Twilight fan Malicious Mandy has a great trip report from Montepulciano, where she tries to gather some intel on the filming locations and such before New Moon begins filming in Montepulciano, Italy later this month.

Obviously the Piazza Grande will be used. That will be the busy square that Bella runs through just as the clock (conveniently on the tower) strikes noon. There are two alleys on either side of the main building, and both are fairly atmospheric, but I’m not convinced that they’ll be the ones used in the film. [....] The other building that they are supposedly using (none of this is confirmed, I’m just going on Montepulciano’s tourism board), is the Palazzo Selimbini. It’s about a ten minute walk straight downhill from the Piazza Grande.

    one thing that i'm really hoping they show there is her running through the fountain to get to him. that's something i've always seen in my head and one of the most dramatic things she does to get through all the people. i think it would be gorgeous to showcase, but i don't know if there's a fountain in this place. oh well...it's still there in my mind from when i read the book!!! :)

    The good news is... this is a movie. They could always MAKE a fountain in the plaza. I've seen it with location sets. They bring in trees, build creeks and houses. There's no reason they couldn't build a fountain too.

    yeah i thought of that too. i just hope they don't overlook it in general and actually THINK to add it. i think it would just add to the beauty of the square and help add visual interest. with this budget they're working with, adding a fountain should be the least of their worries if they can make guys transform into werewolves and edward sparkle better.

    Montepulciano seems like a truly beautiful place!! I wanna visit Italy one day... so gorgeous... I'm so exicited for the scenes being filmed there... awww when Bella is running trying to stop my Edward... that makes me teary as well... man that whole book made me teary... lol.. I LOVE it!!
