vancouver set poster 200907171100 On the Set of New Moon in Vancouver: Minute by Minute Account Katie Bain from Hollywood.com was on the set of New Moon in Vancouver a while back, and gives a detailed glimpse of one day of filming on a New Moon soundstage, including interviews with Michael Sheen, Melissa Rosenberg and others. Of the Volturi set she says–(spoilers!)–

The lair is a high-ceiling, cathedral-like room composed of marble pillars and porticos. My Latin is a little rusty, but the script on the wall translates to “no one is above law” (full disclosure: I Googled it). The words “death” and “life” are also engraved in the marble.

5:40PM A crewmember walks by me with a Sprite. He holds up the can. “There’s blood in here,” he says with a wink.

5:42PM There is a raised credenza at the front of the room on which four ornate black and gold chairs sit. Each chair has a gold lion’s head on the armrest and a different design above the headrest. Behind the chairs, there is a brightly lit window that suggests an outdoor balcony.

The door “outside” opens to a loggia decorated with fountains and stucco animal (pigs, horses, lions) statues. I touch the pig (don’t tell!) and realize the whole structure, fake fountains and all, is made of Styrofoam. Impressive.

New Moon bad vamp Victoria, played by Rachelle LeFevre, says of the action sequences–

It’s so much wirework. It’s so much actual doing-it. In terms of the look of it … I think Chris has approached things as it should be, a little rawer and a little more literally grounded.

I think it was very flighty in the first one, so when we were running fast it was almost like you weren’t touching the ground … I think he’s factored gravity in a little more than they did in the first film, so that might have a different look as a result.

Jimmy Fallon did a pretty funny skit where he plays both Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter.

Robert Pattinson and Daniel Radcliffe both have a chance to explain why the should reign supreme. Hilarity ensues.

Those outside the US can watch the vid at the Jimmy Fallon website.

chris weitz 200907162256 Interview with New Moon Director Chris Weitz: Tons of New Info There’s an amazing new interview with New Moon director Chris Weitz, and he reveals tons of new information that fans have been dying to get their hands on. Among them?–

  • Even Weitz was surprised with how quickly Phil Tippet’s company turned around the Jacob wolf shot at the end of the first teaser trailer. The shot has gone through numerous iterations and is much more photorealistic than that version.
  • He’ll be submitting a director’s cut of the film to Summit within the next two weeks.
  • Thom Yorke and Kings of Leon are interested in contributing to the film’s soundtrack.
  • The movie within a movie, “Facepunch,” will only be heard — not seen.
  • His vision of the Volturi is very much like the book and unlike a number of fan inspirations that have hit the web. He also sees them as having gone slightly insane after living for 2,000 years.
  • He’s met with David Slade and expects the filmmaker’s vision for “Eclipse” to be different than what he’s doing with “New Moon,” but with the same actors and visual effects team.
  • He’s flattered that fans want him to direct “Breaking Dawn” without seeing “New Moon,” but thinks the fans will want Slade to do it by the time “Eclipse” comes out.
  • Weitz needs to turn the film in by Oct. 30 to strike prints or if not, they are in “big trouble” to make the release date.

There is boatloads more, so check out the whole interview over at Hitflix to read all the additional information!

Rotten Tomatoes also shares some info from Chris Weitz, where he reveals the proposal scene has not been cut–

“It hasn’t been cut out, I can tell you that much,” Weitz carefully shared. He paused to compose his answer, making sure not to reveal too much. “It’s not going to hit them in exactly the way that they think it’s going to, but I will say that — how can I put it? –it’s going to be quite special. I kind of saved all of my gusto for that moment. I don’t think it will disappoint.

Part 2 of the MovieSet tour of the set of New Moon is up, and if you can withstand the sometimes grating humor of the Twilight noob hosts, there are some fun times to be had.

The Twilight-expert tour guide uses screenshots from the New Moon trailer to map out the exact spot in the forest that Bella and Edward break up in the film, and you also see the theater scene exterior location.
