I know the person who did this. He had to zoom in incredibly, and hold it above his head to get over the equipment.. so it's the best he could do. Also, they're just rehearsing lines.. probably trying out different things to improv.. see what would work.

Rob always chews gum on set. It's just a habit smokers have when they're going to be in close proxemics with someone else... it's courteous. He did it during the filming of Twilight as well.
