David Slade Spreads the TwiLove: Addresses Earlier Comments

by Will on May 5, 2009 · Comments

in Eclipse

david-slade-eclipse.jpgWe can all rest easy now–there’s nothingto worry over concerning David Slade’s heart being in the right place as the director of Eclipse–he sent a personal email to Laura and Lori at the fabu Twilight Lexicon clearing everything up about some off the cuff comments he made last year–

Dear Laura and Lori

I would be grateful if you could distribute this statement to the fans of Twilight:I would like to address some statements that I made regarding Twilight.

When I made these comments, I had neither seen the film nor read the books. I was promoting a comedy short film that I had made for Xbox and every pop culture subject was seen as a possible comedy target. I was being silly and none of the statements were from the heart.

Of course, I have since seen the movie and read the books and was quickly consumed with the rich storytelling and the beautifully honest characters that Stephenie Meyer created.

I would like to reassure everyone involved that I am invested in making the best film that I am humanly capable of, and that I am acutely aware of the power of the original books we serve.

Please be rest assured this statement is absolutely from the heart.

yours sincerely

DAVID SLADE

Aww, how sweet. Wanna cuddle lil’ buddy?

[thanks, Ashley!]

dude its not gonna make a difference in how awesome the movie is going to be but wa he siad earlier is really how he felt and now he has to eat his word like a dork cuz now hes got the best oppt to make a come back in his job as a director...

Have you seen his other films?.... yah...
  • TheHoneyBear
In my opinion, I don't think David is the person who makes this movie... a movie. (if you get what i'm saying.)
he's the one who delivers the movie.
and the person that we should be addressing our comments to is Melissa Rosenberg because she is the individual that builds the foundation of this movie.
she starts it off, makes it different but still significant to the book, and creates the directions. so, basically, IN MY OPINION, she is the person to watch out for and to see if she did what she was supposed to do.
  • Kelana
tsk..tsk... That was very predictable. Nice try, Mr. Slade. But you're gonna have to work extra hard to prove to some of us that you can pull this off. No blame on you, though. You can certainly claim the right to freedom of expression. This is a bloody democracy, isn't it? I didn't go ballistic when Chris was slated to direct "New Moon" because I have seen his works. And he is one of the most tactful directors I have known.

As to Mr. Slade's case, I'm adapting the "give him the benefit of the doubt" attitude too. But fact is, words cannot be taken back once they're out. Trust is fragile. Sorry, but in my case, Mr. Director-to-be will have to earn it, after what he had said (whether it was a joke or not). I think it is not fair for an artist to judge another artist's work without scrutinizing it first. It remains to be seen if Mr. Slade can deliver. I have seen his other movies and his mastery on the visual effects and gritty aspect of movies are undoubtedly remarkable. I will have to wait and see how he will direct the romantic and emotionally sensitive scenes in "Eclipse". So I'm keeping an open mind too. And as long as the Queen is not yet yelling "Off with his head!", I guess she trusts him with her "Eclipse". Her judgment is the most important for me.
  • ZaraLovesTwilight
I love twilight but not everyone does, he probably thought it was "corny" or whatever as he thought it wasn't his cup of tea, who blames him? I don't because he never read the books but now he has, he knows that it's great and as he is a director, he liked eclipse and the series that much, he was willing to take on the challenge and direct it, so it's all in the past and of course he will follow the adapdation or none of the fans will like him and he won't get that much more money as no one would really want a director with a bad reputation.

    Bye for now!

    Zara X0X
  • TheHoneyBear
oh give him a break. so you hate him? go ahead. he's not gonna care and that won't stop him from directing ECLIPSE. if you keep ranting and ranting about him, of course he would want to impress us fans because he probably thinks he "owes" us with the comments he made back in November. so he might give us a really good adaptation of ECLIPSE!

so let's hope for the best, suck it up, and just wait for the movie next summer because that's all we can do. and if we keep fulminating about Slade, we're just gonna make it worse for him and probably pressure him or something.

and if you were Slade right now and realized you said those "negative" comments about the movie you were soon going to direct, then wouldn't you want to give out an apology? i bet that's what all of you guys would do... so please just forgive him...

coz this is getting out-of-hand and boring my mind... SO ANY MORE NEW MOON SET PICS????
  • I told y'all so! Bwahahahaha!

I hope everyone is as comforted and reassured as I am after this letter. I have complete confidence that David will do awesome with this movie. I feel better knowing he has seen the movie (though I didn't really care) and that he read the books. Also, again, he is capable of doing the violence and romance. Just watch 30 Days of Night already and naysayers will see that.

This incident is just solid proof of how judgmental this fan base is. As I have said before, it both bothers and pisses me off that anyone who doesn't speak love, obsession, and adoration is thrown under the bus. Not to mention, if a cast member steps out of the perfection bubble we encase them in, we aim poisonous words at them. It is that aspect of the fandom, that at times makes me ashamed, to tell friends/co-workers/family members that I love Twilight.

Example - Kristen's psycho situations comment.

In our eyes (some that is) those involved need to be absolutely perfect. News flash my friends there is no such thing as perfect. I understand manners of professionalism. I would much rather see all of them cracking jokes (as WE DO) and so forth than be mindless drones who cater to our every whim. They really do not owe us, as fans, a thing. Especially if our disrespect is aimed toward them.

Perhaps those who are so quick to judge should let go and relax. Obviously this was a joke. I still wonder if some of you even have a humor fiber in your bodies. Even though I can understand the concern. But, are you always as perfect as you expect directors and the cast to be? I know I'm not. I make fun of Twilight the movie, and the books, all the time. I even voice dislike for certain main characters. I even said to friends, as David jokingly said, I would rather someone shoot me than see Twilight.

As for the "greed" argument....I wonder how much each cast member was paid to return...how much Chris was offered to direct.

GO DAVID GO!! *sorry for the lecture!!*

(Edit : Keep a look out on the Starz Movie Channels for 30 Days of Night. It's on Starz Edge right now. Give it a shot. The dude turns himself into a vamp to save the woman he loves. *LEGASP* Hark...is that....romance?! In Slade's movie?! He even fights the bad vampire to save her. Dear Carlisle...where have I seen that before?)
  • Mac
yeah money talks doesn't it David? I don't believe your "sincere" apology. You would have never taken back your comments if you hadn't been offered the job as director. Summit, who's running your company anyway?
  • TheHoneyBear
imagine if you are in his place right now, wouldn't you do the same thing?

if you weren't offered the job, would you still take back those comments?

no i don't think you would and i don't think Slade would too. it's all part of the common sense you would have if you were never offered the job...
  • Jennifer
Okay, I feel better. LOL....just really didn't want someone in there who is not in love with Twilight as much as me or the rest of us. Hopefully he can do well by the book, and I am rooting for him. Takes a big man to retract that statement.... KUDOS to you David Slade!!! :D
  • aussiegrlnz
All I can say is that he's a man trying to save his job as director. Who really knows how he really feels about the movie or the books. None of the fans really know him personally.
Let's just hope he is passionate about the project and makes it a great movie.
  • lo
Are you serious Summit? This guy was an ***. Someone should get the radio clip, it's bad and post it on this site. He wasn't kidding, he was being mean and making fun of the series. He said he would rather get shot than watch Twighlight, he said this in a radio interview. Too bad I really like 30 days of noght. Guess a few mil will make a man sing a different tune. Slade from Twi-hater to Twi-tard. Whatever, he sucks.
  • nikitajuice - HisNeckIsMOINE
Honestly, I save my judgment until AFTER I've actually seen his work on Eclipse.
But he better do his best, Eclipse is my favorite.
  • TEAM EDWARD
OMG! I never met anyone who's fave is the 3rd book like me!!lol. I'd just thought I'd tell you cuz now I'm excited!!!lol :D

And I agree, he BETTER make Eclipse good...or else....
lol. I think he'll do a good job tho! :)
  • nikitajuice - HisNeckIsMOINE
    Ha, very cool:)
Usually Edward-fans prefer Twilight, because it's all about him.
But me, as a complete Jacob-girl, I like the dynamic between those three in the third; VERY entertaining:)
And about that Slade dude.... I don't think it really matters what he said or meant or whatever, as long as he does a good job on his own bit of the Saga. And he's not that stupid and messes it up...come on, Summit signed him up for a good reason, it's not like they didn't have alternatives.
And to be quite honest, I did not find Twilight so flawless as well; But not liking the crappy CGI doesn't mean one hates the story. But that's just me.
  • quinny
yay, david clear the rumors. and i guess he is intimidate by summit who always browsing the net...lol..the twilight saga fan could be brutally invade the net and crash people image with little words, but in the first time i read your comments, i knew it's from the past..

anyway, i believe you man and i hope you could make eclipse much better and much dark, i mean it's a battle and fight stories, and please, i love you once again..good luck
  • twifan89
whatevs. i just want him to make the movie well! hahah i love the last line "wanna cuddle buddy?" LMFAO =)
  • nemesis_CarolinaCullenCoven!nH
ok, he made a mistake before w/ his joke (wether he meant it or not) but he's revindicanting now...even though i would really appreciate if he revindicates by giving us an amazing movie....and for some reason i think and want to believe he will....
  • neev
    well well well,
    haha, that's kinda cute :D
  • FOR PETE SAKES!

What he said was obviously a joke, and he didn't mean it. It was funny. He has a light, humorous tone when he said it, showing that it was a joke.
I didn't think the movie was that great either.
He didn't want to say it, but the radio dude kept pushing him to say it.

Him and Rob are similar. They make jokes, it gets out of hand, and you get a lot of angry fans. Chill pill.
  • TEAM EDWARD
    I agree with you!!lol.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I agree! Its that british humor. I love it!
  • Exactly.
Probably one of the reasons why I'm cool with it because I live in New Zealand.
    Americans need to relax.

    ^.^
  • 30yearoldtwifan
LOL Im American myself and I find the British humor hilarious!
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
Well, all I can hope is that he truly meant that and not just said it b/c now he's in to film one of the Saga's movies... I think he's funny and everything and has some talent but when I read the previous post I was really upset and just hoped that he wouldn't ruin the movie for me!! I guess I'll continue giving him the benefit of the doubt and see what he makes of our beloved book *crosses fingers*
  • cutesweetiezzz
Same here, I just hope he meant what he said. I hope he didn't just say all the stuff to win the respect of us. I thought what he said was extremely ridiculous and rude. I'm just glad that he made up for it. And if he does that again, I don't think I'll forgive him, even if it was a joke.
  • crazyjulieta
well I was never aginst him doing Eclipse, I'm sure he will give it a cool touch, I wouldn't mind it being a bit darker anyways... but whatever path he chooses I'm sure he'll do a good job...

but this statement right here my friends is nothing else than crisis PR at it's best...
  • pauline76
whatever....i suppose he's forgiven....only idiots never change their minds!
  • OCDJenni
I"m copying what I said just a few minutes ago to the article showing his actual hard words: I'm gonna voice my opinion on here, whether any of you like or agree with it or not. Were the words harsh? Yes. Does that mean he should be fired from being the director of Eclipse? No. We all know people in real life or on the net that have said some really horrible things about our beloved movie/book. Some of them still hate it with a passion, but some have changed their mind. No big deal. So why would it be so wrong for him to be in that category? He made a comment or joke about a movie/book he knew nothing about or some pre-conceived notion about....and has learned otherwise (whether prompted by money or not lol). I think he'll still make an awesome movie. I think he's still capable of that despite not being a fan at first. If you take HIS movie and thoughts on vampires (30 days of night) and compare to these vampires, it's no wonder he was quick to bash it. Calm down. Summit has not let us down yet....cuz remember not everyone was happy with the cast choices at first either. It'll work out :)
  • kygal
Yeh! Feeling much better and going to watch the end of 30 days like someone suggested? I never made it that far before.
  • abbyskrilla
looks like someone is trying to cover his butt...
  • i am very happy he has tried to say sorry to the twilighters out there and that i say kudos to him ........but like i said i will judge him after he directs eclispe not on what others say about him or how people think this is a fake apolgy i will accepts this and have great faith in him for eclispe :D
  • Moriah
Yeahhhhhhh NO. I still hate him haha.
  • mayaish (Jasward all the way)
i agree with Brooke_Black, it was just a joke. lay off him
i think he'll do well (i hope anyway) and who knows..
we should give a chance first then judge
  • noname
What a relief!!!! he is finally taking his job serouisly. 4 now... he just really irrtated me when he said he didn't see the movie, and he didn't read the book, that was just bolgna!!! ugh!!! atleast he said it was a joke!!!
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Let's all bake him some cookies, come on folks at least he was man enough to apologize. Hey Indie where are you?
  • coopah
i'm actually really relieved... after reading his comments i was worried!
  • MandiCullen
I'm sure he is truly sorry for making jokes. I doubt he would take on a project that he was not truly interested in or was going to enjoy. I mean I am sure there was a lot of directors who wanted to do this movie, he had to fight for it.
  • trish13
i have faith in him, he's hones at least. He's probably all about vampires/horror/thriller/psychotic stuff but I'm sure he knows what love is. Hopefully, Stephenie Meyer's books will inspire him to unlock that creativity of his in the twilight world.
  • Dee
Sure, now he's getting paid.... real nice.
  • RobRocks
Now...I feel alittle better about the movie.....Im still keeping my hummer keys in my hands though....LMAO
  • utopia76
im hoping for the best and hoping that this was all a big missunderstanding lets just hope he does a good job on Eclipse or else there will be the wrath of shada to deal with lol
  • twilightus
LOL --- Well David for the time being you are safe from being castrated by me!!!!! Good response -- at least you are smart enough to know you needed to put one out there for us all to read!
  • jules60
Let's hope for the best, and give the man a chance. He will be okay LOL
  • Binta
Way to clear the air baldy! Come on and make mama proud with Eclipse!!
  • TeamColdAndHot
Let's hope he can pull off Eclipse :)
  • bookobsessed
So far David I'm not impressed. I hope you put a little more effort into Eclipse then you just did in your PR apology.........Of course I'm still fuming over Megan's comment so I'm not being very objective at the moment. I'll reserve final judgement until I calm down.
  • mschicklet
sounds like you're having a bad day so far :( Hopefully the NM teaser is posted soon to perk you up!!
  • bookobsessed
These two definitely have picked the wrong time of the month to mess with
    me.
  • Katie87
ya sounds like a load off....

"Ooops now that i got the job, I need to take back what i really meant last yr and cover it up with a bunch of loveydovey twi crap to make them happy with me n see the movie am gonna direct!"
  • meemomoo
Give the man a break. He cracked a sarcastic joke that was taken out of context, it wasn't that big a deal in the first place. Can you honestly tell me that everything that comes out of your mouth is to be taken literally? If Stephenie approves than I'm open to him.
  • Katie87
dude its not gonna make a difference in how awesome the movie is going to be but wa he siad earlier is really how he felt and now he has to eat his word like a dork cuz now hes got the best oppt to make a come back in his job as a director...

Have you seen his other films?.... yah...
  • ishta
did you mis the part about not seen or read the story. I smell that these people who are still against him are the same that did not want him in the first place. I take MEYERS over your opinion any day. She has talked to him and approved his visions.

    SLADE gets my SUPPORT

remember the ones e-mailing to get Robert off twilight
  • mschicklet
I think the David Slade thing and the Rob thing are two different arguments. As I've said before, I think the biggest reason people are "against" Slade or at least skeptical of him the way I am is his previous work... we want the romance aspect of Eclipse to be respected. We don't want it turned into a violent or "dark" film. But yes, all we can do is trust Steph and the filmmakers and wait to see what Slade does....
  • Lovin_the_Cullens_n_Bella
I agree with you mschicklet.....very good points.
  • ishta
my thought exactly his comments were just an excuse to write angry e-mails because some were doubting his ability. I say look at the ending of 30 days of night on youtube and think about the conversation he must have had with MEYER that made her say, this is the right way to go.

At least last night people were gathering votes for a campaign against him, as the did with Robert.
  • phillygirl_19119
I agree with you mschicklet. He's an unknown and his so-called "comedy" comments do not appeal to the hearts of Twilighters. I'm going to accept his statement. Now that he has opened his mouth and inserted his foot unwisely, I think he will make sure the Twilight fans are given Eclipse exactly the way we pictured it....the romance first the action second. It will be at his and Summits box office peril if its not. We'll see.
  • Orla
    1,2,3, : Awww...
  • Brooke_Black (loves Chaske)
I knew he was joking. People take every little statement to heart nowadays. Where's everyone's sense of humor?
  • The Popper
    sure, sure.
  • MB . Team Slade Brigade 3/09
    nice comment, jacob. ;)
  • BAM6AM88 -- Kristen is love :)
you kno, i say that now. lol "sure sure" just like jake! it was completely by accident at first but i like it now! lol
  • Lovin_the_Cullens_n_Bella
    Very good point....
  • bean_Bad 2 the RathBone[Mar09]
Agreed - all publicity is good publicity and all that! I loved Hard Candy - would be really interested to see what he does with Eclipse...
  • Mrs. Robsessed
backpedaling.....not as impressed as everyone else that he made a 'statement'.....no other choice really considering the die hard Twilight fans. This is a perfect example of why you don't shoot your mouth off though. I really hope we don't love the love story part of it in Eclispe bcuz of him. I know he's kind of a psycho thriller director and just hope he can capture the sexual tension that is so imminent in Eclipse...Bella and Edward's relationship is taken t o a whole different level in this book and it's the sexual tension thay just kept me hooked..and the triangle!
  • you have to kind of give him the benefit of the doubt though becuse before you really see the movie or read the books you really dont get it yet..when i first saw stuff about it, i was like..wow thats probably going to be so dumb but i heard a lot of great stuff about it so i decided to see the movie and start the books..and now im OBSESSED! lol..i read all the books in like 2 weeks and watch twilight everynight when im going to sleep...so i can understand how maybe he felt one way before and completely different after because i was the same way :-)...and i agree about the whole sexual tension part, i really hop he can recreate the feeling i get when i read about it since, like you said, he's more of a thriller movie kind of guy..ttyl
  • Mrs. Robsessed
i can totally see someone his age making a statement to that effect about a movie such as Twilight. But I think it's a perfect example of why one shouldn't be so judgmental. On the contrary, I didn't think it was dumb at all when I started seeing all the press/trailers start rolling out on it. I remember clear as day sitting in a movie theatre w/ my daughter last summer when we saw that trailer and said, "oh we have to go see that,' b4 my daughter even said it. Swear to God, I had never even heard of the book ( i know iwas in a cave-sorry!) Well, needless to say that trailer got me hooked...read all of them and have reread them. But I am a sucker for most any love story.....however gooey, silly, or stupid they are. That's probably why it looked stupid to David....it's just not his thing which is why I got nervous when they announced him. I think Chris Weitz looks awesome and here's hoping David follows suit!
  • p.s. did you read the draft of midnight sun online? its sooo good...i really hope stephenie meyer decides to release the whole version some day :-(
  • Mrs. Robsessed
funny you should ask that because i am on pg 50 but it's very slow reading on the internet because my computer is very touchy as far as getting it to scroll to the next line...i can never get it exactly on the spot i need. very frustrating. I really hope she finishes it too. That's why I luv Rob so much...he said he even read that to prepare for Edward which explains why he was so awesome. I am sure she won't even consider finish it until all these movies are made. She' so much as said, "i am too busy." bummer!! I am more than obsessed....if there is a slow Rob day on this site i have to go look for old interviews bcuz I need my fix. But it has become seriously masochistic bcuz every time I watch him I get so sad...i want one of those, i need one of those. I'd just take a night. I wish he'd auction himself off for a night and I would be high bidder. Probably wouldn't be able to do a thing w/ him bcuz he might need to take me to the ER-haha!! And I am so freakin excited that we are going to get more of him in NM than we probably anticipated. At first i was really bummed bcuz I heard rumors that this was Jacob's movie-Jacob schmacub!!
  • all you have to do is press "enter" and it goes to the next line after the bottom of the page you just read...and i know, i saw an interview where he said about reading midnight sun to better prepare for playing edward, and after u read midnight sun, you can totally tell..like sometimes when he laughs or makes a certain expression its bec ause of a thought he had in the book....so ya, hes amazing, duhh..lol..i fiquered they would make a way to put rob in new moon more..i had a feeling when i was reading the book, like i was thinking jeeze theres not much rob in this book, thats going to suck for the movie but i kept telling myself that instead of just hearing him that she would see him too and thats how they would incorperate him and i was so glad when i found out i was right! lol..it just wouldnt be the same without my robby :-)...i sooo cant wait for new moon...and im trying to get my hands on rob's new movie "how to be" but i cant find anything that says when it will be out...ugh...just have to keep looking i guess...well, have a good day :-)
  • i totally agree about the making judgements thing...cause wow was i wrong lol...i take back what i said about it looking "dumb"..when i saw the trailer i just didnt really think about it is more what im trying to say but ya i was DEAD wrong haha..i guess i just didnt really think they could make any other vampire movie that i would like better than "interview with a vampire" so i didnt really pay attention to it...but i have a good feeling about all the movies..i think that its such a HUGE hit that they wouldn't risk someone making a bad one..and actually maybe someone who does like thriller movies can give a good edge to it ya know..idk, im excited for them either way..i sooo can't wait for new moon..i was excited to hear that its going be a little bit more dark than twilight...ugh, i cant wait..im so obsesed that its sad...lol
  • Laura
    Good for David Slade!
I was concerned that the original comments were true and if they were, how can he be involved with Eclipse? But, now, I am glad that he has cleared it all up. I can now begin to look forward to Eclipse.
  • lauraseclipse
hhmmm i think i may be coming around to thinking this dude can pull it off... I will give him the benefit of the doubt and hope his comments here are genuine and "'from the heart'" as he says.
Ok maestro, let's see what you can do :-)
  • Ciggy_
Dont worry man its all good! I am very forgiving..... but Miley Cyrus no.
  • im sooo happy to see this because when i read the first thing, it made me a little nervous that someone who seemed to really dislike the whole twilight thing would actually direct a movie from the twilight trilogy! i was like wtf lol. I was scared he wouldnt put the passion and commitment into the movie..so reading this was a big "phew" hahaha..yay
  • twigirl
Come on David! It has nothing to do with Twilight being so successful...really!! Oh and a for sure hit at the box office! In my opinion a PROFESSIONAL in the film industry would have seen the films and/or read the books BEFORE making a statement like that!
  • Mac
Good try David but it's not going to work for me. If you don't have the common sense to avoid rash statements like the ones you made about Twilight then I have very little faith in you as a director. I really wish Summit would find someone else.
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
Sheesh, give the guy a break! He made some off-color joke about it w/o seeing it (which was actually rather funny IMO)... who the crap HASN'T judged something w/o knowing anything about it?? That's right. No one!

And there you go.. he addressed the fans directly. He apologized. He is devoted to the project and has since read the books and seen the movie. Give him a chance!

And on two sidenotes.. the guy looks like my uncle. haha. And Will, thanks for making me snort out loud at work. ;P Your ending comment cracked me up.. luckily no one heard me, and I was able to reign in my laugh. heh.
  • JulieL
Absolutely! I remember when my daughter told me about Midnight Sun. I told her I didn't think there was any way to write the same story from a different POV without it getting monotonous. Boy was I wrong! I love what she's posted more than Twilight so far.

I think he showed that he takes his job and the fan expectations seriously by addressing a letter to the fans. Classy move IMO.
  • applecrack
I'm glad that he cleared that up. I would hate the thought of someone involved and didn't care about it. But we all say stupid things and they come back to haunt us! lol
  • Nikki
Good! I'm glad he responded to that...i feel much better. Hopefully since he said he read the books he will make a great Eclipse!
  • Irishgirl
"Aww, how sweet. Wanna cuddle lil’ buddy?"

Ok.....that made me laugh!! Love it!
  • mschicklet
Ditto. Cute dog in your pic BTW!
  • Gemma
    Back-track much?!
  • stehfuhknee_hale
Thats RIGHT! You BETTER take it back, Davey, because the Twilight fans would have been coming for your head on a silver platter!! lol =p

    No but seriously. -_-
  • SarahCullen - TeamKeepthePeace
    Awwww.

Okay, I forgive him. To me, this shows that he sincerely wants to bring Eclipse to life to the best of his ability.
    I'll give him a chance. :]]
  • Rob_is_my_Kryptonite
I hope he is being sincere and honest!
  • I am so glad he wrote this! I LOVE the communication between Summit and us 'crazy fans'. They don't have to but they do.

Does anybody know if Harry Potter fans got the same love? I wasn't ever a Potter fan, so I don't know.
  • pamloves
    i dont think so.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
well he is going to be the director whether people like him or not.
  • pamloves
i was talking about harry potter stuff from above sry for the post. i think he will be a great director.
  • mschicklet
I don't think so, but I also don't think there was this much "controversy"
  • Ummmm, I remember reading some pretty heated articles...

Just makes me love and trust Summit even more...they rock in every way.
  • FL95 (JoJo)
Definitely didn't seem to be so much controversy going on with Harry Potter movies... other than the fact that they were supposed to release #6 LAST NOVEMBER and then bumped it to this summer so they could make more money that is.... but I'm not bitter... ;)
  • mschicklet
LOL I keep forgetting about the Harry Potter movies because of the date pushback. Bad marketing tool on their part. The newest trailer looks cool though.
  • FL95 (JoJo)
Yeah I remember going "well I'll show them... I just won't go SEE IT"... yeah right... I'll definitely be in line the first weekend. :) The trailers do look cool.... I'm thinking it might be just enough to get me through the summer of forever waiting for New Moon's trailers etc... to start coming out...
  • mschicklet
Oooooh this might be a long shot but I wonder if the "official" trailer for NM will be out in July w/ Harry Potter? Not sure, just speculating.

OH YEA, and about trailers. I've been glued to by stupid blu-ray player all morning waiting for the BD Live New Moon teaser that was supposed to launch today.... Anyone hear anything about that?
  • FL95 (JoJo)
OOOOh, that would be cool of them to show the NM trailer at the HP6 movie!!!

Haven't heard anything about the NM teaser - I just hope someone posts it on YouTube when they get it since I do not have a Blue Ray player! :(
  • i love rob
    Thanks David!!!!

Now, you better do a damn good job with Eclipse!!!!
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
    YESSSSSSSSSSS!
  • Neoma
"I would like to reassure everyone involved that I am invested in making the best film that I am humanly capable of, and that I am acutely aware of the power of the original books we serve."

ohh, that's so sweet. I didnt quite like that the director of the series was actually making fun of what he'll be directing himself :p
  • ancha85
That really is a nice comment. I appreciated reading that from him. Lets us know he cares about the Saga and our love for it.
  • daniel_cullen
Kudos for David! He knows the back lash that would ensue if he didn't correct his past comments. I've seen people stay away from Director's movies for less.. So good for him for taking control of this immediately!

I'm actually excited that he is the director. He's done a bang up job on his other films.

Don't let us down David. We love you now but we can hate you just as fast (LOL)!! kidding!!
  • 30yearoldtwifan
People need to get the image of 30days out of there head. He obviously knows Eclipse is about romance to. Give the man a chance. OK I'm not going to defend this anymore, people who don't like him have there reasons I have my theories on why, so its not gonna matter what I say.
  • Kassielovesthecullens
I love how there were so many people saying "I can't stand his ugly face" among other off the subject things yesterday. I think thats mostly young immature people that are vain in the fact that they think a pretty face will make a pretty movie....dumb dumb dumb.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Yeah thats what upset me, I mean there were so many personal comments against him.
  • mschicklet
Yea but you just have to weed through those comments I guess. Most of us understand that if you know what you're doing, then that's all that really matters. I got sort of upset with the "Will a male director do as well as a female director" thing that was circulating a few months ago.... Emotions are emotions. Gender SHOULD be a non issue when it comes to directing.
  • I concur!!! Give the guy a chance!!
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
Ok ok. I'll give the guy a chance!
  • LMAO.....look us brits are fantastic...we produced your gorgeous Rob didn't we....David Slade will be a lean mean killing machine when it comes to the fight scene but I'm sure he'll get all the romance right to...he's knows whats at stake...HIM because we'll all be after him if he screws it up!! lol
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
I trust you TSH, take me to your leader.
  • TWloverFromFaraway
I hope he will make the best film that he is humanly capable of. I really hope that he will do even more, because, well Eclipse owe more!
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I know kassielovesthecullens, I really dont understand why people love to jump on the negative and bring someone down.
  • Kassielovesthecullens
I personally think he did a great job portraying the love in 30 Days of Night....The last scene was a killer...made me cry....he can do it guys....a little faith please
  • FL95 (JoJo)
I'm anxious to see what he does with this scene from Eclipse:
Abruptly Jacob's expression shifted, and he was staring at Edward with an odd, speculative expression. His eys narrowed like he was trying to do a difficult math problem. I felt Edward cringe. I glanced up at him, and his face was contorted in what could only be pain....
So many good scenes to do in that movie.... can't wait... and New Moon isn't even out yet.... sheesh.
  • mschicklet
Is that when Jacob is remembering seeing Bella after Edward left? I can't wait to see that brought to life.
  • FL95 (JoJo)
Yes! That whole school confrontation scene I thought was great... Jacob insisting she should have been told, Edward insisting that there was no need to tell her, and all the boys placing bets on who would win a fight between them...
SO MANY terrific bantering scenes in that book....
  • La_Tua_Cantante
The night in the tent was so great between Edward and Jacob too, can't wait to see that part too.
  • mschicklet
Yep...Taylor's gonna have to work on his badassness... I remember Jacob having SUCH a huge attitude in Eclipse and Tay is SO sweet. Can't wait to see his "range" or whatever.
  • FL95 (JoJo)
Yeah, it's definitely gonna be a fun one.... aside from all the newborns coming after Bella and all. ;O)
  • ancha85
Eclipse is my fav, and with the look Jacob gave Edward at the prom, I think Taylor is really gonna' bring it!
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I agree, it was also a love story with Eban and Stella (Eban turning into a vampire to save her) I think people havent read the comic to understand the movie.
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
Good to know he's had some experience with romance. =) I really didn't know anything about the movie - haven't seen it - but now that you say there's some in it and how well it's done, I'm sure he'll handle the love triangle (and each separate angle of it!) just fine.
  • Kassielovesthecullens
I never read the comic...so I'm just going off the movie.
  • mschicklet
BUT how accurate to the comic was the film? Because the Twilight series is supposed to connect to all kinds of viewers -- not just loyal fans to the book. So the key elements and emotions of the comic SHOULD come across in the movie to even a newbie (someone who hasn't read the comic), otherwise they're not adapting it accurately enough. I'm just asking.... I haven't read the comic.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
He stayed very close to the comic, Very close. The comic was very very bloody so was the movie. He made Barrow Alaska from the comic, look exacly the same in the movie. The world he created from the comic was very simialr.
  • mschicklet
Then good. That usually doesn't happen... I usually hear tons of "That movie was NOTHING like the book!" I hope he stays close to the Eclipse book as well :)
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I guess everyone has there opinion on what exacly "close" is. I can tell you I have some 30days comics here, and its VERY similar to the movie.
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
You and joanna have had his back all along. I do hope you both are right. I've had my serious doubts. I wish Stephenie would post something to back him up. Nothing from her on this and it had me worried. I'm putting my faith in you and in him. Mr. Slade - DO NOT DISAPPOINT!
  • FL95 (JoJo)
AMEN, people really have to try hard to remember that sometimes (smirk), people in the press just say things to stir it up... unfortunately.
I think he wrote that very well, and I can't wait to see what each director does with their movie.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Thank God he did respond because I was really getting a migrane from defending his butt the past day and a half lol
  • mschicklet
Yea, but at least try to understand people's worries... not necessarily about his Nov comments, but in general about his "abilities" to direct a sappy romance movie. considering his past work.... of course I totally believe people CAN have range, but it's understandable to feel nervous when you care so much about these books ya know? Just illustrating that there are two sides.
  • ishta
go to youtube and look at the ending of 30 days of night, it is really strong and makes me think that this guy knows how to do romance.
  • kate4
It was a nice finish to all the bloody stuff =) I like
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I do get it msscicket. I respect peoples worries, just have a littile trust. David Slade is amazing, He will bring Eclipse into another world.
  • mschicklet
Hope you're right. Either way, I AM excited to see my favorite book of the series brought to life. And in like...... 13 months LOL!!!
  • ♥lovesthacoldnhotguys♥
OME!!! Eclipse is your favorite too?? awesome lol.. i LOVE all of them yet Eclipse is my all time favorite... i think its cuz of the love triangle and the battle scene lol... i hope he does well with those scenes in Eclipse. :) I have some trust in him now (just a lil lol)
  • mschicklet
lol the love triangle part of it was actually my least fave. I wanted her to focus all her attention on Edward. At least she picks him though (of course).

The reason Eclipse is my fave is because a lot of the Edward/Bella sappy quotes are in that one. Plus they're in the "same place" (he's not trying to avoid eating her, he didn't leave, etc) so they focus more on their relationship. And the proposal was sooo romantic.
  • TwilightRobGirl
Exactly! I love Eclipse because of all the "love" between Edward & Bella. This is where their relationship really grows. Oh and the proposal- so romantic. Slade was wise to write a letter to the fans; we're a protective, passionate, VOCAL group. They don't call us Twi-hards for nothing! I must say, however, I didn't find his letter as reassuring or heartfelt as Chris's when he took over from Catherine. But at least he wrote one. I'm willing to keep the Twifaith & give him a chance.
  • I LOVE exactly what you two said! It's perfect. Eclipse is the one book in the series that I just can't stand to put down. If she had combined the first part of BD with Eclipse oh man I would NEVER stop reading it LOL. It's the movie I'm most concerned about because it is my favorite. I was willing to let the mistakes in Twilight slide because it's my second fav but if they mess up Eclipse its gonna get UGLY!
  • ♥lovesthacoldnhotguys♥
YES!!! the proposal part is like the best!! i loved it!! i was like crying cuz he proposed lol.. it was really romantic! Edward is such a romantic guy!
  • mschicklet
Yep. He's basically the perfect guy... pretty much the only reason I kept reading the books (I started w/ Midnight Sun when she posted it on her site.) Those books (bc of the romance) are such a great escape :)
  • ♥lovesthacoldnhotguys♥
I know right... i would really appreciate it and love it if she can finish it... yeah, it has the same ending like she has said but we need to know what is going on with edward and his side you know?? lol and yes, i agree, we would go buy it... and again, it is an AMAZING book and one of the best books i've ever read.. EVER! lol
  • TwilightRobGirl
Ok, I must admit, when I first heard about MS, I thought it was a lame idea. I was like, "We alredy know what happens. Please." But boy was I wrong. I am in love with Edward Cullen and hearing his thoughts is the best present ever. Steph would be silly not to finish it. It will sell a million copies; although, at this point, I'm sure it's not about the money for her. She needs to finish it for herself and for the fans. She always said she'd love to see all 5 on her bookshelf next to eachother. Hoping she'll follow through. I'm thinking after the BD movie, she'll finish it off. Fingers Crossed.
  • ♥lovesthacoldnhotguys♥
Uh, your tellin me... lol.. and i love midnight sun cuz you get a better understanding of edward and the books are my escape from everything lol...
  • mschicklet
I just wish Steph would finish Midnight Sun. I UNDERSTAND feeling disrespected, but more than anything she's just hurting her potential sales (every Twilight fan would go out and buy Midnight Sun if it were released), and she's hurting all her fans over ONE PERSON'S mistake. It's sad. Midnight Sun is one of the most incredibly things I've ever read.
  • Kassielovesthecullens
i hope this helps to shut up all the negative comments that were going on yesterday. Are you all happy now?
  • RedRei
    Summit's damage control,as always
  • Marystat
Good of him to send that letter. OK I forgive him. Then I will say sorry for just saying "money talks" then in regards on jumping on the bandwagon. That was my reaction to his earlier Twilight comments.

Hey ppl do mistakes, and goodness knows I am not beyond making them myself. So yep I'm willing to cut him some slack and hey taking time to write this letter and ask for it to be redistributed to the Twilight fandom, he just just have made some statement and said "hey I was joking, get over it folks!" So yep I am willing to cut him some slack. As for now having read the books and seen the movie. Well he has to do SOME research to direct Eclipse too :-D. It is good that he enjoyed the Saga though!
  • 30yearoldtwifan
    I Love My FREAK!!

    You Rock David!! xo
  • vampyrgrl
Why does each movie have a new director? Just curious:)
  • MegAggie2002
Because of the timeline they are on. While New Moon is in post-production Eclispe will be in Pre-production. That would be very stressful for a director.
  • vampyrgrl
    Thank you. That makes sense!
  • ancha85
Totally agree. Hopefully, that is what Summit is planning. We need an awesome special effects guy for Reneesme.
  • mschicklet
Yea but I'd love it if Weitz could come back and do BD. I just know that with his VFX skills (and connections) on his side, Renesmee will look incredible. That was Steph Meyer's biggest worry about BD being made into a movie.
  • mschicklet
Thanks David Slade. Now, please don't f--- up Eclipse. Don't forget about the romantic stuff (ex. the proposal)! Can't wait to see what you can do!!

Just hope he doesn't try to turn it into a violent slasher vamp movie like 30 Days of Night. Bc that is just NOT what Eclipse is all about ;) I'm skeptical... but hopeful. Can't wait to see how it all pans out.
  • kate4
30 days of Night was a graphic novel, I think. :) But I think that with that ability to create the gore he can do Eclipse justice :) Like you said, the love story is very important though. But with Melissa Ronseberg behind the screen writing....It will definetly be a toss up :)
  • mschicklet
There was a NM script circulating around the internet yesterday and supposedly got taken down some sites bc of threats from Summit.... I'm not sure if it's real. It just says it's a 2nd draft dated December 08.... BUT I did read it and if it is the real one I think Melissa Rosenberg learned her lesson after Twilight -- stuck closer to the book.

But it also might be fake. In that case, who knows what we'll get in November when NM comes out :/
  • kate4
I did read that..hmmm. Well if it IS closer to the book, which the pictures form the entertainment sites are posting indicates...I will be beyond thrilled. I mean the books are sooo good that by sticking close to them will only benefit the movie. I love the Twilight movie because I love everything twilight related, but from a non book fan, like my husband, he said it was alright. He said he was a little confused on how the jump from acquaintance to love of my life came about... I told him he should read the books to understand, but whatever :)
  • mschicklet
Yea my boyfriend refuses to read the books lol.... he said "I saw the movie. I don't need anything else in order to know what's going on." I actually didn't read the books til after I saw the movie and got hooked (started w/ Midnight Sun though). The movies do need to make sense to non-book-fans, but they also need to be respectful of the material on which they're based.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
ha! I knew it! :) David, you're the best! :)
SEE, HE READ THE BOOKS! :P
  • malena
OHHHH MYYYY! he has really felt the "twilight load", and now he´s got to apologize for everything and starting to sound like chris weistz making the best film he can with all his passion and sight put on it....I think he has actually receive admonition from the studio, the writer o better yet, the twilighters....hahaha!!! Welcome to the twilight saga!!! hahaha
  • cullen2
Yeah, he made that comment back in November before he read the books and saw the movie. He's okay, he's on the Twilight saga team now! He saw the error of his ways, lol.
  • MarcelaN
Honestly, I didn't read the saga until November right before the movie and was not at all crazy about it before and didn't get the "craziness". So I can forgive uneducated comments David Slade made ;)
  • mschicklet
Hope he didn't lie about that LOL sorry just playing devil's advocate. I'm glad he read the books. I think that's the only way to truly bring the characters to life. Now if only Kris would read ALL the books and not just Twi and New Moon (she said she's trying to "experience" it all with Bella, rather than reading ahead).
  • See I can totally understand Kristen reading each book as she goes. Think of it like this...she read Twilight to focus on the Bella in that story. She does her research, studies the material, as so forth, to grasp the Bella of Twilight. As New Moon approaches, she does the same thing. Her mind is not clouded with the Bella of Eclipse or Breaking Dawn.

Bella progresses and grows as a character with each book. I think it's incredibly smart of Kristen to not move ahead. Hope that made sense haven't had my coffee yet lol.
  • TwilightRobGirl
Very good points. I can see waiting to read each one to right before movie production starts. Hopefully she will do that. She's got to finish NM, then jam off to film her Joan Jett movie, then report for Eclipse in August. Very busy girl. I hope she makes the time. Personally, I would not have had the self-control to stop after NM. I give her props for that!
  • Wow, talk about self control! But then again if I was actually getting to PLAY Bella I wouldn't be in too much of a rush either. I'd be real content spending time with my costar LOL. As for little ole me, I couldn't read the books fast enough. My whole world just shut down for 3 days while I devoured the books. What can I say, I'm a Twilight whore. LOL
  • TwilightRobGirl
Twilight Whore! LMAO Love it... I'm going to steal that saying, okay?
  • Go right ahead, I don't wanna be the only Whore out there HAHA!!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
seriously Kristen read only Twilight and NM? wow, and that's a poor excuse she came up with :P she should read all 4 if she really wanted to dig into Bella's personality!
  • TwilightRobGirl
How could u stop reading after NM even if u "wanted" to for artistic purposes? (I'm not buying her excuse, btw). OME.. I was "bitten" last fall right after BD came out & thank goodness, as I read all 4 books in a week. Had I started the Saga in 2005 when Twilight was first released, I would have died waiting a whole year for each subsequent book. Talk about torture. Anyhow, back to my original question: how could she NOT READ Eclipse & BD?!? Especially considering that the books are written from Bella's perspective? Just as I was really starting to love KStewart, I'm disappointed & disillusioned. *BIG SIGH*
  • That actually makes sense to me. Especially for people who wont read the books and only plan to watch the movies. Taylor's doing the same thing cause he says he doesn't want to mature into a spefic part of jacobs charachter before he's actually supposed to. It makes a bit of sense in my eyes.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    hmm good point :)
    I guess I didn't consider the non-reader's perspective :)
  • mschicklet
I can see where they're coming from but to me, if you're a good actor you can portray whatever amount of "character development" is necessary no matter how much or how little material you read ahead of time.
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
Ok, you called it! My fears are temporarily assuaged. At least he had the guts to confront the issues. Still nothing on Stephenie's site about Eclipse. I hope that you've been right all along. Don't mess with my Eclipse, man!
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
I don't think she's updating her webpage anymore....all the good stuff is here!!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    ha! *smiles with satisfaction*
I believe in David, I hope he won't abuse my confidence!
Maybe Stephenie didn't have a chance to meet him yet...
  • mschicklet
I guess she wants Bella's naivety to shine through in her performance. Or something. Last I heard Rob's only read through Eclipse. I hope he's read BD since then. I'd love to hear his reaction lol. BD definitely has a lot in it!!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
Maybe. We'll get the chance to judge her decision while watching NM :)
hahaha I'd like to see Rob's face when he was reading it!! (if he did)
  • twilightus
Rob has since stated that he has read all 4 books, and New Moon is his favorite. He also made a comment at the Academy Awards that eluded to the fact that Breaking Dawn would be made into a movie. His comment was after being asked about being in a Triology, and he said something to the effect of -- not quoting here, we will now have to add Breaking Dawn or something to that affect, he did not hesitate about it or it was not negative, it was like he was happy about it. This was back in when March, is that when the awards show was?????
  • mschicklet
He actually READ Breaking Dawn? Or just said it's going to be made into a movie?
  • phillygirl_19119
He said he read Breaking Dawn.
  • twilightus
He said he had read all the books, and then when asked a question about signing on for the triology, at the time he'd signed on Breaking Dawn had not been released), he said to the interviewer something to the effect of well now we will be doing Breaking Dawn -- not exact words, but something to that affect. I saw the interview yesterday, someone had posted a link to it on one of the Web sites.....
  • mschicklet
I know! Especially at the part when Bella finds out she's pregnant. LOL I hope he does the commentary on that dvd (and on all of them, he was the funniest part of the commentary on Twilight).
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
hahaha I caught myself wishing I was Kristen... AGAIN! LOL
a propos the commentary... did you read this: http://www.buddytv.com/articles/twilight/buddyt... ? I laughed so hard my stomach hurt! ;)
  • that's pretty great of him to respond to all the negativity!
  • holy crap, was i the first?? that never happens! lol
  • mschicklet
Congrats :) Usually people type "first" but when their comment is posted they're actually like the 3rd lol
