Melissa Rosenberg Thinks David Slade is Great, Is David Slade in Vancouver?

in Eclipse

200905081113.jpg Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg thinks David Slade is great, and has posted a message on Facebook to this effect after getting a chance to meet him–

Finally got to spend some time with our new director for Eclipse, David Slade. And I gotta say, he’s great. Very smart, funny, creative. I already knew he was a really talented and visual filmmaker, but now I know he’s terrific to work with as well. Collaborative and, most important (from a writer’s point of view) smart about story, character and emotional arcs. He gets it. And he’s going to make Eclipse into a fantastic movie. So relax Eclipse fans! We’re in good hands.

Perhaps more interesting, though, is why it looks like Eclipse director David Slade is already up in Vancouver–or at least, that’s my best guess after seeing this pic that Lainey Gossip posted. Will work on Eclipse begin soon, or is he just doing recon?

[Thanks Emma, and to everyone that sent the FB link yesterday]

Everyone is talking about how SM would only allow her movies made if they were PG-13, but power and money are absolute. It not to say her values are shot but a person can change there mind and despite everyone thinking she calls the shots in reality its the studio that calls the shots once they have gotten hold of the script. Now they can respect her wishes or the can sit down with her and say okay we want to fudge this or that to tweak how they feel the movie will best entertain and sell to audiences. Its very easy for her to change her mind and she would be entitled too aswell.
As for the writer it's not just about her, its also the director as well thats much to blame. Look how many times the script has been rewritten already , that was probably due to large part of Chris Wietz intervention of the script. The director has just as much blame as the writer if not more so for not intervening. One of the biggest scenes that bugs me the most in Twighlight is the scene where there in the cafateria he catches the apple and asks her what her theories are. My biggest beef with that is continuity. If i were one of those individuals who saw the movie without reading the book I would ask myself "theroies about what?'. If you notice not one dam thing was mentioned about her trying to theroize him. That was a crucial conversation that took place over many talks of him trying to get her thoughts on him. Though they didm't have to put in every conversation they could have put somethign in there in some short form to pull it togther. I as a viewer just had to guess what the hell they were talking about. Fortuantly as a read I already new, but it still irks me everytime i watch it.

Ok, I don't want to hate on Melissa too much b/c if you listened to the commentary on the dvd Catherine said several times that they rewrote rewrote rewrote, like they were making it up on the spot, I think Catherine changed a lot of the script from the original???

Then David Slade I think from what I haved learned about him he is pretty hard core, but brilliant at the same time I watched 30 days of night and its freaky but it had the emotion in there too. He can't go too far off base he'll have 2 films in front of him and books and a script, plus all the cats in charge, I think it will be great. Plus his personality will mesh well with Rob and Kristen I have a feeling.

Then the pg-13 rating I have seen several movies have serious sex scenes, blood, killing, etc; so no worries there I believe they can give it all to us w/o worrying with tarnishing the rating.

I hope he takes this seriously and makes Eclipse awesome, as he is already on my bad side b/c of this: "When asked if he had seen the films, he replied “‘Twilight’ drunk? No, not even drunk. ‘Twilight’ on acid? No, not even on acid? ‘Twilight’ at gun point? Just shoot me." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Slade
Yeah... not amusing... They should have just stuck w/Catherine...
  • kimstuff
The screenplay for New Moon is a million times better than Twilight. MR has stayed very true to the book this time. There are a few minor things changed but nothing like the butcher job of Twilight. I was only slightly preturbed with a couple of changes, but overall a FANTASTIC script. Soooo much better!
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
I won't say anything about him until I see what he creates!! I wanna have faith in him and give him the benefit of the doubt and aggg... but I'm oh so excited that Eclipse might already be starting pre-production... lol... it's crazy... that's such a funny picture of him.. like he's hiding or crying... hehe... it makes me feel a bit better that people are talking great things about him... I just hope that when it comes down to it, ALL of it is true... PLEASE!!!
  • does he look like he's crying?
  • bella vita
That's great, but uh what about you Melissa? Do you get it? Cause it sure doesn't seem like you do especially after your insanely ridiculous recent comments on Breaking Dawn. Honestly David Slade isn't really the one I'm worried about, its you I fear may ruin our beloved saga. If anything my hope is that maybe Slade's darker more rebellious edgy style will find a way to counteract or override you and your boring bland PG-loving story-butchering self enough to keep you from completely ruining Eclipse and turning it into pure tween crap like you did Twilight. Get a clue, this saga was NOT written for tweens so stop writing scripts meant only for them. Its hard to believe this is actually the same woman who writes for Dexter.
  • Mrs. Robsessed
don't candy coat it...tell 'em what u really think-haha!! Ditto on Eclispe. I was just writing about that to someone else. THE whole PG thing is SM fault as well. You know that wasn't going to the big screen unless she could control exactly how things went. I told someone else I better see more than feathers in her hair in BD even though that wouldn't be keeping in line w/ the book....bring on the raunch a little by the end. I mean come on we waited thru four books and four movies??????????????
  • 30yearoldtwifan
    AMEN bellavita!!
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Exactly I have seen questionable PG-13 movies like the Haunting in Connitecut (sp) okay I didn't see it but the trailer is pretty distrubing and I'm glad someone else has brought up the Notebook and it's racy love scenes. Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are both dark but the way SM is a dark and heavy PG-13, I'm sure SM won't oppose to a little more in both EC and BD when it comes to the love scenes, I mean the woman has a bit of a naughty side if she had not written Bella that way seducing Edward, and the whole pack going without clothes when they are shifting but hardcore in your face flesh scene no. As for the scary elements. There is nothing scarier than not knowing what's hidden in your closet or what is lurking you. So for the Seattle scenes to be effective we need to go with the Spielburg effect like in Jaws, we don't know what is killing these people. I mean we the readers would know but the audience who have not would be kept guessing.

Like someone here said lets have a helping of romance with a side of scary.

    true that!!

the only thing i wish is the MR doesn't completely butcher the story line like in twilight..i mean so many critical scenes were taking out of twilight..including the blood testing thing which was one of my favorite scenes because it was so cute and funny. so as long as rosenberg sticks to the book as close as possible i will be fine, because i think they can make the movies (BD and Eclipse) PG-13...because there are lots of movies that are more violent/gorrier/sexual and they get rated PG-13, i mean theres The Notebook that movie had an intense and passionate sex scene, and i mean they get naked the first time they do at the abandoned house...so i don't think the sex will be an issue.. Also there are much more gorrier movies its not like BD/Eclipse and are the next saw movies
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Here's my question though, how much does SM have to say as far as whats "mature" content in a movie and whats not. She sold the rights to summit, so does she really have a say in whats on screen? Yes, Its nice they have her there to get her opinion since this is her baby but who has the final say is my question?

Im just curious. since Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are more mature then Twilight and NM.
  • i agree with the others, I believe she sold copyright to Summit, but the story is still hers. Either way, I'm sure there is a very thick and detailed contract between SM and Summit!
  • brenda_bites
oh also usually the person that has the last say i believe is the director...but he has to sorta comply with SM's wishes
  • brenda_bites
she does have a right to say because even though she sold the rights...she sold her rights stating that she still wanted a say in what was going to happen
and even when someone sells there right they have some say because its still there ideas and stuff
  • Edward 4Ever
Jules60 Edward and Bella say i love you in the book , not in the movie , that´s what i was saying , they should´ve said that in the movie too!!! I don´t know why they cut that from the movie!
  • Frosta
The thing is, MR can only go as far as SM will allow her. The more detail that we want (as far as R rated things) she simply isn't allowed to do it because of SM. I personally think that whole deal is a little odd ....a person can write something and visualize it in their minds , yet they can't see it on the screen. But hey, to each their own. I'm not gonna bash anyone's religion. My only issue with Twilight's screenplay was it was rushed. We did not get to see the relationship build the way it should have. It was all just boom boom boom done. I do understand that you can only fit so much into a movie, but MR could have been a little more selective about what to leave in and out. Another thing that bothered me with Twilight was the special effects. But that fault lies on Summit with such a low budget. A director can't exactly go all out with such a seriously low budget ( Edward's glitter lmao) I am still concerned with the budget of NM even with it being larger than Twilight's. It is larger, but also there is alot more to NM. You have a much larger cast with the wolves, the volturi, the shooting in Italy. Think of the cost of those things alone, not to mention the special effects needed to make this movie right. Summit needs to open up the purse strings.
  • ABSOLUTELY! I couldn't agree with you more. Everytime I read Twilight, I FEEL the whole story. The love and angst, the need they BOTH have and that's because SM wrote it s eloquently and passionately. Every bit of that is missing in the movie and it breaks my heart. I know that may sound dramatic but its how I feel.

I feel so strongly about these characters she has created, the love story they are caught in and I could not wait to see that come to life on the big screen. I was devastated when I watched it the first time. My husband, who hasn't read the books and never will, watched the movie wtih me and couldn't understand where my obsession came from. He thought it was a silly teenage love story that just had cool action scenes.

I was able to take more from the movie because I KNEW what really happens between them and could...fill in the blanks. But it makes me sad for the people who haven't read the books and probably never will and just watched the movie.
  • cant wait for eclispe :D
  • I was pist mellisa tweaked around the meadow scene quite frankly! i think i would have been ok with an extra 20 minutes so it could follow the actual story line. And now because they left out the importance of the meadow it messes with NM.
Maybe its not such a VITAL part but i found it important. I wish they would of showed the meadow as EDWARD's meadow instead of just some place they stumbled onto while ditching school.
  • jules60
You are right, I didn't know that was Edward's special place. I saw the movie before I read all the books, which I have read now 5 times. LOL
  • Edward 4Ever
I agree with u guys, the bedroom scene in twilight was so incomplete!!!!They should´ve done the part when Bella wakes up and he´s still there and she says i love u right???? And the part in the hospital where he says i love u ....that was so awful that wasn´t on the movie!!!
  • jules60
When did he say I love you, I just watched the movie again, I didn't see him say I love you in the hospital. I heard him say where am I going to go, and that's it.
  • lisa
WE are not worried about the director (since Catherine is gone), we are worried about You, Melissa. God I pray you don't f#@k up the next three movies like you did Twilight.
  • Edward 4Ever
I agree i love harry potter and i love the movies as much as the books which didn´t happen in the first twilight movie , i was shocked in the cinema when i saw the whole story different from the book and Nikki as Rosalie and even Kristen didn´t do a good job as Bella which made me really disapointed...Stephenie should´ve had more say in the movie i read that she told rob and kristen to do their parts as they wanted, can u believe that???So the result was a desapointing movie!
  • Edward 4Ever
I can´t wait for Eclipse!!!! It´s my favourite book ever!!!!!! I hope Melissa will do a better job than twilight which she butchered and made a completely diferent story , how did Stephenie alow that???? Can´t wait for the Edward´s bedroom scenes in eclipse!!! June 2010 I CAN´T WAIT!!!
  • unicorn glow(vampire_vixen)
I totally agree with you all.. I hope melissa gets it this time instead of that wack job she did with twilight..I love and know kristen is one of hollywoods best and honestly, only rob and billy burk to me were the best in the film...kristen didn't have enough good lines or emotions in the script to work with and she is such a good actress...

I don't care if melissa writes for dexter , she fukk twilight up and I was mad that steph sat there andf allow this...I just hope steph becomes more stronger and get ready to take melissa to la push and push her over the cliff if she messes up...

They also need to show the love in eclipse because bella and edward love really do developsa in this..and definatelly, the bed scene, gosh.. I want to hear bella begging. Edwards for sex, lol and him trying to refuse and breaking the funiture...LMao.. I also want to see them trying to get it on and edward saying, "bella, would u stop trying tro take your clothes off".. o lawd...I want to see jacob getting a glimsp into edward's head when they are camping...jake says, "bella you will warm up faster if you take your clothes off, and ohhhh..jake and bella hot and steamy kisss....gosh man I will stop

This is a warning melissa, you see all the demands in this post, these are just a few of the things that make eclipse grreat and if you make it too kid like, we will definately take you to la push for cliff diving....please write a great script like the book...this ain't disney or hanna montana, and also the notebook was steamy and still pg_13.. so watch out...
  • ♥Krisbert76♥
For me, I can't wait for Breaking Dawn, as I want to see the honeymoon scene !!! ACTION!!!! I think BD is my fave book fr the series, unless MIDNIGHT SUN comes out, it will be that ... as I LOVE EDWARD's mind and thoughts ... lol
Stephenie should be as firm and stern as JK Rowling ... with the movie version ... maybe she's just happy that her books are being made into movies, that's enough for her ...
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Nevermind, I though a mature conversation was allowed but I guess I was wrong and for the record I wasnt bashing anyone, stating an opinion and fears on a series I love isnt bashing.
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Did I say you couldn't? don't need to get touchy.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Im talking about Eclipse NOT NM. And yes I can say my opinion.
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Okay I'm confused people have been saying they can't wait for November to see the movie and at the same time, the screen writer is getting bashed and people want her gone? Stephenie, the actors, even the new actors, have nothing but praise for the ways things are going in NM. So what gives? help me out here because I'm getting a head ache.

CW is the gang are getting praised for the work they are doing in NM
    Yet Melissa is getting bashed?
  • lisa
Melissa is getting bashed because her screenplay for Twilight totally sucked. Three things were wrong with Twilight: 1. Bad Screenplay 2. Bad Director 3 Low Budget. Now that Catherine and gone and the budget is higher, the only common denominator left is Melissa. New Moon looks and sounds a thousand times better because of CW, a higher budget and great casting with the wolves and Voltari. And since Chris Wietz also does screenplays hopefully he will fix whatever Melissa has screwed up. People are hopeful thats why we can't wait for November. People are hopeful for the charactors and stroy they see in their heads while reading to come to life on the big screen~the love story, the creepiness of the Voltari, the excitment of Italy, the phasing of the wolf pack. The look of a well put together movie, not a after school special filled with bloopers, bad editing, bad dialog (ie Melissa), missing key scenes (ie Melissa) and chessy special effects. Hope that helps your headache:)
  • unicorn glow(vampire_vixen)
Hell yea, you know you have a good director in CW when he says things like, the wolves will have the actors eyes, that's vision to me.. I honestly think that CH wouldn't have been able to pull off new moon and eclipse..hopefully david does a great job because I am wprry about the romance part which is so much in the third book.. I know david knows gross and gore stuff, but please have the romance...

Melissa writes for dexter, who cares, she fukk twilight up and lawd I am so worried bout BD. being in her hands..I am already starting to have headaches..lol and its too early for that...

My thing is, if teens are allow to read the book, which is more detailed and includes using one's imagination, and we know the teens of today, then why can't they see the exact same thing on screen..and also if steph was worry about sexual stuff, then she should have written children, no offense to her and I love her, but I am sick of hearing people say, "steph haven't seen an rated r movie and also all the gore and blood and the sex in BD .... she wrote it, so let them show it...I don't care.. let them show a full sex scene/making love because kids know where babies come from or how they are mad, don't give me that crap.. the same kids they trying to hide stuff from read these books.. I personally will let my little sis read it when she's 17 and parents need to be in control of what their kids are doing...

Sorry, long post, but if it walks like a duck, then it quacks like one.. therefore if steph wrote the book a certain way, it should be shown that way..I just hope she ain't just gonna sit on the sideline and say, "I am getting a check so I don't care..as long as its made"..lol..man I hope you guys feel me on this
  • Mrs. Robsessed
yep...i feel your pain!! Give me more that feathers please and your right they already went there in their mind so who gives a s _ _ _. Unfortunately its about money for the studio too. They think if they turn into r they will lose half of their audience. all i can say is if they keep it pg-13 please give us some ruanch in the extra deleted scenes!
  • 30yearoldtwifan
See thats why I get annoyed with SM, I mean just because she doesnt believe in rated PG13 or RatedR means the movie will be watered down and cant just be..
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
It was SM who said no to a rated R ratings because she can't watch Rated R films.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I have TOTAL faith in Slade, if anything I'm counting on him, but I really think the script for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn will be watered down. It would be cool if for BD Summit got a different screen writer. Just for a change.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I know Vampgirl, then why is she so set on keeping our saga rated PG? ya know what I mean. Or is it SM?
  • Mrs. Robsessed
probably the studio is set on it too.....although not written for teens they know they will lose half of their audience if it's an R rating. It's all about the money!
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
I have seen 30 Days of Night so the man is not squmish to Gore, as for the sensuality. UM Star Trek is PG-13 and there is a freakin sex scene in there. As for Melissa, she writes for Dexter about a serial killer?
  • 30yearoldtwifan
And if I know David Slade, his vision might be different then SM or Rosenburgs.
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Well Stephenie and the gang seem to love what she has done with it. And remenber there is no I in team.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
Does anyone here know how making a film works? Like who has the final say? the director or the writer or since SM sold the rights to all the books does she "really" have a say in how the film turns out? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just so nervous Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are going to be so watered down.
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Stephenie is opened to changes, the reason she has told Catherine to tune down the first bedroom scene it was too soon for Bella and Edward to even go there. But what has she said about NM is very encouraging, well just by the twitters provided by Michael and Jaime. New Moon is going to blow Twilight out of the water. Like Twilight was the experiment. NM is the real thing

As for Breaking Dawn. I'm sure they won't mind showing some skin, and a tastefully done love scene, That we all can we pleased with like a longer moonlight swim (Rob has had practice with that already), a little more Isle Esme lovin. We do need it to become a porn. and NC-17 rating is a kiss of death because Movie Plexes won't show those.
  • Mrs. Robsessed
seriously...it doesn't need to be nc-17 but please give us more than feathers. Don't know if anyone saw the notebook but that is a perfect pg-13 love scene...when she comes back after 7yrs-love it! That bedroom scene that SM toned down really pissed me off bcuz i think it was fine for them to go there....she wanted him to kiss her for so long....very obvious. Don't get me started on that one-gah!!!!
  • mschicklet
I really don't understand all the nervousness saying that BD will be crap if it's not rated R. there are a lot of rated R movies out there that are horrible. BD can easily be PG 13 and, if done the way the book was written (where nothing is shown explicitly, the sex is just implied), it can be a REALLY good movie with a pg 13 rating. Seriously guys, it's going to be fine as long as the script is written well. The book definitely wasn't rated R or NC 17, it was PG 13 maximum, and the movie should mirror the book.
  • NuttyNetty
is it just me or does anybody not trust Melissa's say on what's great for the twilight saga. i didn't like what she did with the script of twilight and i'm HOPEFUL about New Moon... i'm paranoid about eclipse, it's one of my faves of the series so i'm jfo;awjfoewfija going insane thinkin about all the ways they will mess it up lol
  • patty
ooo elcispe is gonna be great!
  • bookobsessed
Can we switch him for J J Abrams? Please!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you just imagine the possibilities.....
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
I've got a feeling that Melissa's enthusiasm about David's attitude doesn't bode well for Eclipse... I can see a pg-13 script coming. *sigh*
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
    *sobs loudly*
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
There are some pretty graphic PG-13 movies out there and Stephenie allowed her books to be made into movies as long as they were kept PG-13, so even if Melissa and David wanted more, Stephenie is still calling the shots here.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
well in that case... they'd better make it an upper-pg-13 ;)
to be honest I wouldn't want Eclipse to be made in 'Twilight style', with all the spicy scenes available only on the 'extras' dvd.
  • patty
um in ste thes t,ate tiwligth awas pg 13, pg 13/ pg ni cnanada
  • twifan89
the first thing i thought was..is anything Rosenberg says really going to make me feel any better? i need to here it from stephenie to feel ok about it!
  • 30yearoldtwifan
"sigh" I agree. I was hoping with David we might have a rated r chance, but I don't think so. I think that's more Stephenie Myers though. She wont watch rated r so we wont get it either. :-(
  • mschicklet
PG 13 isn't so bad. Just because a movie is rated R doesn't automatically make it good. If the script is written well enough and the direction is good enough, a PG13 movie can be great.
  • Jennifer
I think they can get pretty far with a PG-13. (The Notebook?)

I just keep trying to remind myself that Stephenie always cuts out before it goes too far as well.
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Thank you Jennife, The Notebook has got a Graphic love scene, and it's guess what PG-13. Oh my Goodness what do you know.
  • Jennifer
:) I Love that movie as well. And, I also feel that the sex scenes are enough. I think the same same type would be enough for Eclipse and BD also. It's nice to leave a little up to the imagination!
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
The Grudge was PG-13 and that movie scared the living daylights out of me. I think we have the right balance of romance and scare factor we will be alright. One thing I liked it the movie that I didn't in the book was Bella. I loved Bella in the book but I hated her sometimes. So one thing they got right.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
true, such a shame though :(
  • Whats disappointing is that we are all going to go see it no matter what (of course) but this book is so important to the series and though i'm sure they can go pretty far with PG13, imagine what the movie would be like if it was R and the possibilites were basically endless.
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
I swear I'll build him a monument if he manages to make pg 13 newborns look convincing!
  • mschicklet
It's really a 3 part thing... 1) The director, 2) the screenwriter, 3) the actors.

The director has to have the right vision for the tone of the movie. The screenwriter has to write the scenes close enough to the book, and the actors need to create the characters the way they were portrayed in the book. Rob is a wonderful actor, but I really hope that in Eclipse he channels "romantic dazzling Edward" rather than "conflicted, dark Edward." Because that's just how I imagine Edward in Eclipse and that's why I love that particular book the most. *crosses fingers*
  • Mrs. Robsessed
My fave book too....love it! Can't say enuf about it and I think youdon't have to worry about Rob channeling all that needs to be channeled!! He is a great actor and it pains me when i hear himsay things like "I don't just want to be that Twilight guy." It is a huge feat to be Edward because he is a very complicated character to play I think. I never really saw him as dark in Eclispe (although he will always possess that side of him). It's interesting to hear you saw him like that. I definitely saw his controlling side come out but at the same time it was so precious bcuz he is so sweet how he always wants to keep her safe....of course the whole book i was thinking, "stop whining Bella about being kidnapped. I'd give anything to be in your shoes"-haha! Of course I wish it was Rob that would kidnap me though-haha! I thought Edward was a lot more conflicted In BD...that was so heart wrenching to watch/listen to him during the pregnancy. It was very Wuthering Heights...when Heathcliff goes to be w/ her when she's sick.........so tortured. SM mirrors a lot of classic themes in her books!!
  • mschicklet
I don't mean the controlling side. I actually LIKE that Edward is sort of possessive and controlling. I just mean that, above all else, he loves Bella more than anything and in Twilight, with the exception of like 3 small parts, it didn't seem like Rob was conveying the "love." He came across as more "brooding" than Edward was, more unsure of his love for Bella -- whereas, even in the first book, Edward knew at least halfway in that he was madly in love with Bella. After New Moon and especially in Eclipse, Edward is way more confident in himself to not kill Bella, so he's more affectionate toward her. So I just hope Rob understands that and portrays the character that way in the sequels.
  • Mrs. Robsessed
oh yea...i see what u mean. That's what i didn't like about Twilight either bcuz in the book he tells her he loves her so much, all of the time and never really does it in the movie. it really bothered me and being that Rob had read all of the books it would have been nice for him to reveal that as well. But that's SM, Melissa's, Catherines fault too. SM was so anal about makign sure she approved everything (rightfully so) that you would think she would insist on one I love you-gah!!! I think the one reason he brought that element/attitude to the big screen was bcuz he actually read Midnight Sun too. So, if you have read midnight Sun you can tell that's where he was going w/ Edward a little bit......brooding/dark!! While I was very impressed he read it there was a part of me that wishes he hadn't-haha!!
  • mschicklet
Yea but Rob actually said that he LIKED Edward's dark and vicious side, as portrayed at the beginning of Midnight Sun when Edward honestly wants to kill Bella and tries to fight the urge. He said he wanted to make the character like that -- dealing with that dangerous internal struggle -- through the entire movie. And that pissed me off because it wasn't how the character was throughout the entire book. Just at the beginning. He took too much artistic liberty IMO but hopefully he gets it right in the sequels :) I also think it was sort of Catherine's fault for not telling him to correct himself. She said in the commentary that she didn't like to stomp on people's creativity. Well, Catherine, as director of the movie, THAT'S YOUR JOB! Tell people how to portray their damn characters, especially when the integrity of the original source material (the book) is being compromised.

Sorry for that soapbox moment. I just imagine Edward much different than he was portrayed in Twilight and I really don't want my vision of Edward to be tarnished in the sequels (esp. Eclipse because I thought Edward was most romantic in that one) :)
  • Mrs. Robsessed
Your soapbox moments??? Look at all my posts...their all as long as yours-haha! But I know what u mean...he did take too much liberty w/ that side of Edward and yes Catherine should do her job and SM should have insisted as well. It's so funny when he's interviewed about New Moon, bcuz u can tell he's really getting off on being, "quite scary," I want to say, okay ,get it out of your system now bcuz come Eclispe we want to see 'DAZZLING' or as you call it romance. He will get his chance to be scary during the big fight scene.....get it out of your system when you decapitate Victoria. It's too much for them to both be brooding. Bella's always brooding ( or I suppose whining is a better word) I don't want a b-day, i don't want a new car, i don't want a grad party, i don't want a wedding. Just shut up already!! But it's funny bcuz on screen she's not so much that way so there was a bit of a role reversal I would say......and i am shocked SM let that happen. Well, I m glad these are turning into a book club meeting bcuz it has diverted me fr/ missing my Spunk-haha. Where is he?? Do U like ROB??
  • mschicklet
I agree with everything you said. I just hope Rob stops trying to take so many creative liberties with the way he approaches the character, only because i want the movies to turn out like the book. The plot I'm ok about being a little loose on, but the characters need to be portrayed a certain way for it to be accurate enough. We want to see Edward brought to life. YES I do like Rob but I'm more and Edward fan than a Rob fan lol. I just get attached to the characters and kind of ignore the actors' personal lives (for the most part). I do think Rob was hilarious in the dvd commentary though. He's a funny guy. He seems like a cool guy to be friends w/ but I'm not ga ga over him because he's not Edward in real life. I'm ga ga over Edward LOL More "Rob" for you I guess!! :)
  • Mrs. Robsessed
LET'S HOPE DAVID CAPTURES THE SEXUAL TENSION IN ECLISPE VERY WELL BCUZ THERE IS SO MUCH OF IT!! Does anyone have a clue how Rob is shooting Eclispe and these other two movies (memoirs, the French thing) at the same time>> Bcuz i have read things that they all start shooting those this summer. That has got to be a mistake...how could you do that. Something's gotta give.
  • pamloves
eclipse doens't start filming until august and that french movie doesn't sart until january i think. memoirs start after he is finish filming his part in ne wmoon
  • Mrs. Robsessed
GAWD FINALLY SOMEONE CLEARED THAT UP. i WAS LIKE HOW THE HELL IS HE GOING TO DO ALL OF THAT AT ONCE. But if the FRENCH ONE DOESN'T START UNTIL jAN THAT MAKES SENSE. bUT THAT IS STILL A a crazy ass schedule bcuz i bet after the french flick he will go into Breaking Dawn. Do u know the start date for that??? At least he won't be in Italy for Eclispe and BD...........won't be able to hide as easily-haha!! I miss him already. Hurry up NOV!!
  • I KNOW! One of my favorite parts in Eclipse is when she is trying to "seduce" him on the bed and this scene better not be skipped over because it leads into a major part of the story. I just hope Slade has the balls to step up to Melissa if she is going the wrong way with the script
  • TeamSwitzcob (TRotation/Meg)
Slade doesn't look like he's a pushover at all. He could stomp all over MR, I'm sure. Should be interesting.. her a dippy PGer and he seems more like an R. Sounds like we'll get a good version of PG-13. I don't really want an R. I don't think even BD would be rated R going by the book. It's a little gory, a little sexual, but nothing major. That's the way the movie should be.
  • Jennifer
I too think it's a major scene and VERY important. I will be really upset if either of them screws with it!
  • Mrs. Robsessed
my fave part too. But i was actually kind of worried about the reverse....Melissa keeping that sexual tension in and David screwing that up but hopefully neither will happen. The other problem is SM too...since nothing is every very risque in her books she won't really let it veer too much fr/ the book....she's a little too tame for my taste!! I read/heard how the bedroom scene in Twilight was a little too risque for Stephenie's liking the way it was originally written......so of course she came in and tweaked that!! ALL i can say is (and I have said it a million x's on here) is they better bring on a little raunch in BD...i just don't want feathers in the hair. We have waited thru four books for God's sake give us more than feathers. Never really understood why she did that in BD....if she wrote that seduction scene in Eclispe then why couldn't she have at least given us that much during a honeymoon-arghhh!! The mormon thing really gets on my nerves.....no offense if you are but I am guessing not!!
  • Oh no, no offense taken at all! Completely understand what you mean. I mean this woman has written a love story that has been compared to Romeo & Juliet for crying out loud!!! And while I respect her writing its probably the only thing I would want to change (ever so slightly) is just alittle more detail!! She teases us at so many other parts in the books but when it FINALLY came down to the real deal she ends the chapter and picks up after it's over I CRIED!!!!!

I had not heard that about the bedroom scene. How in the world can she write something SOO passionate and heartfelt and then expect it to be toned down on the big screen??!? Really, in my opinion, the bedroom scene was not what it should have been. It should have been MORE than it was more conversation and um...interaction between them. It all happened so quickly and it really left me wanting...
  • Mrs. Robsessed
exactly.....i was like okay if you are going to cut off the kissing (stupid) why the hell would you dub out their voices when they are talking-ahhh!! Irritating. That was such a huge part that was missing in Twilight....all of their dialogue and conversation.
  • i know they're doing a two month break between new moon and eclipse but i dunno how rob is gonna pull it off even with that tiny break. I have never seen a full movie get shot in two months and three movies at one time could seriously drain rob to death. And no offense rob but i dont wanna see an edward who looks like he could drop and start snoring at any given moment.
  • jules60
Think of it this way, we work everyday, with only a two vacation. This is his job, so I think he can do it. I don’t know about anybody else, my job is demanding, I check here on my breaks and at lunch, and right before I go home. I can also check from my phone, which makes it a little easier for me. Right now it’s lunch time, so I can be here.
  • Mrs. Robsessed
i know they have that 2 mo. break but how the hell do u do 2 movies during that 2 mo break??? I have read they are both filming this summer...i suppose you would have to go back and forth but NY to Paris, come on! That's just way too much. Maybe Memoirs isn't a huge part and can conceivably be "squeezed" in. Can u imagine starting in on Eclispe and then having to do press for NM at the same time??? WOW! I don't like it when he looks tired..........he also looks like he needs a big hamburger. It doesn't look like he's eating. Did you notice In Twilight he has more meat on him??? I mean he actually looks like he has an ass in Twilight but it''s starting to disappear ;o( I'l ltake him either way though!!
  • Yeah i noticed he looked alot slimmer and his cheeks seem more hollow. It worries me. I think he works himself too hard.
  • mschicklet
I heard that Eclipse doesn't start shooting til August, so they have from like June til August to shoot their other stuff.
  • Mrs. Robsessed
i know...but look at my comment below....how the hell do u shoot 2 other movies in 2 mos!! Then bam start w/ eclsipe and all the ridiculous press w/ NM... photo shoots, interviews, etc.
  • EddysGal
Personally, I hope it's both. Let's have him do his recon, I'll help if he needs some help and then let's get busy filming Eclipse! I mean seriously, why wait until August? I'd help with that too. "Sure, Rob, you need some water? Coming right up. A back rub too? Of course. Anything else my Darling Edward-Rob you?"
  • ahahaha!
    *british accent*
ahhhh.....your back rubs are like a drug to me!
  • mschicklet
Thanks, Melissa Rosenberg... Now, uhm, I gotta ask... do YOU "get it"? Pls 2 hav better screenplay than Twilight screenplay. thx ;)
  • 30yearoldtwifan
I agree chicklet! Does Rosenberg get it? I don't know, with her comments last month that the saga is only for "Tweens" I don't have much faith in her, but we shall see!
  • Jennifer
I'm the same as you. There are LOTS of non-tweens who like this series. In fact, Stephenie didn't really intend it for the tween set to begin with.

The Notebook got pretty hot and heavy and it's only PG-13. Maybe they will at least make it that!
  • AMEN! So well said! I'm not totally convinced that she does. She should partner up with Disney or something and leave our beloved Romance ALONE!
  • lol yeah she totally belong there!

And aww is David Slade crying in that pic :p guess it's about time to just leave him alone twilighters ..I mean he already said he didn't really mean those things he said lol
  • Ok, What I meant by the comment was that if she wants to right sweet little innocent scripts meant for virgin ears she should do it somewhere and stop trying to change the way Twilight was written.
  • Mrs. Robsessed
yep.....my sentiments exactly. Look at comments at the top...scroll!!!! I hope she got so much heat for not sticking to the book that things will be different but who knows. Everyone in Hollywood has such huge egos that you can't tell any of them what to do!! Spunk doesn't have one which is what made me fall more in love w/ him....let's hope he stays that way. Probably will because old souls don't change and he is defintely an old soul.
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Disney is also the boss of Grey's Anatomy.
  • ??? I've never watched Grey's Anatomy
  • TeamGreyT-Shirt
Well Grey's Anatomy is about a hospital in Seattle, Washington. And the show contains sexual situations. And it's own by Disney, So Disney is not afraid of sex.
  • Oh I KNOW what Grey's is I just never watched it. I used the Disney analogy because it was the first thing I thought of when thinking of kids movies. Because thats the main thing they are known for.
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
Did you watch Grey's last night Vampgirl. I hate to say it but the tears were streaming down... What a sad, sad confession I just made.
  • 30yearoldtwifan
    LOL so true!!
  • ishta
that is stupid, have you seen other work she has done. Dexter
  • mschicklet
Dexter is one of the best-written shows out there...I think she's done a great job there. Maybe she should stick to TV rather than romance movies?
  • NO thankfully I haven't seen anything else she has done
  • pinkpokadott
sooo i was just thinking...Mayb just mayb this will be a good balance for Eclipse...his understanding of the story with her P-G13nesss...mayb he'll sway her..after all he is the director, its in his hands...=)
  • Oh Lord let's pray that's the way it works out!
  • daniel_cullen
I'm with you mschicklet.. I really don't even want to hear from her. She must have more clout with Summit than she deserves. She has done a horrible job up to this point. I really get the feeling that she won't put in all the scenes in the next couple of books. All fluff.. That really bites!
  • mschicklet
I just really want her to get the romantic parts right in Eclipse (between Edward and Bella). It's my fave book bc of the sappy parts. I just don't want her to screw that up.
  • Exactly! Eclipse is the ONLY thing that gets me through New Moon. Yes, it's devastating when he leaves but when he comes back BOY does he make it up in Eclipse. I feel like their relationship really comes alive in this book and can't say it enough how important it will be to SHOW that in the movie
  • daniel_cullen
I hope they include the proposal in new moon.. It seems like that was something that she really wanted but had to deal with her personal issues.. Yes, I've read it and this is the only huge problem I see.. I dunno this is such an emotional book I hope she gets it right.
  • Rob_is_my_Kryptonite
I agree! Melissa AND David both need to bring their BEST to ECLIPSE!!! OR ELSE ;)
  • stehfuhknee_hale
yeah, cuz we REALLY care what Melissa Rosenberg thinks....<----immense sarcasm.

yeah, judging by this main pic, it looks like David Slade. I can tell by that murse he's wearing. (man purse)
  • Kimberlina Dirty Pirate Hooker
Is this the best you can do today Lainey? Track down our Rob!!!
  • i love rob
OMG!!! And just think when he leaves for Europe!!!! You know he really hides out there!!! What are we going to do?????

  • 30yearoldtwifan
OMG I think I need to make a trip to Europe when I know hes going back!
  • i love rob
Mmmmm....Europe in the summer, sounds like a great vacation!!!
  • Mrs. Robsessed
i know....that's what I am saying already. Rob baby: "I'm not afraid of you, I am only afriad of losing you. I feel like you are going to disappear"-haha I am having a panic attack just thinking about it. Let's pray for some stalkarazzi's. OMG....your pic w/ his hand in his hair....I CAN'T STAND IT!!

  • Mayra
yeah!!! I am Beta then!!! jajaja! Finally
  • I haven't clicked to look at the pictures, but how can they tell if he's in Vancouver? Or is that just speculation because he's at an airport? hmmmmmmm.
  • I've never seen a Punkd pic outside of Van, I think that photographer only shoots there.
  • oh ok! ps- thanks for the awesome site!
  • ♥Luvsthacoldnhotguys♥
wow, he's already there??? that's crazy... maybe he's going to see the sets and figure out how he's gonna start and plan ahead... but who knows?? Lol
  • Irishgirl
It's possible he's doing some location scouting. Perhaps meeting with producers or Stephenie, since it seems she's in town. I wouldn't be surprised if he was also there to talk to the cast that is in town and see them work, since he doesn't have a finished film to see.
  • ♥Luvsthacoldnhotguys♥
you know what, i agree with you... he could be doing all those things especially talkin to the cast... maybe to get acquainted with each other and to feel more comfortable around each other....

    cool! lol♥
  • Charlottehardisty
    1st?
  • thats not a very enthusiastic "first" my friend.
