2009 MTV Movie Awards Draws 76% More Viewers than 2008

200906020846.jpg The Twilight gang helped out the MTV Movie Awards in a big way–viewership was up 76% over last year, making it the biggest show since 2004. This follows on the heels of the Oscars–

This is the second awards show this year in which a little bit of Pattinson has helped produce a whole lot of ratings. February’s Oscars, featuring Pattinson on presenting duty, saw its numbers zoom among teens and kids.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Brüno’s fall into Eminem’s lap, meanwhile, would like to think it aided the MTV Movie Awards’ cause, too. According to MTV, the incident was its site’s most-watched award clip at one point today—drawing even more traffic than the New Moon trailer.

If such a thing is possible.

    Haha.. the fact that MY Rob and the rest of the cast was gonna be at the MTV awards, that they were nominated AND that they were gonna introduce the NM trailer was the ONLY reason I watched those awards... lol... I wouldn't have watched otherwise... woohoo... Twilight Ruled!!

    Exactly people need to stop assuming that everything is about Rob dont get me wrong I love him but I really tuned in to see the New Moon trailer that ive been waiting for a minute. I stopped watching the mtv movie awards because they sucked and the movies i wanted to win never did. So this year I had a reason to tune I needed to see if my movie would FINALLY get recognized and to see the trailer, but I must say I saw the whole show and it was entertaining maybe ill tune in next year and maybe New Moon can sweep up all the awards baby especially if I get to vote because I voted everyday =) 170 days to New Moon WOOT WOOT!!!!

    I'm not surprised the ratings were up this year. The only reason I watched was to see the NM trailer. (It wasn't just to see Rob.) And yes the crazy fangirls of Rob probably contributed too. That just shows you the power of us obsessed fans, especially considering Twilight won 5 of the 6 awards it was up for. (I'm still disappointed that Parmore lost to stupid Miley Cyrus for best song Grrrrr.)

    For me this was not about Rob, but Twilight. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything against Pattinson. I watched because I love the story, not because I am in love with the cast members that brought the story to life. By the way, they did a great job!
    I too believe this will be the year of the wolf and Taylor Lautner. I happen to be a little partial to Edward's character, but I am wondering if the New Moon movie will change that.

    they're gonna take such a huge advantage of Twilight, cos we all know that the number of TwiFans is still rising and we still have 3 movies to go.

    I only watched the show to see the New Moon trailer.....I didn't watch anything after although I did keep recording and went back to watch Kristen drop her award. I watched the trailer over and over and all my neighbors heard was my squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

    Taylor is sending shivers down the spine of me and my fellow cougars but we're still solid hardcore Rob obsessionists...(especially since he revealed his "new bod"!) Me ~ Ow!!

    Ok I am not gonna lie. I never watch the MTV Movie Awards. Normally just catch it when they show it for like the next week. But I definitely watched the whole thing and DVRed it so I could watch it as many times as I want. And that is because Twilight was up for like ALL the categories and I knew they were going to sweep it and the New Moon Trailer! I think that the next three award shows are going to be the same. Next will be New Moon, then Eclipse, then Breaking Dawn. You think they will sweep it all of those years too?? I sure hope so!

    Next year will be different. Half-Blood prince is coming out this year, and they will for sure be nominated for some awards and they have a big fanbase too (including me xD)...so we'll see.
    But the fact is as long there are Twilight movies they will be present at MTV Movie Awards, there's no doubt about it. Next year will probably have an Eclipse trailer if they don't release it before or a clip, it will be exciting.

    i think a lot of people know that. them boys down at mtv sure knew what they were doin' when they headlined the twilight cast for the show. seriously, i mean those ratings were off the wall and like many others who have said so, i dont even watch mtv, im 20 and though i think its geared towards teens and people my age i seriously cant stand it. was definitely worth it for some rob action, though ;)

  • Well I stopped watching MTV when I left uni and grew up and got a job....first time I have watched these awards in a few years and the only reason was Twilight..hell I stayed up watching it being streamed live I was so desperate to catch the action!

    I'm already looking forward to next year when New Moon will win everything!

    Yeah I think that was the problem, we focused on voting for the cast, and the film, and (by accident) might have forgotten about Paramore

    Miley Cyrus....I still can't get over it...

    (Next time we have to make sure they keep the cellphones away from the kids :D)

    Bruno falling was hilarious. That movie looks like it'll be really funny. Robert was of course, incredibly good looking, but I think my favorite part was Kristen's popcorn award tripping over her hands. For as awkward as the moment was, she recovered from it pretty well. It looked like something I would have done.

    I think if he fell w/o his butt all over people, like just fell over laps, it would've been funny. But I couldn't even laugh at how he landed.. that was disgusting. :| I don't know if Eminem was in on that.. cause he looked seriously pissed. I would be, too.
  • I agree. With MTV, you can never really tell what's staged and what's not staged. Either eminem is a brilliant actor, or he was actually upset. and rightfully so.

    I hope they were all in on it. If not, MTV better be sending some super sweet apologies to mr. mathers, and maybe mr. efron, too.

    I'm not sure anyone is that brilliant of an actor. lol. He looked disgusted seeing him coming down, you could see him swearing like crazy for people to get him off, and then when he left he just looked furious. If that was an act, I'd be shocked. haha.

    But yeah, if it wasn't an act, they owe him a serious apology. And even though I don't care for Efron, he should get one, too!
