I've seen this movie Speak mentioned a bunch of times.. but never heard of it. What is it?

Speak is based on a book about a young high school girl who starts the school year as an outcast with no friends. But you learn later on that something bad happened at a party that previous summer and now no one will have anything to do with her. She will not come forward and tell anyone what really happened because she is afraid to. Kristen is amazing in the role. It is an unbelievable movie. It is low budget, but really good.

And for those of you saying Kristen is not a good actress because of her mannerisms. A lot of actors and actresses that are known to be excellent have the same mannerisms in every movie they are in. I think that a lot of you are judging her on Twilight alone. I do not see how any of you could say that she stunk in Speak, The Cake Eaters, Panic Room or Into the Wild. I also thought she did ok in The Messengers.

Twilight was not her best work, but I don't think that she should be judged on that. Kristen has a lot of potential and is going to be an amazing Joan Jett. Like I have said before there is a reason she was cast. So stop hating.

I watched the movie "Speak" and I think Kristen did an amazing job in that movie! Compared to Twilight, I think she was much better in "Speak", even tho I dont think she was bad in twilight either. I just wish she could have showed a bit more emotions in Twilight. Im looking forward to the "break-up scene" with Edward in New Moon, cause from what I've seen in the trailer, she looks great (as in actually really SAD and heartbroken).

Not all of us are basing it on Twilight. If you read some of the replies - some of us HAVE seen her other films and just don't care for them. None of us are just seeing Twilight - there are other films out there. No need 'to give her a break' - people either like her performance or they don't. That's what makes all of us unique is that we aren't always going to agree and jump on the bandwagon. We all see different things in actors/actresses and some like their performance and some don't. What a boring world would it be if we all agreed on the same things.

First of all, I didn't say that everyone is basing their opinions on Kristen's performance in Twilight and I am FAR from a bandwagon Kristen Stewart fan. I have been a fan of hers since she was in Panic Room, which was many many years ago.

I agree with you. Acting skills need great improvement. Actually, several actors from Twilight need to take a few classes. They could have picked so many other actresses to play Joan Jett. I think Elizabeth Banks or Rachel Adams would have been a better choice - but too late now. I have no desire to see the movie anyway. :-)

I got the chance and saw both films and hated them. Sorry. Hey, I'm a fan of a lot of actors and some have done some real bombs in my opinion. For example, I'm a huge fan of Hugh Jackman but hated Scoop and Deception. He's a great actor, but in my opinion he cannot pull of 'bad guy' characters. I don't find his performance believable. No one can have movies that are all 'great'. No one can be that perfect. Gotta be honest with yourself if you are a true fan. Kristen isn't pefect and will do films that many fans of hers will not like. Just because you're a huge fan doesn't mean you have to love every movie they do and you think their performance is always flawless. ;-) Also, if they are in a movie with some big time actors/actresses, that doesn't make them a great actor/actress. I've seen movies with not so big actors along side huge stars such as Al Pacino and the movie/acting were horrible. Just because you don't like a film that your favorite actor/actress is in doesn't mean you aren't a fan either. :-P

i believe she can act...i love that she's stepping out of the box and taking more challenging roles.. she's going to play a stripper in Welcome to the Rileys and now Joan Jett...one problem i had with her in the past was; i felt some of her movies were one sided; like she was playing a sex craze teen all the time..but i was wrong..yes the Cake Eaters; Into the wild was great...OMG..and don't get me started on Speak..she was so young when she made that and when people say she's unemotional as bella; i like to say; go see Speak and then u will change your mind.

.it's sometimes all in the directing..yes if a actor can act; the director can influence how they potray their role on film..the director might want them to do things a certain way differnet than they would do it..i highly think that CH directed twilight with poor taste thus making the actors look like they couldn't act.. even rob; i didn't think that was his best....look at the difference in NM..just a little clip of Laurent and bella in the meadow makes my heart jumps and i say; "now; thats some real effin acting"....so a director and also a script influences the acting ability of an actor sometimes.. i know many actors who suck in other movies..the great will smith suck in hancock; which i still like...but then he was brillant in the pursuit of happyness....even leonardo and others had movies they didn't do well in....

Phinecia, I 100% agree with you. I see the same mannerisms and facial expressions in many movies she's done. Somebody posted on another thread that Kristin picks characters that are more like her. (I'm not sure if she actually said that or not but if that's true it kinds defeats the purpose of acting doesn't it?) I think Rob really became the character of Edward, whereas Kristin made Bella become Kristin (case in point... wearing Converse at the prom). I think Joan Jett will be ruined too.

I do agree with you partly.. maybe I just didn't say my point very well. Maybe I should have said personality-wise.. her characters go through different things, obviously, according to the role.. but in general all of them (ie: Cake Eaters, Into the Wild, even Twilight) aren't overly happy, screaming, crying, laughing type roles. So, yeah, a lot of what she puts across crosses over into other movies because it has that same sort of tone. Though I do think she has some range.. it's just subtle. It just wasn't displayed well in Twilight at all. Now with New Moon, and especially Eclipse, she's a little more "outgoing" for lack of a better word with emotions.. crying, angry, etc. so we'll see how she handles that.

I don't particularly see anything wrong with keeping in a low tone.. she doesn't have to be over the top to be good. I'm not saying she was fantastic in Twilight, but she probably has a better grip on it now. I can appreciate all forms.. actors who go all out with the emotions are awesome, but I can appreciate subtle shifts in emotion. I think she did that particularly well in Cake Eaters.

Well it won't really matter, because Kristen has been wearing a wig as Bella in both Twilight and New moon (look at the pictures from filming and compare to her hair in private). If you look at her hair, it is a bit shorter in real life than Bellas. And Bella also has more volume and curls, so Kristen has been using a wig. I don't mind though, because it looks really good on her, really natural.

I too am excited to see her with a new cut and the fact that she is playing Joan makes the 2010 movie season something to look forward too. Her hair is a little light so I wonder when the dye job will happen. Joan had dark brown (almost black) looking hair and lots of black eyeliner. Kristen will be great in the role - good luck to her!

the minute that blanket was off my back i was MUCH cooler... and i was able to do dog agility last night without my hair getting in the way!!! it will grow back... but it will just take time.. i think it took about a year and 1/2 for my hair to grow back since the last cut... i cut almost as much off... it was the same length after being cut.. but my hair does seem to grow back fast..

I love it! I want to see it down...of course I'm a fan of shorter/shoulder length hair and didn't really care for her messy do before. I hope she likes it and she's just tired and not thinking, "I really hate this haircut!"

I just coincidentally watched a little movie called "In the Land of Women" last night, which has Adam Brody in it, but what I didn't know was that, it also had Kristen in it! She was REALLY GREAT, the movie was good (although I wasn't crazy about Meg Ryan in this one, too much work being done on that face)....

Anyway, Kristen, you're brilliant! Love you girlie.

I watched "Into the Wild" last month- and she's in that one, too! She actually helped write the song she sang in that movie- which was actually really good.

She played a young girl (15 or 16) trying to get with an older guy in that movie, too. LOL.

Oh wow, now I gotta find that one and watch it! I didn't know she sang in it! Sweet!

just watched into the wild last night! amazing movie - long and kristen is only in it for a little bit but i loved when she sang! she's so cute! i can see why rob would want to work with her after he saw that movie (apparently he's said that in an interview)

i thought she did a great job of trying to semi-seduce the main character. PS- the ending was very upsetting!

yes! when she's on the bed in the trailer i was totally thinking of how that was just like in twilight (on a bed in her undies) haha. the ending was so sad, i couldn't watch most of it b/c it was disturbing me. everyone should see the movie! i love the wisdom that shines through in this movie!

Before everyone starts freaking out (maybe I'm too late), Kristen wore hair extensions for both Twilight and New Moon. This was so that they wouldn't have to keep fussing with her natural hair in between takes. Just made it easier on everyone. Her hair will look fine in Eclipse. Relax.

She most definitely has gotten Hair Extensions for both films and she will do the same for Eclipse. No need for wigs, extensions are like the real thing.

Come on peope! You act as though she shaved her head. I've seen women with hair much shorter than that. Besides, some people look gorgeous with short hair (e.g. Halle Berry) and some don't. It's obvious that she's very self-conscious or embarrased about her hair. You can tell by the way she's hanging her head and her face is red. Hey Kristen...it will grow back! You can't wear a wig for every movie you do - sometimes you need to get into character. Joan Jett did smoke (not sure if she does now), so Kristen doesn't need to be worried about that.

Just wanted to say that I think it's so great to see all the positive response from everyone (well almost everyone) here regarding Kristen!! I really like her and I think she's really cool and perfect as Bella! I also saw Speak a few weeks ago, and man she was great in that!!!
Anyway, I really like that everyone is so supportive of her! Also, I really hope we get to see some pics soon with her reunited with Rob, would be sooo cute! But I guess that won't happen anytime soon as they are both ready to start filming anyday now. Oh well, guess we have to wait until August.
