but I think most of the French persons on this website will agree with me when I say that, when we are used to hearing the English voices, it's absolutely awful for us to watch the movie in French ! (or any movie, for that matter)

I'll try to find a theater that will show the movie in english with subtitles (but I'm not counting to much on that unfortunately ...) , because otherwise, I'm gonna spend the whole movie thinking "Duh, their voices are so wrooong !"

Though, I'm thrilled we get to see the movie two days earlier than you :p, at least we have THIS advantage ! :) (sorry guys, when it comes to Twilight I'm a bit selfish :p)

I totally agree. The voices are wrong and I don't know but the tone sounds flat, emotionless. But it's just because I'm now used to these actors' real voices, it didn't bother me when I saw Twilight before I knew any of them. I wish I could watch it in English too but I'm more than fine to watch it in French if it means I'll get to see it 2 days earlier ;) Guess you can't have everything...

And to whoever was wondering why France gets to see it earlier. I think that's because this time, it'll be an international release or something like that and we'll see it the week it is released in the USA. The difference being that in France movies are released on Wednesday, not Fridays. I remember it happened for Pirates of the Carabean too and I was hoping it'd happen for NM. So i'm so glad. And it makes up for Twilight being released almost 2 months later here.

I totally agree ! I have to say, it's been a while since I watched a movie in french because 1) I wanted to improve my english and 2) i really don't like the voices in french (je sais pas trop comment on dit doublage en anglais...).
Mais même s'il sort deux jours avant, il sera en vf et en vost j'en suis sûre maintenant (presque) tous les films sortent dans les deux versions. I agree about the tone and that's why I HATE watching English language movies in French... I'm 100% French-Canadian, vive le Québec! lol but I swear I cannot stand it!! French is just like Spanish for people who don't speak it; it sounds sexy, but there's nothing sexy here in this translation... I hate seeing the lips moving and mouthing the English words and then the French you hear... it really annoys me... I think it kills a bit the vibe the actors (who, I think everyone agrees, are amazing) set in the movies... Anyways, all this to say that it's more distracting than anything else and really not nice for French speaking people who are fluent in English to watch it in French...

I get what you mean. But I don't know how it is in Québec but I guess, since Canada is mostly an English speaking country a majority of people living over there are totally fluent in English. That's absolutely not how it is here in France. Sure children and students do learn English but very few are fluent. And I'm pretty sure not even 10% of the population would be able to understand a movie in English without subtitles. So I can tell you that movies dubbed in French are not even close to disappear any time soon.

the one thing i like about our polish cinematography other that Roman Polanski and Agnieszka Holland is:
that we don't have dubbing in motion pictures other than cartoons (and HSM...) we've got SUBTITLES.

(and in some cartoons our polish actors are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better in voiceovers than the original ones ex. Shrek- a certain british showman, who lives in Poland about 12 years said that the original Shrek can't stand a candle to what we polish folk have done with it)

And even if french is a beautiful language, it just looks wierd seeing the cast mouth something different than we hear.
But it is amazing to hear the command 'Kiss me' from Bella's lips in french. Sigh...even if it's not a french kiss....

Yep, I know where you're coming from, even that I'm not French my self. I'm so happy they don't dub movies or shows here in Finland (like in many other European countries they do), thank God! It sounds soooo horrible! They only dub cartoons etc. I once saw few episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful dubbed in Finnish and it sounded just terrible!!! LOL It was enough for the rest of my life..

But I think French is the most beautiful European language :) And that trailer sounded kinda sexy!

I find in french you can't express yourself in words as much as you can in english. It usually takes a whole paragraph while in english it's one sentence.!

I think that's the case in a lot of languages. In college, a lot of my friends wanted to translate spanish songs (los lonely boys was very popular at the time).. and I told them that some songs just can't be translated- the english language wouldn't give the song justice. to translate it would literally take away from the meaning.

I'm from Belgium and I hate the French version, they've added things "je m'en vais"for example and the scene when bella asks him to kiss her is...so childish! :p And for twilight we get the French Canadian version in Belgium!

ehhh it was ok. it didn't do anything for me. i would rather hear the real voices.
all i know is that it would get annoying watching that seeing how the lips don't match. i would spend more time watching their mouths than anything else.

Honestly we usually don't realise the liips don't match when we watch a movie dubbed in French, it's not that obvious (unless the movie is sooo boring you have nothing else to concentrate on lol or unless you've already seen it and know by heart what is really said). What is the most obvious usually are the typical English "th" sounds where you can see the actor's tongue slip out of their mouth since we don't have that in French lol. And since most of people are not totally fluent in English, it's much easier to watch a movie in your own language even if the lips do not match, than watch it with subtitles that you have to read and make you miss some subtle actions (like looks for example).
But I guess one way or another it's just a question of what you're used to.

The worst thing when watching a movie that is dubbed is that the voices sound wrong when you know the actors' real voices. Which doesn't happen with every actor, it's usually a few selected one that you love. And that'll definitely happen for me with NM :( But there's still the DVD later on to watch it over and over with the real voices ;)

since you are french, when you watch the english version do you understand what they are saying completely? like i know how over here we take french of spanish in school but we still have to think about what it means in english. just wondering if that is hard for you too?

Well... I've been watching some movies and mostly tv shows in english for quite some time now so it gets easier and easier to understand what they are saying. But I do'nt understand every single line, so that's when the subtiles come handy ;) Or I just listen to the line again until I get it.

And no I don't have to think about what it means in French. But that's also because I read lots of fanfics or books in English so I'm used to read and kinda "think" in English without having to litterally translate into French anymore. I just get what is said without having to transcribe it in my own language. I guess it's a question of practice.
But reading in English is very easy, listening to a movie/interview in English or wrting in English is more difficult but the worst is when I have to speak English (which actually almost never happens) since the accent and pronouciation are sooo different than in French. But of course, that's just me, some French people here may disagree ;)

No it doesn't. It means "Chapter 2 - Temptation".
I don't know the other titles since I read the books in English but they have nothing to do with the English titles.

ETA: I just checked. Twilight is "Chapter 1: Fascination", Eclipse is "Chapter 3: Hesitation" and BD is "Chapter 4: Revelation"
I like the English titles much more, they fit so perfectly.

I think I prefer the French titles only because they are packaged differently.

The French version has all four books under the title of TWILIGHT, and then the "Chapitre" 1, 2, 3, 4 based on which book it is in the series. And I also think that the name translations are also fitting without being literally taken from the book.

I just think this trailer is not that bad... in French ! The books were definitely very badly translated (couldn't read them in French) and the first movie "Twilight" was not that well dubbed either ! But still, we - French - have the opportunity to watch it in English. Although it's quite hard to find a theater where it's played in its original version... Too bad they also changed the titles !
And I agree with you guys when saying the French voice is sexy but watching with lips moving and saying something else is quite annoying (not watching the lips I mean...). And you guys should hear Jacob's French voice ^^

I'm French, and I understand that you don't like the French voices. In my opinon I prefer heard the trailer in your language, I don't understand everything but the principal yes... It can be strange for a French but I love your language.
