Mothers’ Relationships Grow Through Twilight Bond

in Twilight

200905100304.jpgThe New Mexico paper The Daily Times has a really sweet article just in time for Mother’s Day about the close bonds people of all types–but particurly moms–have found within the world of Twilight. The article focuses on the excellent TwilightMoms website, and also notes that family bonds are strengthened with common interest in Twilight–

This entire family is swept up in the world that is “Twilight,” yet there are other stories similar to theirs, according to Hansen. She said “Twilight” continues to bring people together.

“It’s brought me and my sisters closer together. It’s brought mothers and sons closer together,” she said.

“Twilight” also is multi-generational, appealing to people of all ages.

“The older generation and the teenage generation, we’re able to relate on a different level,” Hansen said. “It’s more than this awesome vampire book that we’re all obsessed with. It opened up lines of communication between all different people.”

Hopefully I can speak for every TwiSon and TwiDaughter and let the TwiMoms know: We♥You! Have a Fantastic Day!

Twilight Moms: Mothers’ relationships grow through popular book

Hello ladies! Hope it was a wonderful MoMs day for all us TwiMoMs<3<3<3
  • kygal
My grandmother, 80 yrs old, will several times a year she'll send me some "mystery" book. Like James Patterson or some other book of the month club. Anyway I dutifully read them and it gives us something to chat about. So I suggested she read Twilight. Well, she's now on Eclipse and loves them! We talk all the time and she loves that I'm keeping up with the filming of New Moon and who's going to be in it. She's so excited! We might even fly her to see us in November so we can see New Moon together when it comes out! She has no concept of using the computer, but she read a little of the Midnight Sun excerpt on my computer and she is so excited about it!!!

So thanks Stephenie for writing a truly mulitgenerational series!!
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
Aww that is SO sweet!!! My mom doesn't speak English and I've given good thought on buying her the spanish version but I KNOW that she won't have time to read them.... such a busy woman she is but I love her for that =]
Although, I must say that I got closer to my sister-in-law and my older sister because of the TWILIGHT SAGA... it's so amazing and now we try and relate EVERYTHING to Twilight... lol... But I also agree w/ most of you here... I feel that thanks to Will for creating this website, I have gained an INTERNATIONAL family that I truly LOVE w/ all my heart... you guys rule my days... thx!

Happy Momma's Day again too all my TwiMoms here :-)

My mom and I are now like best friends because of Twilight. My dad and brother both think we've gone crazy. All of my friends like Twilight, just aren't obsessed with it like me. I think it's nice having someone to tell everything to. Happy Mother's Day to all moms!
  • LGerrard
    I have a question..
I'm only 19, but I have a 5 month old son. Does that make me a Twi-Mom or just a TwiHardFan?? Lol.

My son has to watch the film with me (although obviously he doesn't know what it is) & I plan on making it a household rule to read the books when he's old enough... Unfortunately I don't talk to my mom but me & my little sister are tooootally closer thanks to the books!
She's only 16 so she gets all squealy about everything rather than liking deep conversations so I'm waiting 'til she's a little older to reeaally get into it! Hehe.

I don't think Twi-Fever has really hit the UK as hard as it has in the US but just so everyone knows, there are some Brits who are truuuuully obssessed =]

    xx
  • HAPpy Mother's DAy!!!!! yay to all mothers out there :D

  • jcrunswithvamps
I was the first out of my friends to read the series but we all went and saw the movie together (before I read the books) and we all liked it. After I read the books I started pimping them out to everyone lol. I just recently got my younger sister into it and my mom likes the movie. I think it's really cool how so many different people can enjoy a series so much. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. haha

    Happy Mommy's Day :D
  • La_Tua_Cantante
It has brought my 13 year old daughter and I closer. What was even more amazing to me was I let my 75 year old aunt borrow the movie because she used to live in Washington and always told me about the la push area and I knew she would love the scenery in the movie. That same evening she called and told me she loved the movie but would not be bringing it back for awhile because she wanted to watch it a few more times. This week I gave her Twilight and New Moon to read...she is finished and I promised Eclipse and Breaking Dawn today. Like she said it is just a beautifully written timeless love story for all ages. It is funny though because she is bigger fans of the doctor and Charlie...maybe so she doesn't feel so creepy crushing on the younger ones LOL

    Happy Mother's Day !
  • RobCakes
My mum thinks I'm crazy for talking about Twilight and Rob so much, she didn't mind the movie but she won't read the books : ( so I'm kind of alone in my family now. I'm glad people here are just as obessed about the saga though : )
  • Kym
I agree twilight has brought me and my teenage daughter together,it is something we can talk about and analyze.I even checked her out of school the day the movie was released so we could go to the noon showing. How many moms would do that???
Ohh and I know several teenage girls that thought Charlie was cute,I am Team Carlisle though.
  • sophiex
that's like me. my mom & my sis! we bonded over it! my mom got all the other moms in my little sis's school into twilight! lol!
  • mlj (Team Pea Coat)
My mom was the one who got me into Twilight...she is an addict and has happily passed that gene down to me!

Happy Mom's Day to all the Twi-Moms! Its your day so get your "fix"!
  • ell
I have to say, that since I've started reading Twilight and then spoke to my Mom about it and she caught up to me, we became even best friends.
But of course Dad hates Twilight just like anything else that drives me and Mom insane. But honestly, I think he's just jealous, that he doesn't sparkle or even turn into a horse-sized wolf xD
Anyway, I think Twilight is the best family-glue that have ever appeared. Kudos for Steph!
Btw, I love you site. Congrats for it.
  • bookobsessed
So for mom's day my daughters got together to get me a flat screen for over the fireplace in the bedroom. They told me that I can now feed my Twilight obsession while dad's watching football. They know me so well. *sigh* I love my brats.....:)

And yes for those who follow me thats 2 flat screens in a month as I just talked my significant into a 52" for the living room for the same reason. (I'm helping the economy. :)
  • twihard17
happy mothers day to all you twimoms!!!!! my mom loved the movie and shes listening to new moon on tape..she doesnt like the tape so she might just read the book instead oh and happy mothers day to stephenie meyer too!!! ;D
  • anonymous
I watched the movie only after it came out in DVD. I wanted to watch it last year but just did not get a chance to. After watching the movie a few times, I decided to but the series. I read all four books in a week! My husband thought I was going insane. I think I am a twimom... and damn proud of it! I don't care what others say or think (that's it's only for the young adut genre, etc, etc). For me, a good read is a good read. My kids (12, 7, and 5) roll their eyes whenever I mention about the movie. y seven-year old daughter Ysabella (whom I nickamed "Bella" after seeing the movie) likes to make fun of me. I have the soundtrack that I play over and over on my way to and from work. My five-year ol loves Muse's "Supermassive Black Hole" and so does our oldest. I even quiz her sometimes: what's the name of the lead girl and she'll answer "Bella". What's the name of her vampire bf and she'll say "Edward". And the title of the movie and she'll respond "Twilight". We're now into her memorizing the author's name and the director's name. :-)
  • LaPushbabyLaPush
Ya know......This couldn't be MORE TRUE! I have bonded SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much with my 10 and 9 year old!!!!!!!!!!! With my 10 year old it has opened doors for some wonderful conversations.....She is in the "Growing and Developing" course in her class and with some of the situations that come up throughout the Twilight Series...We have been able to talk about them and discuss "feelings" and circumstances that she will be facing in the coming years.............. Which is why I LOVE how Edward and Bella (for a lack of better terms)...wait until Marriage to express their FULL love for one another.....

Ya know: BOW-CHicka-bow-bow!!! LOL!!!! (which I don't say that to my daughter.....)
    Anyhow....that's my shpeal....... ;-)
  • kygal
Good job mom....always looking for a "teaching" moment. The "waiting for marriage" is an important part of the series. I'll admit I was a little impatient, but we've even talked about how it would have "cheapened" the series if Bella and Edward had hurried.
  • Nataniasmom
I am a Twi-mom, (age 29) and my mom has read and loves all four books.
My husband has also read and enjoyed all 4.

Thanks to all of you wishing us Happy Mothers Day, and Happy Moms Day to all the other mommas out there :)

like in danmark and finland we also in sweden, have a contest to come to italy and meet the characters and maybe have a SMALL role i the movie.
a girl (i don't remember who) won... it's to bad it wasn't me...
  • rhochradel
Well, I too am a Twilight mom (I am 31). I have read the series a couple of times and my 11 daughter is in the process of reading the books. My son is dying to read them too. We have the movie and have seen it a lot. My sister has read all of the books and my mom (she just turned 50) is reading the series for the 2nd time. It is funny how books can bring a family closer. =)
  • Haha my mom is 50 and she read twilight twice. My sister os 29 and she has read it about 10 times Im 17 and i read it over and over so much i lost count and my 11 yr niece has even read it all about 3 times.....really says something for the generations who enjoy the books.
  • MeganLovesTwilight
twilight has brought my family apart, i am the only one who likes it and my sisters and mother really hate it and they think i'm crazy. and no offense, but i think it's weird when moms like twilight. like aren't you a litttle old? its kind of a teeen thing. ;)
  • crookedsmile
When are you too old to like a good book? Never I hope. I still love the books I have always loved since I learnt to read though some I understand a bit better now. They range from classic children's literature to adult fiction. Thankfully having children does not change that.
  • Gemini
As the only Twilight obsessed person in my life (my gal pals have no taste) I can sympathise with you on your family thinking your crazy however I do have to disagree about it being weird that moms/older generation like Twilight. Unlike alot of teens (but obviously not all) we have experienced the highs of first love and the lows of heart-break and can therefore relate to the romance of this amazing series of books in some ways better than teenagers.

That said big luv to all the Twilighters out there.
  • MelissaIsATwilightLover
dude, your screwed. never go out in public, we fans will mob you :)
  • Actually....when Stephenie wrote the book it was never intended for the "young adult" genre. There is an article floating around somewhere. This is like saying adults are too old to watch old Disney movies. Adults are too old to watch the Narnia films, or Harry Potter, or even read their books.

As others have said Stephenie is a mother as well. This is her story after all. Some things have a unique way of transending this nagging little thing called age. It's only a number my friend. A great book is a great book.
  • suitejuju
Bravo. Well said. And I too remember reading this article.
My favorite stories are fantasy stories.
I wonder why some adults believe you must give up fantasy stories when you grow up.
  • IveMB
Stephenie Meyer is a Mom...we have to support her.. :)
  • ilovemasochist
Old? Um... do you know who wrote it?
    a mom case close
Teens are lucky she had to tone it down a notch for their viewing
  • IveMB
but we MOMS LOVE IT...I dont see anything weird about that.
  • Jess
My dad came with me to see twilight and he really liked it. he wants to see new moon when it comes out, but there is no way he would read the books
  • Chloe66
I am a twilight mom of 2 boys, my oldest has read the series and my youngers steals the movie from me and watches it atleast once a week. My mother won't read it but I handed the twilight book to my best friend before it came out on dvd and said you have to read this, 2 days later she had went out and bought the whole series....lol... her hubby gives me a hard time now about getting her hooked. ... her hubby loves the movie! My sister came to visit I made her watch the movie with me and now shes hooked too. When she came back this week all she wanted to do was talk about Twilight and watch the movie again.

    Happy Mothers Day Twilight Moms!
  • This I can testify to! My mother has read it, and it gave us something new to discuss. 2 Aunts, cousin, recently my newest Aunt (who has all of my books now *SOB* it's her initiation into the family). Basically all the women, minus Mema (aka Grandma), are hooked. Last night we went to dinner for my Mema's birthday....we were ALL quizzing Natalie (newest Aunt) on what she thought. We dominated the convo, and everyone else just knew to shush it.

    HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL!!!
  • MelissaIsATwilightLover
exactly what happened in my family. my aunt had them for a while. we talk about it all the time.
  • Daneh
my cousin hates twilight :( she's 14 (im 15) and i go to her one day "so do you still hate twilight?" and she goes "oh that movie with the dude who looks like an owl?" and
imagine me in slow motion giving her this "Look" thats like "you wish you wouldnt have said that" i gave her the bily blacks look of disapproval.

and i just went into this whoooooole rant about how he doesnt look like an owl haha... i wasnt abusive or anything, just making points about his talents etc etc.m muahaha! >:P she's been hypnotised by disney so i guess she just doesnt see how amazing these books/movies are!
  • i love rob
Twilight hasn't brought anyone in my family closer, but I think I've gotten a whole new family from this site!!!!

Thanks to all the awesome chicks I've met here.....you girls rock!!! I love that so many of you relate to me and feel the same way I do about the Twilight saga!!!!

And Will....thank you so much for doing an outstanding job on keeping us up to date with everything that is Twilght!!!!!

Happy Mothers Day to all the TwiMoms out there!!!
  • I agree, I have made so many friends with Twilight. For example at the midnight release in theaters for the movie, I was like 5th in line and these other girls in line and me got to talking (we had over 12 hours to bond) and now we are always txting each other and we are planning on going to the New Moon midnight premiere together. Also, there's people at school I have never talked to before and now we are the best of friends all because Twilight got us talking.
And with my website I have made friends through out the world, all because our one interest. I think it's really cool.
You could just be standing in a store looking at the books or somthing and someone just walks up and strikes up a converstation, we are all very nice and generous to each other. I think it's really sweet and cool. =)
  • I have also met so many amazing people - some of them moms, some of them not, but I've got a whole new family too.

Perhaps, though, we should wish a Happy Mother's Day to the mother that we owe everything too - Stephenie!

Happy Mother's Day Stephenie! It's it amazingly wonderful how one person can create such a rift in the very existence of humankind?
  • Nicnixs :) Squirrelshavelaws
    Hey Eryn :)

Totally agree :) We're sort of one big extended family now lol

You never know.....many of us might get a chance to meet up in the future :)

Stephenie's doing a great job for international relations :) LOL
  • Hi!

The world is just so much smaller now than it used to be, someone should start an international Twicon and each year have it hosted in a different country. Stephenie would be the official president/prime minister/queen. :-)
  • TeamJBTL
    Same here. :D
Me and my cousin are both really really close now<3
&& from this site also, I've made a couple of friends :D

Oh yesss! There are a lot of veiwers on here and I think Will should get an award<3

Happy Mothers Day to every TwiMom also in the world<33333333

wow.. that's so sweet.. i have to agree, twilight continuously brings families together and other relationships (friendship, etc) closer as well.. just like with me and my mother.. =) there's no week that passed without the two of us talking about it.. hehe.. and so with my best friend..

happy mothers' day to your moms and to all twilight moms out there!..
  • Skylines
Twilight really helped my relationship with Mum. After I moved out she wasn't too happy with some of my choices so we sort of lost touch, we both ended up reading Twilight and loving it and it gave us a level to connect on. Twilight brings people together, it's just that awesome.

Oh yeah, and happy mother's day to all the TwiMums here! (:
  • That is so sweet. I had the same case too with my mom. She's a fan of Twilight and I just couldn't think of any gift for her this Mother's Day. And luckily, I found this product from www.twilightmagnets.com. And I ordered some and she loved it since she loves to put notes on her board. Anyways, a happy mother's day to all moms in the world!
  • crookedsmile
Yes I know, my Eclipse has a fang mark in it and drool stains on the pages (or perhaps they are mine?). Well I tell my husband the baby did it anyway.
  • rachaelwsz
LOL. I see. Haha... You/Baby drooled on Eclipse? Let me guess... Chapter 20 compomise?... haha better watch out for your kid... ;)

well they better watch out, because once they have watched the movie i am GONNA make them addicted ahahah :'D
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
my Mom wanted to watch Twilight but I had my dvd shipped from the UK and without Polish subtitles she wouldn't understand a single thing. I feel really bad for her :(
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
Rob transcends all language barriers. : )
  • joanna86 aka Charlie's Angel
    true! :D
maybe I'll just show her all the scenes where he appears, muted ;)
  • Whitneee (aka CB's Angel) 3/09
hah! i wish my mom liked twilight :( instead, i am the ONLY one in my family who likes it...
  • viki xx
same but it could be a good thing XD
  • rachaelwsz
    Same here. :(
  • Jamie30
I know, my mom just rolls her eyes at me when I talk about the books - or about the movie and how cute Robert is. she is just like "Jamie Anne, he is too young", i just say "over 18 is legal".. LMAO. The only person I can talk to about it is my 11 year old nephew...he loves the book (he only read twilight) and the movie. However, I can only stand so much buildup so, i unleash my opinions on my husband, he knows by now to just sit and take it, it will stop soon enough! lol

    HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
  • OhEdward (mouthy since 04/09)
I've got you girls! I'll be your mom - your Twilight mom. XXOO
Keep on reading - I think you are great kids! I couldn't be happier with you if I'd raised you myself.
  • crookedsmile
Hmmm I don't think my husband would agree. Things got a bit neglected around here when I started reading the Twilight books (including him lol!). I tried reading them to my kids but they prefer Dr Seuss and the youngest just chews on them.

However, this morning my husband brought me a tray with breakfast and the laptop and said here's your daily dose of Rob, Happy Mothers Day, so things got off to a good start!
  • why would you read twilight to young children?

    ..lol?
  • viki xx
haha i agree, im the only one in my family that has read them but then i do
have one younger brother- but i like it cos its MY thing haha

i dont understand that young children would enjoy and understand most of it haha

i cant wait for new moon to come out!

    XD
  • crookedsmile
It's a children's book apparently Lol! No I was kidding, although it is true that the baby has tried to cut her teeth on my copy of Eclypse, much to my horror :)
  • rachaelwsz
Lol. Sorry to budge in but couldn't help LMAO...

Ur baby bit Eclipse! *horrified expression*
  • twilightx3
he thought he was a werewolf and wanted to fight the newborns ;) LMAO
  • hupkm
my mum saw the movie, and really liked it. She started reading twilight but found she couldnt finish it because she knows what happens. Every-so-often she'll just come in my room and be like...so....does Bella get turned ino a vampire? and i am just like YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK!!! and, well then i got impatient and stole my copy of twilight off her so i could read it...again...
  • hupkm
oh! and its brought me and sisters closer together. We were already REALLY close but now we can spend ages talking about BD, new moon movie, rpatzz etc.

too bad shes team jacob and i'm team edward...
  • Charli
My Mum was the one of the ones who got me to read Twilight, and she's Team Jacob too :)
  • My mum saw the movie, and thought it was sweet.

She hasn't read the books though.
  • Miranda<3
my mom hasnt read twilight yett but she watched the movie and loved it so shes gonna read the books. shes totally a team edward too.

    I love ya mom! <3
  • MB . Team Slade Brigade 3/09
wow. my mom's not into twilight, but she told me something really funny when i made her sit down and watch the movie. she said, "the guy who plays edward is a very...engaging actor. he's the best thing about this!" and that's my twilight quote from mama for this mother's day. ;)
  • Arg. My mom's not either. I even mailed her my copy of the books. (You mean send my books away? Are you crazy!? I know, I know, but drastic times call for drastic measures) She claimed she spent two hours 'trying to get into it' without success. I called her bluff cause there's no way you could read Twilight for two hours and not get into it. She's coming to visit next month and we've already established that the movie is the first priority - maybe even before hugging the grandkids... :-) LOL!
  • rachaelwsz
Lol. You're lucky. My mum didn't even want me to watch Twilight. Haha but i snuck out. :p
