It's all about the hands in this picture. Bella holding Jacob (slightly), Jacob standing in between Bella and Edward, Jacob with his fist clenched ready to fight, Edward with one hand slightly clenched....I also like where the characters are facing in the poster. Bella is looking towards something, most likely Edward, but she doesn't know where he is so she isn't looking in exactly the right direction. Then Edward is looking towards Bella, even though he isn't with her - Jacob stands between them. And Jacob's stance is very protective. Edward looks slightly haunted, and Bella....wow, I love her expression. It's a mix between determined and devastated.

couldn't disagree with you more!! sorry!! shouldn't the poster somewhat be able to tell the story.. especially to people who are unfamiliar with the books!? the whole point of new moon is that it reflects the darkest (hence "New Moon") point of Bella's life... i don't see that at all in this. hopefully the next one is better!! they really should check out some of the fan made ones!! i have really enjoyed some of them. Sorry.. just think it should reflect the "dark" more. :)

IMO it would be extremely hard (if not totally impossible) to show exactly what NM's about on one poster... This poster shows one aspect of the story - it concentrates on the somehow "dark & twisted" Bella-Edward-Jacob triangle. I think it's good that this aspect defines the 1st NM poster, cause (imo, again) it digs deeper, way beyond Bella's grief after Edward's departure. It wouldn't be 100% ok with me if I knew that there'll be no more posters, but we all know that there are more to come :)

Hmmmm i have conflicting thoughts about this poster, i love the facial expressions and stances, all right for their characters, although i think it is wrong how bella is touching jacobs arm, she shouldn't be touching either of them, plus if she was going to be in the back like that i think she should have been dirceting her gaze towards edward because even though in the story she has become very close with jacob all she really wants is edward, also edwards hair is too dark, plus i do think this represents eclipse more than newmoon, saying all this though, i have to admit i squealed when i saw this and i am so not a squealer, i quickly snapped out of it though once i realised, so glad no one was around ;) LOL!!!

hmmm imo Bella touching Jake, not Edward, symbolizes the fact that he's the one who's "tangible" in her life at the moment. Edward's a memory while Jacob's a reality.
And that's the thing I love about the poster - it can be interpreted in so many different ways! :)

I don't really think that Bella is holding on to Jacob. It looks like, based on the shadowing, that she is actually reaching PAST him. She needs Jacob in front of her, but the purpose is always so that she can get closer to Edward.

totally agree looks like he is blocking her way towards Edward and she wants to push him away. She looks like she is looking at something past him...we all know what she is looking for...

I agree with Dreamless Nights. I see the poster as if Edwards leaving Bella, not completely happy which is shown by clenched fists and his head turned back towards her. I think Jacob is acting as a protector and trying to stop Bella from getting to him and I think Bella is trying to get past Edward by grabbing his arm. I don;t really see the whole 'hand on arm' thing as an affectionate gesture. God I LOVE this poster. I hope there's some other where you can see RPattz's face better though xx

I love the symbolism of it all--i didn't pay that much attention in astronomy class, but I believe a new moon occurs when the moon cannot be seen from the earth. Edward's Bella's moon, but he's missing, so she can't see him. From another perspective, ignoring the possible astronomy connections, in twilight, Edward was her moon, whereas in new moon, Jacob took on that role. hmmmm...

hmm I didn't look at it that way but it makes perfect sense... like I said, that's the magic of this poster - everyone can see different things and every interpretation can be true at the same time :)

yes! exactly! there's so much symbolism in this that i just didn't get at first when i was trying to look at it the way you'd look at the twilight poster. the twilight poster has nothing on this one in terms of what each character is doing, their facial expressions, their stance, their hands, etc. she's touching jake because she *can*, jake is protective because he feels he has to be, and edward looks hurt and on the outside because, well...he is!

I think the fan-made posters were a little too well made.
This poster doesn't seem like it's as good as it could be, it's a bit repetitious (doesn't it look like they ripped off a fan-made poster).
I guess I just wanted something that was different from what we have been seeing before.
They should pay some of the people who created some of the really good fan-made posters to make the next one.

oOh!!!! i think it´s great because i think that jacob´s position represents that he is protecting bella for the damage edward has done to her and that he is unwilling to let him (edward) go back to her and at the same time bella is holding to jacob because she needs here to be alive in part because of the dilussions of edward´s vOice and in part because he has become a really necessary person for her....edward´s attitude shows that we wants to go back to bella passing through jake if necessary and that he is in pain but he´s trying to stay away....
i love it and i actually think that they they should add some really goOd fanmade picturs like the one in which jake´s face is half human half wolf or the one in which bella is hugging edward n the forest but edward is transparent which means his not there anymore....... i almost cried with this one i must confess........

I don't like it, Bella doesn't look like Bella, I don't think that the poster reflects NM neither Eclipse, in NM Jacob is not between them, he's just filling a void in Bella's life and I don't care if Team Jacob says otherwise; and in Eclipse maybe she will be in the middle and they pulling her arms LOL, that will probably work with the story, but for NM I hate it, well hate it's too strong, specially when I have such infatuation with everything twilight but I don't like Jacob between Edward and Bella for this movie, just my opinion.

I couldn't agree more with you! First and foremost, this poster is closer to representing Eclipse than New Moon. New Moon is about the dark period of Bella's life and her longing for Edward, always Edward. And I think it's wrong that it looks like Jacob is stopping her from going to Edward because he's never done that.

In the poster it seems kind of like Bella is afraid of Edward. And she's way too close to Jacob, it seems too romantic. I get the wrong idea here. I think this poster could be improved significantly if her hand wasn't resting on Jacob's arm, but actually reaching out a little towards Edward.

i aqree that this does look like a Eclipse poster rather than an New Moon one but i think this poster was meant to capturee the General idea of Twiliqht w/ out qivinq to much of the plot away to new comers.
If new comers take in the subtle hints of it, that Nomenstars so amazinqly pointed out, they would be able to tell thats theres qonna some kind of conflict between Edward and Jacob but they wouldn't know exactly whats qoinq on[which is probably the point of this poster]. The more personal posters will probably show more of Bellas Devastation =)

well if jacob is in the middle, its pretty much a given and everyone will know there's gonna be some sort of love triangle.

Shouldnt bella be the center rather than Jacob for that whole love triangle premise. (1) she is the central role in the books, being we read through her point of view. (2) Edward and Jacob are battling for her affection {whether Edward is present or not, he still holds feelings over her}. So Shouldnt she be like the rope in a tug of war match being pulled in both directions. Following your logic of the love triangle, it would appear Edward and Jacob get some love actin together.

I completely agree. It's a great poster, and an impressive first poster.

I immediately loved--LOVED--the way Jacob is between them, with Edward glancing at Bella, looking haunted all the while. Jacob is in a protective stance, looking hatefully backward in Edward's direction as he stands between "the dumper" and "the dumpee." It is very significant that they are showing a PERSON between the same fated lovers from the Twilight posters. And this person doesn't look happy that Edward has any place there by them. Oooo, drama, we love it so! <3

The Twilight posters, as gorgeous as they were, didn't hold much (if any) depth to them. They were just pretty faces of a benevolent-looking vampire and a normal girl who obviously loves him. This New Moon poster by itself tells an ENTIRELY new story and totally blows the Twilight posters away. There is no perfect happy romance here. Edward no longer looks benevolent or sure of himself... he looks excrutiatingly *un*sure. And Bella does not look like the same, satisfied girl in love. She looks lost & incomplete now... grasping onto Jacob when there is no one else. And her expression is the epitome of anti-recovering zombie girl who hears her beloved's voice whispering words of caution. She's not looking at Edward in the poster because Edward is GONE. She's looking at us, the readers, the audience, the only people (including the two boys she loves) who know the full extent of what goes on in her head and her heart.

The studio could have done something simple and lame with absolutely no meaning or significance--just three pretty faces hovering over a pretty background. But no. They put thought into this and I love that they did. Some people are never satisfied, and that's their loss.

I've seen some amazing fanposters, but this poster is also very much all kinds of fabulous and does what every good movie poster should do--catches your attention and sparks questions so you will want to see the film.

I think the way Bella is holding Jacob is supposed to mean that she is holding on to him for support because he is her light in her dark time. Jacob is glancing back at Edward partly in anger for hurting Bella, partly for just being a vampire and partly to make sure he doesn't come back or to fight him if he does. I agree with all that above but I also think it reminds me of eclipse a little. Also I think it would look strange to have a depressed-looking Bella on the movie poster (don't want to give too much away) Over all i pretty much liked it! I wounder when the next one will come out...

I can see why people would think this looks more like an Eclipse poster, except for one slight but significant difference: if it was for Eclipse, Edward should be in the middle (or Bella even). Not Jacob.
All in all it's an okay poster and nice to finally see an "official" one, I don't think Edward should have been featured so prominently but I know that the studio will be "motivated" to keep him in the limelight due to RPatz popularity amongst the crowd that will spend the most money on this stuff.

I agree. I didn't think this would fit for Eclispe. Edward and Bella are together in Eclispe. I think the poster fits NM. Jacob gets in the middle of Bella and Edwards relationship. I didn't think RP should be in the front either, it should be KS or TL. I still love the poster. Cannot wait for the sneak peek at the MTV movie awards, and especially the movie itself.

I think they could have done something better. This book is more about Bella and Jacob's developing friendship (yes I say friendship b/c even though she finally admits she loves him, it's not until book three, AND everyone knows she'll always be Edward's, even after he left her, she was still his.) the love triangle happens more in Eclipse-MY FAV out of all four-can't wait for the 5th!!

I dont understand why Ed had to look angry. He doesnt look sad or devadstated he looks like he is ready to attact. Bella looks to me like she wants to push Jack away because he is blocking her going to Edward. She doesnt look sad either. This is not Jack from nm. Jack is funny and outgoing and smiling and a wolf...but these are just for us being twilight pro...over all the poster is ok

Your break down is perfect. It is all about the hands. Jacob clenching his hands to control morphing. Bella holding Jacob lightly and unsure.

I love how Edward looks torn. Jacob looks protective and fierce. And Bella does looks just like you said, "a mix between determined and devastated".

You hit the nail on the head, this is just like a painting there are so many views. Like Edward is still there haunting her, Jacob is in not so much an obstacal but he is trying to protect her, from what is coming.

LOL this poster and comment is ridiculous. It looks like a good picture, yes. But for the first promo picture for New moon, um no. It doesn't capture the essence of New Moon at all.

Please spare us with the over analyzed assumptions on what the poster portrays. It was a feeble attempt. Lets just just hope this isn't a prelude of what is to come.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge fan of this series. I'm just not willing to sell out just because it has Robert Pattinson front and center. I think half the fan made posters have been a million times better. I am just sick and tired of the teenie bopper fans selling out and rolling over to the mediocre attempts by the studio. If a teenage girl can make an amazing poster from home, you better believe I'm setting the bar high for the studio heads that raked in close to half a billion dollars for twilight.

I think it's all about the colors. Bella's jacket in the Twilight poster was black which matched the shades of gray, black and white and connected her to the Cullens and the vampires.

This poster is sepia and brown toned. More earthy colors. The brown jacket Bella is wearing shows how in New Moon she starts to relate more to the Wolves because of Edward's absence.

I do like your explanation of the hands!! That's a super unique way to look at it and I completely agree. The Twilight saga holds a lot of symbolism so naturally the movie posters are going to be created around the symbolism.

I honestly think the art director and creator of the Twilight Saga posters is a genius. I've NEVER seen ANY poster that can tell the story and reveal the plot but at the same time keep it hidden and leave viewers captivated.

cool, i like this poster, but i hope there is another one on it's way. it doesnt show how deep the situation realy is. having said that i think the way the characters are set is fabulous, thought provoking, like there is someting big we dont know. and really random note, stare at bella's hand, is it m or does it look like its moving lol

i think this poster is exactly the way i thoguht it would, probably better. The way Edward, Jacob, and Bella are position is perfection. I especially love the mood the posters gives off. The golds and browns relfcting in the background give a whole different emotion compared to Twilight. Just looking at it reminds me of the way I felt when I read the books. It gave me chills going along my spine imagining what Bella must be feeling. With Jacob there it helps her avoid the pain that Edward caused her to feel. I can't wait to experience New Moon in theaters. One thing I am sure about is that I'm going to cry this Twilight Saga. See everyone at the premiere!

I agree, but I think it should be flipped around. Bella in front then jake and last edward. if you have read the books you'd know that edward is in about five little chapters total. this book is about JACOB and bella, not edward. but the looks and posture of jake, ed, and bella are fantastic!

In new moon, jacob, edward, and Bella constantly fight. you can see how Bella loves Edward but doesnt want to leave Jacobs side either. she doesnt want them to fight so she seems to be holding jocob back (just a litle bit). sorry if this is all in eclipse! i read the books so many times that it is now all ONE story to me! :)

Am I the only one who thinks that half of these characters they have for New Moon is totally bougous! I mean how could they ruin how you pictured the series more thoroughly?! The characters should be gorgeous, handsome, out of this world beautiful. but half of them aren't!! This poster is horrible. I don't think it's telling of the second book at all. Maybe this would have been more appropriate for Eclipse. I would have liked to have seen something more dramatic--like Bella jumping off the cliff and Edward sort of muted in the background. Something to signify her pain and heartbreak. I'm extremely disappointed.

Wow....Edward the character sure looks a lot more like Rob the actor than in the first film....normally I would have a problem with that for continuity reasons, but I'm throwing that out the window 'cause I'd rather look at the real Rob over "Edward" any day.....Taylor looks good as Jacob and Bella....yeah she's not screaming distraught to me...more like she just got a makeover...

Finally someone else who noticed Bella's new look! I agree she looks more like she just got a makeover. I actually think they may have prettied her up too much. The girl just got dumped by the love of her life and has been catatonic for months, she's not supposed to look better than we've ever seen her before. I've already been worrying lately about when they start filming Breaking Dawn how they will make Kristen "look like a supermodel" as described in the book after she transforms into supermodel vampire Bella. Don't get me wrong, Kristen is obviously beautiful, but she is more plain girl average beautiful like human Bella, and there is a big difference between average girl beautiful and "supermodel" beautiful. Like their height among many other things. The Bella in this poster is almost unrecognizable compared with the Bella we saw in Twilight and not in the way I expected. She is supposed to look rough like she has been through hell not like she's been on that show extreme makeover. If they start making her prettier with each film by the time her transformation in Breaking Dawn rolls around it won't seem like there was enough of a change of appearance between human Bella and vamp Bella.

Meh. I don't know if I like it or not. I think Bella looks WAY too done up. She just looks like she has too much make-up on... I like how Edward looks very eerie, as they said this movie will be "more haunting" with Edward's apparitions and whatnot. I LOVE how Jacob is protective of Bella guarding her with his fist clenched and whatnot. I'm jsut not happy with Bella. She looks more bored than depressed/confused.... If Bella would've been looking towards Edward, but not directly at him... it would've been a little cooler... And maybe if they had faded Edward out a little...

I hate how Jacob is extremely protective... I thought he was the more laid back, careless, happy Jake. Edward is the protective one.
Rob looks bored too, not agonized and tormented enough like Edward should be, but he looks the best in the picture so I'm not complaining.

Overall this doesn't fit New Moon at all, it is more like an Eclipse poster. But then if it was Eclipse it should be Rob in Taylor's place being protective over Bella and her holding on to him and Jacob looking at them the way Rob is looking.

Still, being that we haven't got much in the way of news recently, I can say that I'm not complaining too much here, although I am still awaiting that shirtless Jacob poster...
Overall, I just want the film to come along. Preferably sooner than later.

Although I respect your opinion I'm afraid I have to disagree with you for the following reasons:

!. Bella is kind of leaning on to Jacob for support (like she does in the book) but her hand also looks like she is ready to push Jacob aside for Edward (which she does in the book)
2. Emotionless is actually perfect for New Moon - she compares herself to a Zombie and Charlie tells her she is lifeless.....she's just going through the motions of life
3. As a human (i.e long-haired) Jacob was laid back and carefree but once he has changed (short-hair) he becomes much harder and angrier especially towards the vampires
4. Edward has turned his back on Bella (allowing Jacob to come become between them) but he can't stop himself looking back as he is still deeply in love with her.

i don't think i can agree with you more that just what i thought mostly the part about jacob look angery he hates edward

I LOVE I T! Rob is in front & looking very Edward Cullen. He's too HOT for words. He and Bella are seperated indicating strife. Jacob is all flexed & all protective of Bella. Bella looks forlorn & vacant. You see that Jacob is her support while Edward is unreachable. I think the poster is subtle yet telling. All the actors look amazing. The darkness, trees, mist all add to the tone & feel. Thank you, thank you for this wonderful pic; it was worth the wait. Next up: NM clip @ MTV Awards!

I won't say I don't like it but I don't think it captures the essence of NM very well. When I first had a look at it, I felt like non spoiled people would get from this image that with Bella in Jacob's arms they're an item, she looks like she's cheating with Jacob on Edward who looks at her both angry and sad, and Jacob is like either protecting her from Edward or ready to fight him to keep him from winning the girl back. Jacob's like mad with his fist closed. It's like Bella's replacing Edward with Jacob, instead of being devastated, leaning on Jacob for moral support and always having Edward in her head, keeping loving him.

Now if you've already read the books, you might get better that Bella longing for her, Jacob protecting her from what hurt her and what he thinks will hurt her (though I don't think it was that selfless), and Bella looking for Edward hoping to see him. But that's not what you first get when you watch this poster. And imo it should give the audience a more real idea of what's happening in NM without saying too much.

Now, Robert looks better in this poster than in Twilight's, more natural looking though still dangerous vampire looking. Taylor's eyes look weird, all I can see is white and Kristen looks like she's more interested by looking good and innocent on the photo... And the background is much too simple to my taste.

Oh and everytime I see 11.20.09, I'm glad it'll be 11.18.09 here, 2 days sooner is a great gift to me lol

Eh, I think Edward is too prominent in the poster...this book wasn't really about him. I Like that Jacob is in between Bella and Edward, like the fist thing, I just would have rather seen Edward more in the background or even misty, like a presence but not really there.

Edward's expression is on the verge of something...powerful? is it going to be a frown of anger or determination--is he prepared to fight for Bella now as he's looking at her hand on Jacob, has he already lost her? Will his face become a mask of resignation? This is beautiful...Edward and Bella are standing so close to each other, but so far away now that Jake is firmly forever in between them. And Bella isn't looking at either of them...that's fascinating to me why they did that...like she's not committing to either yet, because she belongs to both now. Even if Edward isn't there physically for her, this poster shows how much importance he will always have....geez i keep staring at this--definitely need to find this in larger for my wall to embarrass my teen sons. yeah. don't even dare me.

i think they could have done something more with Edward more of a presence and less BAM and have Jacob in some more light since he is her "personal sun" i totally get the poster and it will prob. make more sense after we all see the movie, but I'm not totally blown away or impressed - more could have been done -- I think we were all expecting some intense symbolism about the book - but remember, it is advertising so it is a matter of pushing tickets, and here they are using their key characters/actors to do so. If the poster was more symbolic those of us that are obsessed would love it, but it wouldn't really do well to draw in the crowd - a lot of movie posters are like that, though.

Or the silence of the lambs poster? they are tooo symbolic and not don't fill in the audience about anything --however those are for adults, and this is aimed at teens (although the audience is really larger than that, it is the target) and their audience would respond better to heart-throbs. I just think we're all freaking out about the jumping off the cliff scene when though it is a big deal it is not the end all be all of the book, and i doubt they would promote that part on a movie aimed at teens with the risks of suicide and depression. I would like it to have some more symbolism, like I said, however, I understand why it is not there. Think of the twilight posters, just two people - no apple, no lambs, just edward and bella

Jake is a substitute, nothing more. Stephenie just wanted to spice it up and add conflict. In her original version, whatever it's called, Jacob isn't important at all.

True Jacob was not intended to be a main character but, guess what, he is. Jacob IS important to the Saga we have now. Had it not been for Stephenie we wouldn't have the wolf pack either. I am grateful for Jacob. For me, personally, had Jacob not become a key character I would have put the book down easily.

In agreement with you TeamWolfPack, I would of put it down too and never would have even bought Eclipse and BD.

And so would of many more as proven, unscientifically, but wth, it's still a poll. The one done by this site a while back. At first Edward had a significant lead and now as more people have joined this site and grown to appreciate taylor as Jacob. Jacob and Edward are head to head, both with 42% of the votes.

I mean without Jacob in NM, what would the book be about? Bella sulking in 500+ pages of the book. It wouldn't even be that long because she would of been dead either by Laurent or by drowning. Thanks to Jacob, Edward has Bella.

For anyone who has read other books other than twilight, the greatest books have always had a triangle of sorts that gives you the page turning appeal. And That's what made the Twilight series great; Edward, Bella, Jacob, and all the other most significant characters too! Not one is less significant than another!

So right scarlettmoon, TWP, Destined, and every open minded reader.

Like you said, all the other characters are most definitely ALL, all Significant and Important too.
Each with their backround past and present way of life that we each found a way to relate to one way or another to one or another of the characters, and it adds to the foundation of the books and helps carry the story!

Not one is less significant than the next. That is just one reason everyone plays along with the Team this and team that. The books are much more than Edward and Bella..they're books not 2 bella/edward trading cards.

Uh, if you have a book with no conflict, it's not going to be a very good book. Hence the reason Steph probably changed it and made Jake important. We wouldn't have the books we're obsessed with if it weren't for Jake being in them. I still don't know why anyone gets huffy over her falling for Jake, too... she's human, and he's a good person and a good friend. Who wouldn't? It's not like he ruined her and Edward's relationship.. and if Bella still cares for Jake at the end and even *Edward* cares for Jake at the end, why shouldn't the readers care about him, too?

wow, you are so right! i completely agree... jacob became a part of bella and she did fall in love with him in new moon... and i hope people start to see jacob in a new light... even SM said she told people to read new moon twice just so they can understand and like jake a lot better...

A substitute? Nothing more? No way. She loves Jacob. Re-read the Fire and Ice chapter of Eclipse. If he was nothing more than a substitute I assure you the novels wouldn't have been half as good as they were. Jacob is her best friend, her sun, the man who would have been naturally meant for her had the vamps not come back to town. If he was nothing more than that - then the story would have finished after New Moon.

Thank you suitejuju! My sentiments exactly. I'm starting to think many people really did not thoroughly read and comprehend characters that was not Bella and Edward at all. And it is sad being that mostly all the other characters are far more interesting and fun than those two. Saying Jake is a substitute is like saying New Moon isn't important to the saga. Every character and book makes this whole thing what it is. And if Jake was not important, his character would have been much smaller like a Mike, Quil, and Embry role. Besides Bella and Edward, he is the other main character. To not see that is quite pathetic and if you just don't want to recognize it well that sounds like a personal problem because it is what it is.

Indeed... so many other good characters are overlooked in favor of Bella and/or Edward. It's a crime!! I think people are missing out if they don't try to understand or relate to the other characters. I like Bella and Edward very much but neither is in my Top 5 favorite characters (which are Jacob, Carlisle, Leah, Renesmee, Seth.) I think Jacob is extremely deep for a 16-year old kid and is much more interesting to me. The Twilight saga wouldn't be anything that it is without Jake--he adds SO MUCH good to the story!!

People who dislike him on a personal level really have problems, I'm afraid O_o;

Not Team Jacob but I have enough sense to know that he is a very prominent character. He is the best portrayed in this poster. Bella holding onto him is right in my opinion because it shows that he has been her rock through the whole ordeal. I just think Bella needs to be looking at Edward, because it's him she really wants.

Looks like a pretty good balance all things considering--its a triangle emotionally, no one is left out & the warring emotions are all on display--seems like a decent fit.

Agreed. Honestly, I'm not thrilled w/her portrayal in the first place. She's just another grossly overrated actress (& no, I'm not a Kstew hater). She had nothing to do w/the writing of the book nor creation of the characters, her opinion holds no relevance let alone bearing of 'truth'.

Have you guys seen any interviews about Jacob with Stephenie? She doesn't like it when people hate him and want him to die, but she knows the Edward is the only person for Bella. Jacob IS a stand in like CullensForLife said.

he's not a stand in. he helps the plot move further. if it werent for him, the vamps and wolves wouldnt be so united.

Stephenie said that she grew to love Jacob so much when she wrote Twilight that she wanted him to become a major character in her sequel(s). He seemed so "real" to her and to her editors too. Just because he started out a minor character in Twilight doesn't undermine his importance.

Steph wanted readers to understand that his motives in Eclipse were driven only by true love for Bella and the hopes that he could win her heart. How can anyone who has read these books call Jacob a stand-in? It's preposterous. He is a lot of things in these books (friend, protector, hero, instigator, catalyst, etc) and it doesn't matter that he and Bella aren't meant to be---his love for her was sincere and it is because of him that Bella's still alive to be with Edward (well, if you call being a vampire alive ^_~).

Edward has never hated Jacob, so I don't see why any readers should. He's a smart, good kid!

i actually think kristen is underrated although when i first saw twilight her acting wasnt so good to me but it grew on me. but i think she understands bella fully, especially now.

Jacob is just Bella's safe harbor, she counts on him to make her happy when she is in the debts of despair, almost about to give in and be internally dead for the rest of her life. New Moon isn't about "Jacob/Bella"
they weren't even more than friends in New Moon, they only went further in Eclipse people. New Moon was all about Jacob being a shoulder to cry on for Bella to get over Edward but she couldn't and she USED him to hear Edward, she only wanted Jacob around because he helped her feel reckless and that led up to her hearing Edward. New Moon is Romeo and Juliet for Edward and Bella, Jacob was just the friend who slighty lifted up her hopes. New Moon wasn't about Bella getting over Edward and finding a new mythical creature to hang out with and be with... because she never did get over Edward, the whole story is practically Edward/Bella even though they aren't in each other's presence, he was always on her mind and she used Jacob. She was trying throughout New Moon not to send him missed signals but Jacob is just obnoxious and falls for anything.

Did you MISS the part when she referred to him as her sun? That she cried over him when she thought he joined Sam's "cult?" How concerned she was for his safety? How she agonized over hurting him because she continued to be in love with Edward? How she reached out to him at the end as Edward tried to block her from going to him? How she wouldn't be happy (WHILE WITH EDWARD) until she saw him smile again?

Good Lord. It's almost a waste of time to type this.. some people just don't get it. ::sigh::

THAT was because she was pregnant. It says that she was so happy to see him because Nessie was inside her. And for when she's supposedly happy to see him before that, it's because they ARE friends. So what? He was just there for her when Edward lovingly left because he thought his family and himself was safe for her. So she was friends with Jacob. She didn't want to hurt him.

BTW, that shows true love when you put your own personal feelings aside for the other person's best interest. Edward thought he was protecting her. Jacob didn't care how dangerous he was. He could explode easily and like kill her. We all remember Emily yes?

I'm not in the mood to argue, so I'll keep it short. I AM going to point out that what I said above, all the things she said and did, were referencing New Moon NOT Breaking Dawn.

My point wasn't that she was in love with Jacob in New Moon.. you were saying she strictly used him. Yes, I would agree at first she did but she obviously came to care about him if she was upset about him being hurt (and everything else I referenced), so it became MORE than just "using" him.

As far as the last paragraph.. both of them put her in danger plain and simple. Edward with trying to stay away and being unsuccessful.. and struggling not to kill her. Jacob by becoming a werewolf and being rather volatile. I would very much disagree that Jacob "didn't care".. he was more reckless, yes, but it was obvious how much he contained anger so as not to hurt her.

No. It didn't matter what her intentions towards Jacob were *going* to be, it only mattered what those intentions became. Jacob was winning her over in spite of herself and *THAT* is what she didn't expect or fully understand. It is a testament to Jacob's character because only he could accomplish this.

Please hear me out, because I am not really on either team. In fact I guess you could say I'm on both teams because I think they are both good for Bella in different ways. I do, however, have lots of proof straight from the horse's mouth that you are very wrong in assuming there is no Jacob/Bella love in New Moon.

Stephenie Meyer encourages readers to read New Moon twice, to see what they might have missed in Jacob and Bella's relationship--and to see WHY and WHEN exactly Bella's feeling evolve. Stephenie herself said Bella fell in love with Jacob in New Moon, during the ONLY period in her life that she could ever fall in love with anyone else WHILE still in love with Edward. Jacob was her sun in her darkest hour. Would she have ever gotten so close to Jacob if Edward never left her side? Of course not. But Edward DID leave and Jacob was there to save her in more ways than one. By the time Edward returned the damage was done. It works the other way as well, though. If there was never an Edward then Jacob would be her soulmate because it was SO easy for her to be in Jacob's company... even in Twilight she mentions this. Falling in love with Jake would have been effortless in any other circumstance. But in this life there is an Edward... in this life they are meant to be.

Stephenie also says there are different ways to fall in love. Bella had only fallen in love once before--with Edward, and that romance was the dramatic, whisk-her-off-her-feet type of falling in love. The way she fell in love with Jacob was very different...much more subtle... more normal, sane, and healthy. So just because Bella may not have willingly recognized her feelings as such until Eclipse doesn't detract from the truth of when those feelings first formed.

Jacob's goal was to save her life--to show her she has options. He has a right to try to win her heart away from Edward since he is fighting for her life and her humanity... and because she DOES love him, too. Many Team Edward people don't understand this, they don't think Jacob is fighting fair. But he is. Jacob fell in love with Bella when he had every right to do so. We can't expect this love to disappear the minute Edward shows back up. He's going to fight for the love he earned, he's going to fight for Bella's life. That's why he freaks out at their wedding, that's why he hates the fetus, that's why he hates Edward for putting Bella in danger. It doesn't really matter if you like Jacob or not... he's not obnoxious. His primary concern and love for Bella is every bit as sincere as Edward's love for her ever was. If you were in Jacob's shoes you would be singing a very different tune.

Let me also add the first time I read New Moon I could SEE that she was obviously falling in love with Jacob (in spite of herself!!) but she was confused because two forces were working there... a part of her would always love Edward and mourn for him, and another part of her wanted to be happy with Jacob and be a whole person again.

"Be happy" Edward's voice said. This is the turning point.

She stiffens when she hears this because her hallucinations were, until this point, warning her... yelling at her... trying to turn her away from reckless stupidity. But not now. Now she is being encouraged to let her heart be open, to move on with her life. Edward's voice was never Edward at all... her heart belonged to Edward and so of course when her heart spoke to her it was in his voice. Although her heart was still in love with her "fickle Romeo"... little by little her heart wants to heal... it wants to be shared with Jacob. SHE *SAYS* THIS!!

I'm not saying Edward isn't her soulmate. But love is a complicated thing and it's not a matter of who she was meant for... it's a matter of falling in love with two different boys in two different ways at two different times but committing to the one (and the lifestyle) she truly wanted. This is something Stephenie says on her website, even. In the end, true love is not about a lack of options.

Team Edward 4 Life.

Apparently people were so busy skipping ahead, looking for Edward's return that they missed much of the book! I'll highlight some moments for those that missed them (cliff notes?):

1) Jacob wasn't needed for Bella to do dangerous things--i.e. cliff dive or wander off into the woods & stumble into Laurent--she may have needed him for the bikes, but beyond that, why stay?
2) Fact check; Edward's FAILURES led to Bella having an emotional breakdown! Had Jacob not been there she would've died via Laurent, Victoria, cliff diving, etc. Then, your precious Edward would've killed himself because of his FAILURE (& millions of emo tweens would slit their wrists because of it lol?). Do not bring this "Failcob" bs, unless you plan on including "Failward" in the equation. They both are subject to their failures as well as their accomplishments & all things considering, every character in the Saga is pertinent to the story. W/out Jacob, there wouldn't be a Bella after NM. The End! Just like w/out Bella & Edward, there wouldn't be a Nessie, etc.
4) Lastly in regard to that weak "that shows true love..." statement lol; let's recall how Jacob sacrificed for Bella. Nursing her back to emotional health regardless of what his own emotional well being would suffer (yes, he knew & did it willingly, he even said so). Between NM & BD, there were plenty of examples, especially once Edward returned. I seem to recall a few moments when Edward himself, turned to Jacob in regard to Bella. Did Jacob refuse him despite hating him? No. He risked suffering the loss of his entire pack/family to protect Bella--knowing how much he didn't want her to have that child (because it was killing her), how much he didn't want her to die, how much he didn't want her subjected to the vamps & their thirst--he did it all anyway. Yeah, suffering for the sake of the one you love, indeed. Not bad for a 16 year old compared to someone that's lived 100+ years & didn't even know his true love well enough to -anticipate- how she would break when he left. Or even think to clean up his "mess" (Victoria/Laurent).

Being a Twilight fan isn't about warring "Teams". Its about loving the story & respecting it. This includes the characters & the events, even the ones you dislike, because it all combines to make possible the story you love.

Okay, just a couple responses:

1. Bella wouldn't have cliff dived AT ALL if Jacob wouldn't have been there. She only knew about it because of Jacob.
2. I don't want to even get in with... you really should check your "facts"
4. What ever happened to 3 by the way? Anyway, Jacob only did those things because he wanted Bella. But was Jacob kind AT ALL to Edward? Nope, Edward was trying to be nice and mature but there Jacob goes with his "bloodsuckers" and "leeches" comments. He always thought Edward was out to get him and he was waiting to KILL HIM remember? He was never mature and always wanted to kill the Cullens. He was just pining for Bella the whole time.

Seriously, the thing I couldn't stand about him is when he was rude to the Cullens. Calling them all those names and then complaining about the smell. Yes Rosalie did that to, but really not as much. Oh and you say how we shouldn't have teams... and yet you seem to. I don't get it, you really seem like you hate Edward to me.

Sleep deprivation does funny things like making numbers dissapear. 3 was deleted during editing & I didn't care enough to go back afterwards to make another change, too tired lol!

Bella may not have "cliff dived" specifically, but considering her state of mind, do you really think she would've just sat at home & done nothing to put herself in harms way? Cliff diving is just another example of this & a convenient one for SM since Jacob could be there to diffuse the situation.

I don't hate Edward, never did--I was Team Edward until Eclipse, then I went Switzerland, & finally settled as being a member of the Pack later, but I don't hate any of the characters (if I did it would probably be Bella hah!). I actually rather like that SM wrote some flaws into Edward. He seems much more "human" to me as a result.

In New Moon Edward drove me just as crazy as Jacob, w/his attitude. I don't see either he, nor Jacob as acting mature (lets recall that Jacob was 16, he's not supposed to be mature, but thats beyond the point); they discriminated against each other unjustly (which was obnoxious considering that they were similar in quite a few ways, even in their differences). But Edward acted out of jealousy as well & certainly wasn't exempt from having an attitude in regard to Jacob. I was reading & getting so annoyed w/them because I knew that if they'd look past the 'wolf/vamp equation, they'd get along very well! Frustrating! Edward complained about Jacob's smell as well & even Bella was irritated over both of their attitudes. My point is, neither of them acted rationally because of their mutual love for Bella. Neither of them did less than the other in demonstrating that, they just did so in different ways...It's actually a very even playing field but it drives me nuts that people often point the finger at one w/out seeing what the other did as well.

Almost seems like some "want" to be haters, when there's no reason to--they both love her & they were both being jerks cause they were jealous guys--period. Sadly, thats when the Team mentality comes into play & automatically makes (some) people irrational, when both sides are at fault since they're responsible for how they acted as well as how they appeared to the other.

I don't think there should be no Teams, never said that. I dislike that the Teams get so damned crazy all the time! You even hear about fans heckling the actors because they're on the opposing Team. Its absurd, especially when you consider that both sides combine to form one Team more or less, in the end. But I'm also not 13 so I'll probably never understand that...

Book Jake just bugged me when he wouldn't leave Bella alone in Eclipse but I hope I like Movie Jake more. I'm so tired of hating Jacob, I actually kind of liked him in Breaking Dawn. Just hated him in Eclipse for pushing himself on Bella. I appreciated him in New Moon to help Bella out. I REALLY LOVE Seth a lot. He's a werewolf and yet he can be like best friends with Edward.

It bugged me when Jacob and Edward couldn't just chill together. I totally agree that they could have been friends!! Seth and Edward were!!! They weren't THAT different, their personalities could totally be cool together. Stupid prejudice, I swear. That what I didn't like about the wolf pack, they though all vampires were the same! I hated Sam way more then Jacob a lot of the time.

Jacob was just a little to immature for me, he's 16, not 10. I swear he was going to start yelling about cooties or something. See!? Here I go again! But I think if Edward acted to old it would be weird. The whole thing is that he doesn't act like he is, he acts like a very mature 20 year old (actually 17, but still).

well you are right about the rudeness but actually they had a right to be rude towards the cullens(now im not saying i hate the cullens) but if it hadnt been for the cullens existance then they wouldnt be transformed into wolves in the first place. the wolves are just bitter because they hate what they've become and would you rather bella just waste away to nothing????? jacob saved her after edward left her broken......jacob was only trying save her and he ended up falling in love with her. . . .

Ok- 'nice' & 'mature'?
Uh- no- "dog" & "mongrel" aren't the nicest things to say either - & I said it before & I'll say it again- the characters help the development of the other characters; Dr Cullen wasn't badly thought of by Jacob, after a while, as he got to interact with him more than the others.
He was taught vampires were the enemy- it was a fundamental of his people's history & it was always with him- but he did the unthinkable, in walking away from them (& Seth did, too [& became a friend to the Cullens])- so the whole 'always wanted to kill the Cullens' is innaccurate.
He also showed a lot of maturity through the series- there were moments where they were both juvenile- Jacob & Edward's ages didn't have anything to do with it- there were times when they both stuffed up- & Bella, too.
And as for Rosalie not complaining as much- how many chapters did you skip?

i agree- as much as i love the character of Jacob- people need to be more evenhanded in their viewing of the story- the whole anti-Jacob thing's kind of stupid - so yeah, all the characters are essential to the story- each character leads to character development of the others.

lol. I think the anti-Jacob thing is stupid too. I remember when I used to hate Jacob. I think I can recall the reasons.
1. He interrupted Edward's and Bella's love thing. Later I found out they was a stupid thought. Jacob had every right to at least try to date Bella. Edward dumped her (for good reasons) and she was hurt. Jacob helped her out of hard times.
2. Jacob seemed like a jerk. Later I found out that was normal 16 year old behavior. He wants something and he's going to work as hard as he can to get. I understand boys a little more, and I now find nothing wrong with Jacob tiring to get Bella.
3. He was a werewolf. lol, I don't know why I thought werewolfs were just disgusting. Now look back on it, and werewolf are just as cool as vampires. :)
4. He pushed himself on Bella, forcing to kiss her. I still hate him for that. But I think I can blame it on Bella more than Jacob. If she just made it clearer that she was Edward's girl and there was no way she would leave Edward for him, he wouldn't think she would like.
5. He called Edward a vampire slur. By that I mean "bloodsucker" 'leech" "parasite", and all that good stuff. I LOVE vampires, so calling them that really pisses me off. I am a little protective of Edward for some unknown reason. I think it's because I understand him, and I "feel" him a lot. It's like I know how he feels when he's sad. I cried in New Moon and Braking Dawn. He was so sad in both of them, I thinks that's way I cried. lol awww :)
6. I was jealous. I wanted Edward to have as much buffness as Jacob. . . . . . . I learned to get over it. lol
7. Edward is the better choice . . . . . no ifs ands or buts about it. They fit together a lot better than she and Jacob would . . . .

Those were the reasons I hated jacob. Note: I love him now. He's awesome! lol. GO JACOB lol :)

Ok, here we are again, the Edward-show episode 265… why is Edward in the front? There’s way too much emphasis on him, considering the fact he’s HARDLY even there in New Moon. It’s like: We’re proud to present… EDWARD! TA-DA!... oh, and by the way, there are some other characters, too, but… never mind. This is Bella’s story, told from Bella’s perspective, SHE should be in the front.
And I also don’t like Edward towering over Jake. I know Taylor’s not that tall, but hello? Welcome to the 21st century, there are ways to fix that. That’s not how it’s supposed to be.
I like that they gave the poster the warm werewolf color theme, in contrast to the cool Twilight posters. Still, Edward’s wearing his usual cool colored grey shirt.
I love the look on Jacob’s face, it represents his mood about the whole Cullen-business and his bitterness after the transformation quite well, although his haircut and entire attitude kind of gives away the second part of New Moon. And I like that Kristen’s the only one looking into the camera, at least one thing hinting this might be about her and not about Edward.
They look absolutely stunning, I love how Bella looks way more mature with her straight hair and the shorter haircut. Kristen’s beautiful.
All in all the poster’s quite cool, not only because it feels like forever that I’ve been waiting for it. It’s so good to see Jacob there, although I hope to see some posters with a bit MORE of him
But I agree: this could easily be a poster for Eclipse, I don’t think New Moon’s so much about a love triangle, considering the fact that Bella, who would be the link between Edward and Jacob, should be AWARE of her love for Jake, which she isn’t (consciously), so it’s more about a broken heart and friendship. But I knew ever since that E!online special they would make it look like a love-triangle-story, I guess that sells better.

well thanks! It's quite good, but they really should have rearranged their positions... putting Edward in the center of New Moon isn't right, New Moon is about different things than Robert Pattinson.

I am a die-hard Team Edward and Rob Pattinson fan, but I agree. New Moon is about the darkest time in Bella's life. The emphasis of the book is Bella's heartache/grief/hysteria over losing Edward, and then finding a glimmer of hope with Jacob.

Rob can be the focal point of posters during Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, and even though he's in the movie a lot more than he is in the book- his presence is supposed to be missed by the audience... until the end.

Oh it's good to hear that from an Edward-fan... it shouldn't matter how popular the actors are, this is still a book adaption, and the book is definitely not about Edward. I remember when they announced New Moon the movie and everyone was freaking out because there's so little Edward in the book; Well here we are, they surely took care of that problem, a bit too much for my taste.
I really, really like Rob and I even like Edward, there's nothing wrong with either of them, but this is a complete misinterpretation of the book. Mhhh, but I still hope for other poster with different arrangements, this will hardly be it.
