twilight must see new moon vs twilight tm Twilight vs New Moon: Which Director Got the Visual Style Right?

Check out this amazing comparison of the look of each of the main characters from Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight (1st, 3rd column) and Chris Weitz’s New Moon (2nd, 4th column).

Which do you prefer–are there certain characters that look better in one version or the other?

[thanks for the graphic, A.Luper!]

It seems I share some similar sentiments with the last person to comment (Mr_Darcy), HOWEVER…!! …To me, the color filter change from blue to yellow completely ruins the whole thing! Somehow it makes the ambiance and mood of the film (NM) seem like “just another movie” rather than an exhilarating/mystical/emotionally intense/other-worldly drama! …And I feel VERY disappointed that the new director, Chris Weitz, took it upon himself to change so many of the character's hair styles and make up as much as he did!! For example, Esme is SUPPOSED to be “soft, loving, & even motherly in nature;” now she just looks like an irritable, burned-out old hag (in NM)!!!! >:0( And I don't know how anyone could think Alice looks better, OR more “true to character” per the books, without her signature “spikey hair going in every direction!!” She was never described as having straight, flat hair in the books, esp so sleeked to her head as in NM! WHAT was Chris thinking!?!! Additionally, I think Rosalie now looks LESS “stunningly beautiful,” and perhaps even kind of “average,” with all the changes he made to her…! Honestly, I'm feeling rather upset with the “artistic license” Chris Weitz gave himself when he should have just let a GREAT thing be!!! (If it ain't broke, DON'T fix it– people LOVED Twilight…!!!) I MISS CATHERINE HARDWICKE!!!! If she had been given the kind of budget for Twilight that Chris has been given for all the rest of the movies, I feel she would have out-done him in SOOO many ways, hands down!!! …And if SHE were in charge of New Moon (and the rest of the films) today, I KNOW it(they) would turn out FAR better in terms of believable character-depth, romance, & emotional intensity **per the books** than anything I'm seeing of Chris Weitz's work on New Moon thus far!!! Catherine had/has an AMAZING talent for capturing the true essence of each character via lighting, wardrobe, hair, make-up, etc…!! The ONLY thing I think Chris Weitz might possibly do better is the action sequences! I'll say it again, though, I MISS CATHERINE HARDWICKE–>bring her back!!! Either that, or force Chris to work WITH her so the essence & the heart of the films/books/characters aren't twisted and lost forever!!! I wish I could tell Sephenie Meyer this myself–I hate to see her outstanding books portrayed with anything less than true excellence!!! :0)

All i can say is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me you are directing the rest of the movies!!! not to be harsh or anything but the first one sucked. this one looks amazing it actually follows the book it looks like you actually took the time to read the book and follow it unlike the director of twilight

Sorry, Darcy! I disagree with you about Kristen's Bella. I have no problem visualizing Kristen as she appeared in the movies when reading the books. I do agree that Ashley's hair style does not seem to fit the Alice description – in either book. But, Ashley as Alice has made Alice a favorite character – equal 'fav' with Kristen, Rob, and Taylor. It's hard, though, because I believe the casting is so right on!!

Why is the movie so dark I can barely see the cast? Some of the scenes are so dark I can only see a face and nothing else? I keep playing with my TV and DVD to see if it is me…but it is the movie!!! Why?

EXCEPT Edward, all characters get better styles. Edward looks so much better & delicious in the first film. But then he looks like a living dead in New Moon :(…. The style for him is all wrong in NM. It’s supposed that he’s just 17 and he’s a high school student, how can u make him so old in NM??? Well, maybe I can’t blame Chris for all, Robert himself grows up so fast too LOL. (btw I can’t bear hehas his hair cut short!! )
