely massive - yes, even bigger than twilight - fan bases!

i love twilight saga - specially new moon - but sorry, i am rooting for harry potter
  • vikinglover76
Maybe we are delusional . . . but we also have the "power" to make NM #1! :)
  • Mimi
I couldn't agree more. While I love Twilight series and i am a hardcore fan u just can't ignore the fact that Harry Potter is huge. It's lowest realease was in the 700,000,000. More HP fans have been waiting for this 6th movie then many Twilight fans. Surely I plan on seeing both of them but I think it's a bit too much wishful thinking on peoples parts. In the end who really knows if Harry Potter will come out first, and maybe Twifans will try and beat the record. As hardcore of a fan of twilight, I have to go with HP!!!
  • RobRocks
They have taken so long to make HP that Im not even excited anymore....BRING ON THE HOT, SEXY VAMPIRES AND WEREWOLVES
  • vikinglover76
I have 2 friends who were die hard Potter fans but they aren't very excited about the next movie either. I mean, they are going to see it but it's not like they will wait in a line or anything on opening night . . .
  • twilover112
    agreed
brung the words right out of my mouth - but seriously lowest release 700,000,000!
    wow
  • RobRocks
Harry can kiss my white cajun butt. "Hater". and yes we are delusional and proud of it..LMAO
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
Well said... rooting for Harry? Pfff... lol... the MAJORITY on this site is sure as HALE gonna spend November in the theathers... lol....
  • tia_jb10 (Team Wet&Shirtless)
lol rite on but even with harry potter us fans can certainly take on that challenge. wat do ya say guys? do you think we can make new moon the #1 movie of 09' ? and with all these hot guys i will certainly watch it at least 5 time just beacuse i'll be fainting every time i see them and have to watch it again just to finish it all lol=)))
  • twilover112
haha i aint no hater yeah?
honestly i love twilight but just because all these hot - talented as they are, they dont get cred 4 that! - you're gonna see it?
  • tia_jb10 (Team Wet&Shirtless)
well no thats not the only reason im gonna see it, that part is just a plus [a HUGE sexii plus lol] but i love the book and the whole saga, thats my main reason and if these guys help more ppl come to see it im not gonna stop them. i do like hp also i will see it proli more than once since my sis is so crazy bout it and i'll drag her rite along with me to see new moon.im not really calling u a hater just a partypooper cuz ur bringin the good vibe down just try and be more optimistic =))) and im not sayin we will definitly go all the way to #1 but we will certainly try.
  • Lissa
Dats wat I like to hear.... Positive attitude!!!!! N we'll know how much it made because is over the summer so we will know the number we are aiming for!
  • Casizzle
Wow I couldn’t have said it better myself! :-)
  • twifan89
i think what might make it number one are the fans...i have read accounts where people saw twilight 23 times in the theater...a little crazy i know, but people do that and that will make a huge difference between that and some of the other movies.
  • Alex
I don't think New Moon is gonna be number one. Too many blockbusters getting out this year ! But I think that it could be in the top 5.
  • Sarah
I don't care if it's number one. I just hope it's a really great movie!
  • ElianaNoelle
I imagine it will easily beat out a lot of movies, like Harry Potter (there are just too many movies anymore) & Wolverine (again there are a lot of movies) and I love both Harry Potter & X-men but they have been making both movie franchises for the last ten years. I like the new movies like Transformers. If Transformers 2 is just as good if not better than the first one, I think that one will be the number one movie followed by New Moon, but of course it would be a thrilling surprise to see New Moon to be Number 1 rather than in 2nd place. Thats my prediction.
  • YSABELLA>>>team demetri<<<
with all this speculations going on i think the best thing to do is to just wait and see and let the numbers do all the talking........ :P
  • RobRocks
    I like the poster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • i love rob
Me too!!!! I forgot to mention that earlier!!!

Good job to whoever created it!!!
  • TheHolyThief
The poster looks amazing! Just have to say that it looks like a poodle jumping off sideways. Yeah, that is coming from someone who just woke up from a dream about dogs.

I may be murdered for saying this, but I doubt it will come out as number one. As I huge fan, I understand how many times people will see it and how large the fanbase it. But, as it stands, there are many other movies with large fanbases that provide good competition. I, for one, will probably see Transformers 2 more than once. I have not watched an entire Harry Potter movie, but the trailer made me question why I haven't. We'll just have to see.

No doubt New Moon will do fantastic, though! (:
  • i don't know..
seeing the potentials of the fans - yes, it could definitely reach no.1
i think, other years, there wouldn't really be a chance some film (not saying new moon is 'some film' HELL NO :'D but well youknow..) would do better than HP or X-men or something.
But it'll be close, i think. very close.
  • nemesis_robward's girl =D
by the way, nice poster :3
  • *LittleMissTwilighter*
i think one of the top 10 for sure. harry potter looks good and ice age 3D might do well as well. The star trek film is set to be one of the top. the boat that rocked should be a top 10 <3
Eclipse will do better i think as it has more action so boyfriends will want to come and see it too. boyfriends may not see new moon as they may get jealous of all the wolf pack muscle guys. TAYLOR <3
i work in a cinema so i wont have to pay to see new moon several times. lol *claps*
  • Not sure if it will be #1 (I CAN'T wait for Transformers!!!) but I wouldn't put anything past this movie. There is huge buzz, a loyal and rather large fan base, plus it could bring in new people as well. Especially with those silly little books doing so horrible on the bestseller list. ;-)
  • STCullen
    I'm happy being delusional.
  • SummerRain
Not a chance. I mean, it'll be good, no doubt, but... Harry Potter is coming out, 'nough said!

i think that it would surely make it in like top 10 cuz now a days there are the same amounts of fans for harry potter and twilight. And like with harry potter you get bored with seeing the movie but twilight i have watched it more than 23 times and im not bored with it. especiallly when edward first come in a scene in the lunchroom my fave part. lol
    TEAM EDWARD!!!!
  • Jessica
Lol I agree people will watch New Moon more times then they'll watch any other one.
Oh and the lunch room scene :O, his stare. I think I need to go watch it again haha
  • twilover112
jus saying there are a ton of complete hardcore hp fans - like meself - who have watched all the movies tons of times
about saw the 5th one - er - about 5 times in the cinema
one with me dad one with me mum and her boyfriend one with me mates one wid dis guy as a sorta pity thing cus he was sad :)
and the other with me m8 when it came out and can i jus say - i wos not that pysched to see it but i am now serious about the series
because of that movie, and my love for the books, i am now crazy pyshco fan girl when it comes to anything harry potter
i cant even tell you how many times i am going to see the 6th one - you may be sick
    haha - with jealousy!
  • Lissa
If you are such a fan of Harry why are you in a New Moon fan site.... You need to look at yourself boo boo because the one sick with jealousy is you. If you're here is because you're missing something from your Harry world! Go with your black magic and wand somewhere else !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • XDEMILYP
    OMG
nice poster at the top of this page!! it makes me get shivers down my spine!! cant wait to see the movie.
MY FRIEND FREAKED ME OUT WHEN SHE SAID JACOB WASNT BEING IN NEW MOON!! BUT HE IS!! NOOOO WORRIES.
IT NOT OFFICIAL UNLESS ITS ON STEPHENIE MEYERS WEBSITE.
  • alicecullen13
This poster is deffinantly one of my favorites! I have no doubt that new moon will be at the top. twilight was amazing. and now they have a bigger budget and all the actors are more experienced. its gonna be SO good!
  • TrulyDazzled
    hmm its hard to say...
I love Twilight but I also love Harry Potter.. both have a big fanbase..
I am definetly seeing both movies the first day.
I wouldn't be able to choose between Harry Potter and Twilight. (its good for me that New Moon & Harry Potter aren't being released the same day) lol I'll probablly cry when both series are finished being made into movies.
OOO and Transformers is coming out! Im so excited for that aswell. :) Oh and I may see xmen.
Good movies are being released in 2009 :)
Im not sure that New Moon will be Number one, but I think it will be close to number one.
  • Colleen
While I love both Twilight and Harry Potter, I don't see how any Twilight movie could beat a Harry Potter movie, and I'm surprised that so many people think it could. Twilight is the big thing right now, so people are losing their perspective. The facts are that Twilight made $350 at the box office. Order of the Phoenix made nearly that in it's first WEEKEND, and all but one Harry Potter movie made more than $850 at the box office. 6 million copies of Twilight have been sold, while Harry Potter movies sell 9 or 10 million. Twilight's great, but it'll never be Harry Potter.
  • twilover112
twilight will dispear after breaking dawn movie
sorry but i think all is a bit wishful thinking
harry potter has been round for so long, people have grown up with it - well, i have - and it is long enough to now be called - and i am proud to say this - a legend!
yes, harry potter is a legend
and once twilight movies are finished, i will go back to being the same old harry potter fan freak i was, am and always will be :)
  • JBlack
I think you might be right!
  • toietmoidanslememepyjama
I doubt it'll do better than HP but I think it will be in the top 5, due to the huge impact it had on the general audience. But I don't think the hardcore fans who read the books are enough to make the movie such a big hit , it needs what I'll call the general audience -that went and saw the movie but didn't read the books and thus are not totally addicted lol- to come back. I think we can take this for granted for NM (thus imo top 5 and hopefully even better) but I think that Eclipse might not do as well, since this category of viewers might be a little bewildered with NM since it's so different than twilight and will they be won over or not, who knows. I think (and hope) they will though.

And wow some people really did go watch twilight 10 times and more? And to say my friends and family think I'm crazy because I went to see it 3 times lol
  • : )
do u guys have any idea how stupid u sound?
  • TEAM EDWARD
    IT WILL BE #1!!
  • Casizzle
    I hate that Rob smokes!!!
  • TEAM EDWARD
Me too! But, you gotta admit, hes still HOT! hehe. :D
  • TeamJB
I dnt kno...I know I lot of HP ppl have been waiting for this one to come out but I think HP has been going on for so long its gotten boring...well to me it has. Plus Star Trek and X-Men attract a different type of demographics including us Twilighters so #1 for 2009 Im not sure but I hope it will I'll go see 10 times if that helps lol
  • Anna
Definitely the most highly anticipated film if not the number 1. I've never been so excited about a movie release and actually following the whole production. But New Moon better be great if they're gonna want ppl to watch eclipse and breaking dawn (if they decided to film) .
  • xxobsessedxx

    http://www.max-dan-wiz.com/forum/topics/twiligh...

Personally I think it's a load of rubbish, considering one is posted on the 10th April and we know they have been filming since then, But what do you guys think, any truth behind these articles?
  • CullenFan
Uhh...there's no way. It will be HP for sure.
  • It might make it to the top, but I dont know if it will make it to number 1, probably number 1 for the votes on girls, but hey isn't there more females in this country than males?
  • LadyLautner
i believe so, lol, well i'll be another 15 bucks for this movie (maybe 60 depeneding on how many times i'm gonna c it) b/c i'm definitely gonna c it the day it comes out and many time more and 'm definitely gonna get it on DVD!!! which will be another collection to my 4 books and twilight dvd
  • julia
Star Trek (huge American following), GI Joe (huge 30-something-year-old following), TF2 (huge worldwide following of all ages) vs. New Moon? No no no. Harry Potter and New Moon will compete against each other more than anything. New Moon won't beat out other big 2009 movies, but it WILL gain more than enough money to call it a box-office success. I DO like that they chose the release date wisely. Releasing it this summer with HP, TF, GI Joe, Wolverine, and Trek would be suicide for the people at Summit (wow there are lots of good movies coming out in 2009). Thankfully, next summer won't be too bad... Isn't Harry Potter 7 going to be the only big competition at that time?
  • twilover112
hp 7 isnt coming out in summer!
well, one of em is but i think that is the second one in 2011 or something
i dunno maybe i am wrong
  • iloverobpat
I love the Twilight Saga but I also love the Harry Potter series and I also think there are more Harry Potter fans then there are Twilight fans and considering that it is the 'Half Blood Prince' which is the second last book, then I think it will definitely be the number one movie of the year because this has been a movie that so many millions of fans have been waiting for years.
  • JBlack
    I totally agree...

Even if New Moon is a better movie than HP &THBP, there are way many more HP fans that have accumulated over the years.

& I doubt that people jumped ship just because they've had to wait.
Those people are NOT true HP fans...

I think the same would go for the Twilight series if the fans had to wait years to see the next one... although I don't know how many of you would make it!!! lol

    TEAM JACOB!
  • Rachaael
it's going to be my personal number one and i'd love to see it as number 1! I'm not sure though, there are so many good films coming out this year but it will definatly be up there with the top few.
  • nelson
Reality check! As much as I think that Chris and a upper class budget will definately put the twilight saga amongst the most sucessful franchises of all time, it will never meet the number one mark of the year. To start, we have Transformers and Harry Potter, both films that have a fan base that ran to the movie theatre on both opening films - leading them to a 300 million dollar crossing, when Twilight fan's hardly managed to take the movie onto the 200 million dollar market. It's true, New Moon might be one of the best films of the year, hopefully, and I'm even considering a few Oscar nominations for special effects and cinematography, if they do it as tastefully as it seems so far. But never will New Moon do more than Harry Potter, or Transformers, perhaps not even more than Star Trek and Wolverine. Sorry Twilighters, but get real.
  • Woofie
Well $357 Million plus something is "a bit" out of the "barely 200 million" market.
  • nelson
My bad, I wasn't specifying worlwide, I was talking domestically. But still, isn't the average Harry Potter Worldwide over 800 million? I still don't think Twilight has what it takes to make it to the number one. Sorry Woofie, The Twilight Saga doesn't have the density or the fan wave that follows Harry Potter and Sci-Fi films. You may not see them as often because they are a little more discreat and less crazy.
  • Woofie
I really wouldn't know as I haven't really studied the dedicated bases to the different genres. HP fans are pretty numerous, though I do think the HP craze has died down a lot compared to when it was in its height. I'm sure the remaining films will continue to do well, though the HP fans are also aging as the series continues out. However, I wouldn't totally blow off the Twilight base. They're definitely a different dynamic, mainly more female driven, where you can argue Sci-Fi and HP have a more perhaps equal male/female or slightly more male in some cases base. I think that is why some critics were so stunned by Twilight's success, the fact that they thought females wouldn't be the powerhouse of viewers that they proved to be.

I'd say all series though have a pretty strong and numerous base. Meyer's books all being together, the whole saga, listed on the NY Times Best-seller list together is no small feat. I'm not sure how many HP fan sites are out there, though I'd bet they'd be quite numerous. Same goes for Twilight. And I have no clue as to the fan sites regarding sci-fi films. Will Twilight be number one? Only time will tell that...but I do definitely think it will be successful and profitable and the saga is now firmly established. The other fans out there may be sleeper cells, but then again, not every Twilight fan/viewer is on the web partaking in the websites and posting. Every series has their sleeper cells out there.
  • nelson
This has nothing to do with the subject at hand - which by the way, I think you and I can stretch this sucker to its fullest extent - but are you a guy or a girl. I'm just curious.
  • Lissa
I would have to agree with Woofie in the sense that the numbers in Twilight are basically all female audience while HP has both combined.... and to be a low $37 million budget movie with poor marketing. I think it did great, some actor/actresses get paid that much to make a movie!
  • jess
umm hells no! sorry but harry potter will definatly be no 1 movie of the year ! there are thousands more people that like harry potter than the twilight movie(s) and plus the hp and the HBP has bin moved from last year to this year.we had to wait another year so there will be plenty of eager fans wanting to see it ! incl me ! dont get me wrong i love new moon but there is just no competition there.
  • New Moon will have to at least be in the top 5 . . As many fans there are already searching the web for update on the movie (( me included)) i can already see the long line im gonna have to waite in to see the movie . . . . transformers and harry potter are gonna be new moons biggest competition cause they have a strong following as well . . it'll be interesting to see who ends up on top
  • cutesweetiezzz
New Moon has a lot of competition this year. All these great films are coming out, but I'm pretty sure it would rank in at least top 5. The Twilight Saga has tons of dedicated fans and we'll be sure to beat those other films. I'm definitely going to see New Moon more than once. This would be a very very interesting year.
  • MizzPatzz
It doesn't matter to me....I just want to see New Moon !!!!
  • Twi-Hardness
GUYS be realistic!! There are TUNS of great movies coming out that will win over New Moon! Just face the facts!
  • jules60
I don’t know if it will be number one or not but it will be up there. Someone said people don’t have the money they use to they are absolutely right! I am picking and choosing where I spend my hard earned cash. I have decided to see Star Trek, and New Moon the other movies I’ll wait for DVD. I think New Moon will need all of the Twilight series fans young, old, and in between if most of these people go see the movie than it will do well. I am really excited to see Italy, so I will be there with my daughter and my three nephews who also want to see it.
  • TEAM EDWARD
I really love the poster... :D
  • ilovemasochist
4 all u skeptics. I think your wrong. I dont know but lets just see how well Little Ashes does? I think New Moon will be a phenomenon because its not just about the movie Twilight its book and the Saga there is also another key component and that is Robert Pattinson. Harry Potter has a much younger audience. Twilights has fans ranging from all ages. SM books knocked HP out of the #1 best sellers list. And I think that there are a lot of people like me that read the book after seeing the movie, that never heard of it before that, and that have told many others making them hardcore fans also. So I think there is a unprecedented chain reaction that has been created that no body realizes or has yet to comprehend how big this movie will be. And Rob has a fan base all on its own... so we'll see... I think its going to be big...brunie oxox...Oh and Zac's "17 again" did 24 mil this weekend...My bets on Little Ashes...lov ya Rob.
  • ilovemasochist
OK I'm so mad with all you small breed of skeptics, that I dicided to just scroll down and press "Like" to all who believe New Moon will be #1, you all rock and I send you all virtual chocolates lol. And for the rest of you my Stephanie forgive you.lol
  • It's possible. I'm not saying it will or not. It could be beteween "The Soloist", Transformers 2, and I really can say it's possible-"New Moon".
  • mushy
the hell it will be the number one movie for 2009.. just look and see how many fans twilight have,,,
  • rachaelwsz
There are A LOT of big blockster movies out this year... I think New Moon will have a chance. Twilight fanbases are HUGE. :D I've got a feeling that New Moon will sidetrack HP this year.
  • I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, but will probably only see it a couple of times. With New Moon, i'm pretty much just going to start a tab at the movie theater and move on in :) Even though i'm hardcore Team Edward and New Moon is my LEAST fav book i'll still be watching it ALOT! Twilight has GOT to have the largest fan group of all those movies! But we still gotta show love for Harry Potter :)
  • LochNessieMonsters
its gonna be hard but if any fan base can do its twilighters!
ps: god i love these fan posters, these people have some serious talent!

is there any program out their for free on the internet that can let me do this kind of stuff?
  • yohana
por supuesto tengo grandes espectativas ene sta pelicula y se que sera la mejor del año 2009
  • ilovemasochist
    eres muy inteligente lol
  • just as there are many twilight fans
    there are harry potter fans
and xmen fans and so on
to me i believe that harry potter will do better i may get alot of heat for this but...
harry potter is WAY better than twilight the books and the movies
dont get me wrong i am a big twiight fan but
harry potter just outshines twilight sorry
  • nelsonomar
I guess, but I think this new movie will bring together the same mix of people that Harry has, except the little boys, which I honestly don't think they'll appeal to vampire/werewolve/girl triangles - lol - ahem - at least I didn't when I was younger. But I just hope people don't forget that these are all awesome movies, and the numbers are well, just numbers, in the end I will go see Harry Potter Like 30 times and New Moon like 20 times, but I'm just saying, though numbers are numbers in the movie world there're some movies who just own the box office - The Twilight Saga might well be on it's way, but not yet. And I still think people are basing these numbers on the fans, and they think that just because Twilight has a concrete hype at the moment, which will like all things - jonas brothers hence - die, that the movie will come over all, but the sci-fi and the nerds are hiding in their huts waiting for summer clock to struck so they can go spend all their well earned money on films so not like New Moon. So I'm just being realistic - box office wise.
  • sam
i think the only real competition new moon will have is harry potter. i think twilight came out of nowhere in the theaters, what i mean is i did not see trailers or anything anywhere but it surprised me how popular it was. after that i think many many ppl will be anticipating new moon cos the twilight saga has now become HUGE
  • sam
    ps team jacob :D
  • Ingeyla
sure, HP has a huge fan base, transformers has a huge fan base n x-men 2 but dere is sumthing in twilighters which sets us apart frm da other fans n dat is da undying love n unwavering support dat v give 2 twilight n everything n everyone related 2 it. admit it ppl, v r crazy fans who will do anything 4 our twilight. have u ever seen da kind of reaction dat ppl have 4 da new moon set pictures, posters, trailers etc etc? have u ever seen dat kind of reaction 4 any other movie? i don't think so. anything which is new moon related spreads like wild fire these days. everyday ppl spend so much of their tym on internet 2 find n see da set pictures dat cum out lyk everyday. den wen da poster came out it was such a big thing. now dat da teaser is out ppl r going ballistic n w8ing wid bated breath 4 da complete trailer. do u guys thing twilight was an extraordinary movie dat it did so gud on da box office? i dont think so, 2 b honest. it was gud but it was actually da twilighters who made it so big. so, wid new moon once again its gonna happen dat no matter wat happens n how big da other competing movies might b, da twilighters r gonna spend every penny dat dey have 2 make new moon d biggest movie of da year. i really have dat faith in my fellow twilighters cuz i kno im gonna do da same!
