Chris Weitz: New Moon Like a “Victorian Narrative Painting”

by Will on June 10, 2009 · Comments

in Chris Weitz

200906100816.jpg MetroNews has a great new interview with New Moon director Chris Weitz. In it, he talks about some of the differences we’ll see in New Moon compared to Twilight, including the visual look of the movie–

Q. You’re a very visual director. What’s your vision for New Moon?

A. We’ve got an amazing visual effects team. The whole idea is to use the full palette of colors, to have our shadows be very dark and to have our colours be very rich so that we can experience the full range of emotional texture. The idea is that this will look like a Victorian narrative painting in a way, with those medieval jewel-like colours as well as very glossy deep blacks, and for the composition of the frames to be classical. In some ways, this is going to be a rather old-fashioned film. There are elements that incorporate the latest technology and there are things that are very dynamic in the action scenes. But it’s more Dr. Zhivago than Iron Man.

Sounds awesome! Read the rest of the interview at MetroNews.

I still don't understand why we have to let this guy go. I just hope he'll be back for BD. AND I hope he's working really closely with Slade during Eclipse production. I am constantly finding new reasons to respect Weitz.
  • I pray to the GODS they bring Chris back for BD....they just HAVE TO!!!!
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
*prays to GODS along w/ Team Perv*
  • One thing that I've noticed, is that alot of the media really does follow what we discuss on these Twilight message boards. The more we keep talking about it, the more it will get recognized and then publisized about the fans love for Chris Weitz & how badly we want him back for BD. Let our voices be heard!!

    SUMMITT!!! PAY ATTENTION!!!!

************ CHRIS WEITZ FOR BREAKING DAWN!!!! ***************
  • Aloha - Scooby Doo
    And at least three hours!!
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
    Here, here!!!
I really want Chris to be back for BD... I have so much faith in him after what we've seen and heard about him!!! I hope he DOES come back!!

    *************CHRIS WEITZ FOR BD*************

    PLEASE!!!!!
  • ancha85
    Yes, yes, please Lord yes!!!!!!

Summit are you listening??? Please do this for us!!!
  • Vampgirl(Team Robsten forever)
Begin the t-shirts, the promos, we need this man back.
  • SnowWhiteQueen
more reason to like this guy (and he said this in the interview- "And I read the book and I thought I saw my way of making a good version of the book. It’s really a question of whether I can do justice to the book and to please the readers. That’s my job. It’s not to run away with it and just do my version of things. It’s to be faithful to their experience of reading it."
I think im in love... <3
  • The thought of David Slade scares the crap out of me. Have you seen 30 days of Night? Horrible, just horrible.
  • PKM22
Well, 30 Days of Nights is a totally different kind of story. I thought it was a cool movie and it was visually awesome. For Eclipse they needed a director who knows how to direct a character driven movie and an action movie all rolled in to one and David Slade has experiance with both. I would take David Slade over Freakin Drew Barrymore any day of the week. I'm not your normal Twilight fan I'm 30 year old guy and Elipse was my favorite of the books so I definately want to see a good movie which I think David Slade will deliver. Trust me none of these directors will go to far from Stephenie Meyer's path if for no other reason the fear of death is a powerful detorant and I don't think anyone can do worse than Catherine Hardwicke did.
  • Excellent points!

And yes, ANYONE is better then Drew Barrymore. I still can't believe her name was thrown around .. ick!

And once again, I agree - anything is better than what Catherine did. Mind you, I dont' want to start a Catherine rant. I think that Twilight was too big for her, and she didn't have the experience or know how, to handle it. Also, the budget would have had a HUGE impact on Twilight as well
  • mschicklet
Ditto but I'm trying to keep an open mind til I'm given a reason to despise him.
  • I'm trying REALLY hard to keep an open mind ... everyone deserves a second chance. But after those comments he made (of course, he was just kidding right?) then seeing 30 Days of Night ... gah!
  • mschicklet
Knowing that he made the comments prior to seeing Twilight or becoming invested in the series, that didn't bug me TOO much. Had he made the comments after knowing about the Twilight series, it would have been stupid on his part to become attached to a series he despised.. But alas, that didn't appear to be the case, so no biggie.

But I don't want Eclipse to look like 30 Days of night or Hard Candy. Good films, maybe. But the Twilight series is different. But Weitz did American Pie (high school drunk movie) and then did About a Boy and Golden Compass (both very beautiful, emotional films). So I keep trying to remind myself that one's past work doesn't always dictate what their future work will be like.

    *crosses fingers*
  • Either way. I wasn't too thrilled about the comments made. We'll see what happens around this time next year. He might surprise us all, or butcher the whole thing. I don't expect Eclipse to be as big of a money maker as New Moon .. don't ask me why, I just have a strange feeling. I think it will do great. But I think New Moon and Breaking Dawn will be the HUGE money makers.
  • mschicklet
Ahhhh don't say that about Eclipse lol. It's my favorite book so of course I want it to be the best movie :) So many romantic Bella/Edward parts in that one. Sooo sappy :)
  • ancha85
And love the emotionally triangle interaction between Edward/Bella/Jacob.
The tent scene is my fav in the whole Saga!

They better do it justice. Hopefully CW will be involved with it a lot behind the scenes.

I did see that DS was very kind and polite when he saw any fans in Vancouver and apologized a lot. He also posted an apology online. So I am giving him a chance.

DS just ask SM and CW if your not sure about doing something in Eclipse. They will give you the correct feedback!
  • The Tent Scene is legendary.
  • ugh i dont like the tent scene. lol its my least fave book, eclipse. my fave is new moon so obviously im very excited! victorian narrative, eh? whoa. this guy sounds amazing, the cast were right.
  • lol I wasn't trying to be mean about Eclipse at all. I just think that New Moon and BD will be the huge money makers, thats all! I'm just really really really scared for Eclipse. I need some reassurance to shake this feeling! Maybe once it starts filming and we get some sneak peeks I'll feel better
  • ZaraLovesTwilight
No, I disagree with that, one because eclipse is my favourite and eclipse has a bit of everything, action, love triangle, romance, heart break etc. I know new moon has that but eclipse brings it up a notch and breaking dawn might be a big money maker but it costs lots to make it and I'm not sure if it will make enough money, to have profit. I don't care since that's the last twilight saga movie, that is so sad :(
  • That totally came out wrong. I'm just nervous, very nervous with David Slade. Maybe he'll be the best director out of all of them. I need some reassurance! lol

I was in no way putting down the book Eclipse. It was amazing!
  • Patty
Yes, just think positive!! I was nervous about CW and he is doing a awesome job :) ....It would be nice to see CW direct NM!!!

Enjoyed all his answers and its good to hear from him :)
  • 30yearoldtwifan "Team Slade"
I disagree, 30days was a graphic comic, Slade followed that. Also it may have been bloody but the visual world was very detailed.
  • mschicklet
Yea, he probably did stay close to the source material.

We're just saying we don't want the Twilight movies to look visually the way 30 Days did. That's all I'm saying anyway.
  • I agree! : )
  • It had nothing to do w/ the blood at all. I mean the ending, was horrible. He didn't deliver on the "big fight". And when the main character gave up his life to save everyone else, it should have been VERY sad at the end, but it wasn't. And when he burned because of the sun .. the visual was horrible.

Its just my opinion .. and I didn't like it at all.Very disappointed.
  • Yep....me too..trying to keep an open mind about him, but it's scary
  • ♥LoveThemCullenBoys ♥s Edward♥
Oh me too!! really scared!! I know we need to keep an open mind but OMG if this man ruins

Eclipse.. so help god I will flip out...Eclipse is the turning part of the story for Edward, Bella and

Jacob... Crossing fingers..... Three words for Slade... FOLLOW THE BOOK..... = P
  • ishta
30 day of night is great and the ending was great. He has my support
  • And IMO - it wasn't.

Hopefully he'll do better w/ Eclipse and not butcher it. He seems very arrogant (when he has no reason to be) and cocky. Maybe thats just a silly perception, and he may be the nicest guy ever. And totally rock the house w/ Eclipse. We'll just have to wait to see!
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
Saw, liked it... it scares me a little too... I know he's gonna do GREAT with the new borns, I'm just a little worried about the rest of the book... but I'm keepin' the faith... ;)
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
Stop being so negative! He'll be GLEAT! (Irish accent added for fun)
  • okay okay .. I"ll try my HARDEST to stop being so freakin negative! LOL
  • hahaha ok .. yes, you are right .. the newborns WILL be awesome .. that part i'm not worried about!

And yes, that movie did freak me out a bit when I went to bed that night LOL
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
His vamps were.... FREAKING... me OUT!
  • Hang on though, we haven't seen it yet... and to be honest the trailer wasn't exactly mind blowing... I hate the new warm colour scheme!

Weitz is great with the old special effects but in fairness The Golden Compass is all we really have to go on, characters are way more important than effects in my book, I'll suspend my disbelief if the writing is good. Hopefully it won't be all effects and no heart.
  • RobIsMyHeroin
See, I LOVE the new warm color scheme! I think it's soooo much better than that blue tint that Twilight had.
  • Although I retract as I wasn't aware he did About a Boy...

    I TAKE IT BACK!!
  • ZaraLovesTwilight
Don't judge CW on golden compass because that was a cruddy book so that makes a cruddy movie because the story was not good.

Also, that was a teaser trailer lasting for 1.48 minutes so how can it be "mind blowing", new moon isn't like that, and judging it on that amount of time is not fair as it doesn't have all the volterra scenes etc to make it seem more epic and exciting or mind blowing as you call it

Lastly, what's wrong with the warm colour scheme? Nothing, the blue tint was good for twilight, orangish brown is good for new moon and I hope they have a dark marroonish bloodish purple colour for breaking dawn, sorry but I can't describe it, never mind, and a greenish colour for eclipse.
  • I'm not saying anything because I haven't seen New Moon yet! People are comparing the two movies already!

I liked Hardwicks approach to Twilight, I know how hard it is to adapt a book into an hour and a half...

    We'll see anyway!
  • I know... he did such a great job is like if he is irresplaceable!!! I really hope we do get him back!!!
  • Lovin_the_Cullens_n_Bella
I agree.....he needs to come back for the other 2....I was worried about first, but seriously...Chris is awesome!!!!!! We need to start a "Bring Chris Back" Campaign.
  • IAMEDWARD
I would really like to see them bring Chris Weitz back as the director for Breaking Dawn. It looks like CW is doing a really good job with NM and he really knows how to make a good movie. I thought that the golden compass was gonna be stupid, but then I watched it and I was like "wow that was way better than what I thought it was gonna be." If Summit doesn't bring CW back for BD then I'm gonna be really mad, because BD is my favorite book of the saga. Summit better do it justice. CW is a beast!!
  • peace,<3 ,fire,ice &compromise
honestly before Twilight as a franchise came out, i didnt care too much about directors and whatnot. i just cared that the movie was good. But when we are dealing with this wonderful series its like i noticed more of the role of a director and im so pleased to know that Chris Weitz is doing such an amazing job. This whole Twilight series is so much more involved than just the actors, every single person is so important and im just so glad that due to Catherines injustice to Twilight, ive learned to appreciate on a deeper scale the genius of Chris Weitz.., and well damn this is just the interviews , they trailer, the comments from the actors and the way he carries himself... cant wait to see the finished product. !!!!!

    p.s i love rob.edward. =)
  • CF911 Team Tyler!
So far, I have so much respect for Chris Weitz. I feel that he is so intuned to what we want in this film. He stated that he wanted to make the movie from the book and fan's perspective instead of his own. That was the problem with Catherine is that she made it from HER perspective instead of the fans.

And his descriptions of the book and his take on it, right on track. I really do feel that this movie is going to be a Twilight masterpiece.

And I have to give him props for politely bashing Stephen King. You rock Chris!!
  • Majnona (H.N)
I know I LOVED his comment on what Stephen said. It sounded like he was offended himself.
  • mschicklet
Ahh I can't stand Stephen King (and not even because of the Steph debacle). Go Chris :)
  • RobIsMyHeroin
I like the way he responded to Stephen King as well. I mean, Stephen King used to have some good books, but his recent stuff has sucked. But NONE of his books really deal with an emotional "love story" concept. He really doesn't have a valid opinion on Twilight. And even though he likes the Harry Potter series, it's kinda stupid to compare it to that as Harrry Potter wasn't a love story either!
  • ancha85
    Exactly!!!!!!!!!
  • Jaypat
What did he say about Stephen King? I missed that. Now I LOVE Chris Weitz!!! I thought it was stupid for any writer to bash another. It made him look jealous. Why do people have to be haters when others succeed? She has inspire another generation to read. How can you say she's awful? Even if he didn't like her books, he should have been respectful.

Opps! I read it again! How did I miss that?
  • Is it just me ... or is Chris Weitz .. kinda ... cute...
  • He is totally gorgeous!!
    His voice makes me melt.

..hes nothing compared to Rob, but still :D
  • No Rob ... but still good looking! lol
  • Twilight_Luvr
He is!! He has this sweet kind of endearing look about him. He's a little sexy too, lol.
  • I love Chris
Hes handsome and he knows what hes doing
Please bring Weitz back for Breaking Dawn!
  • 30yearoldtwifan "Team Slade"
I'm not going to go that far yet, to say please bring him back for BD, I want to see NM first hard to make an assessment on a 2 minute trailer. So far it seems he did a great job.
  • ishta
before you have even seen it?
  • ancha85
    Please, please bring him back!!!!!!!1
  • cutesweetiezzz
I completely love Chris Weitz as the director of New Moon. He just sounds like he knows what he's doing and he's in complete control of this movie. I love him!!!!!!! He answers all the questions thoughtfully and logically. Could we ask for a better director? I don't think so. I'm really sad to know that he won't be back for Eclipse. Seriously, if I got to choose, I rather wait a little bit longer for him to finish editing New Moon and then go back to direct Eclipse. I have a feeling it'll be completely worth it. However, for now, I just want him to come back to direct Breaking Dawn.
  • ItsRobert_Effing_Pattinson
Man, that guy seems like a great director, he is gonna do AWESOME with this movie...

**gets up to make Chris Weitz shrine bigger**

hmm...not enough room up there with Taylor and Pattinson...

**builds Pattinson his own mantle for his shrine**

there...now Chris and Taylor can share, Pattinson has his own, as it should be and I can make the Weitz shrine bigger....Everybody wins!! SWEET!!

    lol
  • twifan89
love chris! i think he really understands the book and what the fans want! i am hoping this film lives up to my expectations! i have faith that chris will not dissapoint!
  • ItsRobert_Effing_Pattinson
    **dials twifan 89's phone number**

    **ringing**

    "Hello?"

  • i know and its my fave book and hearing his description of the colors im already loving it, although the trailer did that for me too! can't wait! *squee* :D
  • Wanna_Be_Cullen
yah i agree with mschicklet we can onle hope he'll be here for BD

I absolutely cannot WAIT to see this movie! I think Chris Weitz will do the book justice......how many more days, months, hours, minutes??????
  • Wanna_Be_Cullen
    162 day's

i had to do this for my neice Carrie all she wanted for her birthday last month was a New Moon countdown!!!
    LOL
  • Bloodsucker1975
There is 161 days 11 hours 59 mins and the seconds go to fast for me to put them but they are not going fast enough is it November yet..
  • latinadominicana
Stephen king obviously is very insensible cause this book has ALOT of senses.Too many to count if you ask me!love,loss,heartbreak,jealously,hatred,terror,etc....
I mean seriously....Anyone comment if you agree with me !!!!!!
  • eva6kora
I agree that Chris is a great director and it seems that New Moon is going to be different, probably better in some ways than Twilight, BUT don't forget that it all started with Catherine Hardwicke and no one should put her down and judge her work on Twilight. She brought Edward and Bella to life and she picked the two best people like Robert and Kristen. Of course people knew Twilight books before but Catherine started all this great chaos and our obsession with Rob, Edward, Jacob, Taylor, Bella, Kristen... So thanks Catherine and good luck to Chris! We are soo happy that you make these great movies for us!!!
  • sue1111
    I agree.

I'm looking forward to Chris's "New Moon".

    **understatement**

I loved this interview. It gives me insight into him and even more hope for the movie.

However, as you say, Catherine had a more difficult job I think. The casting was on her watch. She had more risk, and less budget than Chris.

The Chemistry between the main characters was critical, and she focused on getting that right. Twilight wasn't perfect, and certain scenes were better in the book, but overall, the feel was right. Forks looked right, the truck was right.. etc. etc. It could have so easily been too cheesy, or flat. I liked the creative edge it had. So, welcome Chris, and thank you Catherine.

I have a feeling that Catherine is enjoying her year, and getting to enjoy the success of "Twilight" more than she would have if she were swamped with "New Moon". I really hope she is enjoying her success, and getting into her new projects. I'm almost sure she is.
  • alexa
YES!! he actually GETS it! unlike some people *cough* ms hardwicke *cough*

please summit bring him back for breaking dawn!
  • cclore ~ Team CW for BD
I can't wait to see this movie!!!!! The visual aspect is going to be awesome, imo!

And if CW meets our expectations, then he definitely needs to be brought back for BD!!!
  • Rob_is_my_Kryptonite
I like that Chris is using a "palette of color"!!! I am a fan of color. That was one of the things that irked me about CH...Twilight was too dull/blue all the time! It felt like she used the same colors over and over throughout the movie.
    Good Job Chris!!!
  • mschicklet
I have to admit it is funny how impressed we all are of Weitz now. I mean, from my POV I was always a fan of his. Say what you want about Golden Compass (plot dicing aside, it was visually beautiful and the story was epic)....but I loved GC from the very beginning and still do. I thought he did a great job and I'm sad he never got a chance to do the sequels.

My point is, we're all nervous about Slade (I definitely am) but maybe he'll pleasantly surprise us.... maybe he'll do something to "prove" to us that he gets what the story is all about. and we'll be gushing over him in a few months the way we are with Weitz now. ;) One can only hope!!
  • Very true! Well said. But I don't ever remember being THIS nervous about Chris. Actually, I wasn't nervous about Chris at all!
  • Neither. It was weird. From the start I've loved Chris, even though I didn't know him or his plans for the movie. Theres just something about him that I love.

With Catherine, I had doubts from the start..
    and with slade aswell..

..so Im a bit nervous for Eclipse
  • mschicklet
I remember when the announcement was made that he was directing, people flooded the threads (on all sites that I visited, not just this one) with "OMG GOLDEN COMPASS SUCKED! WEITZ IS GOING TO RUIN NEW MOON!" comments. And that made me sad 1) because I loved GC, and 2) because I think people deserve a fair chance.

Unless they're Tim Burton. lmao sorry to say, I'd cry thousands of lonely tears if Burton signed on to any of the Twilight movies. That's my only bias, I think. Hypocritical, I know. But la dee dah.
  • 30yearoldtwifan "Team Slade"
Yup I remember that also! People were saying how he ruined the ending of Golden Compass. He did have a lot of people saying that, I do think the Twilight fans scare the directors some, they don't want the pitch forks out or the crazy 14 year old hunting them down LOL

Don'T forget there's also older people who love the series to Summit! We can get feisty also.
  • RobIsMyHeroin
Not only can us older fans get feisty...but there are more of us than they seem to realize AND we actually have the means to go hunt people down if we so wish!
  • Oh im sure there were tons of ppl who were upset about it. I was just stating that I wasn't. Not for a second.

I actually remember seeing some of those posts on this website too. haha I didn't comment .. wasn't getting into that fight!! LOL I've learned very quickly to choose my battles on here! haha
  • Patty
Yes I remember that!!! People didnt want CW in the begining so give David Slade a chance!! I was nervous about CW and he is doing an awesome job!! Like others have said maybe DS will do and AWESOME job with Eclipse... fingers crossed!!!
  • JTSTeam Swiss
I think I've fallen for CW!
Can Chris Weitz be even more amazing than I thought? His vision for the book and his description of the stories/themes is ultimately what the books encompass. His answers alone prove that he understands the wide range of emotions that the characters go through and why people can relate to the series so much! He is most definitely going to surpass most people's expectations...

Please please Summit, bring him back for BD!
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
Jillian, right there with you!! His answers really impressed me- from the way he answered them - to the way he described his vision - and finally to his thoughts on why it's such a great film.

I can go on and on about this man- he's fan-freaking-tastic!
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
Right there also! I thought he was hot the other day with the close up pics, now he's even hotter! Love what he said about the whole experience. He rocks.
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
i know! if this whole 'me and rob' bit doesn't work out (big fat IF), I wouldn't mind moseying on over to the Team Weitz side
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
LMAO!!!! Yeah, you'd have to actually FIND Rob and proposition him first - sigh..... hard to do. hard. to. do.
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
oh yes, eye on the tiger.. must..not...lose...hope
  • JTSTeam Swiss
    lol

    "If"

and that's a big fat If...
    don't lose hope!
  • JTSTeam Swiss
i'm really starting to totally see what you all are talking about and CW's good-looking-ness...he def. has some quality handsomeness going on there...not outright H-O-T, but there's something there i agree.
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
    Exactly Jillian!
I think this theory is what makes Rob so ... over the top for everyone, he's got it ALL..... and then some.
  • JTSTeam Swiss
    most def!
honestly way back when when i knew nothing about twilight
(uhm late December to be exact) and all those entertainment stuff was all about Rob. i was BAFFLED! seriously, everyone is loving this guy? totally did NOT get why everyone was smitten with the guy...
so what did i do? youtubed him, saw the interview of variety? (the one where he says "Don't like me, I am a d*ck!) i think and access hollywood had me literally ROTFLMAO. said to myself "ok, this guy is a crackhead (in a totally you just made me laugh my @$$ off way) - I like him!"

ahh Rob, the appeal for him just keeps on going...like the energizer bunny...oh same goes for CW too
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
LMAO!! I saw that one where he said "don't like me, I'm a d*ck"... loved it! he's freaking hillarious to watch.
  • JTSTeam Swiss
    i know, right!!!

the fact that the cast alone seemed to have great things to say about him way back in march bf filming even began and NOW THIS!!! i'm so excited to see this movie!
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
As if I couldn't praise Chris Weitz any more, he goes off and says these wonderful things!!

"...to have our shadows be very dark and to have our colours be very rich so that we can experience the full range of emotional texture." that sounds so amazing, i feel like he REALLY GETS IT! He understands cinematography, and is going the extra mile to look into the details and really bring the movie alive!

I liked the blue tint that Twilight had, but I am really excited for the change that Chris is will bring in with his special effects team.

    *thinks about shirtless sparkling Rob*

    **thud**
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
    *gets up, and applauds*

"It’s really a question of whether I can do justice to the book and to please the readers. That’s my job. It’s not to run away with it and just do my version of things. It’s to be faithful to their experience of reading it."

    yes, yes, YES!!

    *standing ovation*
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
    LMFAO!!
    *walks up to RIMR covertly*
*talks out of the side of the mouth while looking in the other direction*
Clearly you are in on the plan! Excellent!!!!
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
    *gasps*

**looks over to see flpImtree95's dashing avatar**

    ***squeals***

yay! you're here! and yes.. *tones down excitement* I am savvy to the plan. LOL
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
LMFAO!!! LOVE IT! I went a little over board on the Cam thread... but it was fun.
  • 4thewolf
*sidles over to RismR, looking very hurt*
    *bambi eyes*
YOu...you wouldn't dream of leaving me out of this..plan would you???
*tears well up in eyes and start spilling down cheeks*
Is it because I"m a wolf, or because I am small but violent
    *walks away sobbing into hands*
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
*checking post from last night to see which one stated our plan*

*talks out of the side of mouth to 4TW*

go check out the Rob Pattinson/Pop Sugar thread from last night, about 1/2 way down.

*shuffles away before anyone notices this conversation*
  • 4thewolf
    Umm...okey doke..

    *shuffles away inconspicuously*
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
oh 4thewolf, of COURSE i wouldn't leave out on of my favorite wolf girls! We need you!

*gives 4TW GIANT werewolf sized hug* don't be sad, i naturally assumed you'd be in with us! :0)

the plan has not yet been ironed out, but it involves a shrine to Chris Weitz, and the possible 'accidental disappearance' of catherine hardwicke

    lOL
  • crazy4cullens*RollingRockRob
It's such a relief to hear a director talk with such knowledge and compassion for this series. Such an improvement from wacko Catherine. I'm really looking forward to seeing the entire movie. Every interview with him makes me more and more excited.
  • i just can't wait till november to see the movie........!!!!!!!!!!

    he was so cool!!!
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
From what I can see he has done an excellent job with New Moon.
I would like to see him direct Eclipse and BD...they need to keep him!!!!
    I can't wait for November!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I wish he was directing Eclipse : (

I'm truly hoping that he comes back for BD.
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
I would love to see him direct BD.
I'm kinda nervous about Slade doing Eclipse...of course if he sticks to the book like Chris has then I won't have a problem. :)
  • Yeah hopefully he doesn't go way out there and do his own thing. Oddly enough, I can see him doing that. He seems so arrogant ... but he'hll have to feel the wrath of Summit if he steps out of line (ahem - previous statements).

I'm just very very nervous. But as previously said by others, he may blow us all away.
  • ancha85
Totally agree. Summit won't allow it, plus they allow SM to have so much say in filming, so he won't be allowed to go all wild.
  • RobIsMyHeroin
I hope for the same thing. But, I agree with some others that I think the fans may put the fear in him for even THINKING about getting too out there! I guess we'll see what happens in about 2 months when all the filming stalkers start giving us info on what's happening!
  • Wanna_Be_Cullen
well somebody else is already Eclipse (Christian Slade)
but maybe they have different director's for the first 3 movies so then they'll know wich 1 of the 3 will be best for BD

(Bd was my favorite of the 3: Marriage, baby, imprint, chang, war, findings i just loved it!!!!
  • ♥LoveThemCullenBoys ♥s Edward♥
SPUNK!!! There you are Effing was getting worried about you being M.I.A. = P

I agree with you on Chris..because just from what we saw in the trailer took my breathe way... My god Chris

blew Catherine out of the water in less that 2 minutes... I hope Chris would come back for Breaking Dawn..

    Crossing fingers...for that.... = P
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
    Good morning LTCB!!!

LOL @ MIA - I feel that way!!!

It's this family vacation thingy I've got going on! LOL
My hubby has threatened to hide the laptop from me! LOL

He's already on Effing's "beat down" list and he was close to being on mine when he threatened me with taking away my laptop!

Heck yeah Chris blew Catherine away in the trailer!! I would have loved to see her reaction to the trailer when she seen it....
    "why isn't it a blue'ish gray tint?"
"why are all the vampires "warm" looking"
"why the hale didnt I think about doing that?"

    LMAO!!!!
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
    LMAO Spunk!

Tell your hubby he does NOT want us to come up there!!!! ;)
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
LOL - I told him 2 could play at this game!!

Take away my laptop and NMM and within 2 mins I could have the whole gang here to kick his a$$!!! LOL

    **smiles**

he handed it back and apologized!!!! LMAO!!!
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
HA! And we'd do it too!!!

I seriously do not think the hubbies (or wives, in very few instances) GET the whole support system we have going here...
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
He doesn't understand how I can be on here so much....I told him it's the only place I can go and drool over a man that is younger than I am, obsess over a movie I've seen 100 times and there are a lot other just like me that understand!!!
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
LMAO!! I know Spunkie!!! I felt very alone till I found this site... I thought something was wrong with me for acting to obsessively compulsive about it.

Now I've seen the light.... tis we that are normal... all others are just... not right.
  • ♥LoveThemCullenBoys ♥s Edward♥
Oh my husband tells me that too... They don't understand... thank god you

    all do... = P
  • ♥LoveThemCullenBoys ♥s Edward♥
LOL!! Aw! Yes the List.... That's what Effing meant yesterday about you being on the beach and

wondering if you needed Effings cell # in case you needed bail money..( maybe she thought you

were going to do anything to get your laptop back from your husband. ) LOL!! = P

Yeah I so wanted to see CH face when the trailier was shown..That would of been "Priceless!"
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
    LMAO!!

*note to self - get Effing's cell # for future bail money whether it be for stalking Rob or lashing out on the hubby* LOL

I may need you for back up too - bring Sparkly too - I need all the help I can get!!!! LOL
  • ♥LoveThemCullenBoys ♥s Edward♥
You got it Spunk.!.. What every you need.. You know us... We'll come prepared for

anything... *packing bag with supplies to be ready if Spunk gives us notice for rescue

    mission* LOL!!
  • He also said -

"It’s really a question of whether I can do justice to the book and to please the readers. That’s my job. It’s not to run away with it and just do my version of things. It’s to be faithful to their experience of reading it."

^ Which is the complete opposite to Creepy Catherine
"yeeaa dude letts like completelly butcherrr this moovie yeaaa I want it myyyy way woooo i doo drugs"

Woah - reading the whole interview.. woah. That man.. woah. He totally gets the book, the story, the moods.. everything. Its freaking me out actually.

    WEITZ FOR BREAKING DAWN<3
  • ohhh Chris .. awesome .. just awesome!! I have no worries when it comes to New Moon
  • Wanna_Be_Cullen
    you're hilarios!!
  • LMAO @ creepy Catherine! "Yeahhhh dude, let's like completely butcher this movie ..." THAT'S AN UNDERSTATMENT!

What Chris said is dead on! Do the book justice and please the fans! Without us, there would be NO Twilight success!

I cannot wait till November!!!! 162 days and counting................

    WEITZ FOR BREAKING DAWN!
  • mschicklet
Agreed. I've commented on this before, but it bugged me watching the dvd commentary (err, listening, not really watching) where Catherine said Mike Welch randomly wanted to try the butt shaking thing ... and Catherine said "Yea, sure.. Who am I to stomp on someone's creativity?" or something like that.

And that really annoyed me, because yes creativity is awesome, but as a director it was her job to keep everyone - cast and crew alike - on track. Not just on track but on the "right track." Which means staying loyal to the source material (book and script).

Being a free spirit is great, but not when it means failing to do your job.

Chris knew how precious the books were to us and knew they deserved a great deal of respect. He "got it" as Melissa Rosenberg put it. And I respect him for that.
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
I agree with you mschicklet. I didn't particularly have a problem with Catherine until I watched her on the bonus features, and how the cast responded to her direction, or lack thereof. I feel like her focus was on HER view of Twilight, and how SHE wanted to bring it to life.

Chris' answers really impressed me, and as a fan, I feel extremely lucky that HE'S directing the second movie in the saga.
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
    *shaking*

    cant..... stand..... Catherine..... Harkwick!!!!!!!!!!
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
lol, don't even get me started on her! there are tons of threads under her article from yesterday- i think we let out a lot of 'I hate CH' steam yesterday, LOL
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
And ironically, on FB (that Twilight Examiner page) there's a whole thread of people EXCITED (yes, excited) about her wanting to do that project!!!

    Serious... W.T.F. moment!!!

What is WRONG with these people?
  • Kim1524 (Fanfic Junkie)
They're obviously smoking the same herbs she is!!!

Oops did I just say that? Yep guess I did

    *Shrugs shoulders*
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
    *raises an eye brow*

ORRRR... maybe Catherine has a whole slew of fake accounts on FACE BOOK!!
  • Kim1524 (Fanfic Junkie)
    LOL

I wouldn't put it past her...

Also I can't help thinking she should be working with flying monkeys instead of bird kids, if you get my meaning!!
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
    LMAO!!! YES, totally hear ya!
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
ugh! why is everyone on FB sooo nice? I want to smack some sense into them.

speaking of FB, one of my friends from Maryland left me the FUNNIEST post ever this morning:

"It thunderstormed really bad here last night- the Cullen's were playing baseball!!"

    LMAO
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
    HA! Excellent post!!!!

I don't know about their niceties.... I really want to start yelling at them...
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
maybe they are part of the 'night crew' ?? the one's that just don't know any better, and are so sleep deprived they can't think correctly.
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
    I think you're right!
Freaking sleep deprived doh doh heads.

    *shakes head*

maybe we should send them some big pots of coffee as we're signing off at night.
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
    *gets out pen and pad*

    *thinks to myself*

hmm. coffee, and lot's of it!
  • 30yearoldtwifan "Team Slade"
I agree, and I think Chris was hinting to how CH messed Twilight up. I mean you cant just run with things, its not hard there's a book to go by. I don't know who to blame though, also the WRITER needs to write the script as close to the book as possible also.
  • mschicklet
Agreed. Rosenberg, are you reading this and other threads?? We point fingers at YOU! :)
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
I think they all speak to us in code! They can't officially diss the woman, so they say things in hopes that we'll understand the screw up that she is....

    And oh.... we understand!!!!
  • RobIsMyHeroin
    I COMPLETELY agree!
  • ♥LoveThemCullenBoys ♥s Edward♥
Oh that was a great interview... The man totally gets the book, the characters and the mood of the story... I mean

my god when Jacob phased in the trailor....that was Amazing!! .... seriously... Wow!

    Yes Weitz for Breaking Dawn!!!!
  • ancha85
We need to start a petition!!
  • Yeah, a new post!
Very, very nice! I'm so glad he decided to do away with the awful chalky blue pallor we saw in Twilight. The colors this time around are richer and more striking. It looks more professional and does amazing things to the cast. The vamps don't look too pale and fake, but just enough to where you know they're pale but its not overdone. The same thing goes for the make-up this time around. No lipstick and nasty powdered faces. In the trailer, Laurent's skin not only had a more olive tone to it. And his eyes, they scared the crap out of me!
  • I know there are many critical points in Twilight the movie but I am sorry, even though it is not perfectly done I still love it. Maybe it's b/c of the books that I love in the first hand or due to the amazing cast....

I called in sick to work today cuz I am realllyyyy sick... I lay down on my big sofa, put on the DVD and I am at this moment watching Twilight...like 100 time this week. It's easier when my husband isn’t home so nobody is here to judge me and make fun of my Twilight obssesion:)
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
LOL - I'm glad I'm not the only one that watches it ALL the time!
My hubby finally stopped asking "what are you watching"...he automatically assumes now! LOL
  • i_like_em_sparkly (Sparkly)
    GOOD MORNING SPUNK!
    LOL
You think that's bad...I have Twilight in my bedroom DVD player and I turn it on every night so I can watch it while I fall asleep. My hubby won't come to bed til it's over (GOOD!) and if my kids want to lie down with me I say
    "fine but I'm watching Twilight"!
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
    Good Morning Sparkly!!!!!

That's a good way to get the family to leave you alone huh? That's what I do - I tell them I'm watching Twilight and they sigh and leave the room!!!! LOL

hmmm.....A little Edward/Rob to fall asleep too...sounds like a night of unicorns and cookies.

**running now to put Twilight in the bedroom DVD player for tonight**
  • LOL LOL

You r not alone...I also have it in my DVD whole time, my hubby is afraid to take it out. So it is so easy, just pres play when ever I feel for it (many times a week) and enjoy....
  • I don’t know what’s wrong with me?!?! I usually can’t watch a movie more than once, but this one… I must be nuts… I had a similar obsession with LOTR, but this one is making me psycho! I am currently watching “SO the lion fell in love with a lamb….” scene and I am melting:)

You R not alone, there are plenty of us married, grown up women that secretly fantasies about be bitten by an Edward:)
  • crazy4cullens*RollingRockRob
My guy actually sat down & watched it with me once just to see what the hell I'm so obsessed with!!
  • And what was his comment after that?
  • crazy4cullens*RollingRockRob
He was actually very respectful during the whole movie and didn't say anything afterwards. But when we watched the New Moon trailer I squealed saying that I think this one is going to be so much better and he sarcastically said *Nooo, how is that even possible, Twilight was suuuuch a good movie*

Eh what does he know. He's just jealous of Rob's gorgeousness.
  • Well I am sure he is obsessed with something you can make fun of him...

My hubby is totally into Formula1, I mean TOTALLY... I once asked him if he would choose me naked and completed devoted or his Plasma TV and Formula1... he... lets just say he acted like team Switzerland... Neutral, avoiding to answer… And I usually make fun of his obsession…
  • Aloha - Scooby Doo
Hey, a little off subject here, Lolla, but, my husband met Jenson Button and Chris Buncombe this past winter. Our company rents high-end homes to vacationers and they rented one of our Villas for a couple of weeks. My husband checked them and their girlfriends in when they arrived and serviced them during their stay. He said they were super- nice.

Now my husband keeps an eye on Formula 1 to follow Jenson... and he's doing great now, non?

Good luck with Mr. Switzerland! :-)))
  • Ah Button.. the only thing I know about him is that he is H-O-T!!! And I like fast cars and also the sound of theme:) That’s about it for me with F1…

Soon you’ll be also listening to F1 car sound every second weekend and yelling at your man… My luck is out; it is too late for me now. My hubby used to drive F3 when he was younger before he met me so that’s something I have to live with…
  • Aloha - Scooby Doo
    NOOOOooooooo!

Actually, I'm lucky that I've bitten my husband with the Twilight bug. He's not a fan-atic like me but I he's into it.

Yes, both boys were hot, and they're girlfriends were like models. They are like rock stars in the driving world. Your husband would appreciate that!

BTW, I like your avatar. Did you draw/paint that?
  • Your husband is bitten?!?!? How? When? HOW?

They R rock stars and swimming in cash!!!

Thanks…I just did the drawing, like 30 minutes ago and I am actually proud, it aint no masterpiece but good for an amateur…
  • Aloha - Scooby Doo
You are brilliant!! Very well done and captures the vamp well. Good job.
    :-)

Ahh, after so many years of marriage, I know just how to handle my husband.
SMALL DOSES, BABY! I'd say little snippets here and there about the books
to tease his interest, then I bought the dvd when it came out and suggested
that he watch it with me. As much as I wanted to comment on the scenes, I
KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT!! Key. At the end he said, "that was better than I
expected. I guess I should read the book." ***eyes snap open***

By now, he's seen Twilight, finished New Moon, and into Eclipse. We have
fun talking about it but I still don't go all ga-ga on him. Sunday I
treated him to romantic dinner for his birthday and we ended up discussing
the series half the time! He wanted to go home and watch Twilight again!!!
    Who's birthday WAS it?

The other day we were shopping and I heard him tell the salesman that he
looked like Jacob!! He'll talk about it to anyone!!! It's a gas.

And oh, it doesn't hurt that he has something to talk about now with his 16
    year-old favorite niece.

    LOL and having fun!!
  • HAHAHA we will not discriminate you, don’t you ever think of that! Everybody is welcome to join our Twilight craziness My purpose with the age question was to see in which age group he is in, my is 30 years old and has become more softer now A couple of years and I bet he will be bitten, for now it is all about James Bond, Wolverine and bang bang movies for him so far…
  • Dear Lord you R my HERO! Nice tips..take it slow, dont throw it out there like a LOOPY person...and than slowly he'll be bitten....

BTW how old is your husband if you mind me asking??
  • Aloha - Scooby Doo
HA HA HA HA !!! You can ask, but I won't tell. :-)) I've been following
the posters here and let's just say that I'm older than a lot of you out
there, and my husband's older than me.

That's why I love nmm.org, keeps me young and laughing!!! :-D xoxoxoxo
  • HAHAHA we will not discriminate you, don’t you ever think of that! • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
My hubby watched it once and he said that was enough for him!! LOL

He has no idea how I can watch it over and over....

I told him to get prepared because New Moon when it comes out is going to be 100 times worse!!! LOL
  • My brother agreed last night to go and see the premiere of New Moon with me b/c nobody was up for that:((( My husband hates vamp movies b/c he is scared!!! ahha.... He thinks that Twilight is all about blood and killing.. He just doesn’t get it... Once he mentioned he wanted to watch it, but I refused cuz I knew if he teased me now he would make fun of me after watching the movie...

But I have at least one guy on my side, that is my 23 year old brother that actually enjoyed the movie… YEEAHHH
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
I told my hubby I wanted to go by myself...I didn't want him watching me the whole time laughing at me. I know I'll be crying, yelling and then screaming from the scenes in Italy....shirtless Rob sparkling!!! AHHHHH!!!!....then crying again! LOL
  • EdwardForever
I'm definitely going to see it by myself. I haven't had the guts yet to tell my husband - he's really starting to hate all things Twilight. If he only realized the benefits he's been getting from me reading all the fanfict maybe he'd be a bit more tolerant...silly boy.
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
LOL - I've told my hubby already...I'm going by myself and I'm watching it again and again until I think I've had enuff....or they kick me out.
I told him not to expect to see me much on Nov 20th!!!!

I know right??? - there are a lot of "benefits" from reading fan fic!! He gets mad cuz I read ALL the time then I remind him..."I don't hear you complaining now"!!!!
    LMAO!!!!
  • ♥LoveThemCullenBoys ♥s Edward♥
LMAO!! That's what I told my husband... I'm going by myself to

watch it and as many times that I want to watch it. Oh and he thought

I watched Twilight too much..HA! that's nothing compared to the

FanFiction I'm reading on the side... I put it to him in football terms..

reading my Twilight series books and FanFiction is like pre-season

football games and well the movies are like my Superbowl. You get

    it now hubby? LMAO!!
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
    LMAO - that's a good one!!!!

I was serious when I told him I'm watching it on 11/20 and when the movie is over I'm either going to hide in the bathroom and go back again or pay to watch it again....I got no problem paying to see it esp since I want it to do good on it's first weekend.
The first time I see it I'm pretty sure I'll be in shock so I have to watch it again to comprehend what I seen the first time! LOL
Then the 3rd or 4th time will be just bcuz I wanna see it again! LOL

"Off to watch the super bowl about 5 times sweetie...see ya later...I'll call you at half time to let you know how it's going" LMAO!!!
  • RobIsMyHeroin
This is me....and my husband to a tee! It's gotten to the point that if I start talking he looks at me and says "this isn't Twilight related is it?" :) But, he gets the benefits of fanfic....so I don't wanna hear no complainin'!
  • OH S**** I did not think about that... I have usually no difficulties at all to cry, but at movies, in public!!! OK everyone that is watching the movie on the premiere night is a devoted fan like me, so I don’t think that I'll be the only one but still.... I haven’t met anyone here in Sweden that is a big fan:(((

How many boxes of Kleenex R you going to have with your self??
  • Spunk Ransom "Spunkie"
Oh I've already started stocking up on them by the cases!!!

Well it's a good thing you have this site since you cant find a fan in Sweden! LOL
  • Amen to that.. I LOVE NMM.org!!!

I have to thank God for internet, nmm.org, Twilight saga and Robert Pattinson:)))
  • crazy4cullens*RollingRockRob
That's so sad you don't have fellow fans in Sweden to go with. If you want you can come see it with me & my girlfriends :)
  • Where do you live??
  • covered_in_feathers
My husband watched it with me a couple times but it wasnt by choice....LOL!! Now he just says " your not sick of watching that movie yet" If he only knew..........
  • mschicklet
Of course we all love Twilight the movie. We're just saying they could have done a lot of things different (read: better). And since they're given that opportunity with the sequels, we hope they don't screw it up. That's all :)
  • I totally agree with you to 110%! Even now when I am watching Twilight for like a millionth time, I am still arguing in my silence how it could have been done better. It’s kind of too late now thinking about it.

I just wanted to say that I am grateful that the movie has been made and I am so excited about the cast cuz I think that they r just perfect. Even though there are many things that just irritate me with Catharine’s view of Twilight I am still glad that the movie was made and that it is such a huge success due to first of all us wonderful fans.
  • RobIsMyHeroin
I'm the same. I am VERY gratefull it was made. I just kinda wish we could have a "redo" with CW directing! :)
  • Last night, my dad saw me on this website again. And then all of a sudden, the whole family just started yelling and making-fun of me. It was awful! They just don't understand why I love Twilight so much. They were saying I had serious issues and all these other rude comments that were very hurtful, all just because I really like a book series. Anyway, I thought I'd share my sad experience so I could get some support from my Twilight family. :)
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
oh, you poor thing :0( very sorry to hear that, but you have all of us as a support group!

my friends and family love to tease me, but at the same time- they all can respect that i've found something that i am interested in, and passionate about. So, although they don't agree with me, they respect my obsession.

be loud and proud- i tell people i'm on this all the time, but i'm so confident when i say it that no one really has the gall to make fun too much.

your Twilight family loves you! and tell your whole family that at least you're not completely obsessed over something really stupid- like the Green Bay Packers or something. LOL
  • Awww...
    *hugs*
I love ya too! Green Bay Packers...lol!
Yeah, well, I'll just have to tell them straight up to leave me alone and that it's not a big deal...and perhaps rent the apartment I've been looking at. :)
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
LOL. I moved out and my parents don't bother me at all about Twilight. Actually, they never did. They thought I was super smart reading such thick books, haha!
  • LMAO!
I know, when I was finished reading all four books in less than a week, my brothers were truly amazed! :)
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
exactly! I tell my friends not to judge until they've read the book. since they all refuse to read the book- I win by default! LOL
  • AWEsome! I'm in the process of having a couple of my friends read Twilight. It's only a matter of time before they become obsessed as well. haha :) They won't make another negative comment about it again.
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
i actually convinced my roommate to read them, and she just finished New Moon last night. I'm SO excited for her!

As of right now, she's Team Jacob (oh the shame). I told her that after she reads BD, she can fully decide on a team.
  • mschicklet
@ RobismyRomeo: I'm sure that after she reads Eclipse, she'll turn Team Edward.

Jacob's actions in Eclipse were APPALLING to me. I love Jacob but geeeeeeeeeeeez
  • Not the dark side!!! haha, I'm sure your roommate will change her mind by the end of the saga. Team Edward all the way! :)
  • mschicklet
Mostly people bash what they don't understand. Plus, as I've said before, I think hating Twilight is the "in" thing to do.... people think it makes them look cool. But mostly, it's easy to insult the unfamiliar.

Although I don't understand why people would be yelling at you over that though. Unless you were trying to force it on them, which you probably weren't.
  • Thanks for the support!! Well, it's not like they were screaming or anything, they just were all talking at the same time about the same thing (my obsession ) and it was very loud and very annoying. ANyway, you're right, they don't understand. It was just that they think I should be doing more around the house and things like that instead of reading the books again, etc. This happens every time I squeal when I watch the trailer too. haha, guess its time to get that apartment I've been looking at...
  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
    @mschicket's comment above

I hope my roommate changes teams! I think we all felt bad for Jacob in New Moon- but the way he acted in Eclipse and for the greater part of Breaking Dawn? You said it- appalling!
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
cjean you tell your family you have a whole other family here, and we will "kick EVERYONE's a$$ in the room" (shout out to Peter F!) if they don't BACK OFF!
  • Awww, thank you flplmtree95!
*calling family over to meet my new friends*
*flplmtree95 and others kick family against the window, shattering glass*
...I think I just had a fight scene flashback from Twilight...I need to go back to bed. :)
Anyway, no fight needed, I know you all are here and that makes me feel better.
    *happy tears*
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
I think our enormous amount of intimidation will help avoid any fights anyway... :D

At least you can rest assured, you are not the only one people look at like you're insane.....

I'm still wearing the "Penguins. Lovely" t-shirt I wore to bed last night... >:D
  • LMAO! I love that line in the book. You can just picture Edward's face when he says it,too funny.
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
Me too! People say (and granted, these are crazy people) to me that he is very 2 dimentional.... I have WTF moments all the time when they say that, b/c I can TOTALLY see the growth of his character from when she meets him in Twilight, all the way to Eclipse....
  • What the heck!?! Edward is amazing! Two-dimensional? There is alot to his character. Alot of the time, he surprised me. Like when he decided to let Bella see Jacob whenever she wanted...I was not expecting that. He's a complex character cause his emotions and feelings are always pulling each other in opposite directions. Of course, you know this..:)
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
I know I love that part, he took a big leap of faith, not in his character before that.... I wanted to cry he was being so selfless.
  • I couldn't reply to the last one, but yes, he is so selfless. I love him.
    *girly giggle*
Ah crap, I have to go take my final, see ya in an hour!
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
I know, we ran out of reply post room.... DANG IT! GOOD LUCK ON THE FINAL!
  • rpattzgirl
Hang in there cjean..I go through the same thing all the time from my own kids-they make fun of me, made rude comments & snide remarks all the time. I don't give a crap what they think. My room is a shrine to Rob & twilight as well and if people don't like it, well, they can stay the heck out of my room!
Yeah for New Moon & CW-I think this movie will rock!
  • Thanks Rpattzgirl. I know, I don't really care what they say. They just need to leave me alone, it's really none of their business! And yes, Chris will be and is amazing! I thought the trailer for NM was better than the whole entire Twilight movie! :)
  • breesmom
So sorry to hear of your family's insensitive remarks about your interest in Twilight. I know that it's hard when you're learning to develope your own interests and to live life on your own terms. Good luck to you as you find your own path.

Most of us have been there. The rest will be there soon.

Don't let narrow minds get to you.
  • Thanks so much Breesmom. I know, I shouldn't care what they think It's just frustrating because I'm 20 yrs old, and you would think they would realize that I'm obviously old enough to choose what I like and what I don't. Ah well, and thanks for the good advice, you're a sweetie. :)
  • Majnona (H.N)
I loved his answers! He seems to understand the books very well .
  • CF911 Team Tyler!
How can we start a petition to Summit to have Chris do Breaking Dawn? There has to be some way to let them know that he is who we want for that movie. I am all in.

As for Slade, I loved 30 Days of Night and I can't remember what other movie he did. I think that he will be fine. But Chris is doing such a good job that Slade is making us all nervous. I think that if Slade truly despised the series, that he would not have signed on to direct.

    CHRIS FOR BD!!!!!!
  • mschicklet
I agree that if he despised the series, he probably wouldn't have signed on.

I didn't like 30 Days of Night but to each his own. Honestly I don't usually like horror movies (yes it was considered a horror movie).

The other well-known movie he did was Hard Candy. Good movie, but I just don't want the Twilight movies to look like 30 Days and HC. Totally different movies that deserve totally different treatment, IMO.
  • CF911 Team Tyler!
Oh, yeah, 30DN was definitely a horror movie. But Twilight is completely different. But his visuals and cinematography in that movie was great, so I think he will do a good job, especially since there are fight scenes in Eclipse.

And Hard Candy was an excellent film. I have high hopes for him.
  • XeniaCullen
I'm really looking forward to watching New Moon!
  • OMG I can't wait. Just from the trailer film looks like it is gonna surpass Twilight lets hope it lives up 2 the hype. Well anything with Rob in I will think is brilliant anyway so no worries lol
  • Marissa1
Love this man and he is getting sexier by the minute.

I too hope he may come back to direct Breaking Dawn,(fingers crossed).

Stephen King, GREAT writer, but totally out of touch with what women want.
He is an older man who has a really bizarre view of the world and he should not
be commenting negatively on these books. Stick to what you know Steven, lol!
  • I agree with everything you guys already said!
CHRIS is AWESOME and I'm really sure New Moon will look gorgeous! He's amazing!

To add something else: HE'S TOTALLY HOT, I saw him in Italy and all I can say is that he has awesome shoulders and butt LOL Plus a sexy, deep voice: just perfect!

Ps. I see almost everyone wants him back for BD so uhm JOIN THESE 2 GROUPS ON FACEBOOK to show him our support!

  • 4thewolf

    *stops in shock*

OMG, I"m so sorry!! I said I was going to be nice, didn't I???

    *hits own hand*

  • RobismyRomeo (RIMR_)
    *huge sigh of relief*

    ah, yes. much better!
  • PhoenixMP3 ~ Mrs. Cudmore
    Well Done flplmtree95!

I love it love it love! The man is a quiet genious! He sooo gets it! Yey I can't wait.

  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)

  • PhoenixMP3 ~ Mrs. Cudmore
yep thundering away merilly. I'm going to look for vamps see if I find any.....
  • twimomsrule
LOL 14 year old teenage girls attacking him!!!!! SOOOOOO true!! I think Chris should be brought back for BD !!!!! He seems to get it!!! Not his vision but Stephs and the fans of the book!!!! I can't tell you how mad I was when I saw twilight the movie!! I just finished reading twilight the book for like the fourth time and I was so mad reading the book that the movie was so WRONG!!!!! they left so much OUT!!!!!
  • 30yearoldtwifan "Team Slade"
IMO Im going to wait to see the hole movie before I go jumping into bringing him back for BD. That's my favorite one and the director needs to have a lot of passion in every aspect.
  • 4thewolf
This interview just gave me such another positive boost of hope for New Moon. The man obviously (either because he is brilliant or because he is smart enough to be afraid of hordes or 14 yr. old (and older) girls hunting him down) is obviously really thinking things through to bring the essence of the characters and book out and putting everything he has into this movie.
And I love how he gets all cheeky with Stephen King and then adds at the end that he respectfully disagrees with the fact that there is no emotion..
    LOve the guy!!!!
*goes to write expansive love letter to Chris Weitz and buy him another scarf*
    lol
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
I laughed so hard when I read the part about him saying he was afraid of the 14 year olds..... he knows NOTHING of vengance till he experiences US.
  • 4thewolf
Seriously, forget the 14 yr. olds. I have had many more years to consider methods of torture for those who invoke my wrath.

    lol
  • FL95 (Team Unicorn)
Yes, we are much more creative than just screaming at the top of our lungs and crying... LOL!
  • 30yearoldtwifan "Team Slade"
    So True!!
  • 4thewolf
*takes out MRs screenplay recorded and put on repeat*

    Mental torture as well...

    lol
  • 30yearoldtwifan "Team Slade"
The 14 year old comment was so right on Chris! Don'T forget about US older fans, there are a lot of us to! and like 4 the wolf said we have more experience with torture LOL
  • twiromantic
i'm so so so so excited for new moon! i don't know if i can wait another couple of months! eek!
  • nomesters
I really really REALLY respect Chris Weitz. One of the problems I had with Catherine, aside from the way she made Twilight into a movie, was the way she talked about the characters and their emotions. I just never felt like she really understood them, or at least, she wasn't able to express it clearly in words.
With Chris, I really feel like he gets it, and I feel like he is trying extremely hard to make the best movie as possible, that stays true to the characters, emotion and feeling of the book. Of course I have to wait until I walk out of the theater after seeing it to really make a decision, but I know for certain that I respect the guy tremendously. I am glad he is part of this project, and let's just hope David Slade lives up to him.
  • JustMija
I have always liked Chris Weitz...I especially liked the Golden Compass. I was disappointed when he wasn't given the chance to do the squeals to the movie also. I'm glad Summit picked him to direct New Moon...His CGI work in Golden Compass was AWSOME< COLORFUL!

I do have to say when they showed the trailer for New Moon on MTV Music Awards I was very excited, pleased with just what they showed. To me Chris has caught every emotion that Bella ( Kristen ) is going to go through while Edward ( Robert ) is gone. The Birthday scene is going to be exciting, the medow scene with Laurent ( Edi ) is going to be awsome! I never doubted Chris would botch New Moon.

I do have to say I'm going to give David Slade a chance, I've only watch 30 Days of Night, to me it was very good. I will just sit back and wait & watchseewhat he has to offer towards the Twilight Saga. Eclipse action, drama, etc book. So I'll wait and see.
  • Katrina
he better not make it like freakin dr. zhivago!

i'd rather have iron man than that crap!
  • i like the "jewel-like colors" idea already.
  • mschicklet
As I've said before, I like Chris Weitz. I think he's going to make New Moon a great movie. But you know.... reading that interview over again, his line about 14 year old girls chasing him if he screws up is really irking me.

I hate that stereotype that all Twi fans are teenage girls. WE'RE NOT! Lose the stereotype, PLEASE!!
  • eva6kora
    I so agree!
  • pamloves
    i so agree. im 21
  • pastiche
he gets it! he totally gets it, unlike that druggie catherine hardwitch. man i respect him even more!
  • bizarrely moral vampire
HE NEEDS TO COME BACK FOR BD!!
I love the way he speaks of the movie. You can tell he really truly is passionate about it and that's wonderful. It means he cares a lot about bringing the story to life and staying as true as possible. I love that he said this is about the story and the people that care about it, not about a director coming in and doing his take on things. THat's great!
Every time I hear stuff like this it makes me more Excited!!
    ahhh I can't wait!
  • TheLionFellIn<3W/Ceci-ROBECI
WOW!! I think I LOVE Chris!!!! The way he DESCRIBED all of that in such detail... OME!!! WOW... I can't wait to see NM already!! OME.... he's awesome.... I have so much trust and respect in him, I wish he wouldn't have to leave us!!! Please, come back for BD... PLEASE!!!!!!!
    He's amazing!!!
  • RealMenGlitter
I really think he gets it. Of course proof of that will have to come in November but I have very high hopes for him. I think its funny people already want him for BD...we havent seen the movie yet lol! I have high hopes for Slade too. Im rereading Eclipse right now and it takes on such a different plot. I think he will handle the action scenes extraordinarily well

    Slade bring on the newborns
  • JustMija
I really have to agree with everyone saying that Chris Weitz needs to come back for Breaking Dawn. He would do Breaking Dawn so much justice! He get's the WHOLE CONCEPT of New Moon....and I bet anything he would bring Breaking Dawn to life just like he is going to bring New Moon to life. I seriously hope they bring him back on board for director of Breaking Dawn....He understands the fan concerns, and notices Twilight Saga isn't just for teens. It's for every age group both male & female!
  • pamloves
i agree with you on this. cw needs to come back for BD.
  • CullenWannabe
I love this interview. He really sounds like he knows what he needs to do to bring a great book to life on the big screen and to try to stay as true to the book as possible. And from that 90 seconds of trailer we've seen, I really like what he's doing. Even though I'm going to hate the sad parts in this movie, I'm really excited to see it. Bring on November!

And I agree with what others have said about bringing Chris back. If he does a great job w/NM (which I'm thinking he is) they really should bring him back for BD. I hope Summit is listening to us fans!
  • Meesha
Chris is awesome. It just goes to show that he really paid much attention to the details of what new moon needed and what twilight didn't have. i can't wait to see new moon and i really hope that he'll be back for breaking dawn.
  • i wonder why they are changing directors every movie????

    chris is really great
  • brians mom
i know its not possible but, i wish that twilight the movie could have been done over by another director. movie could have been better. i'm liking this chris weitz a lot.
  • Aloha - Scooby Doo
Great article. Chris' vision is inspiring.
I'm getting more excited about New Moon.
    Yay!!!
  • Aloha - Scooby Doo
Oh Oh Oh!!!! Aloha that was brilliant! What an awesome, insightful post!!! Way to go girl!! Keep them coming!!! Can't wait for your next GEM!!!
    LOL
  • Aloha - Scooby Doo
    Sh*t, blew it. I'll practice!!!
    hehehe
  • asdfghjkl
aw he looks like dennis quaid :) lol
  • pamloves
can summit bring CW back for BD when they know they are going to start filming. i am not going to judge what DS does he might understand twilgiht fans and may give it justice. who knows they haven't even started filming eclipse yet. maybe CW can help with post production.
i am so glad that he saw it this way and not some others.
cw- And I read the book and I thought I saw my way of making a good version of the book. It’s really a question of whether I can do justice to the book and to please the readers. That’s my job. It’s not to run away with it and just do my version of things. It’s to be faithful to their experience of reading it.
i am glad he is using the book as a bible and not the screenplay. sometimes they use the screenplay as a bible.
i am glad he knows there are people who are older then 20 years who read the books. i am not a teen.
i have read the whole interview and i am glad he directed NM. now if only he will come back for BD and hopefully he can help produce Eclipse. but BD is my favorite out of them all.
