Peter Facinelli Shares An Indispensable ‘New Moon’ Line With MTV

bellaandcarlisleAt first this ‘line’ was dispensable. Not making it to the final cut of Melissa Rosenberg’s script for New Moon. But our beloved Chris Weitz knew this particular scene was important. Peter Facinelli tells MTV -

MTV: When it comes to the “Twilight” films, there are two types of scenes: Those in Stephenie’s books, and the new ones Melissa Rosenberg added. Do you feel an extra level of excitement shooting those, because they’re so new?

Facinelli: I do. A lot of people keep asking “Hey, what happens in ‘New Moon’?” And you say, “Well, if you’ve read the book, you know what happens.” But I like the scenes that aren’t necessarily in the book, that get to tell a little bit of the backstory. It adds another element to the moviemaking, and it’s a little surprise for the fans.

MTV: We’ve been asking your co-stars to give us their favorite “New Moon” line in character. Can you do yours?

Facinelli: Oh, wow. Now I have to reach back a whole year and try to remember my lines from a year ago, when I can barely remember my lines the day of. … OK, here we go: “Like everything else in life, I just had to decide what to do with what I was given.” That’s a line that Carlisle says.

MTV: OK, cool. But can you do it in character?

Facinelli: No. [Laughs.] Then, you gotta pay me. If I’m gonna act, you better pay me, Larry Carroll!

MTV: All right, we’ll take down your address and have every fan send you a quarter.

Facinelli: You know, I don’t even know if I can do Carlisle on the spot like that.

    I just read the full interview, and once again, PFach just blew me away!

    What an incredible gift we've been given as fans to have him play Carlisle! He clearly is such a fan of the books and movies, and takes this so seriously, we couldn't ask for anything more from him.

    I'm so impressed with his dedication and attitude towards the role, I love the fact that he won't trot out the character at the drop of a hat, that it's complex enough for him that it requires thought and preparation.

    And what a great line! I must admit, it's not one that stood out to me when I read the book, but I can't wait to see what PFach does with it on film, I'm sure it will be a great little moment made all the better because we know the backstory.

    Great job saving this line from MR's epic failings as a scriptwriter, Peter! And kudos to CW for being secure enough to take suggestions from his cast!

    There's so many things I'm excited to see from that trailer: Jane and Aro looking evil, the Edward/Felix fight, the Laurent death scene, Paul phasing in front of Bella, Jake being all sweet, and on and on and on! I can't wait!!!!!

    I don't mind they're showing this much in the trailer. (I understand what you're saying though) My reasoning: full trailers are supposed to show a good glimpse at what the entire movie is about........not just flashes of random scenes. The only reason the very first trailer only showed the bday scene and Jacob phasing was because that's all they had completed at the time......and it was even rushed. This is really "THE trailer" =)

  • I said the same thing yesterday about the fight scene. lol I was like "did that happen in the book?" I know Felix REALLY wanted to kill them all so I think that's who that is roughing up Edward. I bet a million dollars he lays a hand on Bella and Edward just freaked. I would like to know how the fight ends....maybe Aro gets really pissed because they broke his marble floor. lol
     
    That trailer got be REALLY excited!!!!!! It surpassed all my expectations! I really think Kristen is going to blow us away in this one. Ugh - my only real life Twilight friend is not as into day-by-day updates on the films as I am. haha. She will be seeing this movie with me more than once!! :D

  • I see how u could have pronounced it that way. haha ;-)  I remember pronouncing Quileute wrong.....and then hearing the right way and being like "whoa!" I don't even know how I thought it was said. I always kinda stumbled over it while reading.  haha.
     
    The 2nd time I read New Moon, I could handle the Jacob & Bella parts better while Edward was gone. I still tried to fly through it though.

    i always pronounced the tribe as quil ette. Lol. I usually made up my own names for them as an easy read. Stumbling on words all the time kind of sucks. Lol. but i have read new moon three times. The second time wasn't that bad for jake's part. . But third i skimmed a lot. . . And first it was all new. . But i was sad while reading it. Lol.

    I don't think the Edward/Felix fight was that intense at all in the book, but that's a change I'm not minding, I'm gonna be on the edge of my seat!

    Another addition I'm digging--the little glimpse of one of the bad vamps (Laurent I think?) jumping from the tree behind Charlie in the woods. Chilling!
  • Yup - not minding the Felix-Edward fight either. It confused me when Rob kept saying in interviews - the final fight scene. I was like "what does he mean?" Now - it's coming together. :)
     
    Ohhhh, I didn't know who that was jumping out of the trees.......I thought it was one of the Quilete boys.....bc Charlie was bear/wolf searching. But I think you're right about it being Laurent.

    Holy s***. I do agree with you on the whole "there giving too much away" But it's a trailer, the movie will be a lot longer. I'm not too worried with seeing the trailer. I can't wait to see Alice coming back to Forks. That's like one of my favorite parts in the book.
