True blood is pretty much the best show on cable tv next to Dexter, and yeah i would not recommend it for younger kids, it so rips a big one on Twilight...i love Twilight but TB is pretty up there, I mean they have Vampire Bill and Eric..they are insanely gorgeous. OK...I LOVE the Sookie Stockhouse series and I began reading them after watching TWILIGHT. So when reading the Stockhouse books I imagined Rob Pattinson as Bill Compton in my head, Cam Gigandet as Eric, Peter Facinelli as Sam, Taylor Lautner as Alcide Herveaux and I pictured the weretiger Eric as Vin Diesel. I just recently saw the first season of True Blood and was disappointed because the actors that I imagined in my head were SO MUCH hotter than the actual True Blood characters. Wait...strike that...the guy that plays Sookie's brother Jason is sooo hot!

Trueblood/Stackhouse novels is NOT a ripoff from Twilight....Dead until Dark was written in 2001, published I believe within that year or the next.
And for the series being a rip off, our precious,Rob, tried out for the part of Bill Compton, but lost it to Stephen Moyer. Thus, casting was going on before the Twilight movie had it's full cast, we know what sexy vampire Rob tried out for next now don't we?
*sigh* Sometimes I wish he'd gotton Bill Compton, then he'd just be still a lil blip on the radar screen and I could be one of the select few that knew who he was, instead of being a part of a big mass of fan-girls.

True Blood and Twilight are two totally different stories. It's like comparing apples and oranges. True Blood is a much darker story. Twilight is more gentle. I love both of them frankly.

The book arent as gratituous in the sex department as the series. But yes there is some.

Frist you can NOT compare Twilight to True Blood. The only thing that they have in common is Vampires. I love Twilight but i also love True Blood. but they are different. Twilight is for the romantics. True Blood is for the ppl who enjoy their dirty lil guilty pleasures.
Twilight is a great love story. It does have some bloody scenes in it and esp. to come. Eclipse should be really intersting.
True Blood on the other hand... It is what i call vampire porn. lol i love it also but it is more like my guilty pleasure. Even my husband will sit down and watch it with me. I mean he has watched Twilight once but that was it. He has even thought about reading the books.
As far as fighting that would never happen. One the Cullens live in Forks, Washington and True Blood vamps live in Louisiana. There are vampires who are trying to become "main stream" in True Blood which is alot like the Cullens who are Vegies (as i call them). True Blood vamps who are main stream drink "Tru Blood" its fake blood that was created for vampires. The Cullens Don't Feed on humans they feed on animals.

personally true blood loses on the plot, hotness, and just so boring levels. i watched the first three episodes and unfortunately it lost its potential that a lot of you are saying it has. the books i really don't want to read them. that bill character is not hot at all. believe me that i tried to watch it. but it got annoying especially with such fake southern accents like that. rachel griffiths from brothers and sisters who by the way is Australian could do a better southern accent. but you have to watch the rookie to hear that.

At least True Blood sits on its own and is a completely different vampire world. I mean I can see the similarities and differences, but it is still cool to me.

I finished my True Blood dvd like 2 days ago and I have to say I loved it. Not only the vamps there but the human characters are good and funny, but it is much more "adult" so dont expect any chastity there :P

If I want some sex, violence and gore ...I would choose Anita Blake series versus True Blood. It had more.

But I really find Twilight to be a really good love story. You can't always looks for sex, violence and gore in your stories. It really depend on the mood.

I haven't got a chance to watch True Blood (read the books), but am planning to. But I doubt I'll become obsess over it as I did with Twilight.

I love True Blood. I love how it's supernatural, but it relates to a lot of things that are happening in today's world. Racism, sexism, etc. The vampires fighting for equal rights, I love it. I'm sorry, but whoever says that True Blood is just about violence and sex you obviously haven't seen the entire first season or have never read any of the books. Yeah there is a lot of sex in True Blood but who cares? It's aimed at adults more where Twilight is more for everyone. I'll take vampires who burn in the daylight than ones who sparkle, no offense. It's just my personal taste. I still like Twilight obviously or I wouldn't be here but True Blood is my favorite.

I love Twilight, but as someone in their 30's, it left me a bit unsatisfied I guess you could say. I'm reading Eclipse for the 4th time and its like..."get on with it already". True Blood satisfies that idea that vampires are sexual creatures. I love the bill/sookie relationship and love bill period. Eric the Viking is the bad boy that you can't take your eyes off of. I don't think you can really compare them. Its more like "classic versus modern". I am really looking forward to seeing what Slade does with Eclipse. I hope he darkens it a bit, like they did with Harry Potter.

Well if we are going to get into a war between vampires from books we should include Ann Rice’s Vamps as well. After all it’s only fair to give Lestat his chance to kick a little butt...lol But I think we are all wrong on this one. Most of them really don’t like to fight amongst themselves and try to avoid it as much as possible. So they would probably sit around at the Cullens house and reminisce about the good old days when we humans were scared of vampires. Then they would decide to start the first ever all vampire band....lol
As for True Bloods serial being inspired by Twilight, If I remember right The Sookie Stackhouse Novels were published first. And in that story Sookie refers to herself as a Lamb. That got my attention quick when I read it. But hay I am not going to make any judgments I am for Vampire rights all the way. I love them all. GO TEAM SUPERNATURAL!!!

The first Sookie Stackhouse novel was written in 2001, long before Twilight and even Stephanie's dream.
I would definitely recommend them, they're called the Southern Vampire Mysteries, they're not out yet in the UK, we have to wait til July. I have read them all however through other means, but I will buy them all when they're released :D

I like all vampire series for different reasons. But as far as the books go, Twilight sucks you in and doesn't let go. I think because Stephanie keeps you on the edge of anticipating what will happen next in Edward and Bella's relationship. The Sookie Stackhouse books are ok. There is just no comparision to me.

But I love both series. Twilight is just more fantastical and creative to me.

I am only on the second book and it is hard to get into them as much as Twilight. So I was unaware that there would be a love triangle. Super stoked about Eric, because he is HOT and a bada$$. I like Bill too, but it will be good for the storyline to get a love triangle in there.

It is true that you can't really compare them, but if you HAD to..
1) The True Blood vamps have NO problem killing other vampires (As long as it's not to save a human).
2) If we're taking into account the Werewoles of Twilight, then we have to take into account the Weres of True Blood, the demons AND the Faeries.
3) In the Sookie books, the Kings and Queens of vampires don't live in junk yards (no idea who that was meant to be in the Tribunal in True Blood), they live in Palaces.
4) With the whole Bella/Sookie comparison, it's hard to compare, because Sookie is a grown woman. Sookie is a much more likeable person, her personality is so vibrant, Bella is solely defined by her love for Edward, there's nothing else to her, whereas Sookie is a whole person with other interests etc.
5) The Sookie/Bill, Bella/Edward discussion is a hard one too, maybe B&E's relationship is more magical, but it's not realistic. Bella is so submissive, whereas as soon as Bill ticks off Sookie, she kicks him to the curb and moves on (to the mighty fine Eric, see: http://true-blood.net/gallery/albums/cast-seaso...).

I kind of agree that True Blood is Twilight for grown-ups, there's more violence, more sex and it's just more edgy overall.
By reading my post it may seem hard to believe, but I do LOVE Twilight, but for very different reasons from my love for Sookie.

Quinn was amazing, I really hope True Blood makes it long enough for him to be in it. I watched the series first so he was always Eric to me! The ninth book is amazing, you really need to read it now! The ending is actually amazing, I can't wait for the 10th book, there's such a cliffhanger!

I am not hating on either one. Love both for different reasons.

Twilight, however, is my favorite just because I feel that it is more original and creative. True Blood goes along with so many stereotypes of vampires. But I do love the blood and gore.

Edward and Bella seem to be more complex genuinely in love characters than Bill and Sookie. But I do love the comedy of True Blood. It kind of makes fun of itself.

As for who would win in a fight, I am giving it to the Cullens because just because True Blood is for mature audiences doesn't mean anything. The Cullens seem a lot smarter.

And no offense, but their version of the Volturi are in a junk yard. We are in a dungeon in Italy baby!!

Actually I find Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series that inspired True Blood to be much better written than the Twilight Books. Twilight is a good love story but its not written well at all. I would caution younger Twilight readers from reading the sookie books because they are adult books and at times rather graphic, as is the show.

To all the people saying that Twilight inspired True Blood:
The Sookie books were written before Twilight and the series laso premiered before Twilight,so it couldn't be inspired by Twilight....i'm not saying True Blood is better,just stating the point.

I'm madly obsessed with Twilight and I like watching True Blood,simply because it's entertaining. It's funny,absorbing and not that stupid either,it cleverly deals with the problem of tolerance (with the vampires being out in public, trying to be good and just live their lives). Sometimes the sex scenes are a bit too much,but apart from that it's really cool.
Twilight and True Blood are completely different things and I can't see any way to compare these two. It's both about vampires,but that's it. Even the vamps are different. In 'Twilight' the sunlight doesn't kill vampires,in True Blood it does. In Twilight vampires have to protect their secret,in True Blood they want to be a righful part of the society. The romance between Bill&Sookie and Bella&Edward is incomparable as well. It's a lot deeper in Twilight.
On the other hand,notice that the bad True Blood vamps (these not like Bill) are kinda similar to 'normal' vamps from Twilight. By normal I mean bloodthirsty vampires like James and Victoria,who treat people like food.
Anyway,I do not recommend reading Sookie books series (I read the first one) if you expect something well-written. If you like Harlequins, you can pick it up :P 'True Blood' show is a lot better and more interesting than the book,the threds are a lot better developed,generally the writing is better. I was surprised that the show based on this book was so good. I read the book after I watched the whole season and it was entertaining to read, but nothing more than that.

I'm so looking forward to watching True Blood, the 1st season starts getting shown over here in the UK next month, I'll be setting my Sky+ for this one. I haven't bought any of the books, mainly because I'm already in the middle of two other vampire series at the moment and people are getting worried about my obsession with vampires - I blame Stephanie Meyer, she started it all, lol.

Trueblood is an amazing show. For those of you that don't know, it's based off of a book series. The "Sookie Stackhouse Series". I encourage everyone to pick them up. I will warn you-Twilight is a love story, these books do have love in them, but it's not as deep as twilight and it's much different. They bring in werewolves, shapeshifters, fae, witches, and more. There are 9 books in the series so far. These are the kind of books you will read in a day. You CAN NOT put them down. They are suspenseful and Charlaine Harris (the auther) is an amazing writer. These books are much more adult than twilight, there are many sex scenes throughout the series and the main character Sookie is 25 years old. I'd also encourage everyone to check out trueblood. they aren't the same vampires as twilight, they can't come out during the day, don't sparkle, have fangs that retract, live off of "synthetic blood", etc. I'm sure you can imagine why it's on HBO and not regular cable. These two series are compeltely different and can't be compared, but are both very amazing. <3

I haven't seen True Blood but I've read the first book. To be honest, the True Blood vampires seem a little easy to kill - you can use garlic, holy water, silver, a stake through the heart, etc. The humans kick their ass!

In Twilight though, the vamps are near indestructible. So I reckon even in a battle between the True Blood vamps and Twilight FANS, the Twi-hards would still win! LOL

Yea you can use silver to kill them and they burn too when in the sun where the Twilight ones don't.
Bill got his butt kicked with silver and Sookie had to save him. I was like ok ... But the Twilight ones would take alot more especially with the Cullen family and all their powers.

I was never attracted to True blood. I even tried reading the first book and I kinda read reviews of others and it just isn't my thing, also I never liked the way the story is progressing....
I was never in to vampires when I think about it, and True blood vampires are still cliche, especially that drinking blood during sex thing, it's too masochistic for me haha.

I think I liked Twilight so much because of Stephanie's vampires, they are just so different from everything in the literature you could find about them. It was fresh to me.
I know that sparkling part is often an object of jokes. But it is an interesting concept.
The skin is hard as a rock and some rocks sparkle in the sun because of the mineralisation. It's just that the poor job in the first movie kidna degraded that part haha, maybe in NM we'll see it in better light.

I've seen only half of season one of true blood, and still I agree with you. You also point at my main reasons for liking twivamps too.

That's true and it was Stephenie's dream that they were beautiful and looked like marbles/diamonds. And it was interesting that they were these beautiful creatures but thought of themselves(especially Edward) as monsters. I thought Stephenie wrote them beautifully.
Trueblood is the same old sh*t and it get's old they need to stop hating over there. And yea I read some of their jokes.

I prefer twilight vamps because they are not so horny *giggles* (I admit though, that horny can be good...).

Apparently most vampire stories 'borrow' themes from each other. Of course Bram Stoker's Dracula held major influence & it trickled down thru the ages to Anne Rice, etc. We still see heavy elements of it in many vamp' tales, as it is often the standard for vamp' mythology.

The Anita Blake series, by Laurell K. Hamilton began to hit shelves in '93--the more of True Blood I watch (& read)--the more it reminds me of the Anita Blake series. So Sookie isn't a vamp slayer but she has supernatural abilities for a human which makes her resistant to her supernatural buddies to a degree, just like Anita. One story is based in Louisiana the other St. Louis, vamp politics & their "mainstreaming" into society, is a major theme, the male vamp lead is obsessed w/the once unwilling female lead (as are shapeshifters & pretty much anyone else that hangs around her. Everyone seems to fall for Anita/Sookie), the love triangle-quadrangle-whatever gets increasingly irritating...whats w/all these supernatural teasing wenches that proclaim themselves prude but act or dress like sluts 10 seconds later, anyway!? Ugh! lol

Surprised Anita wasn't picked up by HBO. From what I hear, after book 10 its a total sexfest, moreso than even TB. But IFC is bringing it to the screen next year, so lets see what happens. Oooh to see the Jacob-esque Richard on a screen rather than a page. Yum!

And for anyone who would like to look it up to confirm that its impossible for True Blood to be inspired by Twilight just search for the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris on amazon.com and it will give you the publication dates.

Effing, True Blood is awesome. There are similarities and differences with Twilight. Mainly, Twilight is more of a fantasy love story. True Blood is more gory, violent and has a lot of sex in it. But the core storyline is pretty much the same.

Sookie is kind of annoying because she is so bubbly and blond and over the top. But Bill and the other vampires are kind of cool. It is set in Louisiana and has this country cajun feel to it.

I love it, but to each their own. Twilight and True Blood are completely different as far as mood goes. But I love vampire stories across the board.

Bill is kind of like our Edward in the sense that he saves Sookie and they fall in love and he hates what he is. But Sookie and Bella are completely different.

I love both! I can't wait for the new season of True Blood just as much as I can't wait for New Moon. I think they can coexist perfectly fine so long as we don't have people trying to make waves like certain people did when they tried comparing Harry Potter and Twilight (which can't be done, they are too different).

I really love them both and I have read both Twilight Saga and the True Blood books...But I'll always be Team Twilight

I've debated on whether to read the True Blood books or not... I'm stuck in Twilight mode... maybe after all the movies are out.... maybe.

I've watched True Blood and its awesome. Someone told me that the TV show is EXACTLY like the books.

True Blood is awesome I agree! It is close to the books, not exactly though. Tara (my favorite) isn't in the first book and is only a minor character in the second, as opposed to on the show where she's Sookie's best friend.

I have to admit when Sam admitted he's a "shapeshifter" I squealed and was like Omg he's like Jake! Not really but close enough (he does tend to morph into a dog alot lol.)

I think the best thing to watch the show for, is all the interpersonal drama, especially between Sookie and her brother Jason. You know they love each other, but at the same time you know they don't get along too easily. I cried when Adele died *sigh*

I like True Blood. But in a different way. I love the swearing, the humor, the sex. Its completely different then Twilight, there is NO comparison really. I love Sookie. She is strong, and can fight for herself. I absolutely love that character.

However, when it comes to the True Blood Vamps and the Twilight Saga Vamps. There is no question. It shouldn't even be UP for debate really: THE TWILIGHT VAMPS CAN KICK THE TRUE BLOOD VAMPS DEAD A$$ES ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!!!!!!

The only advantage TBVamps have is the pointy teeth. Thats it. The TwiVamps don't have to sleep, they can go out the in day light. You can't stake them, silver doesn't hurt them, nothing. They have to be literally ripped a part. Where the TBVamps can be staked, sunlight kills them, they are MUCH more venerable, and not nearly as strong.


But I do like True Blood ... I'm just saying: apples and oranges baby!!

The shape shifters can turne into any animal they want, just if they see how they look like... They R not just pigs and dogs...

I think Bill is hot! I always crack up when he says "Sookie" too! Its just so funny the way he says it. Sookie is a funny name anyway, but something about the way Bill says it just makes it sound even more hilarious. You gotta admit that they have the best sex scenes on the whole show. IDK why, but for some reason its almost like there's just more of an "ick" factor with the other characters' sex scenes.

They have amazing chemistry. Probably because they are together in real life (hint hint Robsten .. jj!!) Yes .. the way he says Sookie is sooo funny/cute!! It is a strange name. Believe it or not, that is one of the reasons why I didn't want to watch the show at first, I hated the name Sookie!! LMAO!!

yeah. i prefer how stephanie has moved away from the common traits that ppl have about vampires and how she turned them to myths.

Our twilight vampires are more superior and are in a league of their own. True blood is just riding on the twilight vampires D&G coatails :)

I happen to love TrueBlood... but... in TrueBlood the vamps can't even come out during the day or they fry... at least the Twilight vamps just sparkle and can still survive... that proves that they're stronger..

It's really good, not like underworld. I haven't read the books, but everyone is telling me to. It's no Twilight saga, but I've enjoyed it. My husband likes it too.

You should definitely read the Sookie Stackhouse series (true blood) They are really good. I had a hard time finding something to read after twilight too! But I found these books (there are 9 so far) and fell in love with them. Dont worry I still love twilght more lol

Some people think Stephanie copied True Blood and stuff like that. I think that's stupid. Even if she did, Twilight is different. But I don't think she literally copied, people get all up and at it for nothing.

Yea I agree. I think its stupid. Honestly alot of writers get ideas from reading other books. I think every book I have ever read had something similar to another book. But it doesn't really matter, as long as its not a complete copy and paste thing and you just borrow a few ideas I don't really see a problem.
