Okay, whether this is a joke or not, there is some truth to it. It's not the sole reason for evil in this world at the moment. But it could be contributing. I was sucked into Twilight a year ago and I was obsessed. I was getting into the whole vampire thing and thinking it's sexy to drink blood, etc. But I soon felt very cold and dark. I felt quite evil... So I pulled myself out of it. And now I'm working to get closer to the Lord God. I feel much healthier and lighter now. Twilight is actually a positive uplifting story about vampires, so I do not get the whole negative impact on kids thing. All of the Cullens have been turned into this thing that they despise in one way or the other, but choose to make the best out of the situation and live the best life possible. I think that overall this is a great message for kids and teens that may have something bad happen to them in their lives, but to make the best out of it.

Also, Twilight is more of a love story than anything else. It is based on the love triangle of Jacob, Edward and Bella. It is the story of their lives and their pursuit of happiness. Obviously this writer is not aware of the series.

And on a final note, get over it. People are reading way too much into this . This is escapism and supposed to be fun. Lord forbid someone wear black or dye their hair. I least they will have more personality then someone dressing like Paris HIlton or Lindsay Lohan.

I am 39 and a mom. Speaking specifically of the Twilight BOOK series, while I wouldn't let a younger child of mine read them, I have always been impressed with the moral overtone of these book. The strongest message here is that no matter what your circumstances are, you choose who you are. Life is all about the choices we make. The Cullens and Edward are SO GOOD. Just like all the Harry Potter bashing, specific parts of it are a little dark (relatively speaking), but in essence it is an epic tale of good vs evil, of friendship, courage, and again choices. My children are intelligent, hard-working, of good moral character, creative, and good citizens. Harry Potter has CONTRIBUTED to that, and when they are older and if they want to read Twilight (they are boys - I should make them read it!!!) Twilight will, too!

I totally agree with you... not only that but as an adult I love the way it explains how a man should treat a woman...
I mean the story shows that a man should respect and support the woman he loves no matter what. Not only as a boyfriend but also mutual respect among friends. How Edward and the other guys in his family protect and treat their other half. You females out there know that romanticism has been lost and this story shows that being a romantic and emotional man doesnt mean they cant also be strong and brave.
It also represents true friendship with Jacob and Bella being friends until the end even though they both go through changes in life they are still present on each other's life and support each other.
It also brought teenagers to read a good book and learn that there is a lot more to life than just video games and computers where they played war games and aggresive games where there is prostitution, drugs and nothing but savage behavior for hours frying their brains... OH and sorry for teaching teenagers that by reading could learn new vocabulary Mr. Houder.

1. it kinda promotes the virtues of chastity as Rob once said and i completely agree,showing that there is much more in relationships than physical attraction
2. they are showing real love in a 'cool' way
3. Kristen/ Bella is a good role moel for the girls unlike those slutty blonde disney bimboes or smug porn-star looking young stars who are nothing more than looks. Kristen is like 'its cool to be yourself and i dont care if u dont like it' and of course everybody loves it. kristen and bella are sweet,simple,sensitive,smart,caring,clumsy and imperfect and have values. thats a good role model right there
3. Edward is a good role model for guys: protective,selfless and totaly willing to give everything fo his love,\. he is also smart,educated and talented and not arrogant and a good guy overall-monogamic too lol., not after mere psysical pleasure. and plus the fact that he is ampire makes him COOL so the boys wont consider him 'lame' but good to idolise.

wake up people,Twilight is the salvation of the superficial, frivolous youth that has a significant lack of moral values and originality that has driven its attention towards the persuit of physical pleasures alone and have forgoten the importance and beauty of real,healthy,loving,true,honest human relationships!

first of all it didnt have sex scenes it skipped right over that it had maybe the after the sex scenes and the before the sex scenes but never the sex scenes. i also think parents are a bit naive when they think that this stuff that stephenie meyer put in her book was bad. go into any middle school or highschool media center and they have books that r way worst. and lets face it all books r open acess its not like trying to get into an r rated movie. librarians dont ask u how old u r and wheres ur parents. if u were lets say 13 and u want to check out an adult book then serioulsy u could. and i can tell most of the ppl commenting on this are adults ( "my daughter isnt reading it until shes in 11th grade" well ur daughter is gonna read it and b like " this is wat she kept from me?) but wat im saying is a lot of teen books these days have wat stephenie meyer had in hers or worst. and it added some real to the book, because i was beginning to wonder, well bellas like 17 and shes unconditionally in love with edward then theres gonna b some physical luv cuz teens these days.... there having sex younger and younger. im not saying its good, but bella would prob get feelings. if not i would be like stephenie r u sure this is a teenage girl? and also stephenie handled this subject in a not to provocative way. she made them wait till marriage ( the best thing to do) thats a perfect example for someone to loook up to, and she didnt explain anything she gave little hints like the headbord was tore up... thats it. another example is movies pg-13 movies have sex (actual) scenes in them all the time and kids go see those all the time.and bellla and edward became married for petes sake! isnt that wat we wanted? and wat do married couples do? and steph was doing all that leading up to sex in eclipse to show edwards uncontrollable stregnth so he couldnt have sex with bella. it was basically another characterization with him. and lastly steph said these books were for young adults ( i remember) and that means teenagers. but like i said if a kid wants to read it thats team cuz books r free for all. jus like the host. that was an adult book but i read it at 14 and theres nothing bad in there. so theres no problem with these books

The placement of the series in that category was the publishing company's decision, not hers. I honestly feel that the novel is geared more toward women in their quarter-lives. I think it's more a reflection on teen years and not "teen" book.

Exactly, and after having the publisher dictate the placement of Twilight Meyers was VERY specific and a fought hard to insure that her second series, The Host (which by the way is FABULOUS), was labeled correctly as an adult novel.

Totally read The Host.... loved the story... took me a while to get into it, for the action to really start, but LOVED IT... Can't wait for her next one.

Oh...I know. I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next novel. I honestly can't decide what I'm more excited for, New Moon or the next Host book. I know that there are many who think she is a poor writer, but feel she is getting better and better with each book. And she writes some of the most compelling characters I've ever read. She barely scratched the surface on some of her Twilight characters. There is a infinite realm of possibilities.

Sounds like you have some solid goals. Just keep working toward that and don't let other people get to you. You'll get it all at some point, no need to rush the love/sex stuff like a lot of girls. My daughter is 9 and reading at a 5th grade level. I personally am letting her read the books she is on New Moon. The scarey part is, as a parent I never wanted to have the "SEX TALK" with a child, but she knew more about it from kids at school then I think I was prepared for. She started askin questions and I explained not in grave detail, because even in those books she never goes into detail. Nomore then they show on a pg movie now days. I want to protect my daughters innocence for as long as I can. She even wears a Purity ring, because she understands what it means to wait for her life partner. But I personally dont think a book influences anyone to do something they werent already going to do. UNLESS of course the parental guidance isnt there.. As for SM, she did say in a tv interview that although she didnt intend for them to be teen oriented she did write them so that teenagers and young girls could still read them. because as a parent herself she wouldnt distribute anything that her own children couldnt read someday...

Kids do hear from others kids about sex. I'm not against talking to them about everything at an early age. However, I feel there is a difference between kids "schoolyard gossip" and kids getting it directly from the parent. I personally feel that parents allowing things gives an entirely different picture. While Stephenie Meyer doesn't go into great detail, I still feel that it's just a little too deep for a young girl. I personally DO feel that a book and/or movie can influence an impressionable child. I feel that a kid should be a kid for as long as possible and don't feel the need to expose them unnecessarily. While Stephenie Meyer didn't write something she wouldn't want own kids to read someday, the key word there is someday. Judging by her interviews I think she would also wait until her children were older.
