The fountain being erected in the main square of Montepulciano, Italy for New Moon is coming along at a rapid clip. Recent pictures indicate that it looks nearly complete. In addition the pictured thrones may be props to be used by the Volturi in the movie.

Entertainment Tonight, who were the first to gain exclusive access to the Vancouver New Moon set, have just revealed that they’ll be doing another similar project in Italy! Thea Andrews from ET revealed this news in the pictured Tweet. Hopefully we’ll see thorough coverage this time!

There is an article about New Moon in the issue of Entertainment Weekly hitting newsstands soon, and it has some amazing never-before-seen pictures from the movie shoot in Vancouver. The juicy pics include Edward kissing Bella, Laurent in a purple jacket touching Bella’s face, and Bella’s dress with the papercut scene!

Robert Pattinson attended the AMFAR Cinema Against AIDS event in Cannes today, and he broke out the black tie attire dressed to the nines. Hosted by Sharon Stone, also in attendance was Bill Clinton.

UPDATE: Robert Pattinson was auctioned off at the event! There was a charity auction and bidders vied for the chance to meet Robert Pattinson and get a kiss on the cheek. Bidding went up to €20,000, ET reports–

The vampy leading man was auctioned off today in Cannes for the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS 2009 Cocktail Party. The bidding got so high that Pattinson was split between two bidders, who each paid €20,000 for the chance to meet, greet and win a kiss on the cheek from the ‘Twilight’ idol.

The clocktower/city hall in Montepulciano, Italy was outfitted with a stunning array of red flags and banners today in prepration for the New Moon filming which will begin there very shortly. These join the ones spotted off the main square we told you about yesterday. TwilightersItalia says–

They’re preparing for Saint Marcus day! Today a pickup loaded with red flags and ensigns was spotted in the main square, Piazza Grande. A few hours later all over the front of the cityhall there were those flags pinned. Meanwhile the fountain is now almost finished and today it was painted with waterproof so now it seems a little more whitish!

Lainey Gossip has a new entry where she gives an account of New Moon star Robert Pattinson’s red carpet appearance in Cannes yesterday–

And Pattinson has solidified his new super celebrity status as Summit successfully maneuvered their golden boy through Cannes this week culminating on the carpet last night at Inglourious Bastards where he received a very, very enthusiastic welcome. Some girl collapsed, fell to her knees, when his image was beamed up on the big screen.

[...] She says he chainsmoked and laughed a lot and his shirt was open at the neck and this was delightful to her. She also noted that when he’s comfortable and out of the spotlight, he hardly touches his hair.
