Eclipse Director David Slade on Twilight: “Just Shoot Me”

by Will on May 4, 2009 · Comments

in Eclipse

200905040725.jpg David Slade, who was recently announced to be at the helm of the sequel to New Moon, Eclipse, was on the radio in November and offered some pretty brutal comedy about Twilight. The host asked Slade to tell a joke he had apparently posted at some point on Twitter–

…and so yesterday we were trying to find a movie to see and we’d seen all the good ones, you know, and there was nothing really coming out this weekend that we really fancied at all and having directed a vampire film and really gone for something completely different to the kind of romantic, you know, repressed hormone teen vampire movie we really weren’t interested in seeing Twilight but a lot of people said lets go so I wrote -

“Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid? Twilight at gun point? Just shoot me.”

[That’s like] a poem in a way [...] at this point excites me even though people think I’m a really violent and unpleasant person I actually do have this romantic violent side to me. Maybe I should have seen Twilight.

Granted, the (very hyped) host asked Slade for the Twilight bit twice after he admitted people may be offended by it, but you’ve got to wonder how different Eclipse will be from Twilight after these harsh words came from Slade.

Listen to the audio at Slashfilm.

[thanks, Rachael!]

he kinda scary looking isn't he?
  • OCDJenni
I'm gonna voice my opinion on here, whether any of you like or agree with it or not. Were the words harsh? Yes. Does that mean he should be fired from being the director of Eclipse? No. We all know people in real life or on the net that have said some really horrible things about our beloved movie/book. Some of them still hate it with a passion, but some have changed their mind. No big deal. So why would it be so wrong for him to be in that category? He made a comment or joke about a movie/book he knew nothing about or some pre-conceived notion about....and has learned otherwise (whether prompted by money or not lol). I think he'll still make an awesome movie. I think he's still capable of that despite not being a fan at first. If you take HIS movie and thoughts on vampires (30 days of night) and compare to these vampires, it's no wonder he was quick to bash it. Calm down. Summit has not let us down yet....cuz remember not everyone was happy with the cast choices at first either. It'll work out :)
  • Rob_is_my_Kryptonite
This morning while I was driving to work, the radio station played an ACTUAL voice clip of David saying horrible stuff about the twilight movie. It just like reignited my anger towards him again even more b/c I heard him actually saying the harsh words. I really hope Summit picks a new director!
  • edwardfan101
I'm right along with ya icha2307! But English is my first Language! LOL
I guess he is saying that watching twilight would be like someone shooting him? sick joke i guess. if that was even a JOKE!!
  • icha2307
English is not my first language..so I don't get what he really means..
could any of you guys,,tell me what he really means by saying that? ^^
  • quinny
eclipse should be more dark because there is story of battle of vampires and werewolf. please people get yourself read the book again and tell me that eclipse just a love story, have you read all the words there??? it is dark, a lot of dark than twilight and new moon and it's my favorite book, eclipse is a complex book about vampire (old and young)and werewolf and they were fight, so much fun and please breaking dawn is the love story books because only gives us lines no fighting and no battle...

you do the best david, i am sure the fans is more grow up when eclipse is out, i really hoping this is my best movie too for the movie twilight saga. good luck.
  • BAM6AM88 -- Kristen is love :)
geez, dusnt sound like eclipse isnt goin to be very lovey! lmao. more violence! woo! lol im sure summit will not let him take the romance out of twilight....cus then there no twilight. i think slade will make eclipse a violent romance! hahahaahaha wow.... i cant WAIT to see this
  • Elazar
The man is entitled to his oppinion I saw Henry Cavill and Emily Browning in at least one of their movies or more and I am convinced that they could have done a bteer job especially Browning in the LS movie such a great performance.!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • bella
oh my god. stop freaking out. HAVE YOU HEARD HIM SAY IT? he sounded amused and diverted when he said it. his comment was just a little joke. so build a freakin' bridge and get over it. he already said it, so LET'S MOVE ON. it's not like he's trashing it or anything. if he liked the script for eclipse, then HE MUST REALLY WANT TO COMMIT AND DIRECT THE MOVIE. then ding ding ding! oohhh what's that i hear?- that means he doesn't hate twilight. he was chosen as director because summit knew he wanted to the movie/book justice. as far as i know, that's his motives and he doesn't want to offend anyone before he said that comment.

    *************************************************

oh and he's directing a new horror movie called "COLD SKIN" (adapted from a book with the same name) on MARCH 2010... what do you guys think?
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I'm not saying what he said was nice, BUT you have to understand Twilight is not the type of movie he would normally see. Eclipse is way different then Twilight! So if the fans are expecting to see another Twilight from Eclipse maybe you need to read the book again? Its mature, and has killing in it. and romance. oh yes... it does. Slade is going to ROCK eclipse. I cant wait!

Again 30days WAS a GRAPHIC COMIC with many fans before the movie, to say it sucked has nothing to do with Slade. The script was already there as Eclipse will be.
  • Wanda
I'm sorry, but he sounds like a spoiled brat in need of a good wake up call. With this kind of info hitting the net, I hope Summit reconsiders their agreement, or teaches this arrogant idiot some humility. If there's one true thing about the entertainment industry it's that there's ALWAYS someone else better than you out there. He needs to seriously remember that simple fact.
  • Elle
can we just bring chris back instead?
    :'(

maybe they'll bring him back for bd.
    petition, anyone?
  • phillygirl_19119
WHERE'S THE FRIGG'IN PUNCH LINE?!!! Oh, that was supposed to be funny? I have a great scense of humor. I found it to be offensive and not funny. This is what this guy thinks of Twilight? Then why in the hell did he sign to come on board with Eclipse?!!

I'm really angry right now. This guy had better apologize or explain what the hell he meant and I mean like real soon!!
  • LWintz
Did he really not even see twilight, and hes going to be directing eclipse?? this is messed up.. why is he directing eclipse when he thinks so low of twilight. yeah the movie sucked, but he still needs to see it, he probably doesnt even know anything about it except for all of the money it makes. I think anyone directing these movies has to read the books. and not just the book of the movie they are directing, but the whole series... theres so much foreshadowing, you have to know whats coming next. and really understand why the characters do the things they do.
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
*Worrying* Oh GOD!!! Please don't let this man ruin Eclipse for me... PLEASE!! Joke or no joke... that was not something nice to say about our beloved movie especially if he's set to direct another movie from that Saga... oh please... I'm scared now... He better not ruin it or else... he's gonna get his wish and MIGHT get shot.... TOTALLY KIDDING!! I'm so mad right now.... damn... I'm praying he didn't really mean those words... he BETTER not have.... grrrrr.... *goes into vampire mode*
  • ohmy_feathers ♥ Team NO VIDS
It was a really dumb thing to say. Well I hope they know what they are doing with this guy! He seems a little too cynical and arrogant to even want to direct a "vampire romance" movie. I wonder what made him say yes..... $$$$? :(
  • T-RoxSox
Okay...this guy is not the right director for Eclipse. But I would think Summit would know what they were doing by making him the director. So I think I'm going to give him a chance.
  • Morgan
Why again is he directing New Moon????
  • Annie
TELL ME AGAIN WHY HE IS DIRECTING "ECLIPSE"!?!?! IT'S GOING TO SUCK SO BAD. SOOOO BAD. He directed a gory, tasteless film entitled "30 Days of Night" about sadistic, cannibalistic vampires that rip apart peoples faces and he says he would rather be SHOT than go see "Twilight." OBVIOUSLY he thinks he's a big shot, you know, very critical of these "teeny bopper fan films" or whatnot. I DON'T WANT HIM DIRECTING THIS!!! OBVIOUSLY he's just in it for the money. I don't care WHAT you have against Catherine Hardwicke (yeeeah, she's a little nutty, and a lot of things could have been better).. but these men that are directing the films now are very clearly in it for the money. The current director did the worst butcher job I've ever seen of my life with "The Golden Compass," it is NOTHING like the book.. now this guy is literally going to have Edward butchering up humans and stuff, it's going to be AWFUL.
  • mickey
he said this in november lay off him. any director would say that cuz twilight was actually a terrible movie!!!
  • Annie
Twilight was "actually a terrible movie"? What, why would you say that? What a fan. Good luck with this guy who made "30 Days of Night," a gore-fest with no real plot, and the new director who did a horrible job with "The Golden Compass" (it was a TERRIBLE movie with big names, but no substance, NOTHING like the book.) At least Hardwicke stuck to the actual plot of "Twilight."
  • allie
30 days of night was a comic book series. You should read it before you state that it has no plot, and was TERRIBLE. Also he stuck very close to the series, almost to a tee. So to someone concerned about how he will do Eclipse- you should probably know that.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
THANK YOU ALLIE!!! I so agree! I have been trying to explain that all day.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Not a recent comment everyone.. oh 6-7 months ago he said this.
  • Let me just say...thank goodness you are another voice of reason in this thread! Even though I understand the concern everyone has.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Thanks TeamWolfPack! I try to think sensible ya know. Though it does get tireing to try to explain sometimes on here lol
  • ohmy_feathers ♥ Team NO VIDS
Just goes to show that things can always come back and bite you in the butt! Well I hope he has a different mindset now.
  • Team Jasper
well i have to admit twilight was deffinitly no oscar movie ( he looks like that kinda director) and well i love twilght saga sooo much but take it easy ppl that was a funny joke i personally really like it. ppl take these so personal its like get ovr it!!!!! we know u love twilght but its a joke.

i love twilight but im sure that the nxt movies will be great.

p.s. really hope they make breaking dawn..if they dont ill....ill.....ill stab somebodey with a fork.

    lova ya jazz
  • Jennifer
So the dude is getting ready to direct Eclipse, and he says that. What a moron. I don't think he has any idea what he is talking about. In my opinion you have to love the saga to direct the movies, but whatever.
  • EmilyCullen
To tell you the truth I'm a little pissed off about this. Sure, I can take a joke. And maybe this would've been funny if he wasn't so involved with the films. But the fact of the matter is: he is directing a movie IN THE TWILIGHT SAGA! And he should probably watch what he says about it or he's gonna have a bunch of raging TwiFans down his throat!
  • mama B
As we have not seen NEW MOON yet....so no one knows the changes Chris has made....and this JACK-ASS David Slade obviously has NO appreciation WHAT-SO-EVER for this saga maybe Stephanie and Summit should go back to Catherine Hardwicke...at least SHE SEEMS TO GET IT!!! WTF is this IDIOT thinking??? you can't put PR out there like that ....seriously, crawl back under your rock!!
  • Les
What is this guy thinking? Is he trying to tank his movie before it begins? Doesn't he know he's part of a franchise now? His first vampire movie was not so great. I think it would be better if just kept his mouth shut and went to work on his new film.
  • D
    i feel dumb for asking this..lol;
i THINK i get the "joke"
but will someone explain it a little more thouroughly[def. sp..]?
    I want to be suree
  • i am still gunna give him a chance for directing eclispe i am worried about the outcome if his personality will clash with the cast or he is just gunna not put that much effort into eclispe but i will still have faith in eclsipe and in all the twilight saga movies so im not gunna judge him yet but i will wait and judge after eclispe :D
  • 30yearoldtwifan
    Thats fair bella425! :-)
  • thank u...... i just feel i shouldnt be bashing him or at least not yet until after i give him a fair chance and see how he directs eclispe u know :D
  • noname
oh and by the way, i meant by hurt i meant me, on the inside, lol!! i wouldnever hurt anyone, just want to let u guys no that,ok? i am realy srry iwas rude earlier to this director!
  • noname
IF HE RUINS ELCLIPSE I WILL BE SO SO SO MAD!!!!!! ok, well, it will be horrible!!! i really don't want elclipse to be gory and gursome!I love elclipse and will be hurt if this "directer" decided to make it so different that Edward doesn't even propose!!! THAT IS THE MAIN PART OFBREAKING DAWN!!! ugh!!! Idk if it was a joke, he should see twilight!!! it is THE BEST MOVIE EVER and he is making a sequal to it? just plz plz plz don't let him ruin it!!!! thankz!!!
  • 30yearoldtwifan
David doesn't write the script, so if by some half chance summit would be dumb enough to not have the proposal in Eclipse , well it would be ROSENBURGS fault the writer not Slade's.

Real nice make a petition to have the guy removed because of a comment he said as a joke 7 months ago when he wasn't even being considered for Eclipse. Real Nice cullenalice!

wow I have a migrane reading from reading all the hateful comments.
  • twilightsugar19
the books are better ya but the movie was pretty good and iof course edward is hott
  • Kimoppi
Truthfully, I had ZERO interest in seeing Twilight. I can understand why an adult male felt disinclined to see it also. In my opinion, the movie was made specifically for the teenage girl. Even my friends who had seen the movie didn't recommend it.

I only read the books after they were given to me as a gift. I finally saw it in a tiny theatre after reading the book. I thought it was cute, but nothing exceptional. Only as I watched the movie on DVD did I see the more subtle details. That's the problem with movies in the theatre... you can't absorb EVERYTHING the first time.

I think he'll do a wonderful job. Don't get angry because months back he didn't want to see a movie... cuz I said the same thing, and now I'm all over this website. Time changes things.
  • Moriah
I didn't like Twilight either, but...

I still feel like punching this guy in the face for saying that.

    I say:

CHRIS WEITZ FOR NEW MOON, ECLIPSE, AND BREAKING DAWN!
  • cutesweetiezzz
AMEN! Chris Weitz all the way!
  • mschicklet
I agree about the Chris Weitz thing, I've been rooting for him from the beginning. Maybe he's still a possibility for BD?
  • i'm offended
i don't know everyone but i feel like is not a joke!!! he's going to do EClipse!!! but looks like he just saw the money!!!
  • cullenalice
sign my petition to remove him from eclipse at

    http://www.gopetition.com/online/27499.html
  • cullenalice
the petition has been removed. thanks newmoonmovie for clearing the david slade issue up
  • 30yearoldtwifan
    That's ridiculous!
  • allie
    Agreed.
  • Katie87
Seriously should he make eclipse... ? He hasnt ever seen twilight how the hell is goning to know what the F is going on? lol

    AMATEUR!
  • lila
he should not direct eclipse! im scared for it now...ill bet hell do horrible like all his other movvies. and let ALLL the twilight fans down...he'll regret it.
  • amanda
i was nervous about him the first time it was announced he was going to be filming it...its my favorite book too, and if he screws it up....he better watch out! THE PROPOSAL HAS TO BE IN THERE! and hopefully they dont change that around either. like instead of edward doing it when they are alone at his house, they have them out to dinner or something. that would suck! im nervous!!
  • Kimoppi
The initial proposal was in New Moon.

But the official, on one knee in his bedroom, proposal was in Eclipse.

Am I the only person who really wants to see both?
  • mschicklet
No, I'm right there with you. THEY BOTH need to be in there. But ESPECIALLY the one in Eclipse. It's the most important one because it happens on the one night they get to be together in the house alone. It's one of the sweetest scenes.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Meghan we are defianlty thinking the same thing, personally im more scared of Rosenburg then David. lol
  • lol we'll have to see if she steps it up for new moon.. if her version of the storyline is just as bad as it was in twilight, i'm not sure if i'll have any faith in her for eclipse.. ill keep praying tho! haha
  • n/a
i think that if tim burton directed all the films with the same cast they would all turn out completly amazing better than twilight turned out, even though twilight was amazing i think it would have turned out better. tim burton or chris weitz.cathrine did an awsome job but still....
  • i guess i just pretty much repeated what you said 30yearoldtwilightfan! haha i completely agree with you.. we need Melissa to do a good job *gulps*
  • Even with him as a director, we still have to depend on Melissa for a good script.. and with the way she's talked in the past about how she wants to cater to the younger audience and how she completely failed, in my opinion, to put more of the real book romance/relationship between Edward and Bella, I'm actually hoping David's vision can like balance hers out almost, so that the movie follows the book as closely as possible.

I won't write him off just yet, but I must say that when Chris wrote that letter, it almost completely reassured me that he was going to take care of us fans. I hope at some point we can get some type of reassurance, in some form, even if it's not from David himself, that he'll take good care of Eclipse too, because it is definitely my favorite.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I think were on the same page! lol
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Honestly you cant blame David if Eclipse isn't good to much, the person who WRITES the script should hold a lot of responsibility, the director has to follow the script.
  • kawaiioki
yeah right...30 days of night was supposed to be a "different kind of vampire film"? not only did it suck, but it was totally unoriginal; his vampire monster things were a jarbled recapitulation of the traditional vampire canon on fast-forward so they'd pop out and surprise everyone. i'm scared for eclipse because underneath the character profiles and plot points, the twilight saga isn't really about vampires at all--its a tender commentary on how we all communicate and relate to one another, and the strength and tenacity between those newly bonded relationships. please oh please, david slade, let the film follow the natural progression of the story in the novels...please please
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Did you know 30daysofnight was a graphic comic before the movie with a fan base? and David followed the comic.
  • ancha85
It is true that we have to give him, Summit, and Stephenie M. the benefit of the doubt about this choice. The news articles all said that both Summit and SM met him several times before making their choice. Since they have done such a great job with CW and New Moon so far, I know that they are going to be very careful with Eclipse.

Saying that, David Spade, you need to BRING IT and do our Saga justice. This is not just a gross out vampire flick, it is mostly a love story and a character story. Please remember that and do well. Since your reputation is on the line, and this is probably the hightest grossing film you will ever make, please do your best to continue on with the great story and characters that SM, CH, and CW are passing down to you.

Yes, you are a good choice for the Newborn fight scene, and I am confident that you will make that scene great, but as Eclipse is the favorite of the series for many people, (including me!), please remember our characters are the most important thing in these movies.

I know that Summit, and especially Stephenie, will keep a close eye on him, so Eclipse should be great. After all, he just needs to continue building on the great work already established before him, using the same screenwriter and same cast and crew (with a few additions.)

We are positive you will do great , DS.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Yeah I will say that because the movie needs to mature as the book did. To bash the guy on a joking comment from 6 months ago is wrong IMO..
  • Julia
Well said, except that unfortunately I'm having trouble being so confident in his overall skills for this film. Curious? Yes. Nervous? YES. But obviously we're all going to give him a chance.... We don't have a choice. Though I do think that if his opinions on Twilight in November haven't changed (aka he would rather shoot himself than watch a Twilight movie), he shouldn't be a part of this series and Summit should realize that. Enthusiasm or lack of enthusiasm for a project really does come across in the finished product.

Love the part of your post about this being his highest grossing film ever lol.
  • lauren
i'm not ready to throw him to the wolves just yet, but hello not funny. if this guy took the job, he took the fans and the phenomenon with it. don't be a douche about it and try and be cooler than the project. he seems super arrogant, but who knows? but i would be really sad if he doesn't take this seriously.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
He said this wayyyy before he was even considered for Eclipse. This is NOT a recent comment.
  • patty
okay that joke was bito ofenisve, but guys he may ben just joking. i mean if he iddiesdf, then waht the hell but at the smaeit guyas it could be a rumo.r mrember that rumor that stheapnie meyer's being sued! not rue, seh siad so on her site.
  • Dee
my twilight peeps...you can not hold this thing against him, you know how it is...everything that you may have ever said EVER is under the microscope once your in Twilight-verse. I mean we secretly love every smidge of fodder, but honestly I have to take all of this, including the good juicy bits of news, with a grain of salt until all is said and done. IMHO if you really dig Twilight and respect everyone involved in bringing something new to a story that is so freakin awesome, then you will be able to see that all of this is just nonsense to get us fired up in a controversy tornado.

    *steps off soap box*

btw, I'm finally gonna bow down to "twitter" (ew)casue Michel Sheen is just adorable with his posts! Anyone see that Underworld was on cable the other night??...OMG New Moon is gonna ROCK my SOX!!!!
  • jcrunswithvamps
I did actually watch it, knowing that he was in it, and i really enjoyed it....i rented the other two movies lol. He was quite sexy....team Aro anyone? haha
  • Dee
I know right? Lets start Team Aro!!!
  • michno03
After hearing the audio, totally different perspective. It was a lighthearted, joking conversation. I think it will be fine. I hope they do the graduation party...I really want to see Emmett smiling at Mike in the trance lighting.
  • kerbear585
if he was joking that is great. i think that it might have just gotten taken out of context cuz reading what he said and hearing it sends a completely different message.
  • Julia
LOL @ the Emmett/Mike trance lighting comment!!
  • tribecca
Wow, I'm worried. Really worried. With this guy at the helm of Eclipse, I sense trouble.

I've read that Stephanie Meyer thinks this David Slade character is really great. I would like to see her make a statement on why she feels good about him directing Eclipse. Maybe then she would make a lot of nervous fans (including myself) feel a little better about this.
  • kerbear585
i am getting a bad feeling from this guy now for saying this. let's just hope that he doesn't change direction. granted i am hoping that the actors stand their ground and let him know how it should be. like rob did with his character to catherine.
  • Julia
Yea, except I DON'T like Rob's vision for Edward being more "conflicted" and "emo" (as Stephenie Meyer put it). Edward is charming and romantic, and for at least the entire secpnd half of the book, he is always sure of his love for Bella. I just don't think Rob understood that part. He brooded a bit too much. I hope he lightens up a bit in Eclipse and BD. Someone should nudge him and remind him "You're head over heels in love with her, remember??"
  • kerbear585
yeah i know what you mean. i think that he just thought that the first one he should have been more conflicted cuz that is how it was in the book. i don't think he realized that you had to go from conflicted to love so quickly in the movie to get all the feelings out.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
By the way I do understand your fears ladies, but trust me David is going to do awesome. Hes exacly what the saga needs, IMO..
  • Julia
Do you think he'll do a good job with the romance aspect (which is a huge part of Eclipse), or just the vampire action parts?
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I really do think he will do great with the romance, he is a freak lol ! He is going to love to direct them with the kissing and the punch with jake and Bella and Bella wanting to have sex with edward. Have a little trust ladies, he will do great.

Oh and the tent scene :-O
  • Julia
Right just as long as it's "love you with all my heart" romance, not necessarily all "raunchy" romance. Regardless of Bella seducing Edward and the honeymoon scenes in BD, the series just isn't about shallow sexuality. It's about ROMANCE and tenderness. I hope Slade and whoever directs BD know that.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Well as long as there's passion in the scenes ill be happy, I'm sure David knows what WE the fans expect from him as does summit. To take a joking comment and to bash him when he wasnt even yet "considered" for Eclipse isnt fair.

For people to bash him "oh I want my money back if its not good" or "get a petition going to get rid of him" I think is disrespectful when he hasn't even started filming yet, I mean at least give the guy a chance before hes judged. JMO..
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Did you all listen to what he said or just read it? I'm serious, because he was obviously joking.

I really cant wait for him to prove the haters wrong! Bring it on DAVID! Bring Eclipse up a notch and make the movie mature as the book does!
  • Thank goodness someone else gets it lol. Completely agree!
  • Shar
wow - this guy scared me... why on earth does he want to direct this if he thinks twilight was so unappealing. I guess I just don't understand Hollywood - they have such a winner here with the Twilight Saga - what are they thinking?
  • Julia
Sorry "TeamWolfPack", didn't mean to actually "reply" to your comment. I got off on a tangent that I was trying to post separately.
  • Kate
Man I'm not sure about this. It's kind of a slap in the face to all of the fans you know? I'm not trying to start anything but Twilight means a lot to so many different kinds of people that he needs to take it seriously and watch what he says. If he thought the book/movie (which ever he was talking about) was something that would make him want to shoot himself instead of watch or read, then he has some serious challenges ahead of him. If he doesn't stay close to Eclipse and give the readers and watchers what they want, he's going to regret it. If he's the director that ruins the Twilight Saga movies, it may be hard for him to get other jobs. Either way, I'm almost afraid now of the different parts of Eclipse that he'll emphasize over others.
  • Do ANY of you have a sense of humor? At all? Maybe a humor bone? A fiber? An atom? Did you BOTHER to LISTEN to what he said? READ IT AGAIN. He had just directed a vampire movie. People suggested he see Twilight. He cracked a joke *LEGASP*. Then he says, he has a romantic (violent) side. MAYBE HE SHOULD HAVE SEEN TWILIGHT.

While I respect everyone's opinion I am SO SICK and TIRED of this. How dare a person crack a dry, smartass joke about Eclipse. If anyone speaks anything but love, devotion, and pure awe then they are horrible. Where is the backlash for Rob calling Stephenie "mad?" *see link in the comments for quote*

So David didn't want to see Twilight. I DID NOT WANT TO SEE TWILIGHT. Does that make me less of a fan? How do any of know how he truly feels about Eclipse? We haven't even heard of his plans for the movie. HE ISN'T EVEN WRITING THE SCRIPT!

We are having melodramatic spazz attacks over a JOKE. It will be okay.

Repeat after me....INHALE.....EXHALE....now repeat again.....now do it again....and again.

Good lawd. This is like beating my head against the wall.
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
I agree with you.. and just wondering.. does anyone have any proof that the guy even KNOWS anything about Twilight yet? His joke was about how he didn't want to see it. I don't see that as dissing Stephenie, the fans, the first movie, etc. He might have made a snap judgement without knowing squat. And there is NO ONE that can say they haven't done that either. "Judging a book by it's cover." I know I made a snap judgement immediately - then tried it and not only got pulled in, I got sucked and buried in it. haha. Maybe he'll read it now that he's directing Eclipse, maybe he'll check out the first movie now, but until then I think calm is in order. Maybe he just hasn't put anything out there for the fans yet.. he was only confirmed rather recently. Same with Steph.. I'm sure she's busy; maybe she just hadn't had the time to reassure everyone.

Lets just waaaait.. and stay calm. And if I'm wrong about him not knowing anything and saying this... then I'll eat my words.
  • rukiafae
theres no winning a fight with someone who can't be objective.

the first movie sucked. Doesn't make me less of a fan, just realistic. I watched it because its what we have. I've read the book more than I've seen the movies, because the book is so much better.

I have high hopes for the rest of the saga and am exited about them, and hoping for better movies (which I think will happen).
  • Julia
I get that it was a joke, but he was disrespectful toward a movie that Stephenie Meyer put her blessing on. The entire cast and crew of Twilight said they were proud of it, and Steph said she was happy with the way it turned out. So Slade is disrespecting that and it sounded like he was saying that we were all idiots for spending $37 million opening night to see it. PLUS Slade's comments seemed disrespectful to the entire Twilight series, which Twilight fans (the customers who buy the books and pay to see the movies) don't deserve. I get your side of it, but try to understand our side as well. This is the only thing he's ever said about the franchise that he is now putting his name next to, so it's understandable for us to be nervous.
  • Oh I understand. It still pisses me off the way some fans so willingly rip cast/directors into kibble. Without even giving them a chance. Then in the next moment they are kissing said ripped cast/directors arses. (ie Rob, Kristen, Chris Weitz) I am not referring to those willing to give him a chance, and are still nervous. I completely respect the opposing opinions, and I will not say a person is wrong for having them.

As to disrespecting Stephenie/cast/crew/Catherine...how? Just please explain how the comments were disrespectful. He didn't say it blew. He did not refer to anyone as idiotic for seeing it. He said that he did not want to see it because he directed a vampire movie. That he would rather someone shoot him than watch it. Obviously he was not cast as Eclipse director at the time of the joke.

Does this mean anyone who disliked the movie is disrespectful as well? I said myself, to friends, that I would rather someone shoot me that see Twilight. Does that make me disrespectful? It didn't see it for months until friends tricked me into going. I still didn't love it. If people want me to firmly understand the "disrespect" thing, then explain it to me.
  • Julia
More than anything, what comes to mind with all of this is that the movies should look fairly uniform (the way the Harry Potter movies look uniform. I hate to use a Harry Potter reference in comparison with Twilight but it's the first one that came to mind). Once all 4 Twilight movies are out, it will be a "series" -- a lot of things about the setting, the looks of the characters, the mannerisms of the characters, etc will be similar across all 4 movies. Therefore, you have to build upon the existing material. In order for Slade to make Eclipse "make sense" with the other movies in the series, he does have to "watch" Twilight and understand the Twilight movie, so that he can make sure he follows certain patterns... you know, so that all the movies look somewhat uniform. So if he hasn't seen it, he should (if he signed onto movie #3 without seeing #1, then Summit fails at the whole interviewing process). If, by now, he has seen it and didn't like it, then either he shouldn't be a part of a franchise he doesn't like, or he should know exactly what improvements he'll make to the existing series, without compromising some of the key elements that exist in the first movie. Basically he needs to explain himself, either through words or through his actions (by making Eclipse a great, LOYAL, third installment of a four part series). Since so far his "joke" is all we have to judge his "Twilight series" enthusiasm, it makes sense for some people to be skeptical. Does that make sense?
  • (Was this reply you were referring to below?)

You did make sense, but I have to respectfully disagree. If he needs to make the movie look uniformed, then I would think his main concern would be more on New Moon. I understand what you are saying about Twilight. I just think since Eclipse does follow New Moon then it (Eclipse) needs to pick up where NM will leave off. That being said I also believe he could accomplish this by reading the book as well. Since he is the director I expect him to read the book. Which I have confidence that he will do. All in all, I do understand the worry. I just think too much is being read into his comment.

In the end all we can do is agree to disagree I guess lol. No biggie :-D
  • Julia
I totally agree w/ you that he needs to read the book. ALL of the books, IMO to get the foundation of the story and the characters, but especially Eclipse. More than anything, I stress that he needs to understand, respect and stay loyal to the ROMANCE between Bella and Edward that is a huge part of Eclipse. We all get that he can do vampire fights well.... but the best thing about Eclipse is the romantic moments between Bella and Edward and I don't want to see that understated or butchered.
  • I certainly agree with you. He does need to stay true to the romance. That is the whole point of the saga. Even if Bella or Edward are not my favorite characters, it is their story.

I can't believe me...a wolf girl....just admitted that. I am worried about my wolves though. Especially the casting of Leah, Seth, and Sue Clearwater.
  • Julia
I can only imagine what you thought of the Vanessa Hudgens as Leah rumors a while back..... I care about the wolf pack as well. And Edward/Bella. ALL of the core emotions from the story need to translate better in the New Moon and Eclipse movies than they did in Twilight.

Oh yea, and I LOVE Seth. I'm excited for that casting news.
  • I have been a Steven Strait fan for quite a while now. When I heard of the possible re-cast of Jacob I was upset. I really enjoyed Taylor's portrayal, and thought he fit the role. When names were being thrown out Steven, and Eddie Spears (saw him as Sam too), were my choices. I was being realistic even though I signed tons of Taylor petitions.

I absolutely adore Taylor though, and for me he is Jacob now.
  • suitejuju
I couldn't agree more. Taylor really does embody Jacob. And then when I saw the commitment he brought to the role - I loved him more.

Eddie Spears *swoon* I can't even think of the Spears brothers with out swooning.

I just watched Michael in Imprint last night. *swoon*

Eddie would have made an amazing Sam.
    Have you seen Black Cloud?
  • My very yummy Sushi lunch nearly punched a ticket back out of my stomach. I told a girl friend if Vanessa were cast as Leah I would not see it. Even if she is part Native! I am extremely picky over the casting of the pack and their supporting characters. I completely agree about the emotions. Althought if emotion is missed, I will not totally blame a director. It falls on the actors as well.

Seth was so adorable. My favorite out of the whole saga was Leah though. I have my little wish list (Crystle Lightning (Leah) & Tyler Posey or Chevez Ezaneh (Seth)) for them, so we will see if I get them.
  • Julia
Also curious what you thought of the Jacob debacle. I saw "Sky High" a few weeks back out of morbid curiosity for Steven Strait's acting abilities... wow he really does look like a "grown up" Taylor. Still, I love Taylor and I'm excited to see him develop Jacob as a character.
  • Marianne
Oh boy, I wonder why Stephanie gave her okay to the guy? The release Summit put out said Steph met with him and was pleased with him. Well, this is NOT the book to screw up the movie on(none of them are); Eclipse has such iconic romance scenes in it along with the fighting aspect of the story. If you don't really like the story how can you make a movie that has any meaning? At least Drew Barrymore loved the series, characters, and actors. We'll just have to hope for the best, does Summit really want a bunch of rabid Twilight fans on their hands?
  • emmell
I am really worried becouse it seems like hes going to focus on the scary stuff and eclipse is the most violent book i am scared that he is going to turn it into some horror movie please please please summit dont let him direct eclipse is there not some petition or something?
  • atwilightmom Team By The Book
Not ok. I am disgusted with Summit for picking such a callus person to film a movie that is all about relationships. Eclipse is all about the characters and the love triangle. The fight scene is at the end. We FANS are the CUSTOMERS. WE ARE FANS OF THE BOOKS... I am an artist, but I feel nauseated when artists feel that it is their responsibility to put their own spin on a piece of literature. PLEASE! These books are on par with Montgomery, Austen, Bronte, etc. It is your responsibility to VISUALLY SHOW WHAT IS IN THE BOOK, NOT WHAT YOU THINK THE BOOK SHOULD HAVE BEEN!

SUMMIT, EXECS, IF YOU ARE LISTENING, if you screw this up and do not stick to the book, I WILL ASK FOR MY MONEY BACK and WILL REFUSE TO WATCH OR BUY THE MOVIES. DO NOT SCREW THIS UP! Keep the integrity of the book! If you can't do romance and character development, get out of the process!
  • Julia
This is what I've been saying all along. It isn't the "David Slade Twilight interpretation" and it wasn't the "Catherine Hardwicke Twilight interpretation." It's the TWILIGHT SERIES. You take plot point #1, plot point #2, sappy conversation #3 from the book and PUT THEM INTO THE MOVIE. It's not "Hmmmmm what if this character acts like this instead of how they act in the book." It's supposed to be WHAT THE BOOK IS, but brought to life visually. And yes, if Slade can't handle what the Twilight series is, he shouldn't be a part of it. If he doesn't want to be there -- if he really thinks the series is so pathetic that he'd rather shoot himself (yes I get that he was joking but it was tasteless and insulting to Stephenie and her fans) -- then we don't want him to be a part of it. I just wish he'd SAY SOMETHING SERIOUS. And I also wish Steph would address all of this. This is her masterpiece, afterall.
  • RobRocks
OMG I really didnt want to see his ugly face this morning....Im gonna have all of my twigirls with me for this movie and if he screws it up i know at least 4 that will murder him with me. so...DONT F**K UP MY MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
    LOL, we'll hunt him down!!
  • twifan89
ahaha agreed!!! and the creepy award goes to...David Slade. there is just something about his face and facial expressions that always creep me out... and he better not mess this movie up because it is tied for first in being my favorite book!
  • Rob_is_my_Kryptonite
I am really worried about Eclipse now. I honestly think they could pick a better director...at least one who can appreciate the books and movie. If he still ends up directing Eclipse...then I hope Stephanie will be involved even more so than she has already been with the other 2 movies.
  • jules60
Guess what? They start shooting Eclipse in August, so if they are going to change they better hurry up. Maybe he is sorry for what he said, and will do a good job. We can only hope, or maybe Chris's brother will do it.
  • spunk
Why even agree to direct the film in the first place? I mean really...If you don't like the books and it's not in a genre you really want to do then pass. Script or not he will be the director and he can take "creative license" and put in a scene, delete a scene or change the wording. So if he is already coming into the project with a distaste for all that is Twilight then I have to question whether he will put that aside and do Eclipse justice or if he is just going to do it his way and really screw it up. I am wondering if he is even capable of doing a PG-13 movie!?
  • 30yearoldtwifan
VOTE MTV movie awards. Twilight got nominated in 7 categories!

    http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2009/catego...
  • bizzo
Come on people, Twilight the movie wasn't as good as we all wished it would be. We saw it and loved it because we love the book and series so much. Most people can agree that the movie had some serious problems. He is definitely entitled to his opinion, especially since he's a director and has experience in the field. It's like asking politicians their opinion on policy. I'm sure he'll do a good job with Eclipse. He doesn't really have a choice.
  • Julia
Sure it had flaws but it is a starting point so that you know what to improve on. I EXPECT each sequel to be better than the last. They (Summit, the directors, the screenwriter, the cast) have more to lose now, and they also have bigger budgets to work with. Plus, if you want a customer to pay money for something, you generally want to provide the customer with what they want. We the fans are the customers and the entire film industry knows what we want. They also know what Steph Meyer wants done with her work. Anyone know Steph's take on all of this? She posted a letter and attached Chris's letter within a week of him being signed on for New Moon. She helped calm us all down. I want to know her take on Slade.......
  • caisee
lol I like the tent scene too, 4thewolf.One good thing though it will still have the same screenwriter, so we might be ok. :o) Honestly at the beginning I wanted NO PART of Twilight.. I didn't see the movie until late March when it came to DVD. So um, I guess I can see where he was coming from. I love it now... which is why I'm here daily plugged into newmoonmovie.org. I hope though he does take this seriously because a lot of people are waiting. Eclipse is my favorite book and also holds some of the most romantic parts of the series... so yeah, this should be interesting.
  • 4thewolf
All I can say is TENT SCENE people. TENT SCENE. PLEASE don't mess that one up, Mr. Slade.
  • Bigelow for Breaking Dawn
Again with slamming the PG-13 rating now to sound like a know it all but are you a movie goer? because when one talks negative about something there is something called home work and research to back up those claims, but seens you got neither. Shrugs.

As for the Cullens backstory, In New Moon they are going to deal with Carlisle backstory
and Ashley said we will get to know more about Alice.
  • EddysGal
Is there another set of Twilight books out there? Because the ones that I read were not this "R" rated stuff that people keep going on about. I mean if all anyone got out of them was gang rape, murder, sex, fights, sex, and more violence and sex, then I think you've missed the whole story. Yes, I do realize that the abovementioned were in the books....but honestly they were in the books with about as much detail as I just wrote about. It's good to use our imaginations, but this is overkill. i just don't get it. All those things are background noise to the real story, which is the love between Bella and Edward. It's about self-sacrifice. It's about devotion. It's about friendship. It's about protecting everything you love and cherish. Let those other things just be the background noise that they are. Those sides stories are props, if you will, on a stage. The focus should be the love-story, not the props. Yes good props do help to portray the picture, as does good special effects - like Edward's sparkle - I wanna see better sparkle man! Honestly there is nothing wrong with a PG-13 rating. We don't have to go "R". Going "R" is going to limit the scope of these movies. The books are not "R". They are a solid PG-13. I think we can be proud of that. I want Stephenie's story on film, not Hollywoods version of what they think her story should be.
  • Annie
I am REALLY, REALLY thankful for your comment.. you're absolutely right, the stuff we read in Twilight is NOT rated R. It's Stephenie Meyer's writing, she is openly religious and believes in waiting to have sex after getting married and simple, cute things like that. She wouldn't write about pointless gang rape and violence and murder. For the record, she doesn't even DESCRIBE the gang rape, we don't even KNOW if she was raped - we can just assume. She paints a good picture, she makes us understand the hurt and the reasoning being Rosalie's actions - she doesn't make us want to see some huge gang rape. Twilight, I would say, is mostly grouped in the same age group as those that see Harry Potter.. both have mature themes, but you know, are rated PG or PG-13.. PG-13 allows enough of violence, a bit of swearing, some romance-y things.. but it's not TOO much. I want Stephenie Meyer's version too! I want to see what I read! Not what Hollywood wants to make to please the public and immature teenagers who go seeking films that will make them cringe.
  • EddysGal
You are VERY, VERY welcome. I knew I couldn't be the ONLY one out there who felt this way. Of course, we may be the only TWO, but that's okay, right? I can understand everyone wanting the most and the best from these films, I do too. I do not fault MR at all for being sensitive to the PG-13 crowd, I do fault her for the screenplay and script, that was a bit much. Please no more "Spider Monkey" or "Monkey Man" stuff, okay? I am hopeful that with a bigger budget, that NM will be an improvement. I too am a little concerned about the new director. He seems to be rated more as a horror film kind of guy, we need a romance kind of guy, so I hope he can adapt and be both, but leaning in the romance direction, ya know?
  • Julia
I still don't really think the gang rape scene in this movie needs to be a very "big deal." Rape scenes in movies are rarely handled with very much sensitivity, AND this movie isn't about Rosalie - it's about Edward and Bella above all else. PLUS it's a fantasy movie! I just don't want them to get carried away for the sake of having violent material. If it flows w/ the movie and is treated with the utmost respect, then fine. But it better not be gratuitous.
  • kateirishcoven
Eclipse, if kept true to the original story, could by no means ever be a PG-13 movie. Keep it real Summit!!
  • Julia
The bottom line is he's alienating the fan base of the Twilight franchise. So is Summit by not offering up their intentions or vision for Eclipse. WE (the fans) are CUSTOMERS who are paying for a product (the movies). We are the only reason Twilight broke box office records opening weekend. You'd think that if Summit and David Slade wanted to make a high-grossing movie, they'd make sure to please the fans enough so that we'll actually want to spend our money on it and tell our friends to spend their money on it. And they know what the fans want. We want Stephenie Meyer's story to be portrayed in an accurate and RESPECTFUL manner. Slade isn't being respectful of Stephenie Meyer by saying what he said, and by extension, neither is Summit. Will the end product be good? Hopefully. But those of you who are criticizing us for being upset with Slade should understand our concerns, especially when we're only given little tidbits of information to go off of. And NO I don't think they're going to show the gang raping. Come on,did they show Alice's backstory in Twilight? Or Carlisle's? Or Esme? No. I think they're staying away from Cullen backstories (and probably some of the wolfpack backstories). This is going to be more about Edward and Bella and all that they encounter together (Victoria + newborns, etc.)
  • Max
if you listen to the audio of the interview it's actually quite funny.
He didn't say it the way you read it.
I said he wished he's gone to see it.

Plus after this buzz I'm sure he won't ever say anything bad about the saga again, joking or not. maybe it's a good learning experience for him.
  • StarlitHowl--Team Sexy Mango
I can't listen, stuck at work :( but I plan to when I get home! Thanks for bringing this up, as there may be others unable to listen & thus, hear 'how' he's stated it. Good call Max :) Words can very easily get taken in the wrong context when only text

30 days of night was so awful, i'm actually worried what this guy will do to Eclipse. His track record isn't great and if he thinks he is going to win over fans with half-hearted arrogant comedy he has another thing coming. I reckon summit should consider Christopher Nolan or Mike Newell, and PG13 rating???? Give us a break, even Harry Potter got an M rating (i think thats R in the US, its M in Australia for 15 years and over). Eclipse should be very graphic and real, gang rape, murder, vampire battles and Jasper's war zone...please dont give us the same toned down version as the first movie (although it was ok). We've read the books, we know whats coming. enough said. Also can i say i can not wait to see Michael Sheen as Aro although i'd imagined Aro more like Gary Oldman (aka Dracula with winona rydor back in 93 i think it was)
  • JamieCullen85
I agree with 30yearoldtwilightfan, the movie stayed very close to the comic, and I loved the movie... the vamps were crazy, and the script was great.... I think David will do a great job. I'm excited to see the newborns now!
  • Annie
It's good to hear that he stuck by the original comic.. but I'm just worried. I don't like the scary movies, I don't like really terribly sadistic and scary creatures, I don't want to get nightmares from reading fluff books about a vampire/teenager romance. I think "Twilight" is more about the romance, less about the action and blood and ripping and savage behavior. The point to Edward's scariness is that he wants her so bad, every element of her, even if that means wanting to take her life.. but he loves her. "30 Days of Night" was creepy beyond belief.. those vampires were totally one-dimensional and I don't care if stuff sparkling vampires is silly.. it's what Twilight is, it's sparkling vampires.. not crazed flesh-ripping creatures that give me nightmares. Edward wanting Bella is SEXY, those other vampires wanting to just massacre the town, notttt so much.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I love 30daysofnight, David stayed as close to the graphic comic as he could and made a very intriguing world.
  • Bigelow for Breaking Dawn
Have you ever seen a PG-13 movie? it's like some folks in here have never in there life have seen one? there are alot of violent, sexually charged PG-13 movies out there honey. I will gladly give you a list.

    The Grudge
    The Unborn
    The Univinted
    A Haunted in Conneticut
    The Sixth Sense.

Before anyone slams the PG-13 rating do a little research first.
  • Bigelow for Breaking Dawn
There are alot of hard core stuff going on in this book I totally forgot about the third wife, or when Bella intents to do the same little stunt, I know for sure that the Victoria vs Edward scenerio is going to rule, better than the ballet studio. Can't wait.
  • Team Jacward
Yeah and hopefully with a bigger budget they'll be able to do some more believable stunts. I swear in Twilight it's like you could just see the wire they were attached to. Makes my heart hurt to think about the horrible injustice done in the first movie.
  • *winks* You know, the best way to atone for Twilight is make Midnight Sun. *gets dreamy eyed*

If money rules all of Hollywood then they're going to want to milk it for every penny, which means that once BD is made, maybe, just maybe, Stephenie will finish Midnight Sun so that it can be the 5th installment.
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
EEEP, don't get my hopes up!!! I think we should get Edward's perspective for all 4 books! Every time I read Eclipse I get so frustrated with Bella's, "I think I saw Edward do this but my eyes are wrong sometimes." I just want to KNOW what he was doing/saying/thinking. Come on SM, hear me out!!!
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
That'd be cool. I have to admit I liked being in Jake's head, too. Would love to have it in his AND Edward's POV. Steph will be busy. lol
  • Kim1524 (Fanfic Junkie)
LMAO KIM, i hear you, lets just hope meyer can!!!!
  • 4thewolf
Ooh, you noticed the harness thing too. It was like his legs were sort of swinging backwards when he jumped, which I don't think actually happens when a person jumps. I did love Catharine's intense focus shots of the actor's eyes, though. They were just beautiful when she would focus in at certain angles.
  • destined to be a cullen
i'd give the guy a chance.. he's been in the industry so, more or less, he knows what's he's doing.. im just hoping he see Eclipse the same way we saw it when we read the book., with that, he'll be able to meet our expectations for this much awaited film..
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Was he even signed to do Eclipse when he said this?

Its the British humor girls, similar to Robs. Don't take things so literally.

I really wish this article wasn't posted though, Its going to cause people to bash him. I better not read the comments or I'm going to get pissy lol
  • twilightus
Yeah, that was my thought too, may have been better if that article wasn't posted. I gave my 2 cents worth, and will stand by that. I don't care what he had to say months before he signed on to direct a sequel, as long as he stays true to the book. Like in the interview with Catherine Hardewick, when I think it was Paramount (I may be wrong on the studio) had the script for Twilight it was horrible. So they had to find someone that would stay true to the book. That's all we are asking for! As long as he does that he'll be my hero!! Go knock yourself out David!!!!!
  • I really hope he doesn't serve us up a plate off gore with a side off romance....But I 'll give him the benefit off the doubt. My lips are sealed until I see or hear different.
  • pinkpokadott
i actually was worried about that when they chose him...I really love all the Books but Eclipse just had a lot of resolution to the so called "love triangle" and I think it is really great. I hope he doesn't forget to focus on that....crossing my fingers.
  • ♥lovesthacoldnhotguys♥
right right... i hope he pays more attention to the proposal/engagement with edward and bella and pretty much the whole love triangle cuz it's mainly focused on bella, edward, and jake in eclipse...and i really love Eclipse... it is probably my favorite book from the twilight saga but i love them all regardless and let's hope he does a really great job with the movie... (saying to self, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!) lol

and i agree deedee81, let's give him the benefit of the doubt... :)
  • venomandspice
Eclipse is my favorite book, every page you turn there is just something good! and i love the love triangle aspect of it. your heart bleeds for Jacob and smolders for edward. and when jacob realizes that bella didnt choose him, OHHHH myheart just broke! the movie better be good!!!!!
  • cullen2
Yeah, I agree we probably should give him the benefit of the doubt. The first thing that occured to me was that he apparently said this back in NOVEMBER. Maybe he has had a change of heart, has seen the movie and read the books by now. Basically he spoke of something he really knew nothing or little about back then. Stephenie seemed happy with him as the chosen director. So hopefully it will be alright. Some letters of concern to Stephenie wouldn't hurt if it makes people feel better. Maybe she could put our worried minds at ease. :)
  • 30yearoldtwifan
    I love David!

Hes a freakin nut and will bring what Eclipse needs, I cant wait!
  • Kassielovesthecullens
    ditto
  • Team Jacward
Me neither!! I can't wait to see the scene where Bella punches Jacob in the mouth for kissing her and breaks her hand. That's one of my favorite parts in that book.
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
    I love that part!!!
  • Team-Taylro
    ignorant jerk
  • Jamie30
I agree, I would call him an a@@, but that is relaly too good for him. So I am gonna say he is the dingleberry on the a@@!! I cant stand him OR his movies.
  • LilyBelle
Oh great....he doesn't even know what's going on does he. I bet he's never even read the books....grr
  • MelMel
BUT ROB DIDNT INSULT THE SERIES!!
    He liked it!!..
Rob isnt just doing it to cash in
David Is!! he doesnt care if its a good or bad film.
Either way its going to make money
  • Rob did call Stephenie "mad".
    http://theplaylist.blogspot.com/2008/11/twiligh...

The same "greed" argument could be used on Chris as well. Twilight was an amazing success, so who's to say Chris didn't sign on for the money as well. Not to mention Catherine's director book for the movie. Couldn't that be called greed as well?
  • 30yearoldtwifan
How do you know that? Im sure summit isnt dumb they know what there doing.
  • Team Jacward
I think he cares if the movie is good or not. I just think you should wait til you see the final product before you crucify the guy. Catherine Hardwicke LOVED Twilight and you see what she did to the movie.
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
Yeah she loved the little pieces so much that the whole movie was...well we know what it was...rushed, had scenes left out, and mistakes everywhere!
  • Well said! (That's two days in a row that you've nailed it!)

After having watched Twilight ummm, like 20-something times now, I can say that it definitely has so much of Catherine's 'love' that it would have been so much better if someone had taken a more objective approach. I read Melissa's script also and the script is actually really good and has certain elements in it that were not in the final film.

I'm sure this is normal, but the parts that were left out would have augmented the story significantly.
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
    YES!!!!! My hammer works!
  • Team Jacward
Exactly. So it's obvious that the way someone feels about the movie is not going to make it any better or worse. Because I'm sure if Catherine could have channeled all her feelings into Twilight we would have got the movie that we deserved, but instead we got...well, you've seen it.
  • Team Jacward
Awww come on guys, you gotta give him a chance. He might (and if he doesn't, he'll wish he had) do an AWESOME job with Eclipse. Remember how many people didn't want Rob to be Edward at first and look how that's completely turned around.
  • lauraseclipse
i always wanted rob to be edward... thought he was a perfect fit for the role...
  • Jamie30
If it is going to be ANYTHING like 30 Days of Night, we are SOO screwed!! lol - here is hoping that he doesnt think just because people went to SEE that movie, they LIKED it. That movie was, wow, just horrible. I really got scared when I seen he was directing Eclipse.
  • lauraseclipse
could someone just shoot him before he gets his hands on Eclipse??? Please?? I'm begging here.... PPPPPLLLLLEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSEEEEE!!!!!!
my favourite book of the 4 and i just know he's going to ruin it!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    why do you think that??
  • lauraseclipse
my opinion is based on his previous films... and also his attitude when speaking about the saga... he seems pretty arrogant.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
I see. thought that you read just this one interview and got prejudiced. I guess it's a matter of taste - I did like his previous films, but, like I said, de gustibus non est disputandum ;)
Maybe he is a bit arrogant (or maybe it was just a joke), but as long as he doesn't screw up the movie, I don't really care ;)
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
My concern in that he seems to be a rogue. This movie needs someone willing to stick with THE story - I'm afraid he will turn this fabulous book into his "artistic" story. Original work of his has received praise, but I think it takes someone with experience and a particular talent to bring a book effectively to a motion picture.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
that's true... I hope it doesn't happen. Eclipse (the book) has a great movie potential and David, as a good director, should see it and extract it. Besides, there's a storyline to follow, so he couldn't add too much of his own artistic vision even if he wanted to :)
  • v.cullen
i totally agree with lauraseclipse - this guy sounds like such a loser who thinks he is better than the flim

i sooo dont want him to do eclipse if his attitude is like that- he will so ruin the romance

ARG I AM SO ANNOYED NOW- why doesnt someone respect his wish to just shoot him??
  • Kassielovesthecullens
Shoot a guy just so you can have your movie made by someone else....just because the guy is not kissing our butts....wow....thats a little judgemental.
  • lauraseclipse
tee hee hee... well if i could do it legally I would :-) Hhhhmmmmm my PMDD defense could work on this case????
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
maybe, but maybe not :) I'm not a big fan of the "romance" in Twilight (the movie) - Catherine & Melissa cut out most of it, even though (as someone mentioned above) Catherine said that she loved the book.
I'm going to wait with judging till the movie comes out. I think he did a nice job with "30 Days of Night" and "Hard Candy"... and when it comes to movies, he should be judged as a director, not as a person :)
  • Me too. Of the novels, Eclipse and BD were my favorite because the characters were well established and they weren't so mushy. (Not that I minded too terribly!)

I'll hold judgement until I start seeing some cast and crew responses to him, just like we've seen for Chris. If we don't hear anything, then I'll start to worry because they are more likely to say nothing about him than to bash him publicly. I am a little concerned though that Stephenie didn't say anything about his involvement,
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
Yeah, I wondered about Stephenie's lack of response too. But I'm guessing that she has a say in the choice of directors, so she must've apporoved of David before he signed his contract.
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
It's hard to know what SM is contractually able to do. These things are so complicated. She seemed very hands on with Twilight and it was still disappointing. I agree with the above comment about the lack of character development. Why Hollywood doesn't seem to understand the how emotionally attached people are to this series is beyond me. Do they not see the rabid fan? All any of us want is a true adaptation of the book. Simple as that!
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
I wonder if some of the changes and/or elimination had to do with the budget. I don't know how that would make a difference with the field trip vs. blood typing, but who knows. And maybe they didn't go over the 2-hr. mark due to that as well. I really have no clue, but it could be something that they couldn't help.
  • lauraseclipse
umm isn't the whole point of the novels the romance??? It is less about the vampires and wolves aspect as it is about relationships, psychology of them and romantic complications. The action and what not has always appeared to me as a secondary vehicle within the overall stories, not the main component.

I will give the guy a chance but if he screws it up ... well he is certainly going to know about it... just like catherine knows...
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
hmm maybe I put it in the wrong way (sorry, English is not my mother tongue :)) - I meant that I DID expect Twilight the movie to contain as much romance as the book, and it didn't. This was why I was disappointed with Catherine & Melissa's work :) If I hadn't read the book first, I wouldn't have noticed the depth of Bella & Edward's feelings at all.

hehe if he screws it up you'll not be the only one willing to annihilate him ;)
  • Kassielovesthecullens
amen....can we all take a step back and realize that this is just a job and he'll probably do just as well doing his JOB even if he's not a huge twilight obsessed fan. It doesn't mean he won't do good just cause he didn't submit a letter to please fans.
  • MelMel
totally!!! THAT JERK JUST WANTS CASH!!! plain and simple
He doesnt care about the saga or the fan, just a big fat paycheck
coz he cant get any other jobs!!
    What is Summit thinking???:|
  • NuttyNetty
::sigh:: this guy is only coming into the twilight bandwagon, not because of fans, not because he likes the story, not because he's creatively seeking oportunities in the industry but because he knows this film is sure to make him a ton of money. I'm sorry but i am not going to support his greed despite how well he does with eclipse... well that's how i feel at the moment anyway... and am willing to sign any petition for a new director should one present itself.
  • jcrunswithvamps
I don't think it's DIRECTLY the money, I think he knows it will offer him exposure, which in turn will make him money. In which case, he'll do a good job. He knows if he butchers it he'll ruin his rep (not that he has a significant one at present).
  • kygal
This director and scriptwriter really need to be careful. ITS A LOVE STORY! Eclipse is the greatest love story. It's funny and sweet and Edward is overwhelmingly protective in this book. This director has got to pull off a complex combination of 30 days of night, meets the notebook, meets Titanic. And twilight fans will know when it's right. Good luck Mr.Director 'cause you'll either be a hero with millions of loyal fans or......well, or is bad.
  • LOL!!! Personally I found the joke hilarious. In fact, when asked to see Twilight opening night I said something along those same lines.

Friend - "Mandy let's see Twilight on Friday"
    Me - "Uh No"
Friend - "What if I had a gun to your head?"
Me - " Just shoot me. I want to see Catherine hack up this movie like I want a bullet to the brain"

Yeah I'm sure all of you wanted that commentary but yeah. I think that's just a dry joke from David. Personally I am looking forward to what he will bring to Eclipse. Eclipse isn't just the romance but it's heavy on the angst (the triangle, Bella's constant b***hing) and some violence (hello Edward & Seth rip Riley into kibble).

I mean come on...Victoria builds her army (which I'm sure they will include in the movie), practice fighting with the wolves (eeee) and vampires, and the battle at the end (can't wait!). I think David will do justice to the book. And let me just say... it is flipping annoying, when people piss themselves when someone involved doesn't preach love and devotion to the saga.

One word of caution......screw up my Leah and Seth and I will show the casting people what fursploding looks like. Crystle Lightning FTW!!!

    Just my opinion.
  • KINALuvzWolves
You know what, that's cool if Twilight wasn't his cup of tea. Everyone is entitled to their own taste and opinion. What troubles me though is that now Summit has placed our precious Eclipse in his hands. I just don't see how a director can do a story justice if they don't really give a rip about the story in the first place. I mean what's to stop him from changing details and the overall tone? I don't even see why a director would want to take part in something they never believed in.

But then again, everyone has a price...
  • I can't disagree lol. I guess I am with holding my distain until I hear what will be done with Eclipse. I just took what he said as a joke and nothing more. Especially when said, he had just directed a vampire movie. I just do not know enough information to formulate a negative opinion about him. I am more concerned, at the moment, with Melissa's script for now.
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
I'm glad someone else feels the same. Not to say I didn't like Twilight.. cause I really did! And I am concerned about him changing Eclipse too much. He needs to have a good balance between the violence and romance. And he better do the Jake/Bella kiss right! Both of them. But anyway, needless to say, I had a good laugh at what he said. Sounds like rather dry humor, and I appreciate that. Anyway, also because I felt the same when I was seeing the previews.. thought "Oh man, another dippy teen movie. No way." I hadn't read the books, though, either. Obviously that all changed when I read them and watched the movie - but his reaction amused me.

I'm thinking positively.. if he's smart, he'll be in talks with SM, and he'll read the book(s), and watch the first two movies. Here's hoping the man's smart! And I'm sure Stephenie will be involved anyway whether he initiates talks with her or not.. no one can go against her!
  • StarlitHowl--Team Sexy Mango
....omfg if he botches my tent scene! *Growls menacingly* heads...will...roll! >.< lol
  • jcrunswithvamps
Haha I agree. The tent scene, the proposal scene, and getting the right actors for seth and leah are really my only concerns for the film. Other than that, I don't particularly care if he changes it up a little bit, it's a movie, of course there will be changes.
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
I'm with all of this, too. Though I want the kiss scene with Bella and Jake done right. It was written well, and it's a turning point for Bella in a way.
  • jcrunswithvamps
Oh yeah most definately, I agree.
  • StarlitHowl--Team Sexy Mango
Haha seriously...Can't botch on Leah & Seth either uggh. I'm 100% w/Team Wolf Pack as far as casting for Seth & Leah (I'm open to other options but they'd better be DAMN good!). If he pays close attention I think he's safe LOL
  • jcrunswithvamps
I know right? I looked up those people TeamWolfPack mentioned and thought they were perfect. Hahaha yeah, he's safe for now.
  • I certainly understand the worry of changing Eclipse too much. In my opinion certain aspects of Twilight were changed too much. Therefore, in my opinion, it failed. I think he will do the book justice. He can do the violence/romance pretty well. The ending of 30 days of night actually made me tear up. There was a romance blossoming throughout the movie. I am putting my Twi-faith in him for now. Don't get wrong....if he screws this up I will be right there with everyone asking for his head on a silver platter lol.
  • tweeter76 IAMSWITZERLAND-1/09
I agree . . . I laughed at my friends who went to see Twilight opening night. It came out in November and I didn't see it in theaters until February. There are a lot of "movie biz" type people who I'm sure didn't see this movie . . . I'm going to trust him, for now. But if he screws this up . . . HALE TO PAY, HALE TO PAY!
  • KINALuvzWolves
I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't see that shiz until FEBRUARY *hangs head in shame* I was drowning in schoolwork and a perma-hangover in Europe while the rest of the world was caught up in Twipandimonium and then I came back to the US and was like "What is this Twilight crap?" I've been hooked ever since though!
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
I was very nearly February! Saw it like the 2nd to last weekend in Jan. or something - nearly missed it, too, since it was in one more weekend and then was gone for good.
  • LOL! HALE TO PAY!! I will bring the pitchforks and torches if he screws it up.

I laughed at my friends as well. I was already a fan of the saga waaaaay before the movie. I resisted the movie actually. I was excite at first, but read what Catherine was doing, and hated it. I would rather re-read Twilight than see it. So my friends ultimately had to drag me in January to see it. I wasn't blow away, but it was decent enough.

I just get fed up at the responses, if someone involved with the movies, do not worship the saga as some. Rather annoying, but just me lol.
  • StarlitHowl--Team Sexy Mango
I'll be in line w/you, wearing a "Team Man-V; do it right or there'll be HALE TO PAY!" t-shirt & moltov cocktails a plenty! Hahaha! :) I saw Twilight opening night...Not because I was excited it'd be good (I actually cringed at most of the trailers) but because I was curious mostly. It wasn't terrible, but definitely could've been better.

I don't need Slade to be as obsessed as we are, I just need him to respect it enough to want to see it work. Even if he's just in it for the paycheck, just be dedicated enough to do it as "right" as possible! lol
  • StarlitHowl--Team Sexy Mango
LMAO! I love you gals! <3

I have to say that I'm a bit put off by his comments as a first impression, but having a very smartass & dry sense of humor myself, I am willing to let it slide, for now (but he'd BETTER read the books!). Regardless, he needs to start being a tad more careful about what he says knowing how volatile the fandom is. Of course, if people honestly don't like what he does w/Eclipse, they need to own up to that by NOT seeing it...not just bitching, but by standing their ground, which is the only thing Summit & co' will notice...the pinch in the Box Office earnings.

At any rate, my packmate & Tweter are right; Eclipse will see the most action out of all of the films. If there's ever a time to need a Director like this, its now. Larry Caroll stated that he thinks Slade's best work lies ahead...For Slade's sake (as well as all of ours) it BETTER be Eclipse. 'Nuff said lol.

...If he screws up 'The Pack' *growls*....as Tweter said, HALE TO PAY! lol!
  • Agreed! I do feel bad that anyone needs to watch their mouths when it comes to the saga. It just irritates me. Sometimes the level of negativity is just icky. I agree, if people feel strongly about it, stand up, and don't see it.
  • StarlitHowl--Team Sexy Mango
I definitely agree, everyone is entitled to their opinions & the fandom has a nasty streak of negativity in them, especially some of the younger members that like to just tantrum it up ugh (not all mind you, but enough to get us a bad rep'!). However (& as much as I personally can't STAND it ugh) I do believe w/professionalism comes a bit of responsibility in regard to speaking publically. I honestly don't like censorship nor being forced into making statements that go against your beliefs, but I do think that it comes w/the territory of a 'job' to be mindful of how you state things. I'd like to cuss my boss out most of the time, but I find other ways to make my feelings known, that won't lose me the position LOL! Definitely something to be said for knowing what to say or when to say it. Biting your tongue is a miserable thing, but when it comes to a profession, its just part of the game sadly. I think he could still get away w/saying this sort of thing, but just even mentioning that he was joking, would calm the liklihood of an outlashing from the fans.

I don't care overall, but I also understand that there are lines you have to draw for yourself when you work in the public eye...Regardless, I wish him luck (& to read the damn books LOL! :p)
  • JamieCullen85
I love David, he's going to do great..... and personally I love Twilight, but the movie, hummmm, not as good as it could of been. It had so much potential, and now it's somewhat ruined. Besides the cast, I think they all turned out perfect, and if it wasn't for them, the movie would of been horrible. I really hope the guys save this franchise, because lets face it, reguardless of how well the movies are made, twifans everywhere will see the movie. I just hope the rest are worth it.
  • lauraseclipse
I agree twilight wasn't as good as it could have been.... but what do you want on a 35 million dollar budget?? (oh my god did i just say that???) I agree the cast made the movie... I mean come on... Charlie was the perfect pick! I too hope the movies don't get ruined ... i sort of look at it like spiderman three not being directed by brian singer... it sort of sucked when it came to story line. And, all the Twilight saga is IS storyline... lets not screw it up anymore than it has been.... I have faith in chris weisz but absolutely no faith in david slade...none whatsoever.... *sigh*
    just my thoughts....
  • JamieCullen85
If I am going off of David's other work, I would say Eclipse is going to be amazing! So far I have nothing bad to say about his directing skills..... even if he is an A-hole!
  • Twilighters
im really worried. It's apparent that he is only in it for the money! he doesnt even seem to like the saga, or at least pretend to. It's obvious that Cathrine and Chris care very much about the saga, and like it.
When Chris was cast as New Moon Director, he sent everyone a letter reassuring us that everything will be ok and he intends to stay very true to the book. Currently im very confident with NM and how its going. Everything looks great!
    David didnt even say anything!!
Meyer has said that Chris is great and all postive things about him when he was signed on.
She hasnt even been asked about her opinion about David.
30 days of night and Hardcandy were really bad, he better keep stephenie in the loop
Eclipse is my fav book and if he wrcks it..there will be a million twihards on his case.
And isnt it mysterious that his twitter was deleted! Prob coz he doesnt want the tons of hate mail he is going to get.
Im seriously worriest about what he is going to do to the saga.
  • oopsiedaisy
I agree with you on all your points and Eclipse is my FAVORITE out of all the books as well, too bad chris couldn't do Eclipse too, i thought 30 days of night was really weak, the story was just dumb. I'm sure there are other directors that would have been a better choice. I just don't want him to screw up the best book.
  • Kassielovesthecullens
There are all kinds of people with different personalitys....even if David slade appears indifferent to the fans of Twilight and generally an A-hole it's his directing ability that counts....he's here to direct a movie....that is his job....as long as he does it with enthusiasm and really brings the book to life....who cares if he's slams Catherine Hardwicks work. Most of us don't know how to make movies...as an insider he may be able to see even more of the mistakes she made. Don't hate the guy for having an opinion and not wanting to kiss all our butts. At the end of the day...as long as he makes a good movie...he's done his job.
  • RainyDayGirl ♥Haiti♥
I don't get the joke. Can some one explain?
  • rachaelwsz
I think he meant that he rather be shot than watch Twilight. lol i have to admit. it is quite a bad joke.
  • dawn
i hope he don,t mess the movie up,, he seems like he,ll do good in eclipse but if he feels that way about twilight im not so sure. guess i,ll hope for the best
  • beeee2222
Im actually really interested to see what he does with Eclipse. We know he can do gore because of 30 days, so the newborn scene should be good, well I guess as good as pg 13 can be.
  • Team Jacward
Personally I dont really care what he THINKS about Twilight as long as he can bring to life a movie that is true to the book. He can hate it for all I care. I mean it seems like Rob Patt isn't to fond of Edward but darnit if he isn't the best Edward ever :-)
  • Kelana
Joke or not, I find those words rather nasty. I've always had the opinion that many jokes are half-meant. And in his case, as a director, he would have been aware that at some point his words would be taken seriously by others, whether he meant them or not. I don't know if he is 'criticizing' "Twilight" as a literary work or the "Twilight" as a movie. He wasn't very specific. He may be entitled to have his own opinions, but as part of the audience I am also entitled to feel offended by them. So as to his handling "Eclipse", I say "Go put your money where your mouth is."
  • i dont think he saw it though.
  • Elloo
Seriously! I agree. I am VERY VERY worried about him directing Eclipse...
If he ruins Eclispe (my favorite book of the series) I will be SO MAD.
  • Lovin_the_Cullens_n_Bella
    I agree.
  • cutesweetiezzz
Same here! Let's hunt him down!
  • Alice Cullen
I'd say let's write letters or something!...I don't like this guy and I don't like his jokes. He should have done what Chris did...we twilighters are sensitive and he should not mess around with Eclipse for his own good!
Oh..I'm really freaking out...I can't help it...Why summit is such in a hurry with Eclipse? We rather wait to see a good movie!!!
  • Lin
I wonder if people think he is "unpleasant" as he says because of the way he looks, haha, cause damn I'd give him his space if he were my boss, or because the things he has said.

I heard the audio, and he does have a pleasant voice despite his crude joking, but if people do look at him and judge the book by its cover do they automatically set those feelings in stone for them and not even give him a chance.
I'm wondering about this because I'm kind of worried for the cast, if they'll get along or will personalities crash, and possibly further affecting the movie.
  • The Popper
*Sigh* My favorite book. Yea, him, great joke! My feathers aren't ruffled, just disappointed. I feel like he's saying, "hey I didn't c twilight. So, no big deal." Its a big deal only b/c of the cast. I assume they all feel they did the best they could as far as acting in the movie & he is just going to blow it off/ not c it, thats pretty harsh. Slade talking, "Well, it really doesn't matter if you've done this before, it probably wasn't good enough anyway." (just b/c it was a diff. director). How selfish and jerkish. And disrespectful, no tact. I'm sure watching the movie wouldn't kill him, not like some of the fans @ NMM.org would like 2. lol
  • Frances
I can't tell if he just "jokingly" insulted, albeit instigated by the interviewer, the Twilight movie, The book and therefore SM, the Twilight director CH, the scriptwriter Rosenburg, or the Cast particularly the main leads Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and their acting, Or no one in particular but everyone involved.
  • The Popper
Confusion is the best defense, he might not even know what he meant either. Maybe he doesn't realize he has a job b/c the 1st movie "wasn't worth watching!" Who knows? I always jokingly insult everything I'm part of/do 2, or do I mean it? Idk, guess! lol

I might have to wait for this movie to be $1 @ redbox if he keeps going on like this!! lol! (c I can tell jokes 2)
  • pauline76
    now i'm scared for Eclipse!!
  • malena
Is it possible to get the mail address of summit ? maybe they are not aware of this, and things may change...
  • Whitneee (aka CB's Angel) 3/09
umehmhem...i think i am too...i dunno maybe he is really "artistic" and stuff and will throw something amazing at us that we don't expect (in a good way)...SURELY he understands whats at stake here *all of us chasing him with a pitchfork if he screws this up* but i guess we'll see...
  • pauline76
don'T worry. melissa will write something good and he will direct it and shut the hell up in the process. he should do his job and keep his stupid remarks for himself. everybody will be happy then
  • malena
The only thing we can hope for is that stephenie meyer keeps an eye on the film and that she will be as straight to what she wanted to this man as she was catherine the first director....after all, these are her books, and she must take care of them, wether it is visually or written.
  • Did she ever write anything to us about whether or she approved of David like she did for Chris?

*gulp* I don't think she did.
  • malena
I have found that stephenie meyer actually did aprove the election of this man, if you look at the pages of summit the studio, under the new of his election stephenie meyer declares to be "thrilled" by such a "visisonary man" adding that from the very beginning they have been "blessed" with such a excellent profesionals....I quote her...and the answer of this man consists in these words...maybe he was complaining about the film and not the books, but anyway...seems to be disrespectful to talk like this...
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
Still, there is no mention of him on SM's website. I find that disturbing. She had letters and press releases regarding Chris Weitz's addition to New Moon. Not a word about this guy and frankly, I'm worried about it.
  • malena
maybe stephenie will change her mind after this, and maybe she´s not going to show it off clearly, but she will have a word with summit for sure...I don´t think she´s going to let that somebody so irrespectful will have anything to do with her "babies" as she calls her books...so different from chris ...he made inmediately an statement so connected with the twilight spirit....
  • pauline76
    i think so
  • meemomoo
I thought I just read something that said he wasn't directing it anymore? I'm gonna have to go back and look for that article after work.
  • sounds like ANOTHER rumor.
  • meemomoo
Nah 'cause if I read it I read it here. I think I misunderstood something during one of my early morning, before coffee NM.org checks.
  • twilightus
OHHHHH ---- you do need to find that article, that would be VERY INTERESTING! WOW
  • RedRei
oh my,see him get ripped into pieces by this fandom, which is so prone to overreaction and over-dramatization.
  • twilightus
I thought I was rather nice in my comment ;) Just do the book justice, and I won't castrate him ==== isn't that fair??????
  • RedRei
I was talking in general,it's almost a sure thing many twihards will be calling for his head after learning what he thinks and has said about this franchise/saga.
  • Team Jacward
    Sounds fair to me
  • Raisa
god..I've got a bad presentiment about eclipse coming out.. I really hope he won't spoil everything..but I feel very nervous about it. I don't know why, but I just don't trust him at all..
    wish i was mistaken
  • Kassielovesthecullens
quit using big words like "presentiment"....I totally had to look it up to make sure it was a real word....LOL.....premonition would have sufficed. LOL
  • twilightus
things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmm. He's certainly one to fit in that category at the moment. Maybe he's had a change of mind, which he's entitled to do so. If Stephenie thinks he's the right guy, can he be that wrong? As long as he keeps the integrity of the book, he can think whatever he wants to about Twilight, I don't care. Just do the book justice and we won't castrate you David!
  • Guess what guys?!?! 200 days until New Moon is in theaters .. now that is something to be excited about!!!!
  • beeee2222
    Woot Woot!! lol
  • rachaelwsz
lol. Was going through the comments and I saw ur icon and went ,"Ah?" lol. Lick him! :D
  • beeee2222
Yea, Thats me licking Rob.. He likes it lol.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    hahahaha your pic rocks! :D
  • beeee2222
    Thanks!!
  • ecbcrc4ever
He better hope he has a romantic side cause he is going to need it in order to bring the love that is expressed in "Eclipse" between Edward and Bella to the big screen. I have no doubt the fight scenes will be great.
  • Kassielovesthecullens
Did you see his ending scene in 30 days of night? It was so sad knowing these two people were in LOve and one had to make an ultimate sacrifice. (didn't want to spoil it for you if not) I think David slade has a great way of showing emotion in relationships and love.
  • yuriinsane
yes i hope not money and ill see eclipse and breaking dawn if it becomes movie im a twilight fan and though i may not like them ill be there
  • I think that he is REALLY going to go in depth w/ Eclipse and the Newborns. I think that he will do the book justice. I mean its not like he wrote the script ... no .. thats just Melissa Rosenberg .. nothing to worry about there...
  • Kassielovesthecullens
I think this guy at least has the balls to tell her her writing is crap....he's not going to bow down and not make changes if something sounds corney or stupid....just what we need!!!!
  • Max
hey, I agree with you but i feel the need to point out to you that Stephenie Meyer is the reason the movies won't be rated R. It's in the movie contract that the ratings of the movies will not exceed PG-13. PLus if it's rated R half the fans couldn't even see it in theaters.
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
What do you mean nothing to worry about? that Melissa Rosen-whatever needs to do MUCH better than she did in Twilight....or....

rip her apart and burn the pieces!!!
  • Kim1524 (Fanfic Junkie)
hey kim i'm back lmao, RUN ROSENBERG RUN LOL!!!!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
LMAO! Melissa's newborns will probably be like "oh, the Cullens... could we please destroy you in a nice PG13 way?"
  • LMAO! Actually, I think that Stephenie has more say over what the rating is and what is or isn't in the script than we all realize.

Open mouth, insert foot. LMAO - you guys are hilarious!
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
I wouldn't be too sure about that. Authors sign over the rights to their book when it's going to be made into a film. I don't think (and don't quote me) that Steph has that much control. If the directors and the studios want a good movie based off a popular book series, then yes, they'll pull in the author for help. It seems they work pretty well with Steph, though, but it's coming down to the bigwigs and the people in charge of making the movie.
  • That is certainly true but with her cameo appearance in Twilight and also how closely Melissa is working with her (interviews with Melissa), she definitely apart of the whole thing. At least I hope so.
  • sixrgirl
exactly. I am now re-reading Eclipse for like the 5th time but now with this new director in mind. There is NO WAY to keep this pg-13 and keep it close to the book. Rosalie's back story- she is gang raped, beaten and left for died. then murders 7 people. The Quinlete storys- a female vamp kills a whole village, the 3rd wife runs a knife thru her heart and blood spurts everywhere. Jaspers back story- the vamp wars. All this and I haven't eve got to the newborn fight yet. This is my favorite book but I really never realized that it is a horror film. He is probably the perfect director. Let's hope MR doesn't mess up the script.
  • Julia
Right but did they show any of Alice's or Carlisle's backstories? (Or even Esme's).... NO. So they probably won't bother with the vampires' backstories. Be realistic. The movie will be 1) newborn vamps + Victoria, 2) Edward and Bella, 3) Jacob and the pack. NOW the issue is what the proportion will be. Fans of the book know that the majority of the story is the romance between Edward and Bella, but hopefully Slade knows that and doesn't try to turn this into a full-on vampire action movie.
  • EddysGal
You've just said EXACTLY my point. People need to be realistic. The absolute main theme throughout the books is the love story between Bella and Edward. The rest of it is background noise. There simply will not be enough time to tell all of those stories. And too, we didn't need massive descriptions through any of those stories, ie Rosalie's, Esme's, Carlisle's, Japer's or even Edward's to get the idea behind what had happened. I don't need to see a violent gang-rape to know that is what happened to Rose. I don't need to see a bunch of rampaging newborns go on a killing spree in Seattle to know that is what happened. Let's stick with the book. Telling any of those stories in detail just means less of the story with Bella dn Edward. Like in Twilight, did I need to see the security guard getting killed or Waylan getting killed? No - they weren't even in the book. When I think of all the things they did not tell about Bella and Edward from the book, it irritates me.
  • Julia
I could see where they were coming from w/ introducing the bad vamps throughout the story, so that during the baseball scene it wasn't just "Hi we're going to kill Bella now" BUT other than that I TOTALLY agree. I don't want them to use valuable Bella/Edward time on something else. Eclipse is, above all else, a love story between Bella and Edward now that Bella and Edward are finally in the same place - Edward doesn't want to eat her, Edward didn't leave her again, etc. This is the story when they develop their relationship as they plan for their future together. The ROMANCE aspect should be stronger than the action, even though we all know the Victoria/newborn action scenes will be there.
  • sixrgirl
Bella and Edward's story is why Eclipse is my favorite book. But re-reading it now really to think in movie terms and setting it up for the climax, it's about the quiluete's and the vamps and them coming together to save bella from victoria and her newborns. You have got to have some kind of backstory with that. Everyone else's stories were not an integral part of what was to come. Jasper's and the Quiluete's are. Unless MR writes a completely new story. Like what are we going to see Victoria changing people? Really New Moon is going to establish the action. It is going to have to continue in Eclipse.
  • EddysGal
I guess it's funny with all the oppinions from all the different fans, but it's sorta agravating as well. Hmm - maybe I'm the oppinionated one? At any rate. I just want to see a good film. Steph wrote an awesome story with these books. I don't want to loose that story. I had to stop commenting a few days ago about the movie rating thing. People were just getting so worked up over it. I think I must have been trying to have a conversation with Junior Highers or something - we just couldn't relate. I've read these books all the way through - including MS 11 times now. And they are still pg-13 to me. When I read the books, yes there is violence, but I guess because of the LOVE in the book, I really do not pay any attention to it. And it's so understated to begin with, that I do not need all the graphic, gorey details to know what happens. Stephy writes too good for that. We still get the picture with out the graphics, ya know? There is NO sex in the books. We do get the tasteful prelude to it and the aftermath of it, but there is NO sex and yet most of the posts I saw were about the sex scenes. It's crazy. I really want Summit to do this book justice and I hope David is paying attention to the fans as well. Afterall, we are his paycheck. Right?
  • hahaha .. they'll walk up to you first, shake your hand and say "Hi, I'm (insert name here). I was just wondering, if it would be ok if I attacked you? Of course, there would be no blood involved, or pain. Really, you won't even see anything. and there will be absolutely NO SEX!!!!"

    hahaha
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    hahahaha :D
"...unless you don't want us to attack. We wouldn't do anything to offend you! By the way, we ADORE your vegetarian life style... maybe we could join your coven?"
  • ohh .. do you fancy a cup of tea?
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    LMAO!
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
    Yes, yes, and oh yes!
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
LOL, this is hilarious! It has to be rated R! COME ON!!!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
not with Ms R. working on the script ;)
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
    We'll go find her!!
  • Daniela23
You know, that made me laugh...He didn't write it, Melissa Rosenberg wrote the script... so nothing to worry about hahaha. I'm just giggling like an idiot now xD
  • RedRei
there's a lot to be worried about,Rosenberg writes the script, nuff said.
  • UKTwi-Hard
Well this is going to be interesting...

I can't wait to see what he is going to do for Eclispe like I said it is going to be very interesting.
  • yuriinsane
i think he will make it good becuase of the battle scene in eclipse also he has a opinion and all i care is that they add major scenes and keep it romantic and that the audience never doubts edwards love for bella then i am ok
  • Daniela23
Oh dear....I hear the gates of hell opening so I'll be quick LOL

I don't know what to think right now...I just hope he accepted to work on Eclipse because he liked the script and not because of the money.

edit: Ha! Ignore that above....After hearing the audio, it sounds really different...just a joke! And a good one btw.
  • neev
    i agree with you!
  • one25centpeice
It'll be interesting to see what this dude comes up with for Eclipse... I'd go see it!!! :]
  • Menna
    Dunno what to say.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
I don't feel offended by what he said about Twilight. he's entitled to have an opinion... especially due to being a movie director himself :) If he wants to make Eclipse different... I say: you go for it, David!
  • Kassielovesthecullens
If anything he"ll make it better.
  • cryebaby70
I agree! I think that it is good that they have changed up the directing style between books! The book evolves with each director......should make it very interesting! This guy seems sorta dark and foreboding....good for the killing scenes but is anyone worried about the romantic scenes? I would be interested to see how he intends to tackle that problem! LOL

*** Now if they would just do something about Melissa - I see these two going at it CONSTANTLY!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    LOL! true! :)
well, he knew what he was getting into... he must've been aware of the fact that romantic scenes in Eclipse are inevitable :) I hope he won't replace them with gore! LOL
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
ok after hearing the audio I'm actually laughing :D not offensive at all! :)
  • Daniela23
Yes! That's what I thought so too.
I didn't even realise at first that there is an aduio. It's interesting how things sound different when you read them.:D
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
yes! we should appeal to all the NMM.org readers: LISTEN BEFORE YOU ACT ;)
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    first? :D
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
    YES! Go joanna go!!!
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    yaaay to me! :D
