I think they should slowly start emptying the zoo. They could probably make money from it.. Keep it open and focus ALL attention and money on a few animals.. The elephant for sure, and the tigers.. maybe. Then a few others ..
That way, the habitats can be a lot bigger. The focus can be specialized instead of random, and better care can be taken of the animals. Know what I mean?

Yup, and I agree wholeheartedly. I've done their overnight program 4-5 times with Spark and Brownie units - brilliantly done programs, which the girls love and learn so much from. And do we work with all of the animals? Hale, no! Focus on things like that, get Lucy somewhere better, maybe Boris and the other tiger, too... yeah, I know what you mean.

overnight program? PSH!! when I was in Girl Guides we only stayed at the Telus world of science, Fort Edmonton and the Mutart. We NEVER stayed in the zoo, awww... :( lol

OK, first - we really WERE just snuggling, hubby has an obsession with lions, and they were actively moving around and it was just fascinating to watch.
We had NO idea the zoo closed as early as it did, and it was summer, so it was still daylight, so when we finally left there, we were walking along, going to go see the tigers (which, if you're familiar with the Calgary zoo, is at the opposite end, of course!), thinking how quiet it was all around us.
No big deal - it was a weekday, and we were kind of in our own little world, pretty much oblivious to everything around us. All of a sudden, this guy pulls up beside us in one of the zoo maintenance trucks, completely surprised that we're still there. Apparently, the zoo had closed an hour earlier. So he followed us up to the gate, and had to unlock it to let us out! Too funny, and a very memorable first date!

I was a teen...long time ago. We had family there and we did go shopping so it must have been Fort Edmonton. I have a lot of family in BC and the family we had in Edmonton and Calgary moved to Vancouver so I doubt I will hit those areas again if I ever visit my family. But we do still have a wonderful Banff tea-towel...quite fadded but still going strong after nearly 20 years! LOL

Even though the screen is a bit smaller, their lack of popularity is exactly the reason we'll go there first - less crowds, less trouble getting in. Saw both Twilight & HP & the Half-Blood Prince there, and the theatres weren't that full, and I didn't have to listen to ANYONE screaming or anything stupid like that... even though they should the NM trailer at HP... (OK, me & my twi-bud both gave out a little squeal, but we were "dignified" about it...**snort**)

I live a little North West, my house is so close to the Edmonton city lines, and the new Anthony Henday bit will be quite close to it. So no, my city is not your city. *giggle*.. lol! But I consider myself an Edmontonian because A) I go to school in Edmonton, B) I work for an Edmonton company, C) all my entertainment is in Edmonton, D) I shop in Edmonton, and E) We usually eat in Edmonton. I saw HP Half blood prince twice in theatre, both at Cineplex, I like the big screen and the seats, so I guess I will put up with the screaming girls. My friend is big on politeness, so she always try's to force people to say excuse me or such. So she tells people often "You are being too loud for the rest of us" or "You are extremely rude having your cell phone off, please don't ruin the movie for everyone else - unless you plan on paying for our tickets" .. she even put a handful of popcorn on someone who checked their phone during a movie *giggle*
